Disclaimer: I do not own the Dragon Age series all recognizable characters are property of Bioware and EA. I make no profit from this. If I did Tamlen and Cullen would be romanceable in the first game. |
A/N: Hehe, long time no see guys. Guess who's back? I was hit by the epipha-tree and managed to drag this story back from deep underground to finish it. I hope you enjoy it.
Thank you for everything. xMelaniex
Chapter 11- Shrieks in the darkness.
Alistair's POV
"Run." Elyssa smiled sweetly. Zevran raced over to Morrigan and I, throwing Morrigan over his shoulders. Oghren moved to assist me but I brushed him off. I heard Elyssa's voice say something behind us before a loud roar echoed throughout the caves. Sprinting towards the exit, Oghren and Zevran meters ahead of me. I glanced back to see the dragon starting to fall and Elyssa was forced backwards into the wall by the beam of blue light that burst forth from its chest. I stopped, standing with bated breath. Internally begging for her to get back up and going against all of my rational thought.
I watched her as rocks continued to fall around the dragon. "What are you doing you fool? We have to get out of here!" Morrigan called out in pain. I turned back to my friends, my mind now back in control of my actions. I took two steps before I was jerked to a halt. I looked down to see a great tentacle wrapped around my middle. "NO! ALISTAIR DON'T LEAVE ME!" The others watched on in horror as I was pulled back into the cave, I saw Oghren run back towards the cave entrance only to see a boulder fall in front of his path blocking any chance of my escape. My body was turned around to face the agonized broodmother.
"Stay with me. Stay with us. Help my children grow and prosper, we can create a new world for us to stay in peace. No more war, no more pain. Just like we wanted. Remember?" Her voice had taken a deeper tone, her once dark green eyes now taking on a crimson hue. I did remember. I remember everything we've ever spoken about. Every night we'd spent together, lying in front of the campfire or in our shared tent. Wrapped in each others arms. Our shared dreams. Our planned future. But that couldn't happen. As much as I wished it to. I was about to piss of a very hormonal broodmother.
"We can't my love, as much as I want to. You're not you. Tamlen made sure of that." I reached into the side of my belt strap and pulled out one of the throwing daggers that I had kept there. One of her daggers that she had left behind when I lost her. I adjusted my arm and before she realised what was happening I threw it as hard as I could the blade sinking into her stomach. She screeched in pain, her tentacles flailing around the cavern before burrowing themselves back into the earth. The tentacle wrapped around me constricted, tighter than ever before. It lifted me even higher into the air before throwing me at the stone beneath us. My head hit the ground, and I could feel the crack as my skull split. My vision started to blur and the last thing I saw was the sunlight breaking through the stone ceiling as more and more of it fell. Illuminating her form as she swayed and dropped to the ground. My job is done. We can both be at peace now Elyssa, my love. It's over.
Epilogue
Elyssa's POV
A blinding bright beam of golden sunlight shone down on her form through the gaping hole left in the ceiling of the cave as Elyssa opened her eyes, a stark contrast to the surrounding cave. She weakly lifted her arm to shield her eyes from the harsh glare. Slowly bringing herself upright until she was no longer leaning on her side she glanced around the cave, trying to make sense of the destruction. Rocks surrounded her and a dragon lay dead a few steps away from her. She knew she was in some way responsible but her mind was only slowly piecing the memories together.
She clutched her head in pain as flashes of the night before came to her, her now elongated nails digging into her palms. She saw her friends rushing into the cave trying to take her away from Tamlen thus bringing about his wrath and the destruction of the roof above them. She relived the horrors in her mind seeing again Wynne's, Shale's and Sten's deaths. Her anger and jealousy of Morrigan causing Elyssa to impale her against the wall. Then their escape. Or rather attempted escape. "What happened?" She glanced around the now destroyed cavern, taking note of the string of corpses of her friends. They shouldn't have tried to hurt us, they deserved it. A voice echoed through her mind. A voice similar to her own, but deeper. Hungrier.
