**Installment 12**
Caellia and Kattath were sitting in the archery range when the first sounds of an attack reached them. The cries from the dark elven watchmen were the only warnings they had of the impending attack. After that came the sounds of many spells being unleashed together on the walls and gates was heard, as were the battle cries from outside the gates.
“Goryn!” Caellia breathed in an excited half whisper. She shook with excitement. She was going to get out of here! He had finally come for her! All thoughts of the previous morning were forgotten as she began to make her way through the many orcs and dark elves that were frantically dashing to and from various points of the castle. She never realized that she still had the bow in her hand as she valiantly tried to reach Goryn on the outside.
Kattath shouted to Caellia, “Stay here! You must stay with me!” Caellia did not acknowledge her. “Caellia!” Kattath shouted again. Kattath pursed her lips in frustration, she had befriended the silver ranger, but her allegiance was to Nathavin alone. Part of her duties in that allegiance was to guard what was his, and he had claimed Caellia as his. She tried one more time to gain her attention, “Caellia stop!” She watched as this time Caellia turned to face her. The look in Caellia’s eyes said it all, for this moment, the two were enemies.
Caellia turned and stared at Kattath for a brief moment before she slowly knocked an arrow on the bowstring and pulled it back. “I’m truly sorry.” Caellia whispered as she released the string and watched the arrow sail across the distance that separated the two.
Kattath stumbled backward as the arrow lodged itself in her left side. Raising her silver skulled staff she threw a rapidly spinning vortex of air at Caellia’s retreating back. She watched Caellia stumble before turning around and raising the bow high in the air and drawing the string back while summoning her own magic around the arrow. The bow crackled with a blue streaked orange aura before she let the string go. She didn’t watch to see if Kattath was still able to cast or not. She took off toward the nearest gate, dodging all who got in her path.
Kattath swore under her breath, she could not allow Caellia to escape. She sent another blast of wind gusting toward Caellia as she called for help. Caellia was too fast, she’d never catch her before she reached the gate. It was not likely that she’d make it through, but Kattath was not going to take that chance. She watched as Einao left his position to chase Caellia, her eyes stayed focused on them as she ran to catch up.
“Caellia!” Einao shouted above the clamor of combat. “Stop now!” He raced to catch up to her. He watched as she nimbly dodged an orc as it raised the alarm of her escape attempt. He motioned to the orc hoping the tyrant would understand what he intended on doing. The orc nodded his massive head and stepped to one side out of sight and waited. Einao then ran a parallel path next to Caellia and pulled ahead of and in front of her, his song of wind giving him a slight advantage in speed.
Caellia pulled up short, skidding slightly as she faced Einao. “Move traitor!” She ground out.
“No, you will turn around and go back to you rooms now!” Einao raised his shield in readiness to deflect her arrow.
Eyes narrowed, Caellia knocked an arrow and raised the bow, “I will not repeat myself.”
Einao watched carefully before purposefully goading, “You never were able to hit me Caellia, what makes you think you can now.”
Caellia released the arrow. As she did so, she wished briefly for her magic stones to increase the arrows lethality. She fired repeatedly at him as he dodged and deflected her arrows. He closed the distance rapidly and began to swing his sword at her. She managed to dodge or use the bow itself to deflect the blows and still managed to keep firing. It was only when he suddenly pulled back that she realized her mistake in focusing on him. She never had time to move as she was suddenly lifted off the ground by massive green arms.
The orc squeezed her tightly around her chest forcing her breath out and thundered in his deep voice, “Drop the bow or I will crush you.” He squeezed tighter to emphasize his point.
Caellia screamed in excruciating pain as the orcs crossed arms bruised her ribcage and quickly dropped the bow. Once she released the bow, it was quickly taken away. The orc dropped her roughly on the ground.
By this time Kattath had caught up with a number of other elves. “We are going inside the inner castle now Caellia. These elves are your guards and will remain with you at all times.” She watched Caellia closely as she was surrounded by the five heavily armed guards and as they began the long trek into the deepest recesses of the castle.

Outside the castle walls things were going well. They had protected their camps and sent the outflow of defenders back into the castle. Night had fallen hours ago and still the battle raged on. Goryn had lost count of how many he’d slain. He’d also lost count of how many of his had been slain. He took a moment to look around during the brief lull in the battle.
So many had died already, the battlefield surrounding the castle was littered with bodies. He cleaned his bloodied weapon on the armor of a nearby orc. He looked the blade over and grimaced slightly, it wasn’t much cleaner than it had been before he’d wiped it off. As a matter of fact, if he looked closely it looked even dirtier now than before. Shaking his head, he glanced back at the fortress. Somewhere in that castle Caellia was waiting for him. He would not let her down. He strode back to the farthest base camp away from the castle the camp that housed the dwarves. He wasn’t going to allow his men to continue to die in a needlessly slow battle. He was going to take the gates down and storm the castle. With Nathavin gone this was going far easier than expected. It would take the dwarves all night to create their wonders, but it would be worth it.

A beautiful dawn broke on the horizon in bold colors of purple, red, yellow, and streaked throughout with gold. It went unnoticed and uncared for as Nathavin ruthlessly woke the troops up and commanded them to break camp. He looked in the direction of his castle, and watched as smoke marred the early morning sky. Muttering a curse, he leaped onto the back of his strider and tore back down the road.
