Dawn headed down a street towards the outskirts of New Reno, walking for nearly an hour or so before the city's crumbling buildings began to clear. Most people stayed out of her way, many of them looking at her like they recognized her from somewhere. The sun slowly rose in the sky. As Dawn walked down a lonely and dusty road, a crumbling home to her right, an almost totally destroyed apartment building to her left, the top half of the building having already crushed a few nearby homes. As she walked past an alley nearby, she heard a muffled scream coming from within. "Shut up bitch, just give me the damn key!" Dawn raised an eyebrow, looking into the darkness of the alley. Another muffled cry came out, sounding more pained. "Stop crying! Where did you put it?!" Dawn narrowed her eyes slightly, gripping her mp5 as she began to sneak into the alleyway. Every thought in her brain was pointing her towards simply walking on and ignoring the cries, but she found herself moving purely by instinct. She walked into the relative darkness of the alleyway, old pre-war garbage dumpsters lining the walls on either side of the narrow passageway. The scent of rotting flesh came from a corpse nearby, sitting in a dumpster, but Dawn ignored it.
Another cry came out, closer, echoing in the alley slightly. "Damn it...Okay, you don't have it on you...But where is it, huh?! Where do you hide your shit?!" A few muffled words came out before a breathless gasp for air. "I swear I don't have it, you think the Bishops would trust me with that sort of thing? I'm just a dancer, I swear to God, I don't have it, why would I?!" "All employees get a key to go in the backdoor!" "I'm just a dancer, dancers aren't considered employees, most of them are junkies anyway, the Bishops don't trust junkies!" Dawn stealthily crept over to a small clearing against the wall to her left side, seeing the image before her to be awful. A man in leather armour held a woman of Asian descent against a wall, a knife to the side of her neck, a makeshift ballgag freshly dropped from her mouth to her throat, the ballgag dripping with a bit of saliva.
Her hair was short and black, a streak of gold dye going down along the left side of her head. Tears streaked down her cheeks. She was wearing a slightly-dirty yet still fancy-looking suit jacket, the jacket being black but appearing a little gray from age and dust, a tie going with it as well, but nothing underneath, the tie going down between her bare breasts. The tie was dark red in colour, a single stripe of white going along it's middle horizontally. She wore a faintly-torn miniskirt, the miniskirt being shiny golden in colour, but sort of faded with time. She wore high heel shoes in rather good condition, Dawn wondering for a moment as to where the girl had gotten them, wondering if she herself could get a pair, as well. Something about the girl was vaguely familiar. The man seemed to realize Dawn was nearby, looking over his shoulder, his eyes widening. He took off like a speeding bullet, racing down the alleyway.
Dawn narrowed her eyes and raised up her gun, aiming for the man's legs. She held the trigger for a few moments, emptying the clip, firing like crazy, missing his legs several times before the man shouted in pain, crimson squirting into the air. He flipped over onto his side, sliding along the concrete ground painfully. His knife clattered against the ground near him. The girl was panting with fear and adrenaline. Dawn began to walk towards the man, ejecting the clip from her mp5, catching it and slipping it into a pocket, knowing she could fill it with more bullets if she found any more. She popped a new clip into it, the clip going into it being the last one she had. The man reached for his knife as Dawn reached him. Dawn sadistically stomped down on his hand, the man crying out in pain as his bones crunched. The man writhed against the ground for a moment before Dawn looked over her shoulder. "Hey, you! If you have questions for this guy, better ask them now!" The woman shook her head, shakily calling out from down the alley. "I don't have anything to say to him!..." Dawn smiled and raised her eyebrows, looking down to the man. She pointed her submachine gun down to his face, the man loudly saying "Don't-!" before Dawn silenced him forever with a single squeeze of the trigger.
She took her foot from his hand, grabbing his knife, the knife being a switchblade. She folded the blade back into the handle, tossing it up in the air for a moment before catching it. "Here, catch!" Dawn called out, whipping the handle down the alleyway towards the girl. She caught the knife, glancing at it for a moment before calling out "Aren't you Ruby-Red, the porn star?" Dawn smiled for a moment in silence before calling out "Yeah, what if I am?" The girl smiled and thankfully said "I appreciate the help, not a lot of people would have stepped in if they heard me!" Dawn waved over her shoulder, the girl quickly leaving the alleyway. Dawn began to check him for items, disappointed after a few moments, not feeling anything on him. She watched his blood continue to slowly leak out onto the concrete, his forehead blown into, revealing brain matter among chunks of muscle and bone. Dawn continued walking, heading out of the alleyway through the other side, walking down another street nearby, seeing her destination just a few streets away. It was the east side manor, home to the Wright crime family. The Wright Estate was a large and spacious building. Dawn could hear the far-off giggling of children as she continued to approach the building. She smiled to herself, wondering how her old friend, the patriarch of the Wright family, Orville Wright, would react to her return.
