There had been something vying for attention at the back of his mind since the mission began, Geoffrey St. John realized with sudden notice. Not that it was wholeheartedly surprising; the mission had been a little strange before it had even begun. It was simply an information gathering mission; a Freedom Fighter had gotten captured only days prior, and all they had to do was go in, get information on where he might be being held, and leave.
As it stood, they were down by one before even leaving Knothole; Hershey had broken her leg only a week before, and had been unable to accompany them. A closed or buckle fracture from, out of all things, a fall down the stairs. Geoffrey worried about her, of course, but now was not the time to think about the woman he loved.
Not when the ‘something’ began to get persistently annoying.
“Stu, what’s yer position?” The polecat whispered into a small communicator.
“Almost there.” Came the similarly hushed reply. The younger Freedom Fighter was in a ventilation shaft; Hershey would have normally been the one to go through the vents.
Geoffrey shook his head to get it clear of thought. “How far’s ‘almost’?”
He thought he heard a snort. “Uhm, fifty feet? About five minutes or so, I think.”
The buzzing at the back of his mind was practically screaming, now. There was something fundamentally wrong; he simply couldn’t place it.
An implacable sense of wrongness shouldn’t usually be ignored.
“Stu, back out.”
“What? Why? I’m almost there!” The wombat practically whined.
“That’s an order, mate. Somethin’ isn’t right.”
“Yes, sir.” Was the clearly unhappy reply.
That was when everything went wrong. The sounds of shuffling were heard across the line, before a single frightened yelp erupted: “Oh, crap!”
“Stu?! Your position?!”
“Compromised! Oh, holy --” The call ended. Not even static.
Geoffrey decided that it would likely be wise to make his leave. He turned, intending to head away from the cliff edge he stood upon and head back to Knothole; he hated leaving someone behind, but there was likely very little that could be done about it now.
He got less than ten steps away, before coming face to face with about two dozen Combots.

“You know, Robotnik was never exactly sane in the head. Even when he was Julian Kintobor, warlord and all, he was a little.. Odd.”
“Hmm? What do you mean?”
“I mean, he probably had the opportunity to save any of his family when he was chased out or whatever from the Overlanders. Humans. Whatever. Don’t you think?”
“Probably.. What are you getting at, exactly?”
“Why do you think he took Snively with him? Unless, of course, I have the story wrong. The finer details escape me.”
“I know what you mean on the details, but.. Why do you even ask? What does Snively have to do with anything?”
“I’m just wondering, is all. Why do you think an overly large, slightly insane -- and only slightly -- would save a single small member of his family, and keep him alive for so many years? Why did Robotnik keep Snively Kintobor alive when everyone else was roboticized?”
--------------------
There were no hysterics, as Geoffrey St. John was lead down the halls of what had once been Acorn Castle. There was none of the desperate kicking and screaming that countless others had gone through, none of the angry shouts, or the howls of denial. Instead, bare stoicism was placed as a front. Bare, that is, if only for the nervous stiffness of the polecat’s limbs.
Geoffrey was clearly using everything he had to behave as the commander he was, but was unable to completely mask the fear.
However, fear was understandable; being led down stark metal halls by heavily armored Combots twice ones’ size will bring fear to any individual. Yet, the knowledge held firm that, once the corridor would end, the fear would only rise. Geoffrey fully expected to be roboticized.
That was why only surprise registered, when the corridor finally did end; there was no roboticization chamber in sight, despite the surprisingly large room. Simply one horribly overweight man, sitting on what had once been the Kings’ throne.
The man’s eyes narrowed. It wasn’t clear weather Robotnik was angry, pleased, or a combination of both. “Ah, Commander St. John. Pleasure to see you again.” However, the dark sarcasm was clear enough.
Suddenly, the surprise was gone. Anger maintained a hold; natural brown eyes glared at synthetic red. “Gonna gloat first, I assume?”
The only response to the angry query was a smile; a dark, malicious grin that Geoffrey immediately became wary of. It hardly ever bode well when the person holding one captive would smile; especially this particular person.
A long, tense few seconds of silence passed, before the dictator spoke again. “At first, I was angry.” Robotnik made no motion to rise from the throne; on the contrary, he seemed to relax even further into the velvet and silver. “Furious, I should say, over your little ‘double agent’ stint. To say that you brought me a great deal of frustration would be something of an understatement. However, I seem to have found.. Other ways in which to vent those frustrations.”
