Chapter 13
The smell of fresh meat sizzling on the fire caused Taylin to slowly stir from her deep sleep. With a stretch to her stiff muscles, she opened her eyes, seeking her mate. Looking out the doorway, she saw Sen slowly turning a large slab of meat over the fire, its juices dripping into the flames below. Her stomach let out a large growl and she heard Sen chuckle. With a yawn, Taylin quickly redressed. “That smells absolutely incredible. I can’t believe you’ve been up long enough to have already hunted us down breakfast and cooked,” she said as she made her way to the fire and sat beside Sen.
“Nah mon, Tanga brought da gazelle as ‘n apologeh fo’ lettin’ dat rogue get da drop on ‘er,” Sen replied with a smile towards the napping cat. Tanga had woken Sen a few hours before dawn for his turn at keeping watch. As soon as Sen had dressed, she had disappeared into the night, returning a short while later dragging a small gazelle that she placed at Sen’krii’s feet with an apologetic mew. She knew she had messed up by letting the rogue get so close. It had put not only her master in danger, but his mate as well. While her master skinned and cleaned the gazelle, Tanga curled up along the outside wall of the hut. She dozed lightly, but kept her senses tuned to their surroundings. She wouldn’t let her master down again. Once Sen had the choicest cuts of meat set up on the fire and a few others wrapped in leaves and stowed away in his pack, he let Bezwen have the rest of the carcass. He knew Tanga would stubbornly refuse to partake in her gift.
“Sleep well, mate?” Sen asked with a soft smile. Taylin nodded, “Mmm. With as worn out as you keep me, I’ve never slept so soundly.” She gave him a wink and Sen couldn’t help but chuckle and flash her a cocky grin. Taylin arched her back and began to stretch her arms out above her head. However, about halfway up, she gave a small hiss and winced. Letting her arms fall back to her sides, she rested one hand over the fresh bite at her shoulder. Unlike her mate mark, this bite hurt. It was very sore and tender and moving it too much sent a small shock of pain racing through her shoulder and arm.
Concern and worry immediately filled Sen’s eyes. “I be sorreh, mate. Mebbe I was too rough wit’ ya,” he said as he rummaged through the pack at his side. Pulling out his roll of bandages, he used a small dagger to cut about a five-inch strip from the end. Leaning over Taylin, he carefully pulled the collar of her chest piece away from his bite wound. It had already scabbed over, however, the tears his teeth had made were jagged and angry. If left untreated, it could become infected. Tenderly, Sen laid the bandage over the wound and, as gently as he could, he pressed down, letting the healing salve and magic adhere to her skin.
Taylin sucked in a deep breath as warm pain throbbed through her shoulder. As the healing magics began to take effect, Taylin began to talk to keep her mind off the annoying itch. “Thanks, mate. And I told you last night, it’s alright. I like it when you don’t hold back. So, stop apologizing. Though next time you could maybe not make me wonder if cannibalism is still a thing,” she smirked. Sen’s eyes shifted from apologetic to something a bit darker yet playful and he smirked back. “I’ll try ta keep dat in mind, doe I do be likin’ da taste a ya, all o’ ya.” His grin slid to something decidedly cockier as heat bloomed across Taylin’s cheeks. “Perverted damn troll,” she muttered under her breath.
Before Sen could say something in response, Tanga leapt to her feet and stood between Sen and Taylin. Tanga’s hackles were raised, and she released a small warning growl, her emerald eyes scanning through the low light of early morning in the direction of Ratchet. Sen immediately got to his feet and readied his bow as he assumed a defensive position in front of Taylin. At the same time, Taylin had slid into the shadows, her fingertips resting on the hilts of her new daggers. A loud screech slightly above them caused all three to glance upward. An ebony griffon came into view and two of the three visibly relaxed. Tanga kept her muscles coiled, she was still more then a bit miffed at that rogue.
With a puff of dust, Cadren landed just outside of the little campsite. Dismounting, Caden gave Kal a pat to the neck and slowly made his way to the campfire. When he saw Sen with bow in hand, he raised his hands up, palm out, to show he meant no harm. “Morning. Sorry if I startled you. It’s just me and my mount, Kal.” Relaxing, Sen slung his bow across his back and replaced his arrow within his quiver. Taylin had already stepped from the shadows and stood next to Sen, a huge smile adorning her lips. Tanga trotted up to Cadren and bowed her head, looking like an overgrown house cat waiting to be pet. With a surprised smile, Cadren reached out to scratch behind her ears. He completely missed the wicked grin that slid across Sen’s face. Just before he made contact with Tanga, she reared back and pressed her paws to Cadren’s chest, easily knocking the startled elf straight onto his ass. Tanga gave a satisfied mew and, quite literally, walked right over him to slink out of range of the fire’s light before circling around to reclaim her spot by the hut.
Sen’krii couldn’t help the howl of laughter that escaped him as he doubled over and slapped his knee. He had suspected Tanga’s intentions as soon as she stepped forward. Taylin was trying hard not to laugh. She’d been in a similar situation with Tanga before and so felt some sympathy for Cadren. Eventually, she couldn’t hold it in any longer and hid her giggle fit behind her hand.
Momentarily dazed and very confused, Cadren glared at the laughing pair from where he had landed in the dirt. “What the hell was that for?” he snapped as he stood up, brushing the dust off his pants. Getting his laugher under control, Sen waved his hand in the air towards Cadren, “Sorreh, mon. Ol’ Tanga jus’ be lettin’ off ‘er frustration. She’s still sore dat ya caught ‘er off guard.” “Don’t worry, she did the same thing to me before I even knew who she was. And trust me, you got off easy. You didn’t have her claws digging into while you were scared out of your mind. And he,” Taylin flicked her hand towards Sen, “was laughing just as hard. Harder even since he actually fell to the ground in his fit.” Taylin crossed her arms and shot Sen a slight glare. “I actually wondered, did she do that, or did you tell her to pounce on me?” Taylin asked with eyebrows raised. Sen just shrugged, “ Eh, can’ ‘membah. Tanga jus’ wanted ta play wit’ da new lil Elfie.” Sen’s face lit with a smirk. “Liar. Then again, you enjoyed it far too much for it to have been your idea,” Taylin huffed.
Settling herself in the shade of the hut, Taylin leaned against the wall. The sun was rising, and the oppressive head of the Barren’s was already starting to build, making the fire much too warm. Waving at Cadren, Taylin patted the ground next to her, “Come. Join us for breakfast. We have plenty.” As Cadren made his way to Taylin’s side, she shot Sen a glare, daring him to deny her. She had felt his annoyance bubble up within her chest. However, she missed her friend, so her mate was just going to have to get used to him at some point.
Sen stifled his objection at Taylin’s glare. As much as his instincts growled at allowing another male so close to his mate, he knew Taylin wasn’t going to listen to his demands. He also still felt bad for the bite wound on her shoulder. So, he’d let her have this. Besides, he also knew how much she had missed her friend and he was currently her only connection to her life before waking up in Stranglethorn. Catching Cadren’s eyes, Sen shot him a quiet glare of his own. His unspoken message clear to the rogue: ‘Don’t touch. She’s mine.’ Satisfied, Sen returned his attention towards the cooking meal, allowing Taylin and Cadren some time to catch up. Sensing her master’s agitation, Tanga padded over and squeezed her way between the two rogues. She curled up along side Taylin and rested her muzzle on Taylin’s knee, effectively creating a barrier between the elves. Sen couldn’t help but inwardly grin and silently promised to give Tanga a few extra treats and affection later. Taylin only sighed and rubbed Tanga behind her ears. She couldn’t fault the cat for being overprotective, Sen was her master after all.
