Reviews for Friendship's Gift

I admit that I am only partially familiar with the Elder Scrolls setting, so while I know what Khajiit look like, I don't know if Ahnassi is an original character or an NPC from one of the games.  Still, that doesn't hinder my enjoyment of the story.

“your robe seems to have come undone,” he managed gruffly.

“Hah, no. Today I show you my natural gifts.

    Must...resist..."Khajiit has wares" joke.

Okay, in all seriousness, I like that this story addresses something about interspecies relationships that often goes unmentioned: issues of physical compatibility.  It's honestly kind of sad that these two would love to physically express their feelings for one another, but because of simple anatomical differences, they just can't.  This could have been played as a joke, but instead you wrote it out in a very genuine way.

She swallowed a lump in her throat, unsure if it were emotion or hairball.

Not that there aren't any jokes in the story, of course.  Still, I did feel sorry for the characters, and I appreciated the maturity shown in Ahnassi's acceptance at the end.

The imagery is stunning, is so accurately portrayed the longing and feeling, I could feel it along with her! But you still had humorous bits (Like the hairball!) that broke it up enough that it wasn't overwhelming! Well done - Thank you!

Hah! Clearly she's not adventurous enough! I always admire how, no matter how dire and grave, or visceral and horrifying, your story is, there's always wit in it. The hairball bit, for example. In tears, I was! And the melodramatic excess, it was simply delightful. And truly, I believe that you got the last laugh on the readers with that ending. We were all expecting her to go "oh, we'll make do!" or, perhaps, be even more determined to consummate her passion upon laying eyes on his member, but instead you opted for an anticlimax! I think a hefty amount of readers would encourage you to write a sequel where she changes her mind. The self-entitled pornographer has pulled a fast one on the faithful readers!

I love the Elder Scrolls games, but I've strangely never read any of the fan fiction, although I don't know why. I enjoyed this. Very well done.

Aw, this story almost made me cry. Even within the roughest creatures lay such a wonderful sense of love and respect, and you expressed it beautifully. The foreshadowing, comparing physical sizes was a great way to pave the way without giving a clue about what the big problem was. (Half-intended.)

I also loved the way Orc spoke, somewhat formal but with use of "local references" that made perfect sense in context. (Ex. "... my intelligence is not Skooma addict low!") The "navel to whiskers" line was so blunt that I didn't even have time to cringe before he stepped back and showed her his penis. (I never thought I'd write that phrase in a serious literary context. ;) )

Yet he could be tender and careful, wiping tears away, but he was afraid... But really of what? Sure, it would be terribly if he lost control physically and hurt her, but just maybe he also worried that the kind of relationship he wanted could lead to hurting her emotionally or otherwise "losing her" because it didn't work out.

Ahnassi knowing how much he loves her in return is still wonderful, if bittersweet. I have to admit, even though she had that little troubled feeling as she ran to him so joyfully, I still thought there was hope for that "something more."

But in the end, what they have is already pretty awesome.

This was positively wonderful! I loved the gentle play between them, and the oh so genuine grief that they could never take their feelings for each other beyond friendship. But friendship is sometimes the best gift of all. Marvelous!
