    Chapter 10

Zira felt ridiculous. She wasn’t sure how this was supposed to make her feel any more cheerful. Yun had brought along his Sith armor and dressed her in it. It took forever to get the straps cinched down enough to fit her form.

She was only a fraction of his build, so he’d had a riot getting her into it. In fact, this seemed to be cheering him up far beyond her. “So…” Her voice resonated in the bulky helmet, “How is this supposed to help with anything?

The mirthful grin was wide on his face, as though he might burst into another fit of laughter at any moment. “Don’t worry about that, you’ll see.”

“I beg to differ… how the hell can you see anything out of this blasted thing?”

“It’s not about improving vision. That blast shield will deflect blaster bolts.”

    “Ooo, so I’m invincible now?”

He laughed again, “Hardly! No, a straight shot can still burn through it, and the armor can be weakened with consecutive hits.”

Or an over charged blaster shot. “Oh… got it. So don’t get shot more than once.”

“I’d rather you didn’t get shot at all.”

If only you had the power to make wishes like that come true… She thought bitterly, remembering the blaster wounds in both the Endar Spire and in the dueling ring. “So what am I supposed to be doing.”

“Well, to be honest, being scary.”

She paled behind the black visor. “Excuse me?”

He gave a shrug as he explained, “People on this planet are terrified of us right now. Some of them say the stupidest things if you just walk up and say ‘hi’ to them. It’s a gas. I had one guy offer me his wife for asking him directions to the cantina on my first night here. That was before they stopped allowing us to wear the suits there. Too many trigger happy activists who’d get a little to hopped up on ale and juma.”

She nodded, a sensation that felt extremely odd in the helmet.

“Don’t get me wrong… You’re not going to be doing anything horrible or anything. Just scaring a few people who probably deserve it.”

She wasn’t sure exactly what anyone could possibly have done to “deserve” being teased. She decided that he could be right. “Okay, what do I do?”

“Oh it’s simple really. I’ll wait here and you just wander around the apartment a bit. I’ll be right here. Just barge into people’s places and see what they have to say. It’s hilarious.”

She gave a heavy shrug, figuring it might be easier to understand simply by doing rather than asking.

The first couple apartments she entered didn’t help. They were empty, so she decided to fiddle around with their stuff. Her mind was still quite fuzzy from the drinks she’d had at the apartment, and she didn’t even realize that she was pocketing possessions she deemed useful.

In either the third or fourth apartment she entered, she finally found someone who was home. There was a small family grouped around a table. Okay… don’t be mean… Just see how they respond… this is supposed to be fun. She had watched them all stiffen at her presence.

She started poking about, finding a few cheap items. A medpac was sitting on a nearby desk, and she shoved it into her bag. Sure enough, the people didn’t even say anything to her. Finally she made her way over to them. She had just drawn a breath to say something to them when the father suddenly spoke up, his voice quaking. “P-Please… don’t take me away for questioning! I don’t know anything!”

Zira felt as though someone had just punched her in the stomach. The idea that he was suddenly so scared wasn’t fun. Not at all. Zira started to say something to them, but their young daughter spoke up before she could will her mouth to form words.

“You’re one of those Sith… my mom says I’m not supposed to talk to you.”

Zira realized she had been staring at the girl. Her hands began to tremble inside the silver gauntlets. I’m sorry. It’s okay, I won’t hurt you. The thoughts were screaming in her mind, but they refused to travel to her voice.

Zira watched in horror as the mother wrapped her arms around the daughter, enveloping her. The woman had positioned herself between Zira and her child. “Just take what you want and leave!” She pleaded.

The world seemed to leap away from her. She felt the sensation of falling in the pit of her stomach. This wasn’t fun at all… These people were terrified beyond words.

Maybe I misjudged Yun… How could anyone possibly enjoy this!?

Zira turned and left the room in a daze. Everything felt ten meters further away from her than it was. Her feet didn’t even seem to be making contact with the permacrete beneath them. Were the Sith really that horrible? Did they manage to instill so much fear in these people that a family couldn’t even talk to one without panicking?

She went back to Yun, to tell him that this game wasn’t fun any more. That she wanted to do something else instead, but when she came upon him, he had laid down on the small bench in the hallway and was snoring gently.

The sight of it did nothing to ease the sensation burning inside her. Forget this… I’m not having fun any more… She left Yun to his slumber, sure that no one would bother him.

In her bewilderment, she left the apartment building. The sun had set behind the massive, manmade mountains of durasteel. She walked at random, vaguely pointing herself toward the apartment where Carth was.

