Link was in the kitchen, getting ready for the family meal. Well more like the meal for the two of them, since his wife had died in childbirth. as he prepared the stew that he and his daughter Ester were to have for dinner, he looked out into the rain stricken skies of clock town.
Turming back to the stew, he heard a knock at the door. "Goodness, I wasn't expecting company in this weather!" he mumbled as he walked over to the door. Opening it, he found his old freind Kafei standing there soaked to the bone.
"I would ask how you've been, but with all this rain, I don't think chitchatting away without first inviting you in would be good for either of us!" Link exclaimed.
"So, old friend, how has Anju been?" he asked as Kafei warmed himself by the fire after being let in while Link continued cooking. Through chattering teeth, Kafei said "She's been well. how is Ester doing? Or did she get caught in this goddesses awful storm as well?" Link smiled.
"ESTER!!! dinner's ready! and we have a guest!" he yelled up the stairs to his two story bulding that he had bought with the remaining Rupees after he had gone adventuring all those years ago.
Kafei smiled as well when he saw her. "I trust you've been doing well?" he asked Ester as Link put the stew into three seperate bowls. He always made an effort to be kind to Ester, since she was the closest he would get to seeing kids in his own household.
A large crash was heard outside the house that made Kafei jump. "Some thunder, huh?" he said shakily as he calmed back down. Link smiled and nodded, but pulled Ester aside and said "Could you go outside and check on that? I know thunder, but I heard pots break, and noise in the sky doesn't break pottery. I would go myself, but I'd worry Kafei." then he went back over to his friend and began reminesing about the past.
The young woman stared out at the harsh storm through her upstairs window. The way the wind distressed the trees' leaves, how the rain pattered against the glass panes, it was mesmerizing. She sat with her nose pressed to the invisible barrier, listening to the cracking of thunder in the distance, when she heard another loud noise. Her father was calling her. Letting out a sigh, she swept her blonde bangs out of her eyes and headed down the steps, her apple green dress brushing against her legs as she went.
"Oh, hi Kafei!" Ester smiled warmly at the guest. She didn't expect to see him out in this kind of weather either, but it was nice to have company nonetheless. She found that the adults of the village were better friends than those of her own age, who would often exclude her from things. "Yes, I've been doing just fine."
Just then, her head whipped in the direction of the sound of clay smashing against the ground. 'What was that?' she wondered. She gave a nod to her father, opening the door, only to have her front sprayed with water form the storm and her dress whip around her legs as she headed out. She had to keep brushing her hair out of her face, as it kept blowing back and getting stuck to her skin. "Stupid hair!" she cursed, feeling around the side of the house to the shed where she had heard the sound.
Slowly she opened the door, peeking her head in. She was sure it was just one of those damn Keese that would get into the buildings occasionally and screw stuff up, but from the sound of it, whatever was in there might have been bigger. She reached over, grabbing the brightly painted hilt of a wooden sword, one she had acquired from a festival a few years back. Ester held it readily in front of her, ready to smack whatever was in there over the head with it.
Then, as her eyes finally adjusted to the dark lighting, she saw it. Amidst the shells of broken pottery lay a small person, perhaps three feet tall, knocked unconscious. The faux sword lowered, and her green eyes lit up with confusion. Who the heck was this guy? Just then, she noticed the massive, gaping hole in the ceiling. "Oh my Goddess!" she gasped, staring up through the splintered hole at the storm clouds above, then down at the odd person. At first, she didn't know what to do, or if she should go tell her father, but she finally settled on trying to wake this.... thing. She knelt down beside it, careful of the sharp shards around it, and shook it slowly. "Hey, wake up."
