The week had finally ended. Leaving Lianne at her mother’s inn, Lord Dumah grinned at her, saluted mockingly and turned his horse around to depart. The thing was even bigger then her mother’s war horse and she had a suspicion that it was a great horse. She watched him leave in amusement. The day had dawned behind cover of clouds and she had been returned four hours earlier then had previously been planned.
Grinning with delight at being home, Lianne ran inside and hugged her brothers tightly. "Hi to you too sister dear." Charlie and Joey chimed together. Derrick merely held her tightly for a second and released her. Richard was nowhere to be seen. Derrick’s children were playing with of all things Blizzerren! The dog got up with all three of them on his back and with a good natured nuzzling he greeted her.
Welcome back Lianne-Human. Raziel-Master says to be good and sit at home three days then come back. He informed her. Lianne nodded petted his gigantic head as if he hadn’t just spoken into her thoughts. He wandered off leaping into the air a few times to the delight of his riders. He was very careful with them she noticed and seemed to adore the way they sprawled on the floor playing with him like a bunch of puppies.
Lianne got right back into the swing of things at the merry traveler. The days flew by in graceful ease, the familiarity of family easing any misgivings that might have lingered around the week she spent with Dumah. She dressed well the morning of the third day, knowing that by full dark she was expected to be on her way to Lord Raziel’s stronghold. This time going overland on Blizzerren’s back.
Blizzerren nuzzled her about dark and suggested that they leave now. "The sun doesn’t bother me as much as it does the two legged vampires Lianne." He informed her in her mind. "I should hope not Blizz!" She replied and they laughed together be fore departing. Nether paid any mind to the skulking shadow around the corner by the general store.
She was on her way when she felt her lord’s presence growing nearer. She smiled brightly as he stopped in front of her and Blizzerren. "Come to me Lianne!" He commanded. She jumped off of the great dog’s back and flung herself into his arms.
In the next minute she found herself nearly undressed and through the link she could feel his longing. It scorched her along with her own passion, making her need thrice as strong as it had been by itself. "I missed you so Lianne." He murmured against her throat, then flipping her onto her back just as he had the first time, he sank his fangs into her creamy white thigh.
Lost in his ecstasy as she was she felt no pain. The power of her master’s mouth and throat as the worked to pull the ruby nectar from her veins made her dizzy and the spot went numb where he had pierced her tender flesh.
Raziel was stunned when he realized what Lianne had awakened in him. The numbing fangs! Admittedly they were a lesser fang, but not for ever. Once they fully developed they would morph into the poison fangs! He snickered in unrestrained delight. Then, remembering what other delights awaited him, he focused once again on Lianne.
Lianne cried out in bliss as her master slid home inside her. There was nothing to compare to the feeling. The rightness, the rapture of being whole, the soul searing joy of being with her destined mate. She arched her hips up to meet his thrusts. The high pitched Vampiric keening he was making, though barely detectable to her ears, still sang through her spirit like the sweetest music.
Several hours had passed, and a chilled Lianne had gotten to take another bath. She was seated on a rug by a huge fireplace large enough to roast several oxen in. Blizzerren was laying contentedly with his head in her lap enjoying a few good rounds of ear scratching. By the table still covered in charts and maps Lord Raziel was contemplating where to place patrols of vampiric minions during the day to control the activities of the few remaining Serafan. All in all a homey scene that was destined to fall into ruin.
A servant stepped in, bearing a similarity to Matthew that Lianne chose to ignore. Each of the vampires seemed to have whole families who willingly served them generation upon generation. His message however could not be ignored. "Lord Raziel, Lord Rahab has come to see you upon a most urgent matter." At Raziel’s nod the servant went back out and showed Rahab in. Lianne’s hackles went so far up that they practically lifted off her skin. Something was deeply inherently wrong!
"My Dear Brother." Rahab greeted Raziel. "I am afraid that I have come to seek one of your children’s death." Raziel arched a brow in concerned curiosity. "At present I have no idea if she is alive or dead, but one of your fledgelings snuck into my territory several hours past and stole my new favorite pet. If she yet lives I wish her back. If not then I will settle for vengeance upon your ignorant progeny." He informed her lord.
"Lianne, that spell you spoke of wishing to try…use it now and find my brother’s property." Lord Raziel commanded her. Lianne spoke a chant and reached out with her thoughts. Every few seconds she would clap her hands, and with each clap her eyes would look out of a different statue or gargoyle in her master’s domain.
After about seven claps she located a rather young fledge making his way down the hall only a thousand yards into the deeper caverns where the fledges still slept while they feared sunlight. "I have him. Shall I animate the gargoyles and have them separate him from his victim? He is looking most confident, and I would say he is near his rooms. We all know what happens when he gets her behind closed doors." Raziel and Rahab both nodded emphatically.
