Kattath gave an exasperated sigh as Caellia once again stubbornly refused to take her meal in the dining hall. “I insist you come down to eat.” She didn’t say that Nathavin had told her he would accept nothing less than Caellia coming down to the hall to take her meal.
“I have already told you, I will not dine at the same table as that monster!” Caellia hissed violently. The events of the previous night on the archery range were still fresh in her memory. She had no intentions of being anywhere near him at all.
“Caellia, you don’t have to stay long for the meal and he’s leaving for our homelands later today to do some research.” Kattath attempted to appeal to Caellia’s rational side. “Once he’s gone we can go outside to the target range.”
“No. I will not go near him again.” Caellia shuddered uncontrollably and whispered to herself, “He frightens me.”
Kattath frowned, she had heard the first part of what Caellia had said but not the second part. Apparently last nights events were bothering Caellia. “Caellia, perhaps you should stop fighting him at every turn. You did agree to accept him as your King. However, once Goryn was safe, you have repeatedly tried to go back on your word. He has every right to be angry.” Kattath suggested.
“He forced me to accept him! He was going to kill Goryn! How could I let that happen?” Distraught, Caellia paced the room.
“Caellia,” Kattath spoke sharply, “Goryn knew what he was doing. He’s a trained warrior as well as a King himself. He knew the consequences of fighting Nathavin and took them on even though he must’ve known the odds of his defeating Nathavin were slim.” She took a breath, “You owe it to Goryn at least to keep your end of the bargain. Now, we don’t have any time to spare, you must prepare to dine this morning in the dining hall.” Kattath stressed the word ‘must’ as she thought of Nathavin’s threat if Caellia wasn’t down by a certain time.
“Kattath, you may go tell Nathavin that I will never dine with him at any meal. Nor will I stop battling him ‘at every turn’ as you say. I will continue to fight for my freedom as Goryn will continue to fight to save me.”
“Caellia, please listen to me!” Kattath began, but was cut off by Nathavin as he forcefully entered the room.
“You would go back on your word Princess?” He stalked toward her, his eyebrow raised as she stood her ground and defiantly lifted her chin slightly. “That would not be a very wise thing to do.”
“You know nothing of honor dark one!” Spat Caellia. “Do not dare speak to me of honor when it was you who threatened Goryn’s life if I didn’t accept you!"
Kattath sucked in a deep breath as she watched Nathavin’s face tighten in anger. She dared not intervene now. Caellia had pushed to far once again.
“Kattath, leave us.” Nathavin ordered and smirked slightly as he watched fear flicker across Caellia’s face for a brief second before it was replaced with tenacious ferocity. He didn’t know why he had suddenly wanted her to be at the morning meal with him in the dining hall after last night wanting to stay clear of her. However, he had decided that she would be there and he wasn’t going to relent on it now.
Caellia thought she saw Kattath give her a small look of pity before she stepped out and closed the door. Her gaze slid back to Nathavin as he took a small step back. “So I know nothing of honor do I?” Questioned Nathavin, “Then how about yourself little one? Do you know anything of honor?”
“What are you implying?”
“I am referring your escape attempt the other night, as well as your stubborn refusal to obey even simple commands, such as coming down for breakfast.” He fixed his gaze on her. “It appears to me, little one, that you know as much about honor as you have accused me of.”
Caellia ground her teeth in frustration, there it was again! That hated phrase! Little one! Deciding to ignore his statements regarding her sense of honor she focused on the main reason he was here now. “Why are you so insistent I come down for breakfast?”
He twitched slightly, why did he want her down in the dining hall with him? He decided on the easy answer, “Because I gave you a command and you must obey it.” He then turned to leave the room. He made three steps before Caellia exploded.
“I won’t obey you at all! You spawn of Antharas! Son of Valakas! I will never obey you!” Caellia screamed.
Before Caellia could react Nathavin swung around and pushed her to the corner of the room and pinned her there, his hands on either side of her face.
“Let me go!” Caellia brought her hands up and began tugging on his arms in a desperate attempt to free herself. “I hate you! You tried to kill Goryn!” She balled her hands into fists and began to beat on his arms. Tears blinded her vision as he tightly gripped her wrists in his hands to keep her from hitting him. She gasped at the pain he was inflicting on her slender wrists. He pushed her hands down roughly. The low sound coming from the back of his throat was the only warning she got as he suddenly trapped her head between both of his hands and prevented her from moving.
