Chapter Twelve: The School
Sora awoke the next morning, yawning widely as he turned over to his side, catching sight of the digital clock on his lover’s bed side table. Even without the clock he could tell it was too early to even think about getting up by the lack of sunlight seeping through the window. With a sigh, the brunet snuggled closer to his still sleeping fiancé. Last night, he had slept so much better than what he had been since all of this had first started, and for that he was grateful.
Not being what you would call a morning person and not having had much sleep the past few nights was the perfect recipe for a groggy Riku to simply ignore everything but the brunet he held in his arms. With a tired yawn, he pulled the said boy closer to him before allowing himself to drift off once again.
A serene smile crossed Sora’s features as he laid his head on the silver haired boy’s chest, closing his eyes to fall into the gentle slumber he so desperately craved. He didn’t even hear his lover’s bedroom door creek open.
The couple would have gladly slept in another hour or two; That is, if Kadaj hadn’t thought it’d be an awesome idea to give the young couple another early morning wake up call.
“Wakey-wakey!”
Suddenly the seventeen year old silveret found himself and his lover lacking a blanket. Cursing softly, the teenager rose making a swipe to reclaim the comforter that his elder brother had taken.
Ocean blue eyes blinked open, “What in the hell?” Sora mumbled sleepily as he sat up, rubbing his eyes.
Kadaj laughed softly as he jumped out of the way, narrowly dodging a punch Riku sent his way, “Dad’s going to talk to the Headmaster at Sora’s school.” He started, stepping closer to the open door incase Riku started throwing things, “He wants you both up, dressed, and ready to go when he leaves in an hour.”
Sora pouted, pushing himself out of the bed. The notion of it being too early to function properly still firmly lodged in his head as he moved about the room, “C’mon baby, we don’t want to keep Seph waiting…” He said softly, gently smacking his lover’s bare leg as he moved towards the dresser.
Riku didn’t even budge. Instead, he grabbed the pillow Sora had just vacated and pulled it over his head to block out the light pouring into his room from the hallway, “Come back to bed, Sora.” He mumbled, reaching out for his lover.
Kadaj merely laughed, “Don’t keep the old man waiting,” He snickered as he started down the hall, “You know how he gets when he’s impatient.”
Sora watched as the elder silver haired man darted down the hall, slowly he shook his head, “Sometimes I think he gets off doing this to us.” He said thoughtfully before turning his attention to his now snoozing lover, “Riku!” He said, walking back to the bed, “Baby, you need to get up!” He said, shaking the sleeping silveret.
"Riku’s not here at the moment; please leave your name, number, and a short message after the snore.” The said silver haired boy tiredly murmured, having only registered bits and pieces of what Kadaj had said. Something about his bad leaving and wanting him up.
"Riku!” Sora said with a pout as he climbed over the lump that was his silver haired lover, “It’s time to get up!” He said as he leaned down to nuzzle the boy’s cheek.
“Don’t wanna.” Riku said, snaking an arm from under the blanket to grasp the front of Sora’s pajama top. With one good, well measured yank, he had the brunet lying next to him again. With out so much as a second thought he curled around the boy’s smaller frame, pressing a kiss to his neck, “Kadaj can go fuck himself for all I care.”
Sora snickered lightly, snuggling closer to Riku for a moment, “I’m sure he already does that with his apparent dry sex life.” He said before nudging his lover, “Come on now, we have to go to my school with your dad.”
“Why do we have to go to your school?” He asked, peeking up at Sora from under the pillow. A puzzled look on the silveret’s face.
“So your dad can pull me out of school.” Sora reminded the other, “Then Yazoo can home school me during the pregnancy and we’ll be able to take that trip to get married.” A light blush marred the brunet’s face.
“Oh.” Riku replied, remembering everything that had occurred the night before, “Right.” He smiled at his lover’s blush as he sat up, ruffling Sora’s hair before cupping his cheek, “You’re too cute!” He said before leaning over to press a kiss to pouting lips.
Sora stuck out his tongue as Riku moved away, “I’m not cute.” He muttered as he got off the bed to get dressed.
“Yes you are.” Riku insisted, a teasing smile on his face as he tossed the covers off of him so he could slid out of bed, “You’re cute, smart, sexy, and all mine!”
The light blush across Sora’s face deepened, “Well, I guess I can be cute then.” He said, giving his lover a breath taking smile, “But, only for you.” He added before digging through the drawers that were dubbed as ‘his’ the day before.
“I wonder….” Riku mused aloud as he ran a hand through his hair while staring at the dresser as if he wasn’t quite sure what it was for. He was still groggy from being rudely woken up and was still processing everything, “If your parents would actually give my dad custody if he went after it.”
Sora frowned lightly as he pulled his pjs off, “Why, getting cold feet?” He asked after a moment, giving his lover a teasing smile, “Honestly, I don’t think they would. And, they’d do it just to be difficult.” Sometimes he wondered if his parents even wanted him to be happy.
Riku blinked, looking up at his brunet, “No, I didn’t mean it like that.” He replied quickly, “It’d just save us a trip to the mainland.” He pointed out.
