“Why do you let him do that to you? It’s ridiculous—you should just straight out just tell him to cut the crap!”
“You’re missing the point entirely,” the blonde tried; his shoulders lax and his hands jammed tightly into the pockets that his black cloak sported. He was watching his blue sneakers move in front of him on the ground, knowing that they were pretty much moving in vain, but finding an odd sense of serenity with the fact that they were leading him someplace…someplace unexpected and hopefully better than the bum life he was living now. Geeze, could he even call it living? He didn’t even rightfully own his own identity anymore. Some dumb bloke had stolen it from right out from under his feet. A guy he’d never met, but partially wanted to.
“Point!? What point are you talking about?” the pyro exclaimed almost furiously, extending a hand to stop his friend’s shoulder from progressing any farther down the puddled sidewalk. It never rained in this hole…but it sure as hell misted. There were some days where it never stopped misting. It was almost as if Mother Nature’s shadow dwelt here with them. Saddened with the knowledge of never being whole, she was unable to properly display any given weather. For sure, this was one of those days where she tried to make her grievances known. Tried. It was no matter to Roxas—he considered himself waterproof even if his clothing wasn’t. Axel was another story. He had a tendency to have quite the short fuse when he was soaked. “I don’t think that you’re listening to ME, short stuff!”
Roxas shook his head, but turned a grin back to the other male. “Aren’t you supposed to like… ‘not care’ or something?”
“Don’t change the subject!” Axel chastised harshly. He had quite the reason why he ‘cared,’ but he most certainly wasn’t going to divulge such a thing to the blonde, even if they were friends.
“Oh, come on, Axel… It’s not so bad…all I’m saying is—”
“He’s using you and you know it! That’s what you’re telling me, and god damnit, you’re right! I do NOT understand! I do NOT understand at all! He’s not ‘completing’ you Roxas! He’s destroying what’s left of you!”
“Riku and Sora are supposed to be together. That’s the way it goes, and I happen to like that it goes that way.”
“You are not Sora! YOU ARE ROXAS!” the other man exclaimed, grabbing the blonde’s defensively raising shoulders to give him a stern shake. “And he—not that it matters—is NOT RIKU! If he were a ‘somebody’ then he would not be here! He would be out THERE!” Axel continued shouting, here taking a chance to release Roxas’ left shoulder to gesture to the building behind them, “Somewhere else!”
“Why does it rain, Axel?” Roxas asked, his tone even and his face not expressive.
Caught off guard, Axel didn’t have an answer for him. “What? What kind of question—?”
“It rains when we’re together,” Roxas finished flatly. “Real rain drops. No mist. No fog. Just pure clear-as-sin rain.” Axel took a moment to consider what the teen was saying, and then quickly furrowed his brow, appearing as if he were about to explode again. Roxas spoke again before he could utter another word. “It rains because we’re together.”
Axel just fumed, his grip increasing on Roxas’ shoulders. “No! That’s—I—”
“I love him, Axel. I do.”
“It’s not love.”
“Let go of me. I want to walk alone.”
“You don’t want to walk alone, you want to go and find HIM. I’m right, aren’t I? You want him to hold you and tell you that everything will be all right. You want him to tell you that I’m lying to you.”
“Axel—”
“You don’t love him, and he doesn’t love you! He’s just using you because you remind him of Sora—you said so yourself! And you just think you love him because you know that he and Sora should be together!” Roxas was quiet in incomprehension for a moment before his friend continued, “You’re upset that Sora stole your life from you, and you’re trying to find a way to return the favor!”
Snap! There went that last straw. “Get OFF of me!” Roxas exclaimed, wrenching his shoulders from the other’s grasp. Dark shapes began to form beyond his knuckles as his main weapon began to manifest itself on cue. Axel took a step back, but not because he was afraid of Number Thirteen’s skills. He did so because he didn’t want to fight Roxas over such a seemingly easy issue.
“You go to him,” Axel ordered, “And you tell him to fuck the hell off. Don’t talk to me until you do.” Immediately, the pyro turned on his heel and stalked back in the direction that they’d come, his boots squeaking quite noisily with every step he took.
Roxas stood alone, watching the other male depart, hearing the sloshes and squeaks fading as Axel kept stomping away. His militancy gone, his weapon didn’t need a reason to stay. Finally, the blonde released a heavy and slow sigh, letting his eyes droop while he tried to let all of the annoyance of what Axel had just said to him roll off his shoulders. He wanted to leave all of that behind when he went to see Riku. Of course, Axel had the best intentions, but the blonde knew that the fiery red head simply could never understand what it meant to truly appreciate something. He was under Riku’s spell. Yes, that was for certain. He knew that the only reason why Riku so much as looked at him was because he reminded the mysterious male of his lost love, Sora. Axel was partially right, but just partially. He wasn’t trying to steal something from Sora, but he’d be damned if he wasn’t going to enjoy something wonderful that he’d actually managed to keep a firm grasp on. Yes. Riku was his, and he was Riku’s. He continued en route, taking a careful notice of how the mist and fog seemed to thicken as he continued moving onward. Would it be raining when he arrived at their secret castle? Would it be cold? Cold enough that he’d have a decent excuse for drawing himself close to Riku’s dynamite form? Immediately, a strong shiver went through his body. He’d be warmer once he got this cloak off.
