The orange jumpsuit looked horrible with her pink hair.
Poison heard the iron bars slam behind her as she was released into general population. The cafeteria was full, row after row of orange-clad women, all staring up at the new arrival.
Many of them Poison recognized. A lot of them were here because of her.
And they were all staring. Some looked angry, cracking their knuckles. Some looked hungry, licking their lips. They knew all about her, and each had their own reason to look forward to welcoming Poison to her new home.
Poison dropped the armful of towels and bed sheets she carried to the floor, and put her hands on her hips. She stared all of them down. Around the perimeter of the room, the guards smirked and nudged each other.
"Alright," she finally drawled out. "Who's first?"
Roxy listened to the gurgle of the water closet filling up as she sat on the cold porcelain toilet. She closed her eyes and tried to slow her racing heart. Then she raised the white stick to her face.
There was the test strip, bright purple. The other side was blank. She began to heave a grateful sigh, but it died on her lips, her remaining breath escaping in a whimper.
Another faint purple stripe appeared. It became more and more intense, until it was just as vivid as the other one. Three tests in a row, all showing the same result. It was going to be an interesting nine months.
The sun shone on the fountain water as Chun-li and Cammy strolled through the park, arm in arm. It had been a couple months since the ordeal, and both women were just about healed.
Poison was in jail, no bail, awaiting trial. Chun-li had tried to contact Roxy to tell her the news, but the orphanage said Roxy had given her two weeks and vanished without a trace.
But today, in the sun, all that was the farthest thing from Chun-li's mind.
"So you really mean to go through with it?" she asked. Cammy shielded her eyes against the glare from the water and looked across the park, where some kids were playing with a football.
"Yeah, they’ve cleared me of charges," she said. "Passed my psych evaluation, thanks to you. Someone with my specialized skill set is too valuable to waste, they said. There's some special ops unit called Delta Red, pays good, sounds interesting."
"Well I guess our situation was too good to last," Chun-li said, blinking back tears. "I'm just so proud of you, all grown up."
"Hey now," Cammy said, smiling, giving Chun-li a peck on the cheek. "This isn't goodbye. I promise to come back to you."
"You'd better," Chun-li laughed through her tears.
"Here, let me prove it," Cammy said. She reached into her purse and took out a little black box. Opening it, the sun's rays caught in the small diamond, throwing a pattern of colorful lights onto Chun-li's face.
"Where did you get that?" Chun-li whispered.
"Chun-li," Cammy said. "You are my mother, my lover, my best friend in the world. I love you more than anything and can't imagine my life without you. Will you marry me?"
Chun-li put her hand to her mouth and laughed. Sheepishly, she reached in her own purse and took out another box, with another ring.
"Are you kidding?" Cammy asked. Chun-li shook her head, giggling through her hand. Cammy smiled, too.
Both rings fit perfectly.