No words escaped from the commander of King Acorn’s secret service, if only for entirely different reasons than a scant few minutes before. Geoffrey suddenly found that he had very little idea what to say, what to retort. He found that the smile gracing the overlanders’ face stopped him from doing much else, other than to stand and glare. An empty pit began to form in his gut; he had the suspicion that he would personally find out how the mad dictator had been venting his frustration.
He was correct.
Robotnik was staring at him, now. At first, the emotion sprawled across the overlanders’ face couldn’t be placed; a dark, gleeful calm that sent unexpressed panic along Geoffrey’s spine.
“Do you have any idea, Commander St. John, how someone in my standing would express his frustration? With no real living, intelligent creatures around, other than myself?”
Torture small animals? Was the immediate thought that passed along his mind. Decision came not to express it.
Robotnik made a quick motion with a single raised hand; the Combots dragged him closer to the throne. That was when Geoffrey noticed, now far closer than he ever wanted to be to the fat overlander while restrained, what his other hand was doing, reached down beneath the fabric of his unzipped pants. Eyes darted away from the disgusting implications, only to finally realize what the expression along furless flesh truly was; sadism. Clear sadistic joy.
He couldn’t suppress the shocked obscenity that came out as nothing more than a whisper.
Synthetic eyes turned to look at the wall; Geoffrey did the same, if only to look anywhere but what was before him. Images flared to life on a plasma screen. This time, he was able to withhold his thoughts.
It was clearly a cell, what was playing along the screen. A live view, if the clock and date displayed in the corner were any indication. An unmoving mass of yellow fur lay against the wall, a thick metal collar wrapped around a small neck and chained to the wall. Stu was not conscious, and would clearly not be leaving any time soon.
“I suppose he would be more satisfying.” The hated voice was speaking, again. “However, someone more willing would be less.. Frustrating.”

Scene removed from Fanfiction.net:
To say that the man, known without affection as ‘Eggman’, was large would have been a vast understatement. Perhaps it was due to the accumulating fat acquired over many years of intense calorie intake, or perhaps it was due to a genetic factor. Case aside, Robotnik was, singularly, a very large man.
This did not go unnoticed by Geoffrey St. John, much to his horror and chagrin.
“You..” For a moment, the polecat was unable to speak. “You can’t be serious.”
Synthetic eyes narrowed, glaring proverbial needles into furred flesh. He spoke even as he began to lower his pants, still sitting on the throne. “Oh, I am very serious, Commander St. John. You either do exactly as I command here and now, or I can take the younger agent later.”
Geoffrey paused, staring at the cruel Overlander with undisguised horror. Time seemed to pass slowly, to the polecat, but enough time must have passed for impatience to settle. Robotnik took a glance to the live feed on the wall.
“How old is he? Twelve? Thirteen? So many young children amongst the Freedom Fighters. Children, however, are often the most satisfying, even if they don’t always survive it.”
Horror shifted to disgust. “You.. pedophile.” The word was spat, as if vile.
“I believe we’ve established that fact, St. John.” Robotnik grinned wickedly. “Now, come here.”
The Combots released him then; one shoved him several inches forward, arms still restrained behind his back.
Geoffrey paused where he was for several agonizing seconds, turmoil within his mind. This was the situation every sentient living creature feared, if only in the back of their conscious. There truly was no choice.
So, the Commander did as he was commanded. He took the few halting steps, fell to his knees, and stared with hatred and mourning at the creature before him. “..What do you want me to do?”
There was somehow very little surprise when the large Overlander said nothing; he simply shifted his position, and rammed his way inside. The gagging and coughing that was met in response was ignored, as the twisted rhythm began.
The skunk gagged, attempting to breath and failing for what seemed to be forever; what was inside of his mouth now was far larger than he would have ever suspected; he considered it a vague wonder that it was able to fit at all. Yet, it was barely that; he could physically feel it at the back of his throat, and it still demanded more room.
Robotnik was panting and had started to moan. “Use.. Use your tongue!”
A soft whine was all that managed to escape Geoffrey, before forcing himself to do as told; he knew that, once this was over -- and he prayed that it was soon -- he would be very, very ill.
--------------------------------
It wasn’t the strange noises from beyond his understanding that awoke him from the realms of the subconscious, Stu mused before he had even opened his eyes. It wasn’t the biting touch of steel around his throat. Rather, it was the pounding beats from the side of his skull. Recollection of a Swatbot striking him passed along his mind.
He groaned, waking with slow strides and blurred vision. The strange noises, sounding much like an exaggerated cough, slowed and stuttered, as if attempting to stop but not being able. It wasn’t for what seemed to be hours, but were simply long minutes, before he was able to fully grasp consciousness. What he saw did not bring him comfort.
