Chapter 12
Taylin had noticed the absent Elf, and at first, she thought he had finally just backed off. That is until she saw the cold satisfied smirk on Sen’s face as he leaned near the doorway to the lower decks. His overly pleased satisfaction trickling down the bond. Taylin sent him her own wave of annoyance and decided to ignore him the rest of the day. Thankfully, they would be docking in just a few hours, because in her heart of hearts, she was pleased as well. That he would go so far for her sent a shiver down her spine. Part of her mourned the loss of life of her kin, but mostly she was filled with love at being so thoroughly wanted and protected. As a rogue, she was no stranger to death and murder after all. However, Sen didn’t need to know how she truly felt just then, so she tamped down her feelings. ‘Let him believe I’m pissed,’ she thought, as she turned away from the troll.
It was too late, however. As soon as Sen’krii had felt her ire towards him, he had sunk down the bond to ascertain just what she was so upset about. A chuckle came to his lips when he realized she was secretly proud and pleased at what he had done. And even though it was just her emotions, and she was desperately trying to hide them from him, he could read her like a book now that there were no secrets between them. His little elf had a bit of a wicked streak. ‘The Loa, she was absolutely perfect for him. An absolute match,’ he thought, grinning smugly. They were almost at Ratchet where he’d be able to quell her fleeting remorse. The Elf had been no great loss of life. He had been trying to get into the pants of just about every single female on the ship. Sen had kept his eye on the Elf as soon as Taylin had mentioned him. It had been almost comically easy to sneak up on him while he pouted at yet another rejection. The unsuspecting Elf hadn’t noticed a thing as Sen approached from the nearby shadows and slit his throat, letting gravity pull the lifeless body over the rails and into the sea below. Now that he thought about it, it really had been too easy. Sure, Sen was an extremely skilled hunter and tracker. One of the best his race had to offer, in fact. And he was no stranger to stalking his prey from the shadows, but this time it felt like the shadows had moved with him. ‘Maybe Kree was right,’ he thought. Maybe he really was gaining some of Taylin’s mastery over shadows. ‘Let her act all upset and mad,’ he thought. He couldn’t wait to share this news with his overly dramatic little elf.
The rest of the trip Taylin completely ignored Sen, though she occasionally took quick sideways glances at him. For the life of her she couldn’t figure out what had him so pleased. His smirk hadn’t left his face since he’d come topside with both Bezwen and Tanga. With Ratchet now in sight, he had stayed above deck to prepare to disembark. They had planned earlier in the trip to meet just outside of town along the mountains to the northwest of Ratchet. When the ship finally docked, she watched him mount up and take off down the docks without so much as a backwards glance in her direction. Grumbling, Taylin gathered her now significantly lighter pack and headed his direction.
Sen had found an old, abandoned hut in the shade of the mountain not too far out of Ratchet. Removing his bags and saddle from Bezwen, he gave the raptor a playful slap to his hindquarters, letting him stretch his legs and hunt while he set up camp and waited for Taylin to catch up. Stretching and giving her master a loud mew, Tanga took off to follow the raptor. Her need to stretch and satisfy her hunger just as obvious as Bezwen’s. Sen had already got a campfire going and was just laying out he and Taylin’s bedrolls in the small hut, deciding this would be the perfect place to camp for the night and they could start their journey fresh in the morning, when Taylin finally came within sight.
She had followed the bond like Sen’krii had shown her and found him easily. ‘That really is a handy ability,’ she thought when Sen’s camp came into view. She wanted nothing more then to run into her mate’s arms having been separated for so long, but she wasn’t done playing the part of angry mate just yet. So, she simply set her bags down and settled herself near the fire without so much as a word to Sen. Rolling his eyes, Sen was getting tired of this little act of hers and he wanted to feel and taste his mate again. But she was incredibly stubborn. “Ahm not gonna apologize fo’ dat Elf, mate. I told ya dere be no promises if he touched ya. ‘Sides it was ‘ard nuff not bein’ able ta touch ya, den ta see anotha man wit’ ‘is hands on meh mate. Ya ask too much of meh, love,” Sen said, eyeing Taylin. Slumping her shoulders, Sen’s words softened her heart, but she wasn’t quite ready to forgive him. “But did you have to kill him? He may have been a pompous idiot, but he didn’t deserve death,” she snapped perhaps a bit too harshly. Sen just shrugged, “I know ya not dat upset ‘bout da Elf, so what realleh be da mattah mate?”
‘Curse him, he’s right.’ She felt utterly defeated. Sighing, “I guess I’m mostly mad at myself. He’s dead because of me. Looking back, I could have easily gotten away from him, and he’d never have touched me. I think deep down I was curious to see just how far you’d actually go for me. If you really would follow through with your threat.” Getting up, Sen sat behind Taylin and pulled her into his arms. “Silly elf. I’d do anyting fo’ ya mate. Ya mine, an’ whether it be killin’ a hundred fools dat be lookin’ at ya or makin’ love ta ya all night, I’d do anything ta keep ya safe ‘n happeh.” He placed a soft kiss behind her ear. “Thanks, mate. The depth of your love still surprises me.” He chuckled and gave her a squeeze, “Dat ya be mine still saprises meh.” Just then Bezwen and Tanga returned to camp. Both their bellies full and still licking their jaws clean. “I gonna take Bez and head back ta Ratchet an’ restock our supplies. I’ll leave Tanga ta keep ya company an’ ta protect ya. Be back as quick as I can. Be safe mate.” He placed a long heartfelt kiss to her lips before standing. As soon as he got Bez saddled, he mounted up and looked down at Taylin. “If da Horde shows up, hide ‘n run. Ya know I’ll always find ya,” he placed his hand over his heart. With one last long look, Sen gave Bez’s flanks a hard kick and took off towards Ratchet.