The children around the house, playing outside, all giggled and ran around with one another. Many of them noticed Dawn as she began to approach the large house, several of them crying out "Daaaawn!" while running towards her. A happy smile grew on Dawn's face, Dawn saying "Hey, guys! Long time no see!" A little girl grabbed Dawn's left leg, hugging it tightly. "Where have you been, Dawn?" She asked. Dawn smiled as nearly ten children all clamoured around her, smiling and laughing. The manor was a large building with a single floor, the front yard being desolate of plantlife except for a few hardy plants and cacti. Several armed guards stood by the front double doors, watching Dawn and the children quietly. They all recognized her and remembered her, but they also knew it wasn't their place to greet her. Within a few more moments, the doors burst open from within, being pushed open violently. A somewhat elderly man with long, stringy, gray hair and a thin body marched outside. A grand smile grew on his face as he walked towards Dawn quickly. The children immediately all fell silent, stepping back from Dawn. "I see you standing there but I don't believe it, how are you, Ruby-Red?"
Dawn smiled as the man approached closer, holding his arms wide. He chuckled as they embraced for a few moments. "It's been too long, Keith. Thought I'd swing by, I was in town. How's Orville?" Keith's smile seemed to weaken for a moment before he said "You've missed a lot of stuff, Dawn...We should go inside and talk about it, you've been off the scene for a while...Speaking of which, why did you leave? I could hardly believe it when my boys told me that you were gone, I could've swore that one of the other families had knocked you off. My dad nearly went ape-shit, he thought the Mordinos did it for revenge after you practically busted up their Jet-stables." Dawn chuckled and said "The Mordinos? They wouldn't have had the balls to even try and touch me, I could've fucked up any of the guys they had! No, I wasn't whacked or ran out of town. I just needed to get away, you know?...A vacation, I guess." Keith nodded and said "Well, come on, step inside, let me fill you in on the things you've missed." Dawn nodded, the two of them walking into the manor, Keith leading her off to an office in the right side of the building.
Kid got dressed and left the studio, walking down the streets he had come from before, heading towards Virgin street, back to the large parking lot where Ronald's caravans rested. He saw them all, Ronald dealing with customers, the rest of them standing watch and making sure nobody got cute with the merchandise. He simply stood and watched them all for a few moments, trying to spot Mandy. He walked to the corner of a nearby building, standing against it as he spotted her. She had a sort of depressed look on her face as she watched several junkies stand in line, obviously waiting to buy a fix of Jet. He wondered about what he'd say. He finally let out a whistle. The only one to notice him was Mandy. She looked over in his direction after a moment of wonderment. She spotted him. He waved her over. She shook her head after a moment, her depressed look only growing stronger. Kid waved her over again, mouthing the word "please". Mandy looked at him for a few more moments before whispering something to the girl beside her, Terra. Mandy slowly began to walk over, holding her shotgun tightly in her hands. Kid raised an eyebrow, wondering why she was bringing her weapon.
His hand strayed to his pistol. When she reached him, she quietly said "What do you want? I have my gun this time, you try and pull out your's and I'll blow you away, I promise!..." She gripped her shotgun with both hands, ready to point it at him and pull the trigger, her stance tense. Kid said "I w-wanted to apologize..." Mandy's face slowly grew a little surprised, her stance growing a little more relaxed. Kid continued. "I just wanted to t-tell you that...The way I acted...It was out of line...I was feeling really m-messed up at the t-time, and I shouldn't have t-taken it out on you...So...I'm sorry..." Mandy fully relaxed, letting her shotgun hang down in one hand. "Oh...I...I wasn't expecting an apology from you..." Kid said nothing, Mandy just standing and looking to the ground. After a few moments, Kid said "Well...I have to get going....Bye..." He was about to turn around and walk away just as Mandy asked "Hey, wait!...Are you going to come back to us?...Ronald said we'd be leaving in two or three days, so...If you're going to come back to us, you still have time to..." Kid thought for a moment before shaking his head. "I don't th-think so...The reason why I was s-so messed up before was b-because I missed someone...But they found me here, so...I think I'll be staying with th-them...."
