Gwen debated how to go about activating and using the sword as she packed the last of her rations. She decided taking it out into the country side, sitting in a large field in the Nibenay Valley. She had taken Shadowmere to make the trip faster, and for company, since the mare was far smarter than she looked at first glance. Dismounting and taking the sword from its place behind the saddle, she stood in the middle of the field, getting a feel for the weight of the blade, and began to channel its power. At first she felt nothing, but when her thoughts turned to the story and she began reciting lines of it, for she had brought the book with her for reference, the sword glowed brighter, showing her more than just Shadowmere and herself standing in the beautiful field of flowers. She saw creatures and men dotting the countryside all the way to the Colovian Highlands, but then, when she spoke the lines relating to the man’s final stand against the clannfear and his losing battle against Vile, a single figure appeared far to the east, towards the home of her people, Vvardenfell. But it wasn’t in Morrowind where the man rested, it was in the mountains between her native land and Cyrodiil, where Rowan the minotaur had said his tribe was from. The dark elf waited for a moment after using the sword to see if a lesser monster would be summoned to her area, and when she saw the area was clear, went to put the weapon away on Shadomere. No sooner had she taken a step towards the horse than a dozen creatures erupted into the area surrounding her. This many after using it just once? she thought, panicking slightly as two Xivilai, three clannfear, two daedra spiders, and five daedroth sprang for her and her mount. She hurled herself onto the powerful mare’s back, thankful that the horse could not be killed, if the legends surrounding her were true. Shadowmere ran for high ground once the young woman was in the saddle, not waiting for the girl to settle. The mare knew that blade would be trouble for them. It hadn’t felt right when it was put in the carrying case behind her saddle, nor did she like the shine of the blade when Gwen had used it. And now daedra were chasing them. At least daedra had never been hot on her tail in her time serving Lucien, but he was a cruel man, not deserving of her talents like Gwen, a true champion. The dark elf dropped off Shadowmere’s back when they reached a narrow trail in the forest, standing in front of the horse who was just as ready for a fight as she. The two had chosen the small winding path on the hillside to gain the advantage of higher ground, and there was a convenient plateau nearby that they could hopefully lure the daedra over to. No one would survive that drop, not even the xivilai. “Come on you, take your best shot!” she shouted at them, edging towards the ledge that jutted out of the hill. The daedroth took her bait heedlessly, bearing down on her too fast to notice the perilous fall that awaited them. She ducked under their blows and rolled between the legs of the largest of them, then turned and kicked him over the edge. She soul trapped the others before shoving them over, feeling the power transfer to the gems she kept with her. She turned her attention to the xivilai next, as Shadowmere was making quick work of the daedra spiders and one of the clannfear. Gwen easily blocked the clannfear’s attempts to hurt her, its claws raking across her shield with an ugly sound. A few swings of her sword did away with it, then she turned her attention to the only remaining offenders, the xivilai. One had chameleoned itself, but with the enchanted sword so close by, she could easily tell where it was. She drove her own blade home, striking the creature down before it realized she had seen it, then finished the other with help from the large black mare. She searched the bodies for any alchemical items, then continued on her way, noting that she did not know much about the area between here and Morrowind. She thought of trying to find Rowan with the sword, but realized that would bring more daedra. After debating with herself and asking for Shadowmere’s approval, who was always ready for a fight anyway, she took up the enchanted sword once more and thought of the minotaur, saying his name out loud a few times and speaking of the enchanted cloak. There were a few more daedra to deal with afterwards, but she felt it was worth it, as it gave her practice with her blade. The clannfear and xivilai that descended upon them were dispatched quickly, and they set their sights towards an ayleid ruin in the southern part of Cyrodiil, where Rowan was currently exploring. It took the pair nearly a day to reach the ruins of the old heartland high elf city. She hoped that the minotaur had not roamed far, for she did not relish the idea of using the sword to find him again. Gaining his aid would be the best for both of them, as she had no experience in the mountains, and he still wanted to repay the kindness she had shown him. Gwen dismounted wearily, attentive to the noises around her, since many creatures and animals called the area home and did not react well to unwanted guests. She realized that the minotaur had chosen Arpenia to go adventuring in, and wondered if he had gone near the city of Leyawin, which was not too far to the south of the ruin. She crouched down, then snuck her way through the stone door, and, casting a powerful detect life spell, went in search of the gentle beast.