Back in Darnassus, Cadren stood at the mailbox, Taylin’s letter gripped tightly in his hand. He couldn’t believe it. She was alive and heading here by way of Ratchet. When news of her actual death had reached him, he had been heartbroken. He had mourned alongside both her parents. Even Erion had shed a tear at her loss. So, with letter in hand, he had immediately gone to the stables to fetch his mount. He had to see her as soon as possible. His heart not willing to truly believe until he saw her. He would meet up with her in Ratchet and bring her home. They no longer had that damn Leidan to worry about, after all. Reaching the stables, he called to his ebony griffin, Kal. Kal meant star in Darnassian, for when the moonlight hit his feathers, they glistened and shone like stars in the night sky against his inky hide. Quickly, he mounted and took off for Ratchet, telling no one where he was going or that Taylin was alive.
Two full days and a night of flying straight on, Cadren made it to Ratchet not long after the boat had arrived. After asking around, he learned that there had been a female Night Elf matching Taylin’s description that had disembarked from the ship. He learned that she had headed out of town on foot, not far behind a troll. That same troll who was now coming down the path from the Barrens, according to the source he was currently talking to. As his only lead, Cadren decided to follow the troll hoping he hadn’t hurt his Taylin. He watched as the troll bought up supplies and quickly headed back up the hill to the Barrens. Stopping, the troll seemed to sense he was being watched and looked around sharply. Cadren had quickly stepped into the shadows to avoid detection and decided to let the troll get further ahead. He figured he could easily spot him from the sky later. Once the troll was out of sight, Cadren quickly took to the air to track him down. He cursed himself, for when he crested the ridge, the troll was nowhere in sight.
Sen’krii had quickly gathered the needed supplies. He wanted to get back to Taylin as soon as possible. But something at one of the shops had caught his eye. It was something he hadn’t had in a very long time and would hopefully relax his distraught mate. Grinning to himself, he bought two canteens full. Packing up Bez, Sen headed out of Ratchet. About halfway up the hill, Sen stopped. The hairs on the back of his neck rose and it felt as though someone was watching him. Even Bezwen seemed uneasy. Looking around, Sen didn’t see anything or anyone, so he thought he was simply being paranoid in his need to get back to his alone mate. However, he picked up his pace, pushing Bez to his limits.
Arriving back at camp, that uneasy feeling had finally abated. Taylin was dozing against the doorway to the hut with Tanga curled up protectively around her. Unsaddling Bez, Sen’krii made his way to his sleeping mate and gently nudged her awake. She yawned and smiled up at him. It seemed her mood had lifted with her nap. “Hungreh, love?” Sen asked as he settled by the fire and rummaged through his heavy pack. “Starving,” Taylin said as she took a seat next to him. Pulling out a couple of Heaven peaches, some soft bread, and a few slices of Dalaran sharp cheddar, he handed her her share along with a canteen of Kungaloosh. “Be careful wit’ dat mon. It be strongeh den ya tink,” he warned as she uncapped the canteen. Sniffing it, Taylin thought it smelled fruity and absolutely wonderful. Her throat parched from the Barren’s heat, she tossed back a large swallow. “I tried ta warn ya,” Sen chuckled as he took a sip from his own canteen.
They ate in silence as the sun disappeared over the horizon. Taylin let out a groan as she held her head. The Kungaloosh was kicking in and it packed a wallop. “Like I said, it be strongah den ya tink,” Sen grinned at his obviously drunk mate. He leaned over and had started to kiss his way along her neck, fully intending to take advantage of her inebriated state. He missed the feel of her soft body under his and wanted to see just how loud he could make her scream his name now that there was no one around for miles to hear. Just as his hands were starting to wander over her delicate curves, Taylin vanished from beneath his hands. Growling, he looked around. “Not funneh mate. Where ya go?” A groan from the roof above him caught his attention. “Come down from dere,” he growled at her. If he concentrated, he could just barely make out her shadow cloaked form as she laid back against the thatched roof, legs dangling off the edge and her arm thrown over her eyes. “No. No Taylin for you until the pounding in my head goes away and that poison you fed me stops roiling in my stomach,” she pouted. Grumbling, Sen relaxed by the fire, frustrated with his mate, but knowing he’d just have to wait until she sobered up before he could have his way with her.
Dismounting, Cadren searched for any sign of which way the troll had gone. He was just about to give up and head back to Ratchet when a fresh raptor print in the dust caught his eye. It was large so it had to have come from a mount. Grinning triumphantly, Cadren jumped atop his mount but stayed grounded to follow the troll’s trail. The light was dwindling fast, so he spurred Kal on. An hour or so later, he spotted a campfire in the distance. Reining his mount to a stop, he hopped off the griffin and slipping into the shadows, he stealthily approached. He saw the troll sitting by the fire, his raptor mount was dozing not to far away. A large black panther lounging in the doorway to the hut caught his attention. The cat was going to be a problem. He hadn’t seen him with a pet earlier, but he may not have called for it yet. He felt that familiar itch that told him Taylin was near, though he saw no signs of her. But that feeling was never wrong. Since they were children, he had always been able to tell when she was close, even if she was cloaked in shadows. He made up his mind, this troll knew something about where Taylin was, and he would make him talk.