Mandy looked a little depressed again as she glumly said "Oh..." Kid said "Yeah...So...Before I go, I have a q-question for you." Mandy nodded and looked into his eyes. "Yeah?" She asked softly. "Before...When we were alone...You wanted t-to ask me for something..." Mandy raised her free hand to her face, sort of touching her forehead in embarrassed recollection. "Oh yeah, right..." She smiled slightly. Kid asked "What were you going t-to ask me?" A bit of red entered Mandy's cheeks as she took in a deep breath. She spoke while exhaling, looking off to the side as if interested in something else, generally appearing as if what she was going to say was nothing special, nothing really interesting. "I don't meet a lot of guys my age...I had wanted to know if you wanted to make out..." Kid raised an eyebrow, "Make out?" He repeated. Mandy blushed more and nodded, saying "Yeah, you know...Kiss a lot...Get close...Get physical..." She blushed even more at her own words. "Stuff like that..." She said softly. Kid thought of Dawn. "Mandy, I can't mess around with you like th-that...I already have someone else...I like her a lot..." Mandy nodded gently, losing her blush. "I sort of had a feeling you did...Oh well...Never hurts to try..." They remained silent for a few more moments before Kid waved slightly, turning around and beginning to walk away. Mandy didn't stop him, saying nothing. She walked back to the rest at the caravans. Kid walked back to the studio, walking back into Dawn's room, locking the door and lying on her bed in the dark, closing his eyes and letting out a soft breath He felt safe in the darkness of her personal quarters.
Sitting on a chair in a plush-for-a-post-war office, Keith sat at a desk in front of Dawn, taking in a breath as he explained. "When you left, like I said before, dad got really pissed...He went after the Mordinos big-time and eventually blew them off the map. It was tough, but we had some lucky breaks. You busting up their Jet-stables really helped, too. Dad died around two months later...Mom didn't last long after. A doctor took a look at them both. They both died of heart attacks. Dad probably because of all the stress on him, and mom...Probably just because she missed him too much. None of us really know for sure. That all happened around three months ago. I was made the leader of us all just a day or two later. Chris wanted to be leader, but everyone thought I was better suited for the job. Anyway...Right now, the Bishops are trying to muscle in on some of our territory, so we've got a bit of a skirmish going on with them right now, but it's nothing too serious. The Salvatores still have their laser pistols, but they're the smallest group, and they know it. As long as we don't fuck with them, they don't mess around with us. Drink?" Dawn shook her head gently, raising up a hand politely as he held up a bottle of some sort of alcohol named Roentgen Rum. "No thanks, Keith. Or should I call you mister Wright now?"
Keith poured himself a small shot of Roentgen Rum, the light golden fluid flowing into the shot glass, Keith quickly downing it. He smiled and looked her in the eyes. "Please Dawn, it's just "Keith" to you. My father was mister Wright." Dawn smiled and nodded gently in understanding. Keith sighed gently and sat back in his chair. "Family's gotten a lot bigger since my dad ran it..." Keith smiled and shook his head gently for a moment. "We finally got past that whole "exclusive" thing...You know, we were just an actual family when we started, a big one, yeah, but we were all blood-related. Now we let in outsiders, but they have to prove themselves properly." Dawn raised an eyebrow. "I remember Orville telling me that I had proved myself to the point of impressing him, and I don't know if you remember, but Orville was a tough one to impress." Keith smiled more, nodding. "Yeah, I remember...Dad could be a hard-ass. But he loved us all, that much was clear." Dawn lost her smile, looking a little apologetic as she slowly said "I'm sorry about him, Keith...He was a good man...He'll be missed." Keith took in a deep breath, exhaling slowly. "I've gotten past it, Dawn...But thanks anyway." Dawn nodded. A moment of silence passed between them before Dawn said "I was also wondering if you had any work that needed to be done? I don't know how long I'll be in town for, but I could help out with some stuff while I'm around." Keith nodded slightly, saying "Yeah, there's some things that my boys could use a little assistance on. How're you doing on equipment? You're not wearing any armour..." Dawn smiled and said "I got some back at my place. Ammo on the other hand, I'm a little short. Plus, well...Submachines guns were never my favourite. I prefer assault rifles." Keith nodded and said "Well, we could probably help you out-" "Bishop boys! Hit the deck!!" Someone shouted out urgently from a nearby room. Dawn's eyes widened, Keith reacting the same way, ducking down under his desk, Dawn immediately dropping low.