Her mind kept playing back the image from the apartment. The terrified look in their eyes, the way the man had reacted to her presence, and the way the mother swooped over her child as though Zira was some starving kinrath looking to make a meal of her daughter.

Suddenly something slammed into her side and almost threw her over the railing, which she barely managed to catch hold of. She spun on her assailant, her hand reaching for her blaster. It wasn’t there and neither was her sword. There were three men in front of her and each of them had the look of a seasoned veteran. The men were in there middle aged years, and they each bore several scars of combat. Two of them had a sun-darkened skin; the third’s skin was an extremely dark shade of brown that looked almost black.

“Woo, hey, look at this… it’s the Shith!” His voice broke for a moment as he hiccupped violently. “Oh no, I’m sho shcared! Hoo hoo hoo.” He mocked.

Zira had completely forgotten she was still wearing Yun’s armor. She drew herself up to her full height, which wasn’t a lot, and tried to look like a respectable soldier. Before she could even say anything the man with ink-black skin clapped a hand on the other’s shoulder.

“Careful… don’t do anything shtupid!” He too jolted from a hiccup. “We don’t want no trouble with the Shith.” A second hiccup racked the mans body.

Even through the visor on the armor, Zira could smell the alcohol on the men. The fact that they were each holding a bottle only affirmed her suspicions. She decided to just stand still, wait for them to make a move.

The first drunk looked to his dark partner, then deflated a bit. “Uh… yeah. You’re right.” The ale forced another hard hiccup. “Shorry about this, Shithy.” With a final hiccup the man staggered back into the other pale skinned vet. “Come on fellas, let’s go.”

She watched them stagger off towards the cantina. The last thing those idiots need is more booze. She leaned heavily on the railing. The alcohol still coursing through her system made all of Taris seem as though it were swaying and rocking back and forth.

The edges of her vision were beginning to shrink, so she willed herself free of the support of the walkway’s edge. Got to make it back to the apartment… She began to chant in her head. The walk seemed to take forever, as she stumbled along with heavy awkward steps. She merited several odd looks, but no one stopped her.

By the time she had entered the apartment, she could barely see anything in front of her. The little bit of vision that hadn’t been edged out in blackness was a dull red color. The apartment she was in looked foreign as she staggered across the room in search of her bed.

She began to grapple with the clasps of the Sith armor she was still wearing, and she sat heavily on her knees at the edge of her bed. She could feel a slight rustle on the bed in front of her, but between the helmet and the alcohol that had finally managed to hit her system fully, she was unable to see what had moved. In a panic, she tried to stand.

The sudden motion caused her to stagger back a few steps; her mind was swimming. A voice registered somewhere in her head and suddenly she felt a white hot pain in her shoulder. Whatever had hit her, it hit with enough force to knock her from her feet. She crashed down backwards onto the main table, the force of impact finishing to remove the helmet she had been struggling with a moment prior.

She put her hand to her shoulder and could feel that it was warm, wet and sticky. She pulled her hand away from her shoulder slowly and looked at it; it was covered in blood. The little bit of vision she’d retained drained away and she felt as though she was falling through the floor of the apartment.

There was a loud wrapping on the door that jolted Carth awake. He stumbled precariously to his feet and started towards the door. Even in his inebriated state, he knew enough to check that a blaster was at his side. He quickly pulled it and checked the charge, full. “Who is it?” He asked, his voice rough and scratchy.

“O-Oh I must have the wrong apartment, I’m sorry,” called a shrill female voice from beyond the durasteel door.

Carth opened the door anyway, his curiosity perked. He’d known people to use tactics like this before. Send someone to the “wrong” house to verify they were home before sweeping the place. The woman standing there was rather cute. She seemed to have all the proper curves of a woman. She was nearly as tall as Carth and had her hair pulled back into a tight, low pony tail at the back of her head. “Were you looking for someone in particular?” Carth offered.

“Actually… I was looking for a woman named Zira… She said she lived here, but she must have been lying…” She said, a certain defeated desperation in her voice.

“No, no. She lives here.” He said gently. Oh sure, just tell everyone on Taris your real name… Nice going Zira. While you’re at it let’s apply for residency and put on the application that we’re from the Republic! He shook his head free of the thought. She must have a good reason for giving out her real name. He amended.

“Well… she said that if I needed anything I could visit… My name is Dia. I… Well I’m a friend. Of sorts.”

Cause that doesn’t sound suspicious. “Come on in, maybe I can help.” He stepped aside and let her pass, his eyes sweeping the hallway for any sign of a tail.

“Th-Thank you…” She said as she stepped in. “So then, are you Zira’s husband?”

Okay, she’s not an informant… “No. Just a roommate. What seems to be the problem.”

