This is part of a series, though stands alone in its own right as a collection of tales. This entry will contain the stories of Sarabien, master of forgotten lore. Until such a time as his tales are ready, this will contain some simple backstory for Sarabien.
Your comments are an education, through them I learn and strive. To know what you think is an important link, it helps keep my writing spirit alive.

A Loremaster's Chronicle: Noble Savage
Placeholder: The History of Sarabien.
Sarabien is an old man. Exactly how old defies proper guessing, and he certainly never tells, but he has been sighted around the towns and scholarly enclaves of Middle Earth for a great many years now. Even so, he remains spry and active, and for all appearances gets about as easily as a healthy young man.
A studier of plants, animals and the land itself, Sarabien has made his goals the protection of such, and bringer of wrath to others who would do harm. As much as a swift beating with his staff might do to send off everyday ne’er-do-wells, the ever advancing, pillaging, burning, destroying forces of the Enemy are not so easily dissuaded, and those who have witnessed him out in the field have seen things one might think should only be seen of an elf or other ebing of great lore and learning. But then, he is very old.
Sarabien himself, when discussing with a colleague has noted that, though the rune craft and wardings, the bindings and protections of the dwarves, an even the fae and incomprehensible magics of the elves, might seem utterly out of reach of the common man, with enough understanding, dedication and sheer force of will, they are not. He has claimed that, in fact, nearly all men have the potential to tap into the powers and energies that flow through and sustain Ea, but that the lifespans of men are simply too short to cultivate the proper learning, understanding and determination needed.
Such discussions usually lead others to question Sarabien’s age, however, and he unfalteringly sidetracks and diverts the conversation away. There are none who can remember knowing Sarabien as anything other than an old scholar, and his stories have placed him traveling with the elven minstrel, Khima, at times when he simply could not have been around, though most put this down to an old man’s embellishments. Even so, he seems to know the elf well, and they do indeed seem to act as old friends and traveling companions. He has been heard muttering under his breath about her inclinations granting her the easier path, though exactly what this means is anyone’s guess.
When questions of heritage are asked, Sarabien has always claimed to hail from Gondor, originally, and indeed his complexion seems akin to the folk of the White City. There is no doubt that he has spent a great many years there studying in their libraries and archives, but one soldier’s record mentions his arrival there as an itinerant scholar, many decades ago, describing him then, too, as an aged-seeming man.
At all times, Sarabien carries himself with an atmosphere of superiority and confidence, one who brooks no argument or dissent, and whom expects to be obeyed when he commands. Rather than being pleased with his ability to manipulate the earth and plants, fire, and in a pinch storms, around him through sheer force of will, he often seems agitated and frustrated by just how draining doing such is, and the toll it takes on him. He frequently mutters that it really shouldn’t be so hard. Though he has an easier time drawing effects from words of command, he refuses to this day to take Khima’s advice and try singing, or perhaps dancing, his will, claiming it would look simply too foolish for a man like him to attempt.
In recent years, Sarabien has been seen sporting a bright-eyed raven, called Storm, who appears to understand his words and instructions with complete accuracy, even in casual conversation. More worrying, whisper a few around Bree, Sarabien himself seems quite capable of understanding Storm in turn. The raven has flown far and wide, bringing back stories of the world, and after discussing matters with Khima, Sarabien decided that he, too would take a more active role in the fates of Middle Earth.
It it from this point forward that most of his stories will be told... I'm sure none of you want to hear about various decades spent researching bits and pieces or dusty material, no?