Bullets rang out like crazy, blasting through windows, shattering them and spraying their glass everywhere. Cries rang out. Some bullets actually went through the walls. A far-off voice shouted out "Frag out!" A pause in the firing happened. Children screamed outside. An explosion ripped through the air, the two front doors of the house blowing off their hinges. Dawn stayed low and rushed for the door to the office, pulling it open and heading out into the main part of the building. A Wright soldier nearby spotted her. "Dawn! They're about to come through the front doors!" Dawn gripped her mp5 in one hand, staying low still and moving for the front doors. A man rushed through the smoke-filled doorway, pointing a combat shotgun at a Wright soldier nearby. Dawn sprayed seven bullets into him, watching as his body fell to the ground in death. "Frag out!" Another voice cried. A small black object rolled in through the doorway, directly in front of Dawn. Thinking fast, Dawn grabbed it, looking out the doorway and whipping it back at the men she saw, there being around seven of them. They all panicked. "Grenade!!" One of them shouted loudly. The blast came out, one of them screaming in pain.
Dawn got up and stood in the doorway, holding the trigger of her mp5, spraying out bullets and instantly killing two of the men that scrambled in a blind panic. They began to fire back, Dawn getting behind cover by the doorway. Wright soldiers fired out of busted windows, shooting at the men. Four were left, one of them having died from the grenade that Dawn had thrown back. A soldier downed one of the assailants, but hadn't killed him. The man fired a pistol into the window, scoring a miraculous headshot on the Wright soldier that had shot him. Dawn spotted an AK-112 assault rifle on a nearby table, directly in front of the doors. It had a brown stock, along with a brown handle with a bit of metal lining the edges. The magazine was large, showing that it was a customized and extended one, obviously holding many more bullets. The barrel was long and made of metal with a black finish. She grabbed it, rushing down a nearby hallway as more bullets whizzed into the building, making sure the setting on her assault rifle was set to "full-auto" for burst firing. She headed down a hallway on the other side of the building, seeing a shattered window at the end of the passageway. She went into a burst of speed and jumped up when she reached it, going through it, hitting the ground in a roll to minimize her impact. She looked to the side, spotting two men with assault rifles firing into the building still, trying to find cover from the incoming Wright bullets.
The one that had been shot but was still alive lay near Dawn, firing a pistol into the building through the front doors. Dawn ran over to him and raised her assault rifle up, pointing the stock of it down into his face. She watched as his face went surprised. She rammed the butt of the gun down into his face, breaking some of his teeth on the first hit, continuing to ram down into him a few more times until his face was nearly nothing but a bloody, pulpy mass. One of the remaining two men spotted her, Dawn raising her assault rifle at the same time as he did, the two of them firing indiscriminately at one another, Dawn running to the side to try and avoid his bullets. She gasped as she was hit in the stomach with a bullet, followed by another near the middle of her chest. She collapsed, still firing her assault rifle at the man as she hit the ground. She finally filled him with enough lead to cause him to drop to the ground, ending him. The last remaining man tried to run off, heading down a street. Men from a nearby building came rushing, one of them raising up a hunting rifle, firing a single shot, hitting the man square in the middle of his back, killing him instantly, the man's body doing a roll as it hit the ground.
Dawn grit her teeth in pain, blood appearing in her mouth, pain rocking her mind. She shoved a shaking hand into her pocket, yanking out a stimpack. She noticed that the needle to it was broken, effectively rendering it useless. Keeping her cool but inwardly fighting a rising panic, she reached into her pocket and gently pulled out another stimpack, feeling relieved as she saw it to be in pristine condition. A Wright soldier rushed towards her just as she injected the stimpack's fluid into her left arm. "Aw shit, Dawn's hit! Get some Super Stimpacks down here!" Dawn retrieved her third stimpack, injecting herself with it as well. She could feel the medicine coursing through her, but it didn't seem like it'd be enough. Her wounds kept blasting pain through her, and they weren't healing. "Oh, God! One of the children was shot!!" Feminine screams sounded out as a woman screamed in sorrow. A girl got down by Dawn, Dawn hardly able to see her, Dawn's vision beginning to blur. Her voice sounded far-off. "Dawn, just hold on, I got a Super Stimpack here, you'll be fine!"
