A Minstrel's Chronicle: Song of the Hopeful Heart
Placeholder: The History of Khima
To all outward appearances, Khima is an elven scholar and traveler, fair of skin and ageless in complexion, throughout her time in middle earth, remaining largely unknown, the origins of her birth and her history, however, she has never shared with any. One elven scholar of sharp mind and keen intuition attempted to trace her history, though he has since sailed to the west, that particular endeavor confounded to trace no further back than her arrival in the elven refuge of Edhellond, in the second age, supposedly from the lands and people of the Nandor before. More puzzling to him as a friend who knew her was that her eyes did not hold the light of the stars within them, instead bearing a mirror of the light of her spirit, and this did, indeed, worry at his research of her.
In all things, Khima has sought to further her own understanding, and her knowledge of all things around her, even though this has sometimes led her to carefully seeking answers to things she ought rightly to know. Even so, an agile tongue and reassuring demeanor has allowed her to pass comfortable through the ages of the world drawing little attention to herself, while playing as active a role as she dares in the pursuit of peace and balance, both amongst the peoples of middle earth, and against the seemingly endless struggle against the Enemy.
Her words stir crowds and calm hordes, inspiring and checking, and more, evoking actual experiences explicable no other way than by the magic of her song and word. Her gift with song-wrought magics have surprised more elves than men, for men folk use the term magic loosely, and see fey actions in many activities of the elves. Elves who meet her know otherwise, however, and find her gift for understanding and manipulating the powers that flow through Eä puzzling; it speaks of an age and heritage belied by her name and appearance, creating in her an anomaly that does not quite fit in with the things around her. To those who attempt to look more deeply into her past, she appears as one who should be known, who must be known, and yet is not, or else as one who simply cannot be as they are, but somehow are all the same. Few younger elves come to ponder this dilemma for long, and she is more guarded in the presence of the more prominently senior elves still in Middle-Earth, making acquaintances only in passing, and moving on, instrument in hand and tune on her lips.
Another odd feature of Khima’s lifestyle is the strange nature of her character. When the situation calls, she carries herself with presence, and a calm, certain coolness that knows all things will most certainly go as she intends. She is scholarly and professional, rational and sensible to an unnerving degree, and yet, when it comes to the field of experience, she will always be the first one to step up for a chance to experience something for herself, and anything at least once, no matter what it is. This has often led to situations that those who only know one side of her might call very out of character for her, while the lads at the bar next to her, pint in hand, might say, for a prim and stuffy elf she’s not such a bad sort.
Present at the fall of Edhellion, Khima roamed far from there in the years that followed, watching the life and decline of the peoples of the world, and it was only after returning the Edhellion many hundred years later that she decided to see what sort of difference she might make.
It is from this point forward that the majority of the tales here recorded take place, though her life has been long and her actions innumerate, the concern lies mainly within the time frame toward the end of the third age. Other bits and pieces from earlier times will be recorded in Reflection chapters.