Sen blamed the Kungaloosh for his current predicament. His pet was currently dazed and there was a dagger pressed to his throat. He hadn’t sensed the rogue at all. Cursing the drink, he spoke softly, the cold steel knicking his skin. “Wha’cha wan’?” Cadren was slightly surprised the troll had spoken Common but kept his dagger firmly in place. “Where’s Taylin?” Cadren asked in a hiss.
Momentarily stunned to hear his mate’s name from the unknown rogue, Sen wracked his alcohol addled brain for a response. “I know she’s near, now where is she?” the rogue asked again. “Wha’ she ta ya?” Sen asked in a whisper. “That’s none of your concern, troll, now for the last time where is she?” A groan from the roof line caught both their attention. With a sigh, Sen’krii carefully pointed to the roof’s edge. He hoped the rogue would be distracted enough that Sen could gain the upper hand. However, the rogue didn’t budge, but only called out to Taylin, his eyes never leaving Sen. “Taylin, are you alright?”
Taylin groaned again. “No,” she replied. Her alcohol fuzzed brain registered that she had heard Cadren’s voice but hadn’t realized that he was here and so was her troll mate. Sen rolled his eyes, “Ya not helpin’, mon. Tell da nice rogue dat you be alrigh’.” Sen lightly called up to her. He was getting uncomfortable with the dagger still at his throat. “But I’m not. You poisoned me you damn troll,” Taylin groaned at her mate in agitation, her head pounding. “Dammit, mate. I didn’ poison ya. Ya jus’ can’ hold ya liquor. Now get dat pretty leetle ass down ‘ere so dis rogue can see dat ya be fine.” Sen was losing his patience with both his mate and the rogue. Movement caught the corner of Sen’s eye. Tanga had come to, and the damn rogue hadn’t seemed to notice yet.
At the frustration in her mate’s voice, and the anger trickling down the bond, Taylin slowly sat up. “Wait, what rogue?” Just as she registered Cadren with a dagger to her mate’s throat, Tanga had lunged from her crouch and tackled Cadren to the ground. His grip on his dagger loosened and Sen swiftly kicked it away. Tanga had her jaws wrapped tightly around Cadren’s throat and Sen was glaring down at him, his eyes blood red with rage. The intent to kill clear on his face. In a panicked scream, Taylin yelled, “Stop! Don’t hurt him!” All three froze at Taylin’s outcry. “Tanga let him go,” she told the cat as she jumped down from the roof. Looking from her master to his mate, Tanga released the rogue’s neck, but sat firmly atop him, holding him down.
“Tay, he knows we tagedda. I can’ let ‘im live,” Sen hissed softly. He glanced at her from the corner of his eye, but kept his attention firmly on the rogue, who he could now see was a Night Elf. “It’s Cadren,” came Taylin’s soft reply. Sen’s eyes widened. “Tanga, let ‘im up.” Obediently, Tanga hopped off Cadren and placed herself between Sen’krii and Taylin, her eyes staying on the rogue in case he threatened her master or mistress.
Sitting up, Cadren rubbed his throat, Tanga’s fangs having bruised his pale skin. He looked up at Taylin, eyes wide and mouth hanging open. Momentarily forgetting about the troll and cat, Cadren shot to his feet and raced to Taylin. He never made it to her. Sen had drawn his bow and fired an arrow into the ground in front of Cadren faster then anyone could blink. Cadren froze, looking between the troll and Taylin. Rounding on Sen, Taylin placed her hands on her hips, “Sen! I told you it’s Cadren. He’s not going to hurt me.” “He can talk jus’ fine right dere. Ahm still pissed as hell at ‘im ‘n da instinct ta protect ya be ridin’ meh ‘ard. So dun push meh, mate. Not right now,” Sen growled through clenched teeth. Friend or not, anyone who touched his mate at the moment would die on the spot. Taylin could feel his anger and need to protect steadily thumping down the bond. The fact that he was holding onto his control for her was astonishing. Taylin placed her hand on his arm, “Calm down, mate. I’ll stay right here, and he won’t touch me, but please calm down. He’s no threat.” Taylin’s touch and soothing words allowed Sen to take a deep breath. Her scent filled his nose, and he wrapped an arm protectively around her waist. He slowly slung his bow across his back, but he still never took his eyes off Cadren. “Did you say mate?” Cadren asked, shocked and completely confused. Both Sen and Taylin sighed in unison.
Taylin sat to the left and Cadren to the right, the fire blazing away between them. Sen’krii, however, stood in the middle leaning against the door frame, his eyes still locked on Cadren. He had told Tanga to sit next to Taylin and Bezwen stood behind and over her, his claws just above her shoulders. She was thoroughly protected which eased some of Sen’s tension. With his animals on guard duty, it left Sen freedom to move if need be. He may know who Cadren was, and while his mate trusted him, that didn’t mean he did. Especially with his need to protect still forefront in Sen’s mind.
She may not be completely happy with their current arrangement but had agreed to help calm her mate. She could still feel his unease holding steady down the bond. Resting her hand on Tanga’s head, she began, “First off, yes Sen’krii is my mate. And before you even ask, yes, I do love him. This here is Tanga, his pet, and the scaly dope above me is Bezwen.” The raptor leaned his head down and nuzzled against Taylin’s, chittering. Giggling, she swatted his muzzle away. “As you can see, they mean me no harm. It’s a long story, but the gist of it is that Sen saved my life. I’ve been living with him and his sister for the past five months and I only recently got my memory back. When my ship went down, I washed up on the shore of Stranglethorn and Sen found me. He and his sister cared for me when I realized I couldn’t remember anything about who I was.” Sen growled low in his throat. He didn’t like how much information she was revealing. He didn’t want to put his siter in possible danger.