Sora chuckled softly, “I know, baby, I was just teasing you.” He said, giving his lover a warm reassuring smile, “But, my parents wouldn’t stand me being in the custody of…demons.”
“Technically…” Riku began, a wry grin on his face, “…we’re faeries as my father likes to point out.” He finished as he opened his dresser and reached for a pair of pant, “But, I’d have to admit, it’d be interesting to see their reactions to my dad’s wings…”
Sora laughed lightly at that, “They might start foaming at the mouth.” He replied, slipping the shirt he had picked out over his head, “Then they’d swear that Hell had taken over Earth.”
Frowning, Riku turned to face Sora, pants held forgotten in his hands, “They would probably kidnap you and take you away from here. They’d make sure we never laid eyes on each other…” He was quiet for a moment, “I couldn’t live with never being able to see you, touch you, or kiss you again…”
Sora gave a soft sigh before he walked over to his lover, “But, we won’t let them do that.” He said, wrapping his arms around his silver haired love’s neck, “We’d unleash all seven layers of Hell on them if they tried.”
Pulling Sora against him, Riku laid his cheek against the top of his head, chuckling softly as brown hair tickled his nose, “Hell hath no fury like a Sora scorned. I’d almost pity them.”
“Yeah, something like that.” Sora chuckled, looking up into the aquamarine eyes he had fallen in love with over and over again, offering his troubled lover a warm smile.
Riku leaned down, about to kiss his brown haired lover when his father poked his head into the still opened door, “What aren’t you ready yet?! We need to leave in fifteen minutes and you haven’t even eaten breakfast yet!”
Sora pouted cutely before glancing over his shoulder at the elder silver haired man, “We’ll be right down!” He said with a bright smile as Sephiroth eyed the two before leaving, obviously heading back down stairs.
Riku heaved a sigh, laying his head on his brunet’s shoulder, “We’ve got to get our own place as soon as possible.” He groaned, pressing a chaste kiss to the boy’s neck before pulling away so they could finish dressing, “And, I’m not allowing Kadaj over.”
Sora laughed lightly as he slipped out of his pajama bottoms, “He’d find a way in, you know.” He pointed out with a playful smile.
“Yeah….I know. That’d be just like him.” Riku sighed, pulling his own pajama pants off so he could slip into his regular pants, “Yazoo probably would too…those two are the bane of my existence.”
“That’s why I’m glad I don’t have siblings…yours are enough for me.” Sora snickered, pulling on a pair of jeans.
“You can have mine?” Riku offered hopefully. He’d be glad to be rid of them. Mostly. There were some occasions, like when he and Sora would use the hideout, that his brothers would come in handy. But, otherwise, they were totally jerks.
“Technically…after we get married, they will be mine.” Sora pointed out with a teasing grin.
--- --- ---
“Ready?” Riku asked, looking over to his left as his brown haired lover as his father locked up the car. He wasn’t even sure if he was ready, but they were already there and there wasn’t anything he could do except give Sora a reassuring smile to let the younger teen know that everything would work out…
…some how.
A soft sigh left the brunet’s lips as he stared up at the private school he had been attending for the last four years, “As ready as I’ll ever be.” He answered after a moment as his stomach did flip flops, which he was sure wasn’t a result of the child he carried inside of him.
Nodding in agreement, Riku clasped his lover’s hand, tugging him towards the building which loomed over them with what seemed to be an ominous glare. The silver haired teen could help the feeling of impending doom that flooded his veins as they neared the building.
Sora gave the hand that held his a gentle squeeze, there was no sense in attempting to hide their sinful relationship anymore. Not when his Mother had made it her business to rant to every person she met about it. It was almost certain that everyone on the island knew about the relationship he shared with Riku.
Draping an arm around both boys’ shoulders, Sephiroth guided them towards the school. Well…in Riku’s case, it was more of a push, but his hesitation was to be expected since they lived in such a close-minded town, “You know I won’t let anything happen to the two of you.”
“But…” Riku began, looking up at his father, “What if you lose your job or something because of me?” He asked, knowing it to be a very real possibility. People here did not tolerate change very well and his brothers and himself already had somewhat of a ‘wild child’ reputation even though every last one of them were straight A students who had never really gotten into any serious trouble…well, at least until now on Riku’s part.
“You just let me worry about that.” Sephiroth said with a soft snort as he opened the front door for the boys, “It’s not like we need the money.” He pointed out, “I just have a job because I get bored easily.”
“And, we wouldn’t want that.” Riku said, giving his father a look. He could remember all too well the last time his father had taken a ‘break’ from working.
Sora sighed gently as he looked at the father and son. He could only wish that he had a relationship like that with his parents. That thought sent another wave of sadness through him. It was very likely that he wouldn't speak to his parents again, perhaps never see them. Is wasn't to say that he wouldn't try...but, trying can only take a person so far in life.
Seeing Sora's sadness deepen, Sephiroth affectionately ruffled the young boy's hair. "I know that I can't replace your dad, but I will do my best for you. All right?"
