Resting in the higher branches of large oak tree, a small bird whistled its song throughout the woods. It had remarkable feathers, being sky blue while many of its companions were various other shades. As it sat, its small body produced a generous helping of music for the forest to listen, though it was not the only performer. Many other birds were singing, some even daring to stage themselves on the same tree, a feat that would make any lesser bird retaliate. But the small blue bird was unperturbed; it was singing more for the sheer joy of it than the attention of the other woodland creatures. As a disturbance rustled through the woods, the bird noticing several animals scamper across the grassy ground. But they were heading towards the disturbance instead of away from it. Almost at the same time, it noticed several other private concerts suddenly become public, the birds aiming to impress whatever what heading toward them. The blue bird shrugged as much as birds could, and continued its symphony. It was a classic piece, hardly recognized or appreciated by other birds, all striving to be the newest feather in the breeze. As the last chorus finished with a low, drawn out whistle, the bird rustled its feathers, preparing for flight. It was a relatively simple process for the veterans, like itself, but it refrained from mocking the others when they made amateur mistakes. It was above that. Spreading its wings, it launched itself from the branch with impressive force for such a small being, yet its departure didn’t so much as shake the branch itself. Now that it was on the move as well, it was coming closer and closer to the disturbance. Although, the small creature knew that the anomaly was anything but a disturbance. It was almost another creature of the forest, but came just rarely enough for it to draw the attention of the other woodland inhabitants. Swerving around the base of a large tree, a large meadow came into view. Although it was surrounded by woodland, the nearby human village was close enough that some of its restlessness worked its way into the air. It showed in the animals, and how they anxiously gathered around the source of the commotion, a lone human. If compared to other humans, however, this one was as different as the small blue bird racing towards it. His skin was pink at first glance, but upon closer inspection a faint purple tinge could be seen. But that was negligible compared to his hair. His hair is what made him stand out, as it could be seen from a distance and instantly set him apart. Unruly and forever hanging in separate locks, his hair consisted of several colors. Some strands were light blonde with dark purple coloring at the tips, while others were a chocolate brown with lighter blue ends. His hair seemed to stay naturally parted in a way that one lock only had one color, but the locks themselves seemed placed at random. Anyone who knew him would say that he spent as much time fixing his hair as birds do preparing to land. Not only was he visibly different, he was also mentally different, enough to be attuned with nature and be able to form friendships with the animals. Currently, he was sitting in the center of a makeshift circle of small animals. A squirrel nipped at his left pant leg where the fabric was well worn with numerous small chunks torn out of it, a young wolf curled up lovingly at his right ride, and several birds aligned his shoulders and the grass around him. He was absent-mindedly scratching the wolf’s head, eyes closed and breathing in the fresh air. His eyes snapped open just as the blue bird came into reach. He whipped out at it, grabbing it out of the air. His grip was gentle enough not to injure it, but sudden enough to force a panicked chirp from its chest. He chuckled softly, opening his palm for the bird to stand on. “Got you.” If he didn’t know any better, Altius could have sworn the bird was raising an eyebrow at him. It was as if it was talking to him, and being out in the forest as often as he was, he was pretty accurate with his assumptions of what the animals were saying. This little game isn’t getting old for you, is it? Altius grinned, shaking his head. His various-colored hair swayed with each motion. “Not at all, Pic.” Pic stared him down, but was unable to keep from chirping happily at seeing him. It jumped out of his hand, flying in small circles around him, singing cheerfully. He smiled in return, trying in vain to follow the blue blur’s movements. The wolf’s ears pricked. Feeling it, Altius’s eyes narrowed, though the smile held steady on his face. Casually, as if nothing was wrong, he resumed scratching the wolf’s head, though he held one finger down the creature’s face, between its eyes. The wolf turned to its left, facing a heavily wooded side of the clearing. Patting his companion in thanks, Altius closed his eyes again, appearing to be relaxed to anyone else, but in reality trying to determine who was watching him. They were hiding; something that made him think their purpose there wasn’t all that noble. It might be another animal, but the birds around him had quieted some, leading him to believe it was another person. Or several people. He shook his head carelessly, sending the birds on his shoulders flying in all directions. He nodded, pleased that his message to the animals worked. Pic was still zooming around his head, making cheerful chirping noises. He wasn’t sure if his small friend knew that there was another presence just outside the boundaries of the meadow, but he knew he would be safe. Opening his eyes, he stretched, his arms reaching out behind him. Slowly standing up, the wolf lingered on the ground for a moment, the squirrel scampering away. The wolf looked up at him with worrisome eyes, but Altius merely grinned and jerked his head. “Alright buddy, I’m off for now.” The wolf nodded, getting to its feet. After yawning, it trotted off into the woods, playing into the decoy. Pic, in the meantime, landed on Altius’s shoulder, whistling softly in his ear. “I know…” he said quietly, the bird silencing itself. His lips barely moved, leading any intruders to think they bird had quieted simply to lack