“Urgh, enough mate,” Taylin huffed at Sen. “You can trust him. He won’t put us or your sister in danger. Will you Cad?” “I may not trust him yet, but you both have my word. I won’t tell anyone what you’ve said, and I won’t put any of you in danger.” Cadren had spoken mostly to Taylin, but his eyes held Sen’s stare. Sen’krii finally nodded and Taylin saw the tension leave his shoulders. ‘Finally,’ she thought. They were getting somewhere.
With a click of his tongue, Sen switched places with Tanga. Settling down next to his mate, he rested his hand on her thigh, finally letting himself relax, if just a bit. Smiling, Taylin threaded her fingers with his and squeezed his hand. “Thanks, mate,” Taylin said softly as she flooded the bond with her love. With a final large sigh, Sen released the last of his anger and uneasiness. Bringing their clasped hands up, he placed a soft kiss to her knuckles. His voice low for Taylin’s ears only, “I told ya. Anyting fo’ ya mate.”
Watching from across the fire, Cadren stared at the odd couple. It was clear they loved each other very much. “You really love her, don’t you?” Cad asked towards Sen. Eyeing him, Sen nodded slowly, “Wit’ mah vereh soul,” Sen’s voice was deep and Cadren heard the truth ringing in his words. “And you’ll always protect her, no matter what?” Cadren’s eyes held Sens as he answered, “Wit’ mah life.” Nodding, Cadren slowly got to his feet. “Then,” he cautiously walked to Sen’s side and held out his hand, “I trust you. If you truly love her as you say. Then I trust you. Friends?”
Sen had stiffened when Cadren had stood, his eyes following his every movement. As he approached, Sen tensed his muscles, ready to defend him or Taylin if the need arises. Taylin felt her mate’s tension and apprehension but stayed still and quiet. She trusted both men with her life and knew neither would put her in harm’s way. So, she let the scene play out.
When Cadren had held out his hand to him, Sen was shocked. He may have been his mate’s friend, but he was Alliance while he himself was Horde. He never thought this Night Elf would extend his hand to him in trust let alone friendship. Slowly, Sen stood up. Sen saw fear flash across Cadren’s face, but he smiled softly and clasped Cadren’s wrist, “Friends.” Sen’s voice held a touch of uncertainty, but it was warm. He would give his trust to this rogue, at least for now.
The tension in the air finally dissipated. Taylin stood and wrapped her arm around Sen’s waist. With a raise of her eyebrows, she gave Sen a questioning look. Understanding his mate’s wish, he nodded his head almost imperceptibly. A dazzling smile lit up Taylin’s face. Instantly she stepped forward and wrapped Cadren in a back breaking hug. Surprised, Cadren glanced at Sen before wrapping his arms around Taylin, returning the tight embrace. Sen closed his eyes as his instincts hissed at him, but Taylin’s love and gratitude shimmered like a ray of warmth in his chest. His mate was safe and happy, so his instincts relented. But even he could only take so much and a slight growl, closer to a whimper, slipped his lips. Taylin knew she had pushed her mate far enough. Stepping back, Taylin tucked herself against her mate’s side, his arm draping across her shoulders possessively. “Thanks again, mate,” she whispered to him. He nodded and slipped his tusks over her shoulder as he kissed behind her ear, whispering, “Anyting.” His word echoing his earlier promise.
With a heart stopping smirk, Taylin tugged at him to sit. He lowered himself back down by the fire, but he pulled Taylin into his lap, surrounding her with his large frame. Taylin relaxed back against him as he slid his tusks over her shoulder and rested his chin next to her cheek. His eyes closed as he rested his elbows on his thighs and draped his forearms over her lap. His hands founds hers and he intertwined their fingers. Sensing he was as at ease as he would ever be with Cadren around, she looked over to her friend. Cadren had resumed his seat across from her on the other side of the fire. “So, what are you doing here anyways? And why in Elune’s name did you attack my mate?” Taylin asked curiously. Just how had he known she and Sen were connected.
“When I got your letter, I just couldn’t believe you were really alive. I flew straight here, not being able to wait, and hoping to catch you. I got to Ratchet just after you and he had left. Someone remembered seeing you leave, a troll not too far ahead of you. As luck would have it, I caught sight of Sen when he returned to Ratchet. As my only lead, I followed him. When I got close to his camp, I sensed you. You know how I can always tell when you’re near,” Cadren explained.
Sen opened his eyes, “You were da one dat I felt watchin’ meh in Ratchet. I knew I felt sometin’.” His voice reverberated against Taylin’s back. She was happy he was finally at ease and even joining the conversation. “So, the great hunter led a possible enemy straight to his mate. Some protector you are.” Her tone was slightly harsh, but Sen saw the tease for what it was. Arching his back, he stretched his spine, “’Ey. I didn’ see notin’. ‘Sides, ya bettah be tankin’ meh fo’ comin’ back wit’ da Kungaloosh. If ya hadn’ been drunk off ya ass, dat friend a ya’s woulda found us in a completeleh diff’rent position as I ‘ad mah way wit’ ya, mate.” His teasing had made Taylin’s cheeks warm with her blush. “Cocky damn troll. I was still mad at you, so wouldn’t have happened,” she pouted as she crossed her arms defiantly. Sen chuckled, “Dat so? Hm? Den why were ya in mah lap befo’ I left fo’ Ratchet?” Taylin flushed, “Because… Because,” she stuttered but couldn’t for the life of her come up with a good response. “Dat’s wha’ I t’ought,” he snickered as he licked the tip of her ear. “Ooh... You’re getting off topic. You still lead a potential threat right to me,” she snapped out indignantly. “I’ll always protect ya. Ya may be one ‘elluva rogue, but I be ‘n even bettah huntah,” pride filled his words. “Says the one that just had a dagger to his throat,” she teased him. “An’ jus’ who ended up on ‘is back wit’ Tanga’s fangs in ‘is neck? Like I keep tellin’ ya, I always be protectin’ ya,” Sen gave her ear a nip for good measure. “I get it. I get it. Big male troll protect little female mate,” she mocked, sticking her tongue out at him.