While Sen focused on breakfast, Taylin fully explained where she had been and what she had been doing. Telling Cadren all about her months in Stranglethorn with the troll siblings. She even explained how she ended up falling for Sen. How they became mates and even realizing that they were true mates. Of course, she left out the more intimate and personal details of their relationship. She and Cadren may be incredibly close, but some things are meant to be kept private. The extra details involving her and Sen’s true mate bonds were also, once again, kept secret. She agreed with Sen that those details should always be kept between just the two of them. Keeping secrets from her closest friend didn’t sit well with Taylin, but it could put their lives in danger. And while she trusted Cadren with her life, she wasn’t willing to risk her mate’s.
Cadren couldn’t believe all that Taylin had been through. He was secretly very thankful for all that Sen’krii and his sister and done for his best friend. If not for them, Taylin would truly have been lost to him. And while he still held a bit of jealousy towards Sen, he had resigned himself long ago to being nothing more than her best friend. “I still can’t believe that it was Sen who finally rid the world of that bastard. You two really were fated for one another,” Cadren commented with a toothy grin. “Believe me, I was more than surprised. So many things lined up just too perfectly. Me going to Northrend to escape Leidan, him running his ship aground, Sen being nearby, then actually defeating him, me washing up on his doorstep, even right down to Sen picking that story when he must have hundreds to choose from to tell that night. If he hadn’t, I may never have gotten my memories back. Though even with so many bad things happening, I truly can’t complain. I managed to find the love of my life and I’ve never been happier.” Taylin’s eyes drifted across Sen’s profile. Feeling her eyes upon him, Sen turned and caught her stare. He gave her a warm smile before turning away.
He had been half heartedly listening to the two talk. Not really wanting to eavesdrop, but his sensitive ears and their proximity meant that he couldn’t help but overhear most of their conversation. His heart had skipped a beat at her last declaration. Though he knew exactly how she felt thanks to the bond, to hear her say something that endearing and so openly honest to her best friend had warmth flooding his chest. Turning fully away from his mate, Sen rummaged through his packs and pulled out a couple of bowls and a large canteen of water. Unwrapping a small crusty loaf of bread, he ripped it into three equal shares and placed them in the bowls. Using his dagger, he sliced several small chunks of meat into each bowl. The bread already soaking up the meat’s juices. He carried two to Taylin and Cadren. “Breakfas’ be readeh,” he said, handing them the food. “Thanks, mate.” “Yes, thank you very much,” they both replied. With a nod, Sen reclaimed his seat and began to eat his own breakfast. Smelling the freshly cooked meat, Bezwen awoke from his nap and trotted to Sen’s side. He glanced from Sen, to his bowl, to the rest of the meat still on the spit, and back again. A small whine left his muzzle. “Damn needy raptor. You already got your portion,” Sen scolded in Zandali with a chuckle. Bezwen simply laid down beside him, his eyes still darting between Sen and the food. His whine started to grow louder. “Oh alright. Nothing but an overgrown hatchling, I swear,” Sen huffed as he begrudgingly cut a large hunk of meat off the spit and tossed it to the begging raptor. With a happy wiggle and an appreciative shriek, Bezwen greedily snapped up the meat. Trotting into the nearby brush, he hunkered down to savor his meal.
Long blue ears flicked towards Taylin as they caught her soft giggles. Shaking his head, “Dat be one o’ da fiercest war raptahs I evah seen, but ya’d t’ink he was hatched yestahday wit’ how he acts ‘round food an’ does he t’inks o’ as famleh.” “Oh, let him be. I think he’s adorable,” Taylin said with a smile. “He’s a war raptah. He ain’ supposed ta be adorable,” Sen retorted. “You wouldn’t have him any other way and neither would I.” Sen secretly agreed but just shrugged.
“Thanks again for the food,” Cadren said towards Sen, who only nodded as he focused on his own meal. Tossing Sen’krii a nervous glance, Cadren switched to Darnassian, “How did you manage to survive living with trolls? Weren’t you scared?” Giving her own shrug, Taylin answered in Darnassian as well, “I was in the beginning. Hell, when I first woke up, I thought they were going to eat me.” She laughed and continued, “But they spoke Common so that helped a lot. Trolls are no where near the savages we’ve been led to believe. Sen’s sister was even mated to a human before he was killed in the Outlands. They cared for me when they didn’t have to. Even members of our own faction may not have welcomed a stranger into their home as they did. They saved my life, Cad, more than once.” She ended with a warm smile as she glanced once more at her mate. Sen was doing his best to not appear nosey, but his twitching ears gave him away. She was also sure he was paying close attention to anything he could feel down the bond. His eagerness to protect always front and center.
Glancing between the pair, Cadren continued in Darnassian, “You sure you’re happy with him? I mean he’s not forcing you or anything is he?” Cadren’s eyes drifted to the fresh bandage that was peeking out the collar of Taylin’s chest piece. “I can help you get away from him if you need me to,” Cadren offered. Concern was evident on his face. Though he could clearly see that Taylin loved Sen, he wanted to be absolutely sure of her happiness. She may not be his, but he would always love and care for her.
Unbeknownst to her, Taylin had been right. As soon as they had switched to Darnassian, Sen had sunk deep to focus on everything Taylin was feeling. It may have been slightly wrong to eavesdrop in this way, but Sen was genuinely curious, and he always worried for her care and safety. Being so in tuned to her current emotions, Sen’krii felt the instant her anger spiked. He could feel something akin to his instincts rise within her as she felt the need to defend and protect. Sen had no idea what Cadren had said, but it had royally pissed his mate off. If she weren’t caught in the beginnings of a berserker rage, he would have laughed at the unsuspecting rogue. “E’chuta,” he cursed under his breath and quickly shot to his feet. Rapidly he clicked out several commands to Tanga who immediately pounced atop Cadren, knocking the confused Elf to his back. Already Sen could see the edges of Taylin’s eyes turning pink as red bled into glowing silver. Swiftly, Sen gathered Taylin in his arms and, keeping her turned away from Cadren, he shot the other rogue a glare. “Stay,” he commanded, his own eyes tinged in red as her anger started to rile his own instincts. Even if Tanga hadn’t been sitting atop him, Cadren knew better then to disobey the angry and protective troll.
Carrying Taylin into the hut, Sen settled himself against the back wall and tucked Taylin securely in his lap. Running his hand up and down Taylin’s throat, he attempted to calm her. “Shh, mate. Ya be alrigh.’ Jus’ calm down.” Gently he tucked her head into the crook of his neck so she could take in his scent when he felt her begin to relax. Breathing deep, Sen’s calming scent and voice began to chase away the oppressive heat of her anger. Taylin dug her hands into his chest piece as her hazy vision started to clear. “Did… did I just slip into a berserker rage?” she stuttered out uncertainly. Sen gave a soft chuckle as he ran a hand up and down her back soothingly. “Aye. Dat ya did, Elfie. Guess we know one o’ da tings ya got from meh.” Leaning back a bit to look him in the face, Taylin shot him a weak glare, “Sure, just had to be your temper.” Sen only chuckled more before capturing her lips in a swift kiss. “Bad timin’ ta say dat ya looked damn sexeh wit’ ya eyes rimmed n’ red?” he smirked. “Yes!” she snapped as she half-heartedly smacked his chest. “Urgh, no wonder you’re so grumpy. My head is killing me and that wasn’t even a full rage. How do you deal with it? And what did you do with Cadren?”
Sliding his hand up her back, Sen buried his fingers in her thick hair, massaging her scalp gently. “Beddah?” he asked softly. Taylin could only nod as she closed her eyes in bliss. “Ya get used ta it. I dun even notice da aftah affects anehmore. As fo’ ya elf, Tanga be babysittin’ ‘im. Jus’ wha’ did he say ta set ya off?”