Sora slowly nodded, "Yeah, thanks, Seph...for everything." The brunet said with a smile as the group walked up the large, quite ominous, front steps of Sora's school. Sora had been attending St. Ann's Catholic Academy since he was in the seventh grade, and even before then, he attended a Catholic elementary school and was expected to attend a Catholic college.
"You're welcome," Sephiroth told his son's lover, smiling brightly at him.
"Geez, Sora, your school looks more spooky than ever," Riku commented, looking up at the big stained glass windows just off to either side of the entryway. He was glad he went to a public school despite his mother being Catholic.
Sora glanced over at his lover before nodding slowly. He used to think his school was so beautiful. It was modeled after the large cathedrals in Europe with copy stain glass windows of all the famous ones scattered throughout the world.
If Riku thought the outside of the school seemed forbidding, once they stepped through the doors into the hallways, he definitely felt like the insides would suffocate him.
For being different. Wicked. A sinner.
The silver-haired boy swallowed hard and pressed himself close to his father's side, his hand gripping Sora's tightly. He had to mentally remind himself that it was just a building, it couldn't hurt him. The people inside it could though. Especially the tall, nasty looking ones he assumed to be the school's football players, the ones who glared fiercely at them as they passed by. Riku knew he should have just taken his lover and run.
With every step they got closer and closer to the office, to the Headmaster...to what seemed like an impending doom. After all, his Headmaster went to his church too and was actually quite good friends with his parents.
When they reached the office, the Headmaster's secretary was waiting for them, with an unfriendly scowl. She tilted her head with a sour expression in response to Sephiroth's greeting, as if she's eaten something horribly unpleasant and stiffly pointed to the Headmaster's door. "Mr. Miyake, Mr. Tanaka, Headmaster Nojima is expecting you."
‘To skin us alive no doubt‘, Riku thought bitterly. He felt as if they were being treated like they carried the plague, like they wanted this done and over with and them gone. Fine with him. He wanted to be done with them just as badly. Mean people really did suck.
Sora slowly nodded, giving the woman a small meek smile. She had been so nice to him before this had all started. He kept his eyes trained on the floor as Sephiroth walked him and Riku over to his Headmaster’s door.
--- --- ---
The headmaster seemed even more unpleasant than his secretary and the only reason that Riku actually entered the office was because his dad pulled him in by his hair. He would have preferred to sit in the waiting.. no, make that at home actually. So it was with a quiet and grumpy sigh that Riku reluctantly took a seat between his lover and his father.
"So," Headmaster Nojima began softly, giving them all a sickly sweet, utterly fake grin as they took their seats. "I see that you're here about removing Mr. Miyake from this school to be home schooled. Normally this sort of thing would have to be put before the Board of Directors, but I'm quite positive that I speak for everyone when I say that this would be the best course of action…considering the...situation."
Sora remained quiet, squeezing his lover’s hand in a most nervous fashion as the Headmaster continued speaking.
"I've had the documents drawn up already for you to look over," the Headmaster said, pointedly ignoring Riku as he laid his other hand over their already joined ones in a comforting gesture. Frankly he felt that the boy should be locked up for his sinful behavior, tainting such a good student so terribly... but sadly he wasn't the law and even they couldn't do such a thing.
"Everything should be in order. All's there is really left to do is to look them over and sign them."
"Wow, you're quite efficient," Sephiroth whistled, taking the papers to look over. He had called the school very late the previous day and already they were prepared to discharge Sora into his care. Very efficient indeed.
Sora fought the urge to roll his eyes, they were only efficient because they wanted to get rid of something that would disgrace the otherwise spotless school. Oh yes, very efficient.
"Please do not do that sinful behavior here," the Headmaster said, unable to bear it any longer. He looked horrified, scandalized and like he was about to be sick.
Angered by the man’s ignorance, Riku opened his mouth to say it wasn't sinful, but he was cut off by his father's hand suddenly clamping over his mouth. His father's other hand reached out to set the signed paperwork down in front of the Headmaster.
"Thank you for your time," Sephiroth said, standing. He knew the other wanted them gone as soon as possible. But not before he gave the man a small piece of his mind. "While my son may be, shall we say 'mischievous', he is not a bad person. He loves Sora with all his heart, a love so true and special that I doubt you will ever experience in all your self-righteous days."
Sora merely flinched, but didn't let go of Riku's hand. He needed the moral support right now. By now, you'd think he would have gotten used to being called sinful, but every time the word was mentioned and it pertained to him, it tore another wound in his heart. How can loving someone be sinful?
"Good-day," Sephiroth nodded with a pleasant smile. Inside though, he wanted to tear the bastard a new asshole. Hiding behind his religion and condemning things he did not understand as sinful, how simpleminded and stupid. He was glad Sora would no longer be attending such a pitiful institution such as this school. The boy deserved so much more.
"C'mon," Riku said, pulling Sora towards the door, relieved for it to be over. He wanted to go home so badly where he could curl up with his lover and not have to worry about such people giving them disgusted or hateful looks.
Sora nodded, "At least that's over." He said softly with a small, though fake, smile.