Roaring laughter startled the bickering couple as they looked across the fire to Cadren. Cadren had been listening to the couple and couldn’t help when his giggles at the arguing pair became full blown laughter. He had fallen to his side, his fist pounding the dirt as he fought to breathe. Gripping his sides, Cad finally caught his breath as he wiped the tears from his eyes. “You two act like you’ve been married for years.” Sen’krii laughed and Taylin crossed her arms and stuck her tongue out at Cadren. Getting serious, Taylin looked over her shoulder at her mate, “Sen?” she asked with eyebrows raised. Always knowing what she wanted, Sen nodded, “But not everyting,” he winked at her. He trusted his mate and he was putting his faith in her trust of Cadren.
Shifting her tone to convey the seriousness of the topic, Taylin explained about being Sen’s true mate. However, per Sen’s request, she left out the possibility of gaining each other’s powers and how they could always find one another. Those were both dangerous and useful secrets that they kept to themselves.
Thoroughly dumb founded, Cadren just starred at the two, “No wonder you two seem so in sync, like you were reading each other’s minds. That really is an amazing gift. Also explains why I never could get you to fall in love with me. Your heart already belonged to him.” Cad had ducked his head when he felt his cheeks warm. Sen sent him a harsh warning growl. “Easy there big guy. I gave up on that a long, long time ago. Besides, as odd a couple as you may be, there’s no doubt in my mind you two were made for each other.” He gave them both a toothy smile.
Sen gave him a slight glare but accepted his words. “Thank Elune, because if you two started to compete or fight over me like I was some kind of prize, I’d leave both your asses,” Taylin snorted at the two. “Good ting ya alreadeh mine den cause no way ya getting’ rid o’ meh dat easileh. An’ even if ya tried ta leave, I can always bring ya ta your knees, mate.” Sen pulled the collar of his chest piece down slightly, revealing his mark to her and hovered his fingertips above it. Heat seared Taylin’s cheeks as she blushed scarlet, “You wouldn’t!” she hissed. “Don push meh mate. I backed down fo’ ya all night, but not on dis mate. I draw da line dere. Even doe I know ya be teasin’, I dun evah wanna hear ya say sometin’ ‘bout leavin’ meh again.” Nodding quickly, “I’m sorry, Sen. You know I’d never leave you. I’m yours and your mine,” she submitted completely and leaned her head back on his shoulder, baring her throat. With a low growl, Sen ran the tip of his tongue from the base of her throat to her ear, “Dat’s mah girl.” He placed a quick a kiss to her cheek.
Clearing his throat, Cadren rolled to his feet. “I think that’s my que to leave.” He held up his hand to halt Taylin’s objection. “It’s getting late anyways. I’ll get a room at the inn in Ratchet and meet you two here tomorrow morning. There’s still things we need to discuss. And I’ve imposed on you two enough for tonight.” With a whistle, Cad summoned his griffin who had stayed hidden but close. Swinging his leg over his mount, he said goodnight to them both and flew off in the direction of Ratchet.
With Cadren’s form disappearing in the distance, Sen released a long sigh, finally letting his tightly coiled muscles loosen. He may have appeared relaxed for Taylin’s sake but having another male so close and looking so fondly at her, had his instincts protesting and his hackles raised. Sen flopped back on the ground; his head pillowed on his folded arms. “Ya gonna be da death o’ meh.” He ignored his shifting mate while he gazed up into the night sky. Clearing his mind, he attempted to recenter himself after the stress of the trip and the sudden intrusion by Cadren. He had been too lax. Apparently, he was slipping, for even drunk he’d never have let a threat get that close before. His mate was certainly a distraction but having her here should have put him on higher alert for her safety.
Twisting at the waist, Taylin looked down at her mate, her hand bracing herself on his hip. She could feel his inner turmoil and his anger at himself. Making a solid guess as to what he was upset about, Taylin climbed over him, straddling his hips. She gazed down at him, trust and reassurance as clear in her eyes as it was through the bond. Sen tilted his head up and cocked an eyebrow. “I know you’ll always protect me. I have complete trust and faith in you, so stop being so hard on yourself. In the end, it was you who got the better of him. Well, you and Tanga,” she teased slightly.
Deciding to ignore her delicious position atop him, “Not helpin’, mate. I should nevah ‘ave allowed ‘im ta get so close ta ya. If dat ‘ad been a real enemy, we could both be dead. Tank da Loa, he be ya friend.” Letting his head fall back on his arms, Sen let his mind wander. ‘It was only luck that kept us safe,’ he thought. He’d never fully let his guard down again; his mate was too precious to risk.