Sheepishly, she lowered her eyes, “Promise you won’t get mad? I know that’s incredibly selfish of me to ask considering how upset it made me. But now that I’ve calmed down, I realize he was just concerned for me.” She began to nervously fidget with the folds and ties of his armor. Sensing her apprehension, Sen rubbed the side of his tusk against her cheek. “I promise I won’ get mad. Now, tell meh wha’ he said so I can decide if I’m gonna kill ‘im o’ jus’ make ‘im bleed,” he grinned, flashing his sharp teeth. “Don’t you dare, Sen!” she snapped before she felt his humor trickle down the bond and saw the mirth in his eyes. “Ass,” she muttered, earning herself a chuckle from her mate. She nervously ran a hand along his tusk while she explained, “He noticed the bandage on my shoulder. At first he was just asking if I was alright and happy. Then he asked if you were forcing me to be with you. Don’t Sen. I know that look and you promised. He didn’t mean anything by it. He was just worried about me. You may not agree or like it very much, but he’s been my best friend for centuries. And, I may regret saying this, but he's probably been in love with me almost as long. But you have nothing to fear. He accepted that we’d only ever be friends, and that was long before you were in my life. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about me. I’m not used to these instincts of yours, so once again I got carried away with my emotions. So please, Sen, for me, don’t get upset with him.” Taylin reached up and cupped his cheek, hoping to calm the hurt and anger that was simmering just below his icy façade.
Sen had slipped on his icy mask out of habit at hearing what Taylin had to say. Currently, he wanted nothing more than to beat his mate’s friend to a bloody pulp. ‘How dare he accuse me of hurting or forcing my mate,’ he raged in his head. No self-respecting troll would ever abuse their mate like that. And she was his true mate, no less. That elf could never fathom the depth of love he had for his mate. To accuse him of something so sickening, was making Sen see red. Fisting his hand in Taylin’s hair, he slid his tusks over her shoulder bad buried his nose behind her ear. It was his turn to take comfort in her scent. Breathing deep, Sen let go of his anger. He had made a promise to his mate, and he aimed to keep it. Mind finally clear, he pulled away from Taylin, “Ya be askin’ a lot o’ ya mate, Tay. I be ‘avin’ evereh right ta be defendin’ mah honah an’ yours wit’ wha’ he be implyin.’ But,” he gently raised his voice to speak over Taylin’s obvious interruption, “I made ya two promises. Dat I would ‘old mah tempah and dat I be doin’ anehting ta keep ya happeh. But don be expectin’ meh ta be forgettin’ dis dat easileh. Gonna be a bit fo’ I can forgive ‘im. An’ one o’ dese days, I’m gonna say no ta ya. Ya can’ keep expectin’ meh ta back down evereh time jus’ cause ya ask. Ya know I love ya, and I’ll always try ta give ya wha’ ya want, but dammit Tay, dis be pushin’ meh too far.” Frustrated, he roughly ran a hand through his mohawk.
Wringing her hands between them, Taylin lowered her eyes to her lap, “I know Sen, and I’m sorry. You’ve done so much for me and yet I keep pushing. I know I keep asking too much of you. Then to keep yanking your leash back when everything you’re doing and trying to do is only for me. It’s not fair. And I promise if something like this happens again, I won’t stop you or get in your way. I fell in love with you, and I need to remember that. To let you be you, the troll I so desperately fell in love with.” Sen was moved by not only her words, but the deep love, remorse , and conviction he could feel flowing down their bond. Gently, he placed a knuckle under her chin, lifting her eyes to his. “An’ I gotta’ membah dat I fell in love wit’ a beautiful and strong-willed elf. Ya heart be so soft and open dat sometimes I feel like I need ta be extra ‘ard an’ strong fo’ da both o’ us. But dat not always be da case. Ya be as strong as aneh troll an’ I couldn’ be proudah ta call ya mah mate.” He pulled her in and placed a warm kiss to her lips.
Blushing, Taylin thanked him for his kind and heart felt words. “Now what do we tell Cadren? I’m sure he’s wondering what happened. How do we explain without giving away our secrets?” she asked, worry and confusion clear on her face. Stroking a hand down his tusk pensively, “Tell ya wha,’ if he be seein’ dat ya eyes were red den ya can tell ‘im everehting. I know ya be trustin’ ‘im, and if he cares as much ‘bout ya as ya say, den he won’ be betrayin’ ya. But if not, den we can jus’ play it off as part o’ bein’ mated ta a troll. Not completeleh a lie,” Sen gave her a warm smile. “Thanks, mate,” Taylin said softly.
Raising to his feet, Sen kept Taylin in his arms as he walked out the hut. They saw that Tanga was still sitting on an annoyed and confused Cadren. Sighing, Taylin told Tanga to release him. Glancing at her master and mistress, and seeing that they were both alright, Tanga slid off the elf and fell in step beside her master. Sen sat down against the opposite side of the doorway from Cadren, keeping Taylin wrapped possessively in his arms. Tanga laid in the doorway, keeping herself between her family and the elf.
Seeing that Taylin had calmed down and that he was free from the large cat, Cadren sat up and looked questionably at the pair. “What happened?” he asked, concerned. “And Sen, forgive me. I’m sure Taylin told you what I said. I was just worried for her and wanted to be sure she was genuinely happy. But with the way she reacted and how swiftly you came to comfort her, I know my concerns were unfounded. So again, I’m sorry.” Cadren lowered his shameful eyes to his lap. He was certain he had just ruined any hope of becoming friends with Taylin’s mate.
Shooting a glare at Cadren, Sen kept his mouth shut. He was unsure if he could keep himself from snapping at the elf and he didn’t want to further upset his mate. Turning in Sen’s lap to fully face Cadren, Taylin entwined one of Sen’s hands in her own. “While I know what you said was because you were worried about me, it doesn’t change the fact that it was wrong. It really upset me and hurt him. By all rights I should let him kick your ass for what you said about him. But it would break my heart to see two of the people I care about most fight. Especially since I know Sen would utterly destroy you and I don’t want to see you hurt so badly.” Taylin shot Cadren a proud smirk as she felt Sen’s pleased pride trickle down the bond. Taylin wasn’t just trying to assuage her mate, she truly meant it. She knew Sen could easily win a one on one with Cadren. Cad worked better through stealth and surprise, while Sen was a seasoned fighter.
Cadren prickled at the insult, but knew Taylin was probably right. Besides, he deserved the jab. “Again, my apologies. I should of known better than to imply anything like that. Especially knowing your feelings on that subject, Taylin. So, what actually happened? I’ve never seen you get so instantly angry before. The way you looked at me, it was as though you wanted to kill me. And your eyes, if I didn’t know better, I would have thought they were turning red like when his kind goes into a berserker rage.”
“Well looks like we gotta explain. You sure you’re alright with this?” Taylin asked softly to Sen. Running a hand through his hair, Sen shrugged. “Not realleh, but not much o’ a choice now, mon. It be up ta ya ta tell ‘im wha’ ya wan.’ But leave out da findin’ each otha part. Dat still be our secret.” Sen leaned forward and placed a quick kiss behind her ear. Carefully, he picked up Taylin and set her down before standing. With a few clicks of his tongue and one long whistle, Tanga had taken his spot around Taylin’s back and Bezwen rushed to Sen’s side. Without taking the time to saddle him, Sen had thrown his leg over the raptor and taken off into the Barrens. Taylin sent her love and concern to Sen, but all she felt in return was nothing. Deciding not to jump to the wrong conclusions again, she thought about what that might mean. Then it dawned on her. He needed quiet and time alone. She couldn’t really blame him. He was used to dealing with things on his own, and while their relationship was a happy love filled one, it was a huge change in his life. And to top it off, she had pushed him several times to the razor’s edge, and each time he had backed down for her. He probably needed to let off some steam away from everyone. Pushing one last bit of love and understanding towards him, she let him be.