She reached out and brought life to several looming gargoyles that clung to pillars and stood on pedestals near the entrance. All the while holding the sight spell and following her target. She rose from the seat she occupied by the fire and without hesitation Blizzerren allowed her onto his back. Still driving the gargoyles she forced them to catch up with the swiftly moving vampire. He looked quite frightened. She smirked in satisfaction as she clung to Blizzerren’s collar. He was sprinting fast as he could go to keep up with the sprinting Rahab.
She held the spells locked in her left hand, while gripping Blizzerren’s collar so tightly with her right that the knuckles had turned white. Lianne did so as much because she shared the stone’s pain at being a moving thing, as fright that she might be thrown off the canine vampire’s back into a stone wall at such incredible speeds. Such was the price for being able to bring statuary to life at her skill level. She could see six of the seven she had brought to life, including a huge winged vampire statue, encircling the fledge and keeping him from fleeing or harming the girl. She spoke through the basalt gargoyle that guarded the woman. "Do not fear, your master and mine are coming to save you." She whispered.
The Girl Nodded and spoke back. "Tell my master to hurry! I‘m scared!" her eyes showed way to much white all the way around, and she looked to be going into shock. Lianne urged even more sped out of Blizzerren, who loped along with ease now that he was used to Lord Rahab’s stride. They came upon the scene moments later. The poor woman had passed out from sheer terror and exhaustion. Her injuries had not helped her state any, she had fought and struggled against her captor. For one as untrained and ideally feminine in her weakness as she appeared to be this was a foolish thing to do.
Before her training in the arts began, even Lianne doubted she would have had the strength to face this particularly cruel and vicious son of Raziel’s. She immediately prayed to the goddess that the woman would survive. She had a feeling that she could get to like her just from her courageous actions alone. Lord Rahab obviously adored his new servant more then he cared to express in words. With barely a nod from Lord Raziel he began to rip the foolish fledge to tiny pieces. Once he was sure that he was dead, Rahab looked to Lianne and said, "Light this filth. Let nothing remain but ashes!"
She did as he asked, knowing from her bond that Lord Raziel approved.
The woman, who’s name was Rachelle, did indeed survive her adventure. She and Rahab settled in for a long visit upon Lianne and Matthew’s advice. After such a shock she should be allowed to heal, they told Rahab, who agreed with a glance at his brother to see if it was alright if they stayed. Lianne began to heal the wounds suffered by Rachelle and as she did so she got to know the woman a bit better.
She was of an age with Lianne and had been brought back by Rahab from the farthest flung, free human, farming commune out past the city of Middleton. Rahab and several dozen of His Rahabim had been chasing a group of Serafin soldiers when they had come upon a burned out building with a family standing their staring vacantly at their former home. The Serafin had begun taking them as hostages. Unfortunately three of Rachelle’s siblings were slain that day. However, her mother and two remaining brothers, as well as an elderly Uncle had been brought back to Middleton to dwell with some family there until the season was right for rebuilding.
Rachelle had been saved by the sensual water dwelling Lord himself. This had a profound effect on her outlook regarding the vampires of Nosgoth. Lianne knew from past experience how sweet and seductive Lord Rahab’s kisses could be, and so she smirked knowingly as Rachelle recounted her rescue and eventual decision to stay with Lord Rahab. "You love him, do you not?" Rachelle asked of Lianne. It was just as apparent to the slender farm girl that it was so as her condition was to Lianne It was almost as if she was seeking someone to tell her it was alright to love someone so apparently monstrous. Lianne willingly gave it to her.
"Of course I love him my dear new friend. In his round about way he saved me from a far worse fate then death at the hands of a Serafan. Someday when you are better I will regale you with tales of Thomas the Cruel. Son to my village’s mayor, and my former betrothed. But that is for a time when your stomach is far more settled then it is at present. Okay?" Rachelle nodded and smiled softly as more of her pain eased.
The first day Lianne had been unable to heal the girl because of her actions with the statuary. Every time she had tried she had blacked out, her inner wellsprings of power blocked off by the way she had enflamed the channels of energy flow with harsh use. She was still going slowly as her head would begin to ache if she over did her attempts to restore her new friend.
A harsh banging on the door roused them from their girlish conversations over love and the odd forms it had taken in their lives. "Mistress Lianne! Lord Rahab asks that you come immediately! Something dreadful has occurred!" Lianne lifted her heavy skirts, almost wishing for the tunic and pants that she had been ordered to burn when Lord Raziel saw them replaced by a classier ‘work’ dress, as she ran. She came to Lord Rahab, who looked very pale, even for a sun loathing member of the moon walking kind.
"What matters Lord Rahab? Why was I pulled away from Rachelle?" Lianne asked in fear. Her heart informed her that Lord Raziel was very far off indeed, and not even a Vampire could have reached such a distance naturally in the hour since she had last seen him! Fear Chilled her bones and seized her spirit in its icy grip. "TELL ME! WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MY LORD!" Lianne demanded when Lord Rahab hesitated.