Taylin danced her fingertips along the cool bone of his tusks. When he didn’t look at her, she gently tugged one. This at least got him to open his eyes, but he still wasn’t looking at her. Letting out a puff of breath, Taylin crossed her arms and glared down at her stubborn mate. “Sen, you can’t keep your guard up all the time,” before he could protest, she placed her fingers over his lips. “I want your full attention when you make love to me, or are you going to stop sleeping with me? Even at Kree’s, we’re not completely safe. Another Horde or even Alliance could show up there. As long as we’re together there will be risks. To be with you, any risk is worth it. But I want to live, mate, not just survive.”
Sen partially sat up, bracing his weight on his elbows, and really looked at Taylin. Scrutinizing not only her, but everything he could sense through the bond. His heart was heavy with her love and need of him. “You’re right mate. Dat why I be tinkin’ mebbe ya should go home wit’ dat rogue a ya’s.” Before he could say anything more, a resounding crack echoed through the night around them.
Tears were stinging Taylin’s eyes, “How could you!? You promised you’d never leave me or send me home. I thought I was your life mate.” The tears were falling steadily down her cheeks now. Her breath was labored as her chest started to constrict. It felt as though her heart was being crushed.
“I really mus’ be slippin’. Dat’s da third time ya caught meh off guard ‘n hit meh,” he said, rubbing the bright red handprint on his cheek. “Now stop cryin’ n’ calm down. If ya had let meh finish, I was gonna say dat da t’ought crossed mah mind, but dat I’d nevah be able ta do it. I wouldn’ survive, let alone live if I didn’ ‘ave ya by mah side, Tay. An’ ya, of all people, should know beddah den ta jump ta conclusions. A direct line ta mah ‘eart an’ ya still be blind ta how much I love an’ need ya, mate.” Sen’s words had started as teasing but grew softer and filled with pain as he finished. Her once again jumping to the worst of him had hurt much worse than the slap itself. When would she learn that he’d not only keep his word, but that he belonged at her side just as she belonged at his. Tucking a stray piece of hair behind her ear, he caught her eyes, “Am I realleh so bad dat ya always gotta be tinkin’ da worst a meh?”
Taylin nearly choked on both the pain she could clearly seen on Sen’s face and what was spilling into her chest from him. Her heart simultaneously froze and clenched. She had no idea how to fix this. Again, she had jumped to the worst conclusion of him. Gently, she placed her hand over his at his cheek. “Sen, I have no idea what to say, but I’m sorry. So, so sorry. Please forgive me mate.” Her eyes were full of sincerity as she frantically searched Sen’s eyes. Tears still glistened in her eyes, threatening to fall, but for a completely different reason this time. Hurting him hurt her too. He was her other half.
Her own pain and remorse swept through Sen’s chest. Sitting fully upright, Sen moved the hand at his cheek, gripping hers. He brought her hand to his lips and placed a soft kiss to her palm. With his other hand, he gently wiped the tears from her cheeks with the back of his knuckles. “Tay,” he slid his fist under her chin, “it be alrigh’ mate. Jus’ ‘ave some more faith en meh. Ya know I love ya.” Sen leaned in, sliding his tusks around her jaw and pressed his lips to hers in a gentle and warm kiss. His lips firm as he conveyed his emotions through the kiss and their shared link.
Wrapping her arms tightly about his neck, Taylin pulled them closer, her body flush to his. With a slight growl, Sen deepened the kiss. The previous gentleness being replaced with hunger and desperation. The heat was building between the two. The stress from the boat ride, their separation, Cadren’s appearance, her guilt, and his pain, all were being swept away by every press of his lips upon hers and by the shift of her hips against him. Both their hands started to wander. His finding the laces at the side of her chest piece and making quick work of the ties. She had one hand buried in his rich mohawk, and her left was plucking at the strings at the front of his pants. Sen chuckled against her lips. Their ministrations reaching a fever pitch in their need to feel one another. Grabbing her hands, Sen pulled them away from him as he slid off her chest piece, letting it fall to the ground. Instantly his hands found her breasts and molded themselves around the soft orbs. Her body arched sharply into his touch when he swept his calloused thumbs across her pebbled nipples.
Taylin threw her head back as a breathy moan crossed her lips. Goddess how she had missed the feel of her mate. Fluidly, Taylin rolled to her feet and stepped over Sen’s legs. She headed for the door of the shack. Sen’s eyes followed her form, momentarily confused as to why she was no longer beneath his hands. But when she started to strip, his eyes began to bleed red as he watched her, completely enthralled.
Keeping her back to Sen, Taylin watched him through hooded eyes over her shoulder. She bent low to untie her boots, giving him a beautiful view of her curvaceous rear. Kicking off her boots and without any hesitation, she immediately began to push both her pants and underwear down her long legs, tortuously slow. Just as she was standing up, Sen’s long arms slid around her waist and leaned over her, keeping her partially doubled over. Taylin released a small gasp as she felt Sen’s naked flesh along her backside. Apparently, he’d been busy while her back was turned.
Becoming impatient, Sen’krii had quickly shed his clothing and armor. His need to feel skin against skin all encompassing. Along with the need to both comfort and be comforted by his mate. Moving to her silently, Sen pressed the length of his body along her back, towering over her smaller form as he leaned over her. He felt her shudder and her breath hitch as his naked body thoroughly surrounded her. His right hand slid down and squeezed her ass cheek hard enough to bruise. Taylin gave a small squeak followed by a deep moan as his other hand palmed her breast, his thumb and forefinger tweaking her sensitive nipple. Once both nipples were hard pebbles, he slid his hand upward, his fingers ghosting over the mark at her neck. Taylin felt her knees buckle as heat pooled between her legs, the apex of her thighs becoming damp with desire.
