Reviews for Body of Justice

Hawke doesn't have a personality. Hawke has three puddle-deep tones of voice to choose from: doormat, snarky jackass, or aggressive asshole. I would think (and hope) that all fanficcers would expand beyond those rigid bounds... even if they venture into Damsel in Distress territory.

TropicalFool: I wasn't referring to Fenris, unless Fenris was getting his rapeface on somewhere and I just missed it. I was talking about Anders/Justice, who suffers almost as much from OOC-itis for the purposes of ~hawt sex0rcizing~ as Hawke does in this story (do you seriously believe that *Anders* of all people, even with Justice's influence, would try to justify raping someone he supposedly cared about a great deal, if not actually cherished from afar?).

I like Anders because despite his personal torment he is a very gentle person, if rather impulsive and naive. I like f!Hawke because she gets results and doesn't have to be the Typical Oversexed Fantasy Battle Babe a la Laurell K. Hamilton in order to do it. I like Fenris because he's stoic and bitter rather than angsty (despite having that reputation in the fandom). So when I see that degree of OOC simply to write a rape fantasy... it's like the wicked stepsister slicing off her toes to force her foot into Cinderella's shoe - it's a straightforward quick solution but too messy to really work.

Point being, there's ways to write Lady Hawke getting herself in over her head and suffering the consequences, without completely breaking character. I promise you, it's totally possible. XD I suppose you could argue that since she is the player avatar then Hawke has whatever personality you play her with, but I don't recall helpless damsel in distress as one of the possible options. As it should be, really.

Hummm… I wonder, in reading some of the other reviews, if we're reading the same story? Yes, Tia is rendered without her mage abilities by the Wards -- not because she is weak, but because Anders is a mage and knows how to nullify her strengths. And it is not as if she suddenly falls for Fenris -- it is well established that they are lovers before all of this starts.

I have no problem with believing that Justice could be driven to any length, including rape, if he thought that it would help the cause of the mages, which at this point is pretty much his reason for existing at all. That it is wrong headed makes sense to me since he is not human and, apparently from all we have seen, can be very poor at reading and understanding human motivations.

The bottom line is, the story works for me, and I am no fan of wimpy characters. And, frankly, it always amazes me that people will criticize a story's content… I don't like soppy romances, so I don't read them… I think the author was not trying to fool anyone here about the nature of the character, so if you don't like these kind of stories… well… seems rather like someone reading one of mine and complaining that it's M/M… and thinking I should change a characters gender… well, actually that has happened, but thankfully only once…

Keep writing what gets you going.. and what you enjoy.. there are plenty of like minded individuals out there. Whats next, someone asking you not to write m/m mixed in cause they don't like it?? Its your story... . Its your Hawke... keep it that way.

Decent writing technically, but would it be too much to ask for the writers in this section to *not* write Lady Hawke as a weepy helpless damsel in distress that requires the power of Fenris/Anders/Sebastian's Magical Healing Cock to fix her problem? Not to mention that the notion of Justice raping a human seems wildly improbable even by fanfiction standards, and the "falling for my rapist" bit is just... yeah, no.

I see these female Hawke ones a lot -- poor woman's too weak to save herself so she needs big strong Fenris to help her. Kinda sad, really.