She faintly felt something wrap around her right forearm. A soft pricking of pain appeared in her arm. Dawn felt her quickly-degrading condition suddenly freeze. Her body began to shake and tremble as the medicine began to work it's way through her veins. Dawn felt reality slide back into focus, gasping loudly as she shot back up into a sitting position from the ground. Panting softly, she immediately looked to her right arm. A large stimpack was fixated to a leather brace of sorts, the brace tied around her arm, the dial on the stimpack reading "zero", showing it was empty. Her wounds slowly began to close. The Super Stimpack looked just like a regular stimpack, a tough industrial needle filled with a red fluid of sorts, except for the brace to it, which normal stimpacks did not have. Dawn knew that the medicine within it was extremely potent, much stronger than that of a regular stimpack, necessitating the use of the brace, the body tending to convulse as it dealt with the strength of the medicine while it was still flowing into the user. Her heart pounding in her chest, Dawn undid the brace, letting the spent Super Stimpack fall to the ground.
The girl that had helped her assisted her in standing. It was chaos. People cried over those that had died. People, in a rage, beat the bodies of the attackers. A few women screamed in sadness over the body of a slain child, the poor boy having been shot in the chest twice. The other children cried for their lost sibling, as well. He was already dead, no amount of medicine would bring him back. Keith stepped outside, holding a desert eagle, looking around. He spotted Dawn to be okay, looking a little relieved, but when he saw the slain child and the men that had died, his face grew to a mixture of sadness and wrath. He let out a choked sob as he approached the body of the dead child. Dawn looked at the girl that had helped her up. She seemed young, maybe a year younger than Dawn or perhaps the same age. She was around medium height. Her hair was short and brown, going down around her neck, her bangs free and shaking in the light breeze. Her face was calm despite the situation, like she was trying to remain optimistic. Her eyes were free of vice, innocent and pure, something Dawn had never seen in the eyes of anyone that had come in contact with New Reno. She wore a suit of leather armour mark two, the leather being a bit closer to dark orange in colour, also being more protective. Her body was mildly curvy, but not being as voluptuous as Dawn's. A combat shotgun was slung over her shoulder onto her back, Dawn recognizing it as an H&K CAWS. Dawn knew that the shotgun she had was extremely dangerous, as it's burst-fire mode could easily shred through even combat armour at close range. Dawn didn't know her name, but she thanked her nevertheless, standing up and looking around at the mayhem for a few seconds.
Keith waved her over as he began to walk back into the manor, waving the girl by Dawn in, as well. The both of them walked inside. Keith's voice was shaking with rage as he said "The Bishops, those sons of bitches, they're gonna fry for this!" Dawn's face was serious as she said "Want me to hit them at the Shark Club?" Keith was breathing a little quickly as he raised a hand, waving his index finger at her approvingly. "That's a good idea, but there's no way you could do it by yourself Dawn, old man Bishop is smart, he's got tough security lining the place like crazy. Plus, he's sure to beef it up even more after this little stunt. But this can't go unavenged!" He looked at her, into her eyes. "Dawn, I must ask this favour of you...Take a team of my men, take about five, any five you want, I'll get all my best guys together and you can pick from them all. Go to the Shark Club and knock off Bishop, take out his whole family. My family already owes you a great deal from all the things you did to help my father. If you help us with this, we'll be forever in your debt. Will you help us?" Dawn nodded as she smiled a little, saying "I already offered to help Keith, you don't have to ask me. Bishop's guys shot me, they'll all realize they fucked with the wrong bitch. I'll turn that place into a bullet festival." Keith nodded, placing a hand on Dawn's shoulder appreciatively. "Thank you, Dawn. Thank you. I'll have my men all here in no time, just wait, it'll only take a few minutes. Lana here is one of them." Dawn nodded, looking at the girl that had helped her, Keith walking off and trying to round up those he deemed to be his best soldiers as quickly as possible.