Effortlessly, Sen picked her up around her middle. He turned so they were facing the doorway and set her down on her hands and knees across their bedrolls. Kneeling behind her, Sen kneed her legs apart and pulled her hips to his. Taylin gave a soft whimper when she felt his thick member rest along the curve of her backside. Taylin’s arousal was thick in the air and Sen breathed deep, filling his lungs with her scent. He moved one hand from her hip around to her front and dipped his fingers between her damp folds. She was already dripping and ready for him. With an appreciative growl, Sen possessively grabbed her hips. He dugs his fingers into the soft flesh just above her hip bones as he rocked his hips back, angling himself to her warm entrance. With a deep growl, he harshly thrusted forward, burying himself to the hilt within her tight depths.
A muffled scream tore from Taylin’s lips as she learned forwards. Resting her forehead on her folded arms, her elbows supporting her weight, as she tilted her hips back, drawing him deeper. Her hair spilled over her shoulders creating an emerald curtain around her. Moan after breathless moan escaped her as Sen took her harshly. Sen’s hips pounded into her, his force rough yet delicious. Taylin was in heaven. Her back arched sharply as he hit that perfect spot deep within her. She felt her abdominal muscles began to clench and burn. She was nearing that precipice.
Sen’s hips were a blur as he took his mate. He could feel her pleasure coursing through him, and he doubled his efforts. He knew Taylin was going to have fresh bruises, but he couldn’t help himself. The need to claim and dominant her was too great. Besides, her moans of pleasure were ringing in his ears, and he had yet to hear her scream his name. Moving his hand, he followed her spine up along her back, reaching his destination, he wrapped her hair around his fist. Pulling back harshly, he firmly yanked back. Taylin moaned Sen’s name in a deep growl as she rose to her hands, locking her elbows. Her neck arched almost painfully as Sen continued to pull her up by her hair. “Sen!” she yelled as the pain increased. ‘Not loud enough,’ he thought with a wicked grin. Tightening his hold, he pulled harder, forcing Taylin to push off her hands and raise up on her knees. Sen released her hip and slid his hand up the front of her body, he closed his hand tightly around her breast and squeezed. He growled low as her body molded to his perfectly. He helped support her balance as he continued to pound into her ruthlessly.
Pleasure was drowning out the pain. Taylin’s body couldn’t take much more. Her legs were beginning to tremble, and searing heat was coursing through her. Suddenly, Sen wrenched back painfully on her hair. She slammed her head back against his collar bone and turned her head as he twisted his hand within her long tresses. A scream tore from her in the form of Sen’s name, echoing into the night as his teeth embedded deep into her shoulder. That cord finally snapped as she came hard around his pulsing member.
Keeping his jaws locked tightly on her shoulder, Sen felt her muscles clench. Her scream and the feel of her orgasm pushed him over the edge. Releasing her shoulder, he roared as his essence filled her and their combined essences trickled down her thighs. Untangling his hand, he wrapped his arms tightly around her body as he brought them down to their beds. He laid them on their sides, her trembling form tucked protectively into the curve of his frame. Her cheek was pillowed on his arm and his other hand rested at the curve of her hip. Their breathing was ragged, and the scent of their lovemaking was thick in his nostrils. Breathing deep, he took in their mixed scents. His beast purred in contented delight. Trailing his tongue along her shoulder, Sen lapped up the warm blood seeping from his bite. The bite was deep and ragged, and a pang of guilt lanced through him. “Ya alrigh’, mate?” he whispered hoarsely.
Struggling to catch her breath and calm her shaking body, Taylin answered weakly, “A little sore, but absolutely satisfied. You know I love it when you get aggressive. Don’t ever hold back, mate. I love and want all of you, always.” Everything ached, but she meant what she said. She truly loved it when he lost control and took her. His passion never failed to excite her, and she knew he would never truly hurt her. She would always trust him whole heartedly and continue to give herself over to him completely. Love and concern filled her chest with warmth. Resting her hand atop his at her hip, she smiled. He completed her and she couldn’t be happier. Bruises and aches be damned. She was content.
Relief filled his heart at her words, and he snuggled her tighter. Burying his nose into her thick hair, he breathed deep, her scent calming him and chasing away the last of his worries. Feeling her shift, he loosened his grip as she turned to face him. Nuzzling under his chin, Taylin placed light butterfly kisses to the hollow of his throat. “Keep dat up ‘n you’ll get meh started again, mate,” he teased. She couldn’t help the smile that slid across her face. “You’re insatiable.” “I could be sayin’ da same ting ‘bout ya.” His chuckle reverberated against her lips. Pushing against his chest, Taylin got him to roll to his back. She propped herself up on her elbow so she could look down at her grinning mate. “After that heart stopping display, you can’t possibly tell me you already want more.” He laughed as he wrapped his arm along her back, “Don’ tempt meh. Ya know I can nevah get enuff o’ dat pretty leetle ass a ya’s.”
Taylin stuck her tongue out at him earning her another chuckle. Idly, she let her fingertips dance across his taut chest, following the creases around his muscles. Her curiosity got the better of her as she fingered the feathered skull that always hung about his neck. “I’ve been wondering what this is. You never really take it off.” Now that she thought about it, she’d only seen him without it once. The night they made love in his bed, he had removed it and hung it on a small hook near the head of the bed. Even when they bathed, he had worn it. The other times they had made love he had thrown it over his shoulder so it would be out of the way, but he still didn’t remove it.