His Commander was doubled over, hunched over what appeared to be a dingy toilet, vomiting violently. The fact that there was a toilet at all implied a longer stay than usual; it would have worried the young wombat, had he not had more important matters to think about.
“Commander?” Came the soft query. Stu winced at the sound of his own voice; the bump on the side of his head throbbed in time to his voice. “What happened? Are you okay?”
Geoffrey continued to vomit for several more minutes. When he did finally stop, the sound of flushing water the only other sound, he sat against the wall, breathing in heavy gasps. The polecat stared at him, clearly trying to rebuild the usual strength he possessed, before speaking. “Fine. Food must’ve been poisoned.”
Stu knew that it was a lie; there was no food in sight. The wombat lifted himself off the floor, intending to get closer to his Commander. “Are you su -- Hey, what the?” The steel around his throat pressed closer; he was collared and chained to the wall.
However, his Commander was not. Stu pulled at the steel briefly, surprised at the fact that he was chained at all. Even Geoffrey seemed stunned.
“I don’t know why he chained you an’ not me, mate.” Was all the polecat said.
“Fat bastard.” Stu sighed, testing the metal once more, before sitting back down, concern etched firmly along his features.
-------------------------------------
The two captured agents had gone around the cell multiple times, searching for any weakness they could exploit in order to obtain freedom. Conversation had been minimum; the wombat had tried to ask questions, but the polecat Commander has simply refused to answer them. It was obvious to Stu that something had happened to his Commander while the wombat had been unconscious; he simply couldn’t figure out what.
Combots had arrived at the cell several hours later; Stu had balked at their size and obvious strength, while Geoffrey took a startled step back. The fear that flashed along Geoffrey’s face did not go unnoticed by the younger agent; however, it was quickly put aside, as the Combots opened the cell, grabbed the suddenly stoic skunk, and marched away.
What was left in their wake was an utterly frightened and bewildered wombat, still chained to the wall. Fear and confusion clashed in his mind; his Commander was obviously being hurt in some way. Yet, both were being allowed to live far longer than he would have thought. Why? What was happening, that he wasn’t aware of? Were they going to be rescued?
For that matter; what had happened to the poor soul they were originally here to save?
---------------------------------
“I always thought Robotnik just wanted another intelligent human being around Robotropolis. That’s why I always thought Snively was there.”
“Then why not Roboticize him? Keep all the intelligence, but none of those silly personality quirks like fear and pain. No need to sleep, eat, or use the bathroom. It just doesn’t make sense; roboticization would’ve made it easier for Robotnik.”
“But, seriously.. You think Robotnik does that?”
“He’s still a man. An old, fat, greedy, man. How many men do you know of that can go for that long without sex?”
“But.. Ew, with his nephew? Pedophilia?”
“Any port in a storm. And, besides, we hear about pedophilia every day. It isn’t unlikely, sad to say. Which leads to my next question..”
“Oh, boy, here we go..”
---------------------------------
POV swap: Commander Geoffrey St. John
There wasn’t any other choice. I did what had to be done and, deep down, I knew that it would happen again. I blasted knew that the bastard would want to inflict more pain. I suppose I hoped it wouldn’t’ve been so soon.
I hoped I would have been able to mask my fear. Or, at the least, cover it with disgust. After all, the situation was everything ‘disgusting’ means and more.
Now, the most I can hope for is that no one would ever find out about this. Especially Hershey. She would probably never want to touch me again, knowing I willingly took that.. That.. That thing inside of me. Thank God that the bloody bastard only took my mouth.
The second time I was dragged into what was once King Acorn’s throne room, the bastard had already taken his pants off. That alone was something I did not want to see. Unable to hold back a shudder, I turned away.
Robotnik laughed. The bloody bastard actually laughed. He motioned to a screen on the wall, displaying the reason I did what he wanted; Stu. If I didn’t do what he wanted, as horrible and nauseating as it was, Stu would be taken by force. I was fairly certain that Stu wouldn’t be able to survive the experience. I couldn’t allow it to happen; not when I could prevent it.
So I did what Robotnik wanted. I followed his directions.
There wasn’t any other choice..
--------------------------------
The hum of technology was interrupted briefly; a clenched fist made contact with the machine before it, an angry sigh escaping the person inflicting the technological abuse. “For the love of Aurora, work!”
“Abusing the machines is not going to make it work faster.” A laughing voice called out. “It’s only going to make it worse.”