“She didn’t tell you? No probably not… I just…” She trailed off, seeming to regard him scrutinizing now.

“It’s okay. You have nothing to worry about.” He offered in a reassuring tone.

“Well, it’s a rather long story.”

    “I’m all ears, beautiful.”

She didn’t seem to take very kindly to being called beautiful. She drew herself up and looked as though she might hit him. After a moment she seemed to think better of it and relaxed a bit, “I have a price on my head.”

Carth felt his eyebrows shoot up in surprise. “For what?”

“Nothing bad, I assure you. This miserable little beast named Holdan is the reason why. You see, he made some rather unwelcome advances on me down in the Lower City cantina. He couldn’t keep his hands to himself, so I encouraged him to do just that.”

    “How did you do that?”

“I gave him a nasty cut with my vibroblade. He got the hint, but then he decided to put a bounty out on me.”

“Can’t imagine that a bounty would get posted for something that trivial,” Carth observed.

“It does when your boss is the local crime boss, and the Hutt in charge of the bounty office is on his payroll. He pulled some strings and Zax put my name down without a second thought!”

“Maybe I can talk to Holdan for you.”

“Your friend Zira offered to do the same thing last night.”

“Oh she did huh? Well maybe that’s where she went then.” Come to think of it… where is she?

“Well I seriously doubt that. I pay the Twi’lek who runs the kiosk here in the apartment to give me a heads up if someone suspicious enters the building. He must know where my apartment is. I got a warning and bolted over here to hide out.”

Carth stood up and went to the door. He checked the camera display that showed the hallway. Sure enough, there were three men walking the hall. Two Aqualish and a Devaronian. Two of them carried blaster carbines and one a heavy pistol.

Carth looked over to Dia who looked to be unarmed. “They might be looking for someone else.” He offered quietly. The Devaronian set to work hacking open the door to the adjacent apartment.

Dia walked over and leaned against Carth, watching them carefully in the view screen. “I hope so…”

They went into the room and out of view. “Is that your apartment?”

    “No. Mine is one further.”

    “See, nothing to worry about.”

They came back out and started towards the door to Carth’s apartment, they still looked to be in the hunt. “Okay… or not.” Carth said forlornly.

“What are we going to do!?” She hissed in his ear.

“You said that you know how to use a vibroblade, right?”

She nodded, a terrified look in her eyes.

Carth crossed the room quickly and grabbed the vibroblade that he’d claimed from their attackers this afternoon. Damn it Zira, you better get back here soon!

He handed the weapon to Dia and checked the monitor. They had just gotten to the door. He leaned in close and whispered, “Go hide in the refresher, I’ll deal with them. If I don’t tell you it’s safe, you stab anyone who opens the door.”

She nodded again and bolted into the refresher. Joyous. I get to try to play hero for someone I don’t even know. So much for a low profile.

The random thought of Zira opening the door to the refresher and getting stabbed because Carth died fighting these men flickered through his mind. Oh well. Guess we’d be even then. Carth ducked behind one of the large chairs as the door opened.

The bounty hunters lazily looked about the room before starting to enter.

Carth took a moment to even his breathing before rising up from his hiding place. He opened up with his blasters, one aimed at each Aqualish. They didn’t stand a chance. His blaster fire burned through one’s head and the other’s neck pitching them both backwards into the hallway. The Devaronian leveled his carbine at Carth. Before he could fire however, Carth threw himself to the side. The blast blacking the wall behind where Carth had been just a moment before.

Carth landed heavily on his side and opened up with as many shots at the assailant as he could manage. The man had tracked Carth with his weapon but never got a chance to fire off a second shot. His body was riddled with blaster scores and he doubled forward onto the ground. Carth jumped to his feet and rushed to the door. He swept the hallway, looking for any sign of movement.

After a few moments he slipped out into the hallway and made his way towards the main entrance. Sure enough, he found two more bounty hunters covering the door. He reached into a compartment on his belt and pulled a frag grenade he’d gotten from Zira. He twisted the timer dial on the small piece of metal and tossed it between the two of them.

They both looked down at the noise but before either of them even had time to react the device detonated. Shrapnel ripped through their flesh as they were thrown away from the blast. They both hit either side of the large door frame and collapsed to the ground. He went over and policed there bodies, finding two more frag grenades to replace the one he used.

A quick sweep through the rest of the apartment building proved that there were no more hunters. He took a few minutes to check them for usable equipment before hauling them over to the main door way to be cleaned up by the droids.

He rushed back to his apartment and sealed the door. He holstered one blaster, but kept the other in his hand. Just in case.

He wrapped gently on the door, “Dia, it’s me.”

