Disclaimer: I do not own Fire Emblem, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
So this was a challenge made by Demitri and therefore will be dedicated to him. I’m sorry it took forever and that it’s kinda scratchy in the first chapter but I really didn’t have an idea of how to start it…. I do have a way to end it however and I hope to exceed your expectations in this fanfic.

Three years have passed since Ike and Soren had left the continent of Tellius, landing on the distant continent of Magvel to continue their mercenary work. Ike and Soren made many new friends, including Gerik, Tethys and Marisa, mercenaries for hire in the kingdom of Jenhanna. They spent most of their time there, and Mist wrote to her brother often throughout these years, and somehow was always managed to get a letter to them via birds about how everyone was doing. The last one however was an emergency;

Big Brother!
I wish I could reminisce as we did in my previous letters but problems are brewing again throughout the continent of Tellius. Ena has contacted us; Kurthanaga was poisoned. He is near death and she fears that he won’t make it. Ena’s child is the only true black dragon bloodline left in Goldoa besides Kurth and fears that the child is next. She has contacted us about a contract and requested for your return as soon as you get this. Please hurry, for I fear that this might evolve into even bigger problems.

The next morning the two had set off by ship, and were within a Crimean port by the next week. Torrential downpours then occurred all morning on their way home. Ike and Soren ran every step of the way through puddles and mud. Soren himself wasn’t fond of the sensation that Ike got when mud squished underneath his shoes, but he was happy to be back in Crimea, the only home he had ever truly known. Within moments they reached the top of a hill which overlooked the Greil Manor. A faint smile grew on Soren’s face, something most of his old friends had never seen. During his travels he had learned to cope with most of his emotions with the help of Tethys, a curvy and firey red-head who seemed wise beyond her years despite being a dancer.
She had helped him come to the realization of his love for one of the Greil Mercenaries, though Soren would never tell Ike that it was Mia. The Lady of the Blades always had an obsession with Ike for his swordsmanship and always thought that the Sage was rude and ungrateful, mostly because he had been. He had come off cold to most of the mercenaries in the entirety, mostly because he didn’t know how to express himself and would usually ignore them. Hopefully that would change when he saw them all again.
“Hey Soren, hurry up!” Ike hollered from the bottom of the hill, “I don’t know about you but I’m kinda excited to get a warm meal from Oscar!” Soren shook the memory of his past out of his head. He was a new person; A better person. “I’m coming Ike! Wait up!” He said with a grin, running down the hill after him, “I want food just as much as you do!” The leader of the Greil mercenaries laughed slightly, running ahead of Soren. It was a matter of minutes before Soren caught up to Ike however, having the blood of a dragon laguz running though his veins. It made him live longer than most beorc and also gave him extraordinary abilities such as his magical talent.
Within the next hour they had arrived at the Manor and the rain was finally starting to light up. Ike opened the door to the manor and called out to anyone who could hear. No reply. Soren crept in behind Ike, looking around and absorbing in the familiar surroundings. It was definitely good to be home. Suddenly Soren noticed a piece of paper lying on the ground near the table. “Ike, on the floor.” He pointed out to him, “There’s a piece of paper. Maybe a note from Mist?”
Ike walked over casually, and picked it up, looking over it carefully. He nodded in the direction of Soren, confirming it was a note as he thought. Ike quickly began to read it over, skimming it in case there was something important. “Mist and the others have gone to Goldoa.” Ike said putting the paper down on the table. “She’s contacted Mia and Shinon who were traveling as we have and they’re supposed to meet us in Gallia if they’re not there already.”
‘Mia….’ Soren thought to himself, ‘I’ll have a chance to prove I’m not cold...’
Soren’s thoughts brought him to a flashback about the time that Mia had just joined their party. She had been held captive in Daein and was staying at their camp…

“So what’s your name stranger?” Mia said cheerfully as she pulled down his wind tome so that he could look at her. Soren however wasn’t too amused by this distraction. He immediately pulled the book up to hide his face again.
“…it’s not important.”
“Ike tells me your name is Soren and that you like to be by yourself...kind of a loner attitude if you ask me.”
Slowly Soren pulled the tome down, his dark eyes the only thing visible to Mia. On the other hand Soren had a chance to look over this female now. She had a full chest for a body shape that was similar to a boy, possibly someone even Rolf if he looked at the two side to side. Soren glanced at her once more before placing his face back behind the tome.
“I’m not a loner…. and why ask my name if you know it?” He accused.
“Because it’s coming from your mouth and not someone else’s.”
Soren’s eyes look up from the tome once again to see a playful smirk curl onto the indigo-haired girl’s face. Out of nowhere he couldn’t help but feel an awkward sensation arise when Mia smiled. It’s was unusual feeling, though nothing like starvation or nausea; Soren had never felt something like this before around someone… so maybe he was getting sick from this girl?
“I think you’re making me sick. Mind leaving me alone? Please?”
Mia looked in horror at the raven-haired boy, slapping him swiftly across the face before storming off toward the direction of Ike’s tent. Soren’s eyes were as wide as saucers. There was a burning sensation on his left cheekbone from her hand. He had never been slapped like that before. Ever. This girl must be crazy.
“I’d like to see you try to hit me again you Psycho!” Soren yelled angrily, rubbing his face tenderly like a dog who licked his wounds, “I didn’t even do anything wrong!”
The lady of the blades looked over her shoulder slightly in shock. She faced forward, a loud and annoyed grunt escaping her mouth before she called to Ike for a practice match.

When speaking to Tethys about this event, she explained that what he was feeling was attraction. Every situation that Soren had been with Mia and had felt that awkward fluttering in his stomach was showing that he had a love and deep caring for the girl. He wouldn’t mess up this time around when he saw her. He was sure of it, now that he had some help from Tethys and Ike.
The next morning the two quickly began their travels across the Crimean land to Gallia. Being that the Greil Manor was on the opposite side of the country, it would be a two week trip or longer depending on the weather and certain encounters. However the trip went faster than both had expected; They had reached the opposite border of Crimea within the week. This was also likely because most of the gang wasn’t here. When it was just Soren and Ike, they moved at a much faster pace.
“ It’s gonna take a couple of more days to enter the capital city in Gallia.” Ike said putting his pack down in a clearing just passed the Crimean walls, “I think we’re just better off camping out here. It’s better to be in the best condition we can be rather than looking and fighting like crap anyway. ” Soren though in a hurry to see Mia, nodded in agreement and set his pack onto the ground as well. Ike did have a point; He didn’t want to look ragged in front of Mia when they met. Soren wanted to be strong and confident… and possibly a hell of a lot nicer to her as well. Being cranky from lack of sleep was not an option for Soren.
As he pulled out his sleeping bag and flattened it out, Soren couldn’t help but look up at the slowly growing starry sky. It was then that a shooting star soared quickly above the forest. Soren blinked quickly to make sure that he wasn’t imagining it. “You saw that… right?” He asked Ike, “Did you see the shooting star?”
Ike nodded his head in disagreement. “You should make a wish since you saw it though.” Ike said with a soft smile, as if he knew what Soren would wish for, “Its good luck.” Soren tucked himself into his sleeping bag before he looked up at the now brightly shining sky, a smile on his face. He knew exactly what he would wish for.
“…A second chance….”