“This piece of junk hasn’t done anything good, though! Princess Sally ordered this hours ago; if we don’t get it working soon, she won’t be happy.”
“A machine is only as good as its programmer.” Was the smug, still laughing response. “Besides, hacking into Robotnik’s surveillance equipment isn’t a walk in the park. It takes a lot of work to get around the firewalls alone.”
“All this to find three people.. And it could be traced back here if we aren’t careful!”
“Then we just have to be careful.” The laughing voice paused. “And for the love of.. What did I say about drinking coffee over the equipment?”
----------------------------
POV swap: Special Agent Wombat Stu
When I first heard the stomp of metal feet on metal floor, I thought Commander St. John was being brought back. I mean, I was still chained to the wall; I didn’t think I’d be going anywhere any time soon. It was a complete surprise when two Combots showed up, alone, and opened the cell.
Defending myself would’ve been stupidity at the least. All I wound up doing was standing up and glaring at them. I had no idea what the two large ’bots intended, until one of them grabbed my arms, and the other somehow disconnected the chain from the wall. I was still collard, though I still didn’t know why, but I was now being led somewhere else. Without my Commander.
I have to admit, I was very afraid. I didn’t want to show it, but, inside, I was utterly terrified. The two Combots practically dragged me to the large room, when things began to get very weird, and very, very disturbing.
I saw my Commander. And Robotnik. Doing things I knew of, but had never considered doing myself. I must have gasped, because Commander St. John pulled back from what he was doing and stared at me in shock.
“Bloody hell!” Commander St. John yelped, anger crossing his face before he turned to stare at the fat Overlander. A single large hand pulled back, and struck my Commander across the face; he went flying several feet. A pair of roboticized Mobians were waiting to grab and hold him.
I recognized one of them as Valdez; I felt the blood drain from my face as I paled.
What was about to happen? Panic had begun to creep up on me.
“Bring him here.” Robotnik’s voice practically boomed. It was frightening just to hear, and even more frightening to be brought closer; especially since he was half naked.
That was when Commander St. John began to yell, angrier than I have ever seen him before. “Bloody bastard! You said you wouldn’t touch ‘im!” Obscenities the kind I’ve never heard before began to be yelled.
That was how I understood, with horrible clarity. I knew something had happened to Commander St. John, but I had never thought that I was being threatened..
But Robotnik was going back on whatever the agreement was. A large had grabbed my face, forcing me to stare at his fake eyes. “How old are you?” His voice practically boomed.
By this point, I was physically shaking. This was not going to end well for me, I just knew. The normally simple question came again, this time with a violent shake, when I didn’t answer.
“F-Fourteen!” My voice squeaked. I would have been embarrassed by the pitch, had the situation not been so utterly frightening.
Commander St. John was still yelling in anger. One of the roboticized Mobians holding him, a pink chameleon I had never seen before, covered his mouth with a metal hand. I heard him yell indignantly, now muffled, but it didn’t stop him.
A tug at the collar forced me to look back at Robotnik. He paused for a long second, smiling wickedly as I continued to quake in growing terror. With a sudden single movement, he turned me around, physically lifted me off the ground, and brought me back down with the worst pain I had ever felt.
My screams joined my Commanders’.
-------------------------------
POV swap: Commander Geoffrey St. John
The bloody fucking bastard went back on his word!
I screamed in anger, shock, denial and outrage against the metal hand holding my mouth shut. It didn’t occur to me for a long few seconds why my screams were muffled, ’til Stu started to scream in agony. Robotnik didn’t want me to tell Stu anything remotely comforting while this was happening.
I can’t believe that this is happening..
The bloody bastard was moaning even as Stu was screaming, grinning maniacally despite the blood that was starting to cover them both. Oh, bloody hell, there’s so much blood.. The pedophiliac monster stared at me for a brief second, signaling something with his hand to the robots holding me back.
What has once been Valdez, and how I always regretted not being able to save him, moved one metal hand towards the most sensitive part of the male body, and began to do something that caused me the yelp.
Oh fucking hell, Robotnik just ordered him to.. To.. I could only stare in shock and horror at the blank, unfeeling eyes of what had once been one of my agents.
That was when I began to cry for the first time in years.
-------------------------------
“Well, as much sense at your words make, the implications alone are horrible.”
“Uh, yeah. And I’m pretty sure that they aren’t only implications; I’m fairly certain that it’s fact. Horrible, but fact.”
“So, what do you suggest? If what you say is true, what do you suggest we do? You know as well as I do how dangerous this all is.”