The door whooshed open and she threw herself out into the room, her slender arms wrapping tightly around his chest. He could hear her sobbing into the fabric of his jacket now, so he wrapped his arms around her soothingly. “Shhh” He began to chant in a comforting tone. “It’s okay now.. Shhh”

“I thought that I was done for, for sure!” Her shrill voice called, muffled by his jacket.

“I wouldn’t let that happen.” He wasn’t sure why he said it, but he couldn’t take it back. Besides… it is true, isn’t it?

She reached up suddenly and laced her long fingers in his hair. She pulled him tightly against her and pressed her lips firmly against his.

Her lips were salty against his own, covered in her own tears and he found he didn’t have the heart to stop her kiss. He began to kiss her back, deeply. It’s only cause she needs this. He rationalized.

He felt her arms slip from around him, but the kiss was all he could focus on. He heard the thud of his belt hitting the floor and he could feel her pawing at his pants, still kissing him raptly.

He tried to think of something to say, to do. He felt his pants part and her hands were suddenly rubbing his shaft in her hand. It had already become hard to her touch.

Without any warning, she broke from the kiss and dropped down to her knees. Carth barely had time to draw a breath before she had taken him into her mouth. His drawn breath becoming a gasp of pleasure instead.

He could feel her twisting her tongue back and forth across his delicate member as her head bobbed in and out. A deep throated moan escaped his lips, and he ran his fingers into her hair.

Mid-stroke, she reached up and undid the clasp that kept her hair up in a tail and it cascaded down around her neck and breasts.

The sensation was so intoxicating that Carth could no longer tell her anything… certainly not to stop.

She continued for a few minutes before rising back up, her hand still stroking him.

“A-Are you sure you want this?” Carth finally forced out.

    “I need this!” She exclaimed.

She pressed her lips back against his and he felt himself being pushed backwards. It only took a few steps until he could feel the bead against the back of his legs and he sank down onto it, Dia following.

He could feel her bare legs against his as she drew herself up into position. He barely had time to consider when she’d taken off her pants before she had positioned him at her opening.

They both drew a deep breath simultaneously as she thrust herself down upon him. A loud, shrill moan erupted from her and she began to rock herself forward and back.

Carth couldn’t remember the last time he’d been with a woman, and he began to wonder that as Dia started to thrust her tightness rapidly around him. He found his breath had matched the erratic tempo of her hips. Each new thrust driving him more and more wild.

She pulled her tunic over her head to reveal a pair of perfect breasts, and Carth instantly had them in his hands. He was gripping them firmly and rubbing them in circles, her nipples between his index and middle fingers.

She squealed with delight and quickened the pace, she was now bouncing up and down on him. She pounded her pelvis into him with renewed strength. Carth drew his hands around her back and pulled her forward. She collapsed onto him, but her hips continued to rise and fall.

He had begun to time a thrust with her, driving himself as deeply into her as he could before here gentle flesh released his own. He grabbed hold of her and took as much of her breast into his mouth as he could in a long suckling kiss.

Then he lessened the amount of flesh in his mouth to just her nipple, biting it gently. He could tell it was driving her wild by the chorus of pleasurable screams blaring from her.

His hands slid down her soft skin and onto her hips, as she lifted herself up to all fours over top of him. They had found perfect rhythm now. He could feel himself driving deeply into her with each passing thrust, her body illuminated in the moonlight that came through the transparisteel window.

Her perfect, pale silhouette writing over top of him had become the focus of his entire world. He pounded himself into her, her tight wetness accepting him completely. He could feel her begin to spasm around his shaft, the sensation was tightening down on him even as he thrust.

She suddenly shot straight up, her steady moans becoming one long scream and he could feel her clamp down around him. The sensation was too much to bear and he felt himself release inside her. She moaned out again as they both rode out the waves of pleasure that washed over them.

    She collapsed onto him, panting.

He found himself short of breath too, his arms wrapped tightly around her. “B-better now?” His voice cracked from strain.

“Mmm, hmmm!” she returned throatily. “I just realized… I don’t even know your name.”

    “It’s Carth. Carth Onasi.”

She gave a gentle nod and mouthed his name once before pleading to him in a whisper that was barely audible over the pounding in his chest. “Carth… can I stay here with you tonight?”

He felt himself already starting to lose consciousness. “Sure.”

She gave a contented little moan and slid off him and onto the bed beside him. He sat up only long enough to remove his jacket before laying back down and wrapping his arm around her.

She felt warm against his skin. Her tender flesh pressed it’s way up against his side as she laid her head onto his chest. “Good night, Carth.” She said lovingly.

He smiled slightly and murmured drowsily, “G’night Dia.” He said as he drifted off to sleep.