Surprise was clear on Cadren’s face. As overly protective as Sen’krii had been, he didn’t understand why the troll and suddenly left Taylin alone with him. ‘Well, not completely alone,’ he thought as he eyed the large panther. He turned questioning eyes to Taylin, “Where’s he off to in such a hurry?”
“Leave him be,” she snapped. Though she understood his reasoning, she was still more than upset with him. “He’s doing this, not only because he needs some time alone, but to prove a point. That I’m free to make my own choices. He’ll never admit this to you, but what you accused him of hurt him deeply, and quite probably if he hadn’t of stepped in and calmed me down, I would have fought you myself. I love him and I will always choose him. Now, there’s some things I need to explain, but I need your word that what I have to say stays between us. I won’t risk our lives just because you’re my dear friend,” Taylin’s fierce gaze held Cadren’s while she waited for his response.
“You have my word, Taylin. Whatever you have to say stays between us. You know I care deeply for you and would never risk our friendship, let alone your life.” Taylin nodded as she saw the truth in Cadren’s eyes. Breathing a sigh of relief, she started to explain the full scope of being a true mate. That both she and Sen would eventually come to posses each other’s powers in some way. That her sudden anger had pushed her into a berserker rage. “We have no idea what we may gain from each other or the full extent as to what those abilities may be capable of. We’ve been mated barely a week and so many things are still unknown. But it’s clear I’ve inherited his rage and some of his instincts, which is great in actual battle, I suppose, but that was the first time it’s happened, and I wasn’t prepared for the feeling or the aftereffects. If Sen hadn’t been here, I don’t know what I may have done. But the urge to kill was incredibly strong. It’s what he feels all the time where I’m concerned. His instincts drive him hard to see that I’m protected and cared for, and I got a small taste of those instincts. So, never doubt his feelings towards me again.” Taylin closed her eyes as she felt Sen’s adrenaline spike. ‘He must have found something to hunt,’ she though as she focused on their link. He was clam so she figured there was nothing to worry about. Refocusing on Cadren, she continued, “We’ve heard it could be dangerous for us if people found out about our gifts. And I, for one, believe that. Everyone seeks power or a way to use it. If Sen could use my shadow bending abilities along with his hunting skills, do you have any idea how sought after he would be? Or if the Sentinels learned I could access a berserker rage? They’d be demanding I join them or worse, try to find a way to manufacture Sen and I’s bond. What we have is incredibly special, and I won’t let anyone take that away from us.”
Cadren couldn’t believe what he was hearing. ‘No wonder Sen and Taylin had gotten so upset,’ he thought to himself. What they shared was incredible. He had never heard of such a thing. Happiness and fear lanced through him. He was incredibly happy for what Taylin had found with Sen. She deserved someone that would always be there for her, but he knew she was right. If others learned of their unique capabilities, they could be hunted down. As it was, their lives were going to be hard since Sen was Horde and she was Alliance. But if anyone was strong enough to face these challenges, it was these two. Cad felt even more sorry for having even considered the possibility that Sen had ill intentions towards Taylin. He knew he’d have to find some way to make it up to them. “Listen Tay, I really am truly sorry. I never should have doubted you or Sen. And with what you just said, you two are incredibly special. Again, you have my word I won’t repeat any of this to anyone else. I can only hope Sen can forgive me and give me a chance to be his friend. I want to be a part of your lives. And, maybe, I’m just a bit curious as to what you two will continue to gain from each other.” He gave Taylin a toothy smirk. She couldn’t help but return the smile, “Just give him some time. He’s not exactly fond of Alliance. And that has nothing to do with the factions themselves. And what you accused him of didn’t exactly help.” At his confused expression, she explained what had happened to Sen’s sister and her family. “Believe me, Sen was not thrilled with me in the beginning. He tried to run me off several times. I think the only reason he never actually did is because subconsciously our bond wouldn’t let him. That and I was extremely stubborn. I was attracted to him and no matter what he said or did, I wasn’t going to leave him. Who knows, maybe that was my side of the bond peeking though. Either way, I’m glad he never truly made me leave. And I’m beyond thankful to his sister for putting her foot down and letting me stay. Even though I realize now that even from the beginning, she had hoped for something to develop between the two of us. I think she just wanted Sen to find someone and be happy like she had been with Aaron.” Taylin snickered and shoved her annoyance and humor down the bond. She didn’t know how, but she could tell Sen was snooping as he shifted through her feelings. She could almost hear him chuckle at being caught.
The heat of the Barrens bore down on Sen as he raced away from their campsite atop Bezwen. He hated leaving Taylin’s side, but he needed some time to process. So much had happened in so little time and his justified anger towards Cadren and his mate for stopping him had been a tipping point. He knew Taylin was safe, but his instincts still railed against him for leaving her with another male. But his pride wouldn’t allow him to turn around. Sen felt when Taylin pushed her love and concern to him, but he chose not to answer. At first he was worried she would take it the wrong way, that he was shutting her out. She did have a tendency to jump to conclusions, but she surprised him this time. Understanding bloomed in his chest before she pulled away. She had figured out that he simply needed some space and time alone. His mate was finally learning and putting her trust and faith in him. Sen grinned as he patted Bezwen’s neck, “Let’s find something to hunt. I need to let off some steam and I’m sure the others wouldn’t mind some more fresh meat for dinner.” Bezwen gave a happy chortle to the Zandali words. It had been a while since he and his master had gone on a hunt together.
In his rush to leave, Sen realized he had forgotten his bow; however, he still had his dagger strapped to his waist. He decided now would be the perfect opportunity to assess his suspicions of gaining some of Taylin’s mastery over the shadows. He wanted to see just what he was capable of. Spying a small herd of gazelle grazing in the shade of a large Balboa tree, Sen saw his opportunity. Dismounting Bezwen, he eyed the herd and gave a series of clicking commands to Bezwen. Bez hunkered down and waited for his master’s signal. Crouching in the tall prairie grass, Sen silently slipped into the shadows of the tree opposite of the grazing herd. Concentrating on the shadows around him, Sen felt a thrill course through him as he realized the shadows had thoroughly engulfed him, keeping him completely hidden from view. Silently, he drew his dagger and slowly crept to the closest buck. Mere inches from the unsuspecting animal, Sen felt his adrenaline spike as he swiftly slit the creatures throat. He had been so swift and silent; the rest of the herd hadn’t even noticed. Springing forward, Sen gave a whistle at the same time he dispatched another young buck. Bez had heard the call and had immediately leapt upon a small doe that had been grazing close to where Bez had hunkered down in the tall grass. His sharp fangs and claws made quick work of the poor animal. At all the commotion, the rest of the herd had scattered, but between the three gazelle they had brought down, there would be plenty of food for all, including the animals.
Dragging the three animals together, Sen got to work skinning and cleaning them. Once that was finished, he let Bezwen have the doe he brought down. The raptor tore into the carcass with reckless abandon. “Glutton,” Sen chuckled at the blood covered raptor. Bez just shrieked happily before getting back to his meal. Sen butchered the remaining two while Bez ate. He wrapped the best cuts in the doe’s hide and a few legs in one of the other skins for Tanga. While he worked he let himself sink down to check on Taylin. He’d been gone for a couple of hours, and he was starting to miss her presence. He tried to sift through her emotions to get a read on what she was up to. Suddenly he felt her humor and mild annoyance nearly slap him in the face. She knew! Somehow she knew he was being nosey. A loud chuckle broke from Sen’s lips at being caught. His mate never ceased to amaze him. Sen sent a wave of happiness and love down the bond then quickly finished. He wanted to get back to his mate how that his mood had lifted, and he’d worked out some of his pent-up frustrations and aggressions.