Folding his arm under his head, his other still wrapped tightly around Taylin, Sen closed his eyes. “It be called a gris-gris. It’s a voodoo good luck charm. Mah ma was a shaman witch doctor in our tribe. She gave it ta meh for luck and protection da day I left ta join da Horde ‘n fight. I ‘ad jus’ turned fifteen an’ couldn’t wait to leave ‘ome ‘n set out on meh own. Turn it ovah.” Doing as he asked, Taylin flipped the small skull over. Nestled tightly inside was a tiny oil skin pouch. “Dun know wha’ all be in dere ta make da mojo work, but dere be a lock of mah ma ‘n pa’s hair inside. Mah pa was killed bout a year ‘for I left. He was killed on a mission fo’ da Horde in Silithus when da Ahn’Qiraji gates were opened. Nevah realleh knew ‘im well cause he was always gone on some mission or adventure, but he was ma pa, ‘n he made sure ma, Kree, and I were well takin’ care o’. Ma still be back at our village, doe neither Kree nor I ‘ave been back in many years.” Memories flitted behind his eyelids. It had probably been about ten years since he had seen his mother, but he never had any desire to go home. He did miss her, but he had embraced his nomadic lifestyle until he had come to the aid of his sister. Even then, he never felt the pull of his family home. But now, glancing down at the woman in his arms, he understood the desire of a permanent home. A place to protect what he loved most and one day raise a family in. His Elf was quickly taming his wild nature and not only could he not stop it, he didn’t want to. The idea of finally settling down somewhere was growing steadily within his heart and mind with every moment he spent with his mate. He would never be able to fully give up his adventurous lifestyle, but a home with his mate brought a warmth to his heart and soul.
Carefully, Taylin turned the skull back over and set it back upon his chest. Her heart broke a bit at his pain of losing his father so young. She had been incredibly close with her parents, especially her father, and couldn’t wait to see them again. He had always been there to encourage her, even though he knew nothing of her chosen class. He’d even supported her when she had adamantly refused to join the Sentinels as most of her friends had. She had no desire for war or the strict rules of Darnassus’s prestigious military. She was happy as a rogue, even if at times the work was unsavory. Looking up at Sen’s face, a thought crossed her mind, “I can’t believe you joined the war when you were only fifteen. Just how old are you?” She lowered her gaze as a blush spread over her cheeks. Not once had she thought about his age or the gap that was probably between them. Her race lived much longer then most the other races. It was just a fact of life.
Looking up at her, he caught her eyes and couldn’t help but grin at her question. “I be thirty-three in ‘bout five months. I been wonderin’ bout your age but been afraid ta ask. Cause if ya say sometin’ like six hundred, I ‘ave no idea wha’ ta tink bout dat, especially when ya be lookin’ like ya twenty.” The thought of her possibly being so much older didn’t really bother him but wrapping his head around how much more she must have seen or done during that time, seemed impossible. She rolled her eyes at him. “I’m not that old. In around eight months I’ll be three hundred and six, but Night Elves only celebrate the bigger life hurdles like one or two hundred. I’m probably the equivalent of someone in their late twenties from other races. Night Elves’ aging slows down considerably between one hundred and fifty and two hundred when we hit maturity. What you’d probably consider around sixteen. So, though I’m technically much older than you, comparatively speaking, I’m actually just a bit younger.” She gave him a playful wink.
A chuckle spilled from his lips, “Dat does make meh feel a lil bettah. Doe, I hope Kree be right dat wit’ our bond mah lifespan will match yours. I dun like tinkin’ ‘bout meh growin’ old an’ ya stayin’ so young. Doe, I guess I’ll always be havin’ da prettiest mate around.” Taylin giggled, “You growing old doesn’t bother me, it’s the thought of losing you that petrifies me. We’ve only been together for a short while, but the thought of being without you breaks my heart. I don’t want a life without you in it.” Taylin couldn’t help as her words became more melancholy. She truly hoped with all her being that Kree was right. ‘Please Elune, let Kreeva be right. Let me keep Sen by my side, always,’ she silently pleaded. Tucking her closer, “Hush, mate. It gonna be alright’. No mattah wha’ ‘appens, I’ll be by your side til mah last breath. I told ya, you be stuck wit’ dis ol’ troll.”
With a quick kiss to Taylin’s forehead, Sen fluidly rolled to his feet and headed for the doorway. “Where you going?” Taylin asked while admiring his toned backside. “Natah be callin’ an’ I left mah armor outside,” he answered with a cheeky grin as he disappeared outside. After he had relieved himself in some nearby brush, he kicked some dirt over the smoldering fire. He didn’t want to risk someone spotting the campfire in the night and coming to investigate. Many people traveled by night in the Barren’s to avoid the heat of the day’s sun. Gathering up his armor, Sen commanded Bezwen to take the first watch and for Tanga to take the next. He trusted them to keep an eye out for any danger that could be headed their way. He’d get up before dawn to relieve the cat. Heading back inside, he saw that Taylin had completely spread out his bedroll and was using hers as a blanket. She was laying on her side with her back towards the back wall and was propped on her elbow with her cheek resting on her palm. Her eyes hungrily traveled up and down his body as he made his way to her. ‘And she calls me insatiable,’ he thought with a grin as he set his clothes, bow, and pack against the wall near the door. Slipping under the blanket, he pulled her close into the crook of his arm and she rested her head on his shoulder. He nuzzled her crown with his chin, “Sleep mate. Be an earleh day tomorrow.” “But I’m not tired,” she pouted as a large yawn broke free. Chuckling, “Uh-huh, an’ I be da Warchief. Sleep.” Taylin thumped his chest but relented, snuggling tightly against Sen. They each wore a soft smile as they quickly drifted off.