Her gaze finally fell on a form not two feet away from her. A form wrapped in splintmail armor. "Alistair, he came back." She stroked his head gently with one of her bruised tentacles. A soft smile plastered on his eternally resting face. Let him sleep a little longer, he can help Tamlen and I create a new world.
"Tamlen." She whispered to herself. She'd gone through all the pain and heartbreak of losing him to the Eluvian, only to have him come back into her life for her to kill him herself. He'd protected her for so long from all of the world that might hurt her and she'd stabbed him through the heart. He'd done nothing but protect her and their unborn babes. She gasped in shock. My babies, how could I have forgotten? She thought to herself. She looked down and saw long dried blood between her legs. She cried out in horror clutching to her softened stomach, her tentacles curling around her form. "No, no, no, NO!" tears fell from her eyes in a heavy flow. Her children. Her last gift from Tamlen. "NO!" She let out an agonized cry that could not be described as anything but monstrous. Her screams reverberated throughout the air causing birds to flee in fear above the cave. She cried in agony until her voice grew hoarse and her breath shortened into hiccuping sobs.
A small echoing chirrup broke her from her reverie. She glanced up through blurred vision. In the blackened cave she could see a pair of glowing green eyes. She looked on in fear as out from the shadows came a creature the size of a grown halla. As soon as the creature came into the light she realised it was a light brown coloured young dragon. She tried to back away but found herself unable to move. Where her legs met the ground her skin seemed to meld with the cool stone as if her body were growing into the very earth.
As she looked back up at the dragon she tried yet again to pull away as it had moved closer still. At the same time it opened its maw and let out a loud shriek causing a few small stones to shake and fall from the ceiling. Elyssa covered her ears from the ear-splitting noise. She stared at the dragon in confusion. Dragon's didn't make that noise. It sounded more like a Shriek than a young dragon. The green eyed lizard let out another chirruping sound moving closer until it was a breath away. It lifted one of its clawed front legs to rest upon her thigh. She winced in pain as its talons dug in slightly.
Elyssa watched in surprise as the dragon moved until it was half-lying on her lap, pushing its nose into her stomach and sniffing like a curious puppy. The dragon stared into her eyes for the longest time as though it were trying to tell her something important. "You're my.." She spoke quietly. The dragon's eyes flared a brighter green. A familiar voice echoed through her mind. Ma vhenan. A small whimper passed Elyssa's lips. She recognized the voice instantly. "Tamlen. How?" She drew the dragon into her arms with a cry of joy.
Tears began to flow again from her eyes as she poured all of her love into that one embrace. "You were dead, I killed you. Your body is right there!" She gestured to the great dragon corpse. A deep chuckle reverberated in her mind. His maw nuzzled into her neck. What your grey warden mentor didn't tell you is when an Archdemon is killed its soul seeks out the nearest being bearing the taint. That happened to be you and our precious seed. Besides did you think I would leave you to bear our children alone? We need only sacrifice one for the needs of the many.
She gazed down at him hopefully. "Others survived?" He nodded then let out another screech, turning his neck towards the shadows. A symphony of scratches and small screeches came from the darkness. At once over a hundred small shrieks and dragonlings came into the light, their voices joining Tamlen's in the choir that was now in her mind. Mamae? Is it Mamae? Yes it's Mamae fool! The voices started arguing in her mind. ENOUGH! Tamlen's voice silenced the weaker ones from fighting one another. "You are so much more grown and you can control them so well already." Elyssa asked Tamlen as he made his head comfortable on her stomach. The Archdemon needs to be fully grown to lead the horde. One of the smaller shrieks came closer to her and rested his head on her hip. Mamae will you stay with us forever? Will you help us make a new world? His little voice asked curiously. She moved her hand to stroke the young darkspawn's head. "Of course I will emma lath." Her echoing voice suddenly spoke in her head. All of us together. My king, my children and soon Alistair will rejoin us. One happy family together forever. A mad smile slowly spread across her face.
Cries of joy were let out in unison by all of the spawn in the cave as they all moved to surround their mother and father. Ready to bring about a new world.
Mamae- Mother
Emma lath- my love
Ma vhenan- My heart
The End.