Arriving back at camp, Sen saw Taylin getting things ready around the campfire to cook his haul. Judging by the position of the sun, he figured it was late afternoon. Though they had originally planned to start traveling today, he figured one more day at this campsite couldn’t hurt, besides, with meeting up with Cadren their plans had already begun to change. Sen caught Taylin’s eyes and gave her a nod of assurance. Everything was alright and he was feeling much better. She gave him a dazzling smile in return. Quickly, Sen hopped off Bezwen and unloaded the heavy leather bundles that were strapped to his sides. Using some branches off some nearby brush, Sen built a small drying rack near the fire. Pulling out some of the meat that he’d already cut into thin strips, he placed them on the rack to turn into jerky for their travels. It would keep much longer and be lighter to carry. With what they had left over from Tanga’s kill and the remaining bit from his gazelles, there would be plenty for dinner and breakfast. While he worked, he talked, “Where be ya rogue?”
Taylin had taken shelter in the shade of the hut. She had been admiring her mate as he worked for he had shed his chest armor for some relief from the heat. His skin had slickened with sweat and glistened in the sunlight as his muscles flexed. ‘Damn he’s sexy,’ she thought. She would never tire of watching him. Shaking her head, “He went to refill our water skins. He said he had seen a small oasis from the air not too far away. I used the last of the water to boil some tubers I found to go with dinner.”
A smirk crossed his lips as he felt her desire trickle down the bond. Standing fully upright, Sen rolled his shoulders as he stretched his back. Purposefully, he flexed his arms and turned just slightly to give her a better view of his defined abdominal muscles. He watched her out the corner of his eye as she turned her head, trying to hide her flushed face. A flash back of her sitting at Kreeva’s table after waking up flashed in his mind. Deciding to tease her just as he had then, “Like wha’ ya see, girlie?” He chuckled as she turned an even darker shade of scarlet at being caught. But this time she didn’t shy away from him. Licking her lips, she answered as she looked him up and down, “Absolutely, all that meat looks absolutely delicious.” She could feel Sen preen in pride at her words. “And I can’t wait for dinner. Thanks for hunting for us,” she teased and snickered as she saw him slightly deflate. “Tease,” he muttered to her. “Says the one who looks better than a glass of cold water in the deserts of Tanaris,” she winked at him. His pride returned, causing him to slightly puff his chest out as he grinned from ear to ear.
Walking towards the door of the hut, he called to Taylin, “Commere, mate.” With two quick clicks, he gave Tanga the command to guard. Following her master, she sat in the doorway and waited for Taylin to enter before laying along the threshold, guarding the two within. Sen stood just inside to the left of the door. As soon as Taylin was inside, he grabbed her hand and pulled her to him. He pushed her back against the wall and wedged a knee between her legs. Slowly, he slid his knee up along the wall until Taylin was straddling his thigh, her feet dangling a few inches off the ground. Taylin grabbed his shoulders for support as he leaned forwards, slipping his tusks around her face. Sen captured her lips in an intensely heated kiss. Taylin melted against him. His dominance once again causing a thrill to jolt through her. Pulling back, she whimpered, “What was that for?”
Sen let his tusks rest on her shoulders, the tips pressed into the wall behind her. He had her completely trapped and at his mercy. Giving her a smirk, “Can’ a mon miss ‘is mate?” A chuckle broke free at Taylin’s amused expression. Wrapping his hands around Taylin’s wrists, Sen pinned them just above her head. Taylin quirked her eyebrows at him, but Sen could both feel and smell the spike in her arousal. “If dat friend a ya’s wasn’ comin’ back, I’d be takin’ ya right ‘ere, right now.” He gave her a cocky grin. “But til I can, consider dis an apologeh ta leavin’ earliah. I jus’ needed some time ta tink. An’ be alone. But I missed mah mate. An’ tank ya fo’ undahstandin’ dat I wasn’ shuttin’ ya out. I’d nevah do dat ta ya.” He turned his head so he could slip his tusks around the front and back of her throat, letting him kiss and nuzzle along the side of her neck.
Heat was starting to course through Taylin’s body, but she did her best to keep her thoughts coherent. But Goddess, his lips were distracting. Swallowing hard, “You have nothing to apologize for, mate. And I made a promise to myself to stop jumping to conclusions. It only ends up hurting us both. Besides, I do have faith in you so it’s about time I start showing it.” His teeth had found a particularly sensitive spot and she moaned. “Sen…. Sen!” She squeaked. “Hmm?” He mumbled against her soft heated skin. “Please…,” she trailed off with another moan. “Please, wha’?” he asked as he licked along her ear. Her core was starting to radiate heat and Sen could already feel it through the thick armor of his thigh. ‘Please don’t stop…. Stop,’ her mind was in shambles, and for the life of her she wasn’t sure which she had wanted to say. Biting her lip, she finally managed to clear her mind somewhat. “Stop. Cad could be back at any second.” Giving her ear a rough nip, Sen pulled back. “As ya wish, mate.” He leaned forwards and flicked the tip of his tongue along her bottom lip, capturing the small bead of blood that had welled up from her fang.
“So, wha’ did ya tell ‘im?” She gave a slight tug to her arms. Getting the hint, Sen released her wrists, and she settled her hands back atop his shoulders. “Everything, except how we can find each other. He really is sorry and hopes he still has a chance to be friends with you. He wants to be a part of our lives, and Sen, I want him to be as well.” Sighing, Sen looked away, “I alreadeh forgave ‘im, but onleh fo’ ya. I know ya care ‘bout ‘im an’ dat it would ‘urt ya ta lose him. But dun expect meh ta be forgettin’ wha’ he say. O’ ta be ‘is best friend ovah night. But I’ll do mah best fo’ ya. An’ I wan’ ‘im in our lives too.” He glanced back at Taylin just as she gave him a dazzling smile. “Thanks, mate. I really don’t deserve you.” “Yeah, ya do. An’ anehting fo’ ya, always.” Leaning in, he caught her lips in a soft kiss. Before he could deepen it, Tanga let out a loud growl and had stoop up. She was tensed and ready to defend. Just then, they heard the flap of large wings and Cadren calling out. “Taylin? Hello?”
Sighing, Sen let Taylin down after he stole another quick kiss. With a smile to her mate, Taylin headed out the doorway, calling out to Cadren, “We’re here.” She gave Tanga a quick scratch behind her ears and whispered a thank you to the cat. Tanga gave her mistress a warm mew. Letting himself take a moment, Sen breathed deep several times before following his mate out the door.
Upon exiting, Sen saw Taylin helping Cadren remove several water canteens from the saddlebags on his mount. Cadren caught his eye, “Before you or she says anything, I just wanted to apologize to you again. I should bever have said that and I’m sorry.” Sen ran a hand through his hair, “Pologeh accepted. But dun evah question mah feelin’s fo’ Tay again. She mah mate an’ da next time ya say sometin’ dat stupid, she won’ be holdin’ meh back. I won’ kill ya cause it ‘urt ‘er too much, but I will make ya bleed.” Sen pulled his lips in a grim smile. He had caught Taylin’s slight nod of approval out the corner of his eye. Cadren gave a curt nod of his own. “I understand and you have my word I’ll never doubt you again where she’s concerned. After everything Taylin’s explained about you, you have my respect and my friendship, if you’ll have it.” Cadren lifted his eyebrows, hope clear in his expression. Glancing at Taylin, Sen sighed and held out his hand. With a smile, Cadren clasped Sen’s wrist in a firm shake.