His voice was calm, though what it told her was enough to terrify even him. "We are uncertain as yet what actually happened. Lord Kain had my brother in chambers speaking to him on a mundane matter when a great magical energy was felt. It is like none that I have sensed since we first came to battle with the Serafin Lord of the past ages. Kain’s servant, the Ancient Magus Peter, was the only witness to the event and he lies dying, as we speak."
Lianne wanted to break down, but she knew she couldn’t. without Peter, she was the best magical talent in among the clans. She had to find out what had happened to the two most valued Lords in her life before something terrible and irrevocable occurred to them. So she picked up the heavy skirts and ran to the place that led out of Lord Raziel’s territory to clan sanctuary. An equally hurried Rahab activated switches and disarmed traps. Soon she found herself at Peter’s bedside.
She scanned him magically and found that his injuries were beyond hope. Choking back sobs she spoke softly to the elderly gentleman, who was her friend as well as one who reminded her of her own grandfather. "Peter. I am sorry I have not the skill nor powers to heal you. Please forgive my inadequate ability, and pass on bearing me no grudge." It was the ancient healer’s plea.
Not every patient could be saved, and it was often that those the healer loved most became the most vengeful spirits from losing all the hope that the idea of their beloved healer coming to the rescue had given them. Though blood bubbled up on his lips he managed to speak a little more. "I hold no grudges. Even your ancestor could not stave off the reaper who has come for me. All I wish is that Lord Kain and Lord Raziel be brought home safe. Then I could go to my rest knowing my duty was well served by my last struggles." He said softly.
"Share with me all that you would have me know that might help save our Lords from the fate that has befallen them. That and all you would have the young Peter know of how to serve. He is so young I am certain his training is incomplete." Lianne beseeched the elderly Peter. The young Peter sat at his grandfather’s bedside opposite Lianne awaiting the heavy weight of duty that would soon fall upon his slender shoulders.
"I will give you all that I am for the sake of the boy, and for my Master Kain. Take my memories and wisdom from me Lianne. Do it swiftly, less my old heart fails before you finish. I do not wish to be called up as a spirit once I am dead." Lianne nodded in understanding at his comment. He was most weary, was this ancient and revered friend of hers. His term of service had worn away all the strength he had possessed as a youth and left nothing but an old achy shell behind. It was time for him to pass on, and he had done so in the way he most wished, receiving mortal wounds defending his beloved, whom he called his master.
For that was what Kain was to Peter, Lianne soon learned. As he gave her every ounce of memory he possessed, including those he had long thought forgotten or lost, he showed her how it was when he was young. Peter had been one of the most handsome Peter’s in generations, or so Kain had once told him. As a man in his prime he was strong, burley, and fearless, not to mention skilled in magicks of many sorts. Some were even unfamiliar to her! Kain had adored this servant of his with a great passion in those days. And so Peter became skilled in pleasing and receiving pleasure from his beloved master.
Even now Kain was still warmly fond of Peter, despite his age having robbed him of his looks, stamina and all care for lovemaking. As his memories of the last few minutes he had spent in the presence of his master flew across her mind Lianne wept unashamedly at his bravery and the tragedy of a human who loved a vampire Lord. She did not know that hers was a different road, for Kian had not told her of his firstborn’s bond and how it had changed her destiny for always.
Kain had been talking amiably with Raziel regarding a few new rules about cross territory human snatching. The subject having been brought up by the events with Lord Rahab and Rachelle’s little adventure. Kain had been pleased by his pacifistic son’s reaction. "Perhaps that Woman shall bring about many good changes in your brother as Lianne has in you." Raziel had flushed slightly and said that he hoped so. Peter had brought, and served goblets of blood and a flagon of warm cider, both Lords having grown fond of it at the festival that seemed so very long ago now.
Then a thunderous boom had echoed throughout the chamber. When Peter managed to get up, before the aged one stood the Serafan hunter she had seen in the Merry Traveler! The bastard had smiled wickedly as he spoke a word of power that froze the two vampires like statues. Suddenly it occurred to her that this rather haggard hunter was in reality the Serafan Lord!
He gestured, and Peter who had risen and rushed to attack the threat to his master with his belt dagger, up against the wall. She shared his pain as ribs and other bones cracked. But still Peter arose to continue the fight. Such courage and un-measurable devotion! He was knocked bloody and nearly unconscious when the wicked Serafin loomed over his prone form. The evil being had kicked brave Peter hard, and laughed at the grunt of pain.
"Foolish of you old man. Even as a young one you would not have had the powers to face me in battle. Foolish and yet very brave, you wish to try and save your master, who, though much stronger then you at your best, is helpless in my power! Tell those who find your dying carcass that these are just the first. All vampires and all of their pet humans who stand in my way will fall by my hand, in much pain and agony as befits such dark abominations and freaks of nature! Tell those who will follow after and let them know fear!" He said then he made a gesture and disappeared from the room along with the two frozen Lords.