“What do I suggest? I suggest we get involved. Or, at least, check to see if it‘s true.”
---------------------------
“Yes! Finally! Up and running!” A cheer arose amongst the assembled Freedom Fighters at this declaration. “Someone call the Princess! We can finally get this show on the road..”
Technicians typed furiously at multiple keyboards, screen after screen passing through codes and cameras. Scenes passed along multiple eyes, each different camera hacked revealed a failed attempt.
“Weird.” A serval frowned. “Not in the normal cells. Isn’t that where they’re usually held?”
“Not always. Keep looking.” A waxbill chirped in response.
Images continued to flash for several long minutes. That is, until an eland screamed. “Oh my god! Oh my god!” The panic was clear; it caused all others within the room to stop.
“What? Emily, what is it?” The waxbill would have ran if distance allowed it.
The eland didn’t reply; instead, she typed furiously for a long second more. Suddenly, every screen, including a single large plasma overhead, was overcome with a single horrifying scene.
Silence filled the room. No sound came from the images, but it was clear what was happening.
“..Oh, holy..” Princess Sally Acorn suddenly whispered from the doorway. She took two steps into the room, unable to tear her eyes away from the largest screen. “When.. When was this recorded?”
Silence passed for a long moment. The eland was first to answer, voice barely a sob.
“It’s live.”
---------------------------
By the time Geoffrey had been brought away from the horror that Robotnik was inflicting, he had only just begun to regain his emotional reserve. The screams and cries he had released, trying to do anything he could to rescue the friend who was being tortured bare feet away, while being molested by what had once been one of his agents had physically drained him and psychologically scarred him.
The polecat was utterly silent when he was tossed into the cell. There was very little care where he was now. There were, in fact, only two things he now desired; either salvation or death.
Geoffrey would not have made any motion to move at all, had he not heard a gasp from the cell. With slow movement, he lifted himself and turned; eyes widened in shock at what was before him.
A familiar brown porcupine, arms bound behind a quilled back, stared at him with undisguised surprise. “Hey.” Dylan Porcupine whispered. “I was wondering when the rescue team would get here.”
That was when the entire compound began to shake.
------------------
A mind numbed by pain had to struggle to reach awareness; eyes opened with slow movements, taking in the unusually dull rays of morning sun. At first, knowledge escaped his grasp, the dull throb of pain overcoming all other senses.
Once knowledge did return, he wished it hadn’t. Eyes snapped fully open, thoughts immediately churning in shock and horror. The pain wasn’t quite as dull as it seemed seconds before.
No sound escaped Stu; for the moment, shock was too great. Recollection of what had happened before he had fallen unconscious weighed heavily upon his psyche. It was several long minutes before he attempted to find out where he was now.
He was on the soft surface of a bed, staring at a cold, steel wall. A small window was on the far top of said wall, bringing in the sun that had awoken him from blissful unconsciousness. Confusion reared, not understanding the implications at first, until he realized that there was a weight on the opposite side of the bed. It was a struggle to turn around and stare. What met his vision was a new horror within itself.
A single, extremely overweight Overlander slept soundly inches away, wearing nothing. The young wombat had to cover his mouth to stop the scream. Unfortunately, the attempt to stop his own voice had failed; the beast stirred.
Pain momentarily forgotten, he turned back to the wall. His hands still covered his mouth, nearly hyperventilating. Breath stopped entirely when a laugh echoed against the wall.
“Still alive, I see. Can’t say I’m not surprised.”
Ohgodohgodohgodohgod.. Breath returned in short gasps of panic.
“Your Commander escaped, last night.”
Stu began to wonder how many times his breathing would deviate before he would fall unconscious.
“Rescued, I should say. That rodent princess and her ragtag group actually managed to get him out.” A dark chuckle. “But not you. You should have seen the anger and hate on their faces. Priceless.” An arm larger than most of his body made its’ way around his waist.
That was when the young agent could no longer stop himself from his own desperation, and gave in to the screams and sobs of his own mind.
--------------------------
“Well, this is certainly interesting.”
“See? I told you.”
“So you did. So you did. And the other one, the skunk guy, he got away.”
“Thankfully. But there’s going to be some serious issues going on for everyone involved, I think.”
“..So..?”
“Now do you think we should step in?”
“..Fine. But I’ll blame it all on you, you know.”
--------------------------
This can’t last forever
Time won’t make things better
I feel so alone
Can’t help ourselves
And no one knows
That this is worthless to me so..
What have we done?
We’re in a war that can’t be won
This can’t be real
I don’t know what to feel