Relief washed through Taylin as she watched the two. She was happy things were looking up. Clearing her throat, “Thanks for getting us more water, Cad.” “It’s the least I could do. And I may have come up with another way to make things up to you two.” Lifting her brows, she gave Cadren a questioning look. “Oh?” she said as she placed the small pot of tubers in the coals by the fire to boil. Sen stepped forwards and pulled out the last of the meat from breakfast and some of his own kill. Finding a large flat stone, Sen used a piece of fat and rubbed it over the stone, both cleaning and greasing it up. Finding his small pouch of seasonings, he rubbed both sides of the six filets. Placing the large stone near the fire, he let it get hot before adding the meat, sizzling at the touch. While Sen worked, Cadren talked. “I’m guessing you want to see your parents, right Tay?” he asked. Nodding, “Yeah I do. I don’t know what I’m going to say to them though. Originally, I thought I’d keep me and Sen’s relationship a secret from them. But I’ve given it a lot of thought and I want them to meet him.” A loud choking cough caused them both to look at Sen.
Completely taken by surprise, Sen thumped his chest as he stared at Taylin. “Ya wan’ meh ta meet ya parents? I ‘onored, but ya be crazy. Even if dey agree to meet meh, I can’ exactleh go up in dat big tree a ya’s.” Sen continued to stare at Taylin, disbelief written all over his face. “Well, I kind of figured Taylin might suggest something like this. And I have an idea,” Cadren said, glancing between the two. Both Sen and Taylin settled by the fire and watched Cadren, waiting for an explanation. Sitting down himself, Cadren started to explain. “I spent some time with your mother after word of your death arrived. Something tells me she’s just been going through the motions. I don’t think she ever believed you were dead. I think I could convince her and your father to come to Astranaar and meet with you two just outside. There’s a small, secluded campsite on the opposite side of the lake. It isn’t used much anymore because of the wild furlbogs and large spiders that frequent the area. I only happened to stumble upon it years ago when I was flying around near Astranaar. But should I tell them you’re waiting there or leave that as a surprise?” Taylin gasped at her friend. Slowly a smile grew. “Oh Cad! Thank you. That would be absolutely perfect. With Sen’s knowledge of some hidden paths, and mine of where the Sentinels like to patrol, we should be able get near Astranaar without any real problems. And I think you should tell my parents about me at least. Leave Sen out for now. That way they can at least somewhat prepare and only have one serious shock to deal with when we meet up.” Taylin was almost giddy. She couldn’t wait to see her family again, and with Cadren’s help, she could even let them meet Sen. She was a little worried on how they may react, but she’d kept enough secrets from them. With her near death and new life with Sen, she wanted a clean slate. She wanted to finally tell them everything. If they chose to abandon her, then so be it. She’d be heartbroken, but she’d have her mate. And there was Kreeva and Cadren. She would at least have some family if her parents couldn’t handle her being with Sen’krii. But she had faith in her parents and knew they loved her very much. She just couldn’t see them turning their backs on their daughter simply because of who she chose as her mate.
“Wait, wait. Ya sure ‘bout dis, mate?’ Ya realleh wan’ meh ta meet ya famleh?” Sen asked with both concern and worry on both his face and pounding through the bond. Taylin nodded happily, “Yes. They deserve to know I’m alright. And I really do want them to meet you. You’re my life now and I want them to see how happy I am. Besides, one day I might want them to meet their grandchild and his or her appearance may shock them if they don’t know about you.” She shot him a playful smirk. Sen’s jaw dropped open. Clicking it closed, he eyed Taylin as pink tinged his cheeks. He was imagining her round with his child. “Ok den. I swear, ya realleh are gonna be da death o’ meh.” Laughter broke from Taylin’s lips. “Scared to meet the in-laws?” she teased. He hmphed and flicked his thumb towards Cadren, “Ya best friend already ‘ad a daggah ta mah throat and den be accusin’ meh o’ ‘urtin’ ya. Dat’s not exactleh puttin’ meh at ease ta meet mo’ o’ ya loved ones.”
Worry started to bubble up within Taylin at Sen’s words, but she quickly tamped it down before Sen noticed. Trying to produce a good response, Taylin sighed. “Point taken. But have some faith in your mate. At least you won’t be naked and completely scared out of your mind when you meet your in-laws for the first time,” she half grumbled, half teased. Sen licked his lips as an image of Taylin naked flashed through his mind. With a quick shake of his head, Sen cleared his mind of anymore distracting thoughts. Reaching out, he used his dagger to skillfully flip the sizzling steaks. “Dat be different. We weren’ mated den.”
The sizzling meat had started to make Taylin’s mouth water and her stomach let out a small growl. “Maybe I should have let you do the cooking back at Kree’s cause that smells delicious,” she teased. “Anyways, she was still my future sister-in-law, even if neither of us knew it at the time. So, please Sen, say you’ll meet my parents,” her eyes were large as she softly pleaded. With a warm yet slightly cheeky grin, “I nevah said no, mate.”
A squeal tore from Taylin’s lips as she leaned over and threw her arms around Sen’s shoulders. She hugged him for all she was worth, and because of his height and size difference from where they currently sat, only his right shoulder and upper arm were within reach of her lips. Happily, she peppered the warm skin with quick little butterfly kisses. Sen chuckled, “Ya sure ya ovah tree ‘undred? Cause ya be actin’ like a teen dat jus’ got ‘er first mount.” She nipped his shoulder in mock annoyance, but before she could say anything, Cadren cut in. “She’s always been like that. One minute she’s a real Night Elf lady, then she’s hissing and snarling because someone pissed her off, but then, before you know it, she’s bouncing around like a giddy schoolgirl. Took me decades to keep up with her mood swings.” “I know exactleh wha’ ya mean,” Sen snickered. Taylin crossed her arms and hmphed, “I am not that bad.” Sen and Cadren shared a knowing look before both chuckled at the pouting female. “Did she evah keep jumpin’ ta conclusions?” Sen asked with a wry grin. “Oh, all the time. Guess she still is?” Cadren replied. “Two outta da tree times she’s hit meh was cause o’ dat,” Sen said as he idly rubbed his cheek. “Da odda time, I probleh deserved it.” He couldn’t help but smirk at that memory. “Oh wonderful. You two finally start bonding and it’s over bad mouthing me,” Taylin didn’t know whether to laugh or keep pouting. Though the corners of her mouth did turn up slightly. “Not so much fun bein’ ganged up on, is it, mate?” Sen teased, remembering when she and his sister had teamed up against him.
Ignoring both the chuckling males, Taylin carefully pulled the pot of boiling tubers from the fire. After carefully draining the water, she used a fork to mash them. Mixing in a bit of salt from Sen’s pack, she evenly dished out three portions into the bowls from breakfast. Getting the hint, Sen removed the meat stone from the coals and put a filet in each bowl, leaving the rest for whoever wanted more. As they ate, they continued to discuss their plans. “When should I have your parents in Astranaar?” Cadren asked. “Sen?” Taylin looked to her mate with eyebrows raised. “If we leave in da mornin’ we could probleh make dat camp around dinnah time in bout tree days.” He figured it would take a day and a half to two days to make it out of the Barrens and into Ashenvale. At least if there were no complications. Then at least a day of traveling though the forests before they’d be near Astranaar.