of response. Altius stretched once more, secretly scanning the trees for anyone who might spy on him. There weren’t many people who would spy on him to hurt him, but he was always careful. If there was one thing his mother had taught him, it was that anything could be behind the next tree. Of course, it could just be another wanderer like himself, not even looking in his direction. Nodding his head towards the dense woods, Pic took off, soaring above the trees in a matter of seconds. Altius, for his part, stared aimlessly into the higher branches, not looking for anything in particular but finding something nonetheless. It was in the area the wolf had told him, just higher up. Altius smiled. The wolf was still young, after all. It’s bound to make some mistakes. The figure up in the tree was crouched down, on one of the smaller branches, implying that they were either light or levitating. It was hard to make them out clearly through the tangle of leaves, and Altius only glanced as he didn’t want to give away that he knew of his newest visitor. Pic came fluttering back to him, but his sense of urgency had vanished. Chirping as he landed on Altius’s shoulder, the boy nodded several times. “Yes, yes, I see…” Raising his voice, he called out to the trees, “A little birdy happened to tell me that there’s a little night elf watching me.” He heard soft laughter coming from the trees, followed by a rustle and thud. Stepping through the trees came a night elf, true to his prediction. His face broke into a smile at the sight of her, though he had already guessed who it was before she ever stepped toward him. Her appearance, at first glance, came across as very normal for night elves. Her skin tone was a light purple, even throughout her entire body. Her hair matched it nicely, being a purple several shades darker than her skin. Her hair reached down to the small of her back, being completely straight. It parted at the center of her forehead, but while on her left side the hair was tucked behind her ear, a lock of hair covered the right half of her face. Behind that, something that Altius hasn’t seen very often, were three crescent moon markings on the right side of her face, all being aquamarine in color and tilted towards her eye, one above and curved to the right side, one to the right and curved downwards, and one underneath, curved towards her nose. Her face itself was round and cheerful looking, a smile touching her plump lips. Beyond that, she had long, pointed ears, natural for an elf, and faintly glowing eyes. The rest of her body was covered by her natural druidic garb, a dress deceptively made from plants. Despite that, it was difficult to hide the curves of her body. Her chest was moderate, yet somewhat large compared to most humans. Though he couldn’t see it now, he knew she had a delectably curvy rump, something he often fantasized about but never mentioned. He knew she was shy about it. She stepped toward him with the grace of someone who knew the forest inside and out. “Hello Altius.” He nodded in greeting, moving forward and pulling her into a hug. She glanced around quickly before returning his greeting, wrapping her arms around him and holding him closely. Sure not to hold on for too long, she released, letting him back away. She rolled her eyes and she saw Pic looking at her hopefully, reaching out and stroking him with one finger. “Hello to you too, Fripic.” She said softly, stroking him. The small bird chirped appreciatively, nuzzling into her finger. Altius chuckled softly, looking at his bird for a moment before back to the elf. “What brings you out here, Emyth?” She shrugged softly, still petting Pic. “Oh, you know. Enjoying the scenery.” He raised an eyebrow. “While following me?" Emyth put on a hurt look, pulling her hand back to her mouth. “Oh, you know I would never do that…” Altius grinned, poking her in the stomach. “Sure. How are you?” She giggled slightly, her act falling to pieces. “I’m alright. My parents were being…ah…” Altius nodded, gripping her hand supporting. “I know. Don’t worry, I’m here when you need to talk to someone.” He smiled warmly at her, squeezing her hand reassuringly. She looked at him, her eyes swelling with appreciation. “Thank you…” She grasped his hand in return, holding it for a moment before letting it fall. Looking at the ground, she noticed several of the animals who had been entertained by Altius had returned, crowding around her feet. The wolf was standing just behind her, and when she caught glimpse of him he hung his head in shame. Turning to face the young animal, she knelt beside him, scratching his mane. “Oh, don’t worry. You’re still learning.” The wolf rubbed his head against her hands for a moment before his ears pricked once more. A faint howl could be heard coming from somewhere in the woods. “Uh oh. Better get going buddy.” Altius said teasingly. The wolf grinned at him before turning to leave. “Make sure to tell your pack mother thank you!” He called out before the wolf disappeared from sight. Emyth stood up, facing Altius once more. “Care for a walk?” The boy gritted his teeth, debating quietly. “Well… I’d love to, you know that… but…” Emyth shifted her weight to one leg, placing her hand on her hip. “You’re ditching a lesson right now, aren’t you?” Altius shrugged, eyes locked on the sky, but she already knew. Pursing her lips, she gave him a reprimanding look. Pic began chirping in a way that resembled laughter. Her gaze turned on the small bird. “You’re not helping.” Letting out a few more chirps, Pic fell silent, but remained on Altius’s shoulder. He turned to look at his companion, grinning. “Yea, you can come if you want Pic. Dad doesn’t mind unless you distract me.” “Which he does all the time.” Emyth said, now tapping her foot. She looked ready to give a lecture, so Altius spoke quickly. “Alright, alright, I’ll go back. Are you coming with me?” He said, poking her again. She nodded, turning away to hide her blush. “I might as well make sure you actually get back to the lesson…” she sighed. Smiling, Altius stepped out beside her, the two making their way back to Stormwind, Pic riding along on Altius’s shoulder.
