It was a beautiful day along Route 4. The Pidove were cooing gently on the bridge supports, the Sandile scuttled along in their burrows, and the Frillish floated gently along the surface of the water. Everything was peaceful.
Except for the ground quaking and the loud roars echoing from the road that is… Whipping up a huge stream of earth and sand, a Rhyperior charged across the desert floor with all the grace and speed of a tank, spinning its horn in a devastating Drill Run. Reaching its target, it drove its horn into the ground, sending chunks of rock flying in all directions. Blinking its eyes clear of the dust, he bent down, searching for the crumpled body of his foe. Seeing nothing, he stood up, swiveling his head in confusion. Suddenly, he felt a light tapping on his cheek. Turning his head to the right, his eyes widened in shock: a Roselia was perched on his huge shoulder armor, eyes agleam with mischief. Seeing that she’d been caught, she gave a little curtsy, stuck out her tongue in an impish way, and slapped him hard across the cheek with a thorny arm. Roaring in agony, the Rhyperior smashed a hefty arm across his shoulder, but the Roselia had already hopped away, floating gently to the group about eight feet away. Standing behind her, a young man stood patiently, smiling down at her. “You may as well throw in the towel boy!” Raising his head, the boy smiled across at the man on the opposite side of the road; his fancy clothes and ornate purple cape clearly distinguished him as a Dragon Tamer. “My Rhyperior’s my trump carp, lad; he and I have been together for years and we’ve never lost a battle.” The young man smiled, chuckling softly to himself. “I must admit, that’s very impressive. But my Roselia’s special to me too. She and I have been together for a long time as well, and she’s definitely my lucky lady.” Hearing this, the Roselia blushed slightly, swaying her body side to side as a pleasant aroma wafted across the battlefield. The Dragon Tamer smiled as well, “I must admit, it’s impressive to see such devotion to your Pokémon in one so young. It’s a shame I have to crush you both. “We’ll see about that. Roselia, charge your Solarbeam now!” With a cry of “Rose!” the little thorn Pokémon raised her flowers skyward and began to concentrate. Slowly, specks of light began to coalesce around her body and she began to shine. The older man’s eyes widened; the Roselia was a lot tougher than she looked and his Rhyperior wasn’t a Solid Rock Pokémon. This could be bad. “Quickly, while she’s charging up, use Rock Wrecker!” The Rhyperior responded to the threat instantly. Reaching behind him, he tore a massive boulder from the rock wall behind him, earning a chorus of screeches from the family of Scraggys clustered behind it. One growl from the Rhyperior sent them scurrying into the desert. Spinning around, the Rhyperior hefted the enormous boulder into the air and suspended it in the air with his aura. Shining with a red glow, the boulder began to compress, helped along by shards of Rhyperior’s skin that broke off to crush it further. Finally, when the ball was approximately three feet wide, he launched it in Roselia’s direction. “Quick, Roselia, try and dodge it!” the young man shouted. Looking up from her concentration, the Roselia’s eyes widened. She managed to bend herself over backwards, swaying like a reed in a gale. The boulder whizzed over her petite form, speeding straight towards the young man. Realizing his predicament, the young man gave a very unmanly yelp, jumped to the side, and watched with bugged-out eyes as the boulder shattered into pieces a few yards away from where he now stood. Now Roselia was pissed; that great oaf had nearly injured her beloved trainer with his clumsy attacks. With a yell, she jumped into the air, her body ablaze with golden light. She spun in the air, crossed her arms together across her chest, then fired the beam straight into the Rhyperior’s gut. With a roar not quite as powerful as it has been a few minutes earlier, the Rhyperior crossed its arms across its belly, fell to its knees, then fell to the road in a dead faint. The crashing sound was heard as far away as Castelia City and the road cracked underneath its enormous bulk. With a cry of surprise, the Dragon Tamer rushed to his fallen comrade; the young trainer also ran over, only stopping to make sure catch Roselia as she fell slowly to earth. “How’s he doing?” “Well, he’s out cold, that’s for sure.” The older man sighed, pulling out a Pokeball and recalling his Pokémon in a flash of red light. Rising from his crouch, the man turned to face his young adversary. With a smirk, he offered his hand. “Congratulations, young man, you’ve raised a fine Pokémon there, not many can take on my Juggernaut and escape unscathed as she did.” The Roselia, perched on the ground beside her trainer’s shin, smiled and pulled on her master’s pants leg. Smiling down at her, he bent down and rested his palm on the road. She proceeded to scamper up his arm quick as you like until she stood on his shoulder at eye level with the Dragon Tamer. “The name’s Lancelot, it’s a pleasure to have had this match with you. Here are your two thousand Poke-Dollars as we agreed.” Still smiling, the man handed over a money clip stuffed with bills. Taking the money and tucking it away in a pocket, the young man gripped the gentleman’s hand in a firm grip. “The pleasure was all mine; you really had us on the ropes there.” The older man let out a quiet chuckle, “Yes, it was an excellent fight. By the way, I never got your names.” “The name’s Jonathon, Jonathon Banks. You can just call me Chris though, everyone does. My partner-in-crime’s name is Rose.” Smirking, Lancelot turned away back towards Castelia City. Walking a few paces, he looked back at Chris out of the corner of his eyes. “Well, it has been an honor to meet you Chris, your Pokémon are all very impressive. But really, Rose?” The young man flushed slightly as the little Roselia laughed quietly from her perch on his shoulder. “I told you, didn’t I? Rose and I have been together for a long time. She was my first Pokémon. It seemed perfectly appropriate at the time. Besides, you really like that name, don’t you girl?”While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