“So how about I have them there at high moon that night? They still follow the nocturnal cycle anyways,” Cadren replied. “I may have switched to the diurnal lifestyle, but we never did get much sleep when I was in Darnassus. Between spending part of the day in the Rogue’s Den and the nights with our families, I’m fine with that. You alright with that Sen?” she asked. “Not like I can’ pull an all nightah. Ya should know dat,” he winked at a blushing Taylin. “Then it’s settled. If I leave tonight and fly straight on, I should get home early morning on the second day. That gives me plenty of time to rest and then speak to your parents. Kal probably won’t be happy about the back-to-back hard journeys, but I can let him rest in the stables while your parents and I take the flight point from Darnassus to Astranaar. Thankfully, it’s just a bit less than half a night’s ride, so we should get there just before you want to meet.” “Thank you for doing this, Cadren. It means so much to me,” Taylin said. A warm smile was bright on her lips. She couldn’t wait to see her parents again. “Of course. Besides, I gotta repay you for the meals. And make up for my idiocy earlier. Plus, you know I’ll always be there for you, Tay. Always have and always will be. That goes for you as well Sen. I may have stuck my foot in my mouth earlier, but anyone who loves Taylin like you do will always have me on their side.” Cadren gave them both a large smile. He truly meant what he said.
Momentarily at a loss for words, Sen ran his hand through his crest as he stared at Cadren. He wasn’t entirely sure what to say. Taylin felt her mate’s unease and piped up, “Thanks, Cadren. It’s comforting to know that no matter what happens with my family, I’ll still have you.” Sen bristled slightly at her words but understood what she meant. “Tank ya, mon. If ya be getting’ ‘er parents ta where we be meetin’ den we be even an’ good.”
“Then I better be on my way,” Cadren said as he finished off the last bite of his meal. Calling for Kal, Cadren scooped up one of the left-over steaks and threw it to the beast. Kal quickly snapped it up. He bowed his head and ruffled his wings to show thanks. Cadren patted his neck affectionately. “We got another long trip old friend. But I promise when we get home, you can rest for days,” Cadren had kept his tone low as he spoke to his mount, now he turned back to the odd couple. They had both risen to see him off. “If something ends up delaying you, I will wait two more nights. Hopefully, if necessary, I can convince your parents to wait that long. Any longer and I’m back tracking to find you. So don’t be late,” he both warned and teased. “And so you’re aware, I’m not going to tell anyone else that you’re alive. Just your parents. After you see them, you can decide if you want others to know.”
Sharp canines dug into her bottom lip as Taylin thought over what Cadren had said. It was not a bad idea to keep her return a secret. Might be easier in the long run since she had no intention of ever returning there, save for maybe a secret visit to her parents. Nodding, “Thanks again. And that’s for the best at least for now. I need to talk to my parents before anyone else finds out. And we’ll do our best to be there on time.” Sen eyed the two for a moment at Taylin’s side. Finally making up his mind, Sen quickly spun on his heel and headed for his pack. Jumping slightly at his sudden movement, Taylin turned towards him in curiosity. Cadren watched the troll as well, with eyebrows slightly raised. He glanced at Taylin who just shrugged. Sen dug into a small secret compartment of his bag and finally found what he was looking for. Wrapping his fingers tightly around the small object, Sen returned to Taylin’s side. “I ‘ad planned on givin’ dis ta Tay when she be goin’ da last bit o’ da way without meh. But seein’ as we be goin’ tagedda, I be givin’ it ta ya,” Sen stepped forwards and held his closed fist out to Cadren. Confused, Cad opened his hand under Sen’s fist. A small hand carved whistle fell into his palm. It had a fine gray feather tied to the side and was painted black save for a single red and gray stripe near the mouthpiece. Cadren glanced from the odd whistle to Sen with eyebrows raised.
“Dat’s fo’ if dere be a ‘mergency o’ if we be late. Ya can get ahold o’ meh wit’ it,” Sen explained. Seeing Cadren’s confused expression, Sen turned towards the sky and pursed his lips. He made a short piercing shriek followed by a longer shrill whistle. Cadren’s mount stepped closer and ruffled his neck feathers as he tilted his head in curiosity at Sen. Sen gave the griffin a smirk. Apparently, the beast had recognized the avian call. It was as close to a true avian shriek as a troll throat could make, after all. “What are you doing?” Taylin asked, glancing between Cadren’s mount and her mate. “Just wait,” Sen answered as his eyes searched the sky. Suddenly, two distant calls were heard, sounding almost identical to the whistles Sen had made. Stepping away from Taylin, Sen held out his arm. Mere moments later, a whisper of feathers in the air above them caused everyone to look up. A sleek gray falcon dropped from the sky and dove straight for Sen. Keeping still, Sen braced his arm as the bird pulled up at the last second and landed on his wrist, talons digging lightly into his skin for purchase. The falcon fluttered her wings as she eyed her master with highly intelligent amber eyes. Clicking her beak several times, she hopped up along his arm until she could tap her beak against Sen’s closest tusk. It was a sign of affection for her master. Something she had done since the first day he had obtained her. A smile spread across Sen’s face as he softly slid a finger over her head and down her back. It had been a while since he had called for her. She tended to herself but was never out of range of his call.
Looking between master and pet, Taylin wasn’t sure what to say or even what was going on. She had never seen the bird before, but obviously, she was her mate’s and she’d been close enough to hear his call. “Sen?” she asked. She had too many questions so she left them unsaid, hoping he would fully explain.
Grinning, Sen turned towards his mate, “Dis be Sekre,” The falcon gave a soft caw at her name. “It means ‘secret’ in Zandali. She be mah partnah fo’ mah mo’ secretive missions fo’ da Horde.” Scratching the back of his neck with his free hand, he awkwardly continued. “I onleh be tellin’ ya dis cause I trust ya. But if da Horde found out, dey be callin’ meh a traitah. Ya see, I not onleh a fightah, but I also be a scout o’ spy. Wit’ mah trackin’ an wit’ Sekre ‘ere, I used ta keep an eye on da movements o’ da Alliance. Sekre used ta deliver messages to anyone dat ‘ad ‘er whistle. O’ dey could send em ta meh when I be behind enemeh lines. I ‘aven’ called on ‘er in a while doe. But she always be close. She was probleh roostin’ in da riggin’ o’ da ship we came ‘ere on. But no one noticed ‘er, not even meh. But dat why she so good at ‘er job, no one ever notices a small bird sittin’ up somewhere.” Sen looked at Sekre with pride before glancing back at Taylin and Cadren. “I was gonna give ‘er whistle ta Taylin so dat if she evah needed meh, she could reach meh. But now I’m givin’ it ta ya. Dun make meh regret it,” he warned a bit icily. “If we be late, just call fo’ ‘er da next mornin’ an’ I’ll send a message why wit’ ‘er. If dere be an’ emergenceh, jus’ call an’ tell her wha’ be wrong. Dun worreh how, but I’ll know wha’ ya say ta ‘er.” With a flick of his arm, Sekre hopped to his shoulder. “Commere, mate,” Sen said, holding out a hand to her. Cautiously, Taylin stepped towards him.
Wrapping his hand around one of Taylin’s, Sen pulled her arm out. He gave a very soft whistle to Sekre who looked from Sen to Taylin. Hopping down from his shoulder, she started to hop along his outstretched arm towards Taylin. “Gently,” he warned in Zandali. Cocking her head, she eyed Sen with a single eye, as if scolding him. If she could have, Sekre would have rolled her eyes at her master. She wasn’t a chick. She knew to be careful of her talons. Just because she liked to remind him of her sharp claws, didn’t mean she would hurt this female. Sekre was aware that this female was her master’s mate and that she was very precious to him. With a light flap of her wings and a few careful side steps, Sekre alighted on Taylin’s wrist. Her talons barely prickling the elf’s skin. “Dere. Sekre, dis be Taylin, mah mate. You two intraduce yaselves while I talk wit’ Cad fo’ a bit.” He shot Taylin a goofy grin before making his way to Cadren where he spoke in hushed tones.