“You will never raise your voice to me again!” Before he had time to think his actions through, he lowered his head and gave her a bruising kiss. He pushed her head back further into the corner of the wall as he continued to kiss her with bruising force. His right hand slowly moved to the nape of her neck and bunched in her hair and forced her neck to arch upward as he both deepened and softened the kiss as he lost himself in her sweet taste. He began to unconsciously lean into her, trapping her fully against the wall.
Caellia stood in dumbfounded shock as his lips crushed hers. She couldn’t breathe and she couldn’t move as he pushed her into the corner of the walls. She gasped slightly to get her breath back when he only barely broke contact for a split second to look at her. He seized the opportunity and delved into her open mouth as she felt his right hand slide down her cheek and neck and work its way to the back of her neck. Caellia’s mind reeled with the sensations and feelings he was invoking. She shouldn’t feel like this, this was wrong. No one had ever touched her like this, ever. No one had ever come close to making her feel this good, not even Goryn.
Goryn! She stiffened suddenly and began to pound her hands against his back and chest. Finally he rose up and stared at her before silently and quickly exiting the room. She stood still breathing heavily and leaned shakily against the wall and that’s where Kattath found her when she walked in the room a few moments after Nathavin left.
Kattath looked at Caellia and covered a slight snicker with a cough. It was painfully obvious what had transpired here mere moments before. Apparently Nathavin had found a way to subdue Caellia’s sharp tongue after all. “Come on, let’s get you dressed for breakfast.”
Breakfast passed in tense silence for all who attended, including Caellia. She didn’t eat a single thing and barely sipped the water. After a while Kattath excused the both of them and led Caellia to the archery range so that she could practice. They both turned and looked when they heard the sound of the massive gates swinging open and swinging back shut. “He’s left.” Kattath quietly stated.
“May he never return,” Caellia darkly whispered.

Nathavin pushed his strider to run at its top speed. He could not believe he had done that! What had possessed him to do such a thing? The strider growled loudly as its riders emotions were transmitted down the leather reins to the beast. They had left his traveling companions behind. He had taken a mixed force of twenty dark elves and orcs with him to gather a few things from their homeland and to help carry the library scrolls back. They were also there as a guard unit in case any trouble should arise on the way to his home village. After several hours of traveling, they stopped in a small clearing between areas known as the beast garden and devils pass and made camp for the night.

Goryn and his troops awoke early and made the final push into Goddard lands. They reached the castle with no serious problems and began to make silent preparations. They would sleep without the benefit of campfires tonight and begin the siege at dawn the next morning when all of castle inhabitants would be asleep.
As they settled down for the night just out of the castle guards viewing range, Goryn turned and looked at the mighty fortress. Hold on Caellia, I’m coming for you, he thought. He spun around as one of the scouts, a hawk eye, ran up to him with important news. Nathavin was not in the castle! He had left early that morning and was likely already quite far away from the castle. They decided that they would hold off on the initial attack until the afternoon hours to allow him to get further away from the castle to ensure he wouldn’t notice the invasion from a distance.
*****
The following day Nathavin and his small force left early, heading for Rune Harbor. As the day progressed Nathavin began to feel uneasy. Something felt wrong. He pushed the feeling aside and they continued on. As evening came upon them, they made camp just outside of the swamp of screams. They had not covered as much ground due to the striders refusing to co-operate for the majority of the day. They seemed bothered by something and no one had been able to figure out what. For some reason the striders had seemed to want to return to the castle, another bad omen. Nathavin looked in the direction of his castle as the light faded. Tomorrow they would head back, something was terribly wrong.
*****
The light had almost faded when Goryn gave the order to attack. He watched as his massive force unleashed itself upon the castle gates. Wave upon wave of troops he sent at the gates and towers. It wasn’t long before the castle defenders swarmed out of the castles various towers and gates to defend it. He cut down many as a healer tried to stay with him. Twice the healers had perished and twice others had replaced them. As they made their way to the castle doors, they got word that the base camps were being attacked. Goryn gave the order for half the assembled force to turn back and defend their camps.
He watched as a black armored cat raced past him and slew anything in his path. Goryn pulled up short as he stood face to face with a knight of Shillien. The dark knight lifted one corner of his lips up in a foreboding half smile. The sounds of the clashing spells disappeared, so did the other sounds and smells of battle as Goryn focused on his enemy. He noticed the two glowing spheres located just above either shoulder of the elf and smiled his own deadly grin. Now the fun truly began.