‘What am I supposed to do now?’ Taylin wondered as she looked over the bird. She really was beautiful up close. Sleek gray feathers, sharp hooked beak, bright amber eyes that seemed to be studying her, and razor tipped talons, she was beautiful yet probably just as deadly as Tanga or Bezwen. However, she was rather small for a hunter’s pet. ‘That’s probably why he chose her,’ Taylin thought. ‘No one would notice a small bird sitting in a tree and they would never think she belonged to a hunter.’ Unsure of what to say, Taylin started to softly speak, “Umm… Hello. I’m Taylin. Nice to meet you.” Carefully, Sekre raised her right foot, and Taylin swore it looked as though she was waving. Taylin was surprised but a sneaking suspicion started to bloom in the back of her mind. Switching to Darnassian, she said hello again and asked Sekre to wave again. The bird cocked her head but lifted her foot again. Taylin whipped her head towards Sen, “Sen!” she yelled.
Feeling Taylin’s anger and hearing her call out to him, he headed back to her side. “You know Darnassian?” Taylin asked accusingly. Sighing, Sen ran his hand through his hair, “I undahstand some, but I can’ speak it.” “Then how does she,” she gestured towards Sekre, “understand if you didn’t teach her?” Unease swept through Sen. He wasn’t sure if he should tell Taylin that story, but also knew his stubborn mate wouldn’t drop it. Some of Sen’s unease had trickled to Taylin so she softened her expression, “Please tell me.” Giving in, Sen gave a soft whistle and Sekre fluttered to his shoulder. “She knows ya language cause she was a Night Elf’s pet.” “What?” Taylin loudly interrupted. Ignoring her, Sen continued, “I was scoutin’ in da trees bahtween Astranaar an’ Splintahtree, when I came across an Elf alone an’ bein’ way too loud fo’ as close ta a Horde base as ‘e was. I watched ‘im yell at dis lil feathered fluff fo’ ‘e backhanded ‘er inta a tree. I saw red. I shot clean through ‘is ‘eart fo’ he knew what hit ‘im. Sekre ‘ad a broken wing an’ was filtheh, so I bundled ‘er up an’ brought ‘er ta mah camp. Been wit’ meh evah since.” Sen stroked her wing softly as he finished speaking.
While Sen had been speaking, Cadren had wandered over to listen in, his curiosity peaked. When Sen finished, Cadren’s eyes widened, “It couldn’t be.” Switching to Darnassian, Cadren said, “Silverwing.” Almost instantly, Sekre recoiled into Sen’s neck, a loud shriek startling them all. “Well, I’ll be damned. I thought she looked familiar but chalked it up to her just being of the same species.” “Why ya always gotta rile up mah females? Wha’ ya say anehways?” Sen snapped as he tried to calm the bird. Taylin bristled slightly at the comment. She wasn’t thrilled at being lumped in with his pets, even if she was his female. “Sorry. I called her by her original name.” Sen just stared at Cadren before the rogue continued. “I always wondered what happened to that arrogant prick. Met Mandris a few times in Astranaar while on missions. The Horde aren’t the only ones with spies,” he smirked. “Mandris mistreated all his pets, but her especially. Always complaining about how small and useless she was. Sending her into fights that she shouldn’t have survived except for her speed and cleverness. But Mandris never saw that. When he went missing, some speculated that the idiot had gotten lost and was killed by a corrupted Furlbog or that one of his animals had finally turned on him. I always figured he’d picked a fight with the wrong Horde member. Guess I was partially right. Couldn’t have happened to a better Elf,” Cadren finished with a wicked smirk.
“Ya know, you may not be as cold as you lead others to believe. You certainly seem to have a knack for removing the worst from the world,” Taylin said with pride towards her mate. She wasn’t bothered by the death of that hunter. She had already come to terms with Sen’s past and who he was. Besides, Cadren had known the hunter and seemed fine regarding the death. Sen shrugged his shoulders, not really sure how to respond.
The sun was starting its descent over the horizon as Cadren gathered the last of his belongings. “As interesting as this has been, I really do need to get going. It’s a long flight.” He carefully tucked the whistle into a hidden pocket within his chest armor. Reaching out, he clasped Sen’s forearm in a firm shake. “Thank you for trusting me. And thank you for taking care of her. All your secrets are safe with me. You have my word.” A knowing smile passed between the two men before Cadren turned to Taylin. Pulling her into a quick hug, “Be safe. I’ll see you soon. And Tay,” he lowered his voice to a whisper, “I really am happy for you. He seems like a great guy who loves you very much. If I had to lose out, at least it was to someone like him.” Before Sen could stop him, he placed a quick kiss to her cheek. Sen couldn’t help the small growl that slipped his lips but stayed where he was. With a smirk to Sen, Cad quickly mounted Kal and took flight. He gave a final wave to the couple as he disappeared into the sky.
Sliding to Sen’s side, Taylin slipped her arm around her mate’s waist. “Don’t be jealous. You know I’m your female,” she teased. “He only did that to get a rise out of you. And because he knew he could get away with it since you’re friends now.” Giving a clipped whistle to Sekre, the bird took off into the sky, disappearing once again. Draping his arm over Taylin’s shoulders, he tucked her in close as he growled into her ear. “I’ve killed fo’ less. But I won’ kill ya elf. But if ‘e pushes too much, I will rough ‘im up a bit.” Snaking his long tongue out, he ran the tip along the inner shell of her ear. A shudder coursed through Taylin. From his tongue or his words, she didn’t know. “Just promise that if he ever does, you won’t hurt him too badly.” “I’ll try,” he whispered. It wasn’t a true promise, but it was the best he was willing to give. When it came to his mate, all bets were off and everything else came second. Turning in his grasp, she wrapped her arms around his neck, “Better than nothing I suppose.”
Smirking at his beautiful mate, he gave her ass a playful swat. “Come mate. Let’s get packed up. Dere’s someplace I wanna show ya befo’ da sun fulleh sets. An’ I dun like stayin’ in one camp fo’ too long.” Taylin quirked an eyebrow at him before doing as he asked. Soon, they had the camp cleaned up and everything stowed away into their packs which were now tied securely to Bezwen. After redonning his chest piece, Sen strapped his bow and quiver to his back. The only sign that they had been there were the cooling coals in the fire pit and the broken-down smoking rack, the wood being left for whoever used the campsite next. Gently, Sen swept Taylin up and placed her upon Bezwen before hopping into the saddle behind her. One arm wrapped securely around her waist, he kicked the raptor’s flanks, and they headed out into the Barrens.
Sen set a fast but easy pace. He didn’t want to tire Bez out in case they needed to fight or flee. Tanga followed at their side, her loping gait keeping pace with them easily. Taylin started to squirm as she searched for a slightly more comfortable position. Suddenly, Sen’s tusks slid over her shoulder, his breath warm against her cheek. “Keep dat up an’ I’ll take ya right ‘ere in da open.” She froze. She knew it wasn’t an empty threat for she could feel him pressing his hardening member into the curve of her backside. Heat bloomed across her cheeks and lower within her body. The threat causing excitement to swell within. It wasn’t fair what he could do to her. Sen not only felt the spike in her desire, but he could smell her heady arousal. He chuckled to himself. ‘This is gonna be fun,’ he thought with a wicked smirk. Dropping the reigns, he clicked a command to Bezwen. Thankfully, the raptor knew where he was going so Sen could focus solely on his deliciously aroused mate.
Leaning back slightly in the saddle, Sen drew Taylin back until she was flush against him. He tilted her hips backwards, giving him better access to the ties at the front of her pants. Momentary confusion struck Taylin before his actions caused her mind to haze over with arousal. Her head fell back onto his shoulder. Need and assertion coursed into her from the bond. She released control to him, understanding his need for her submission. The Loa, how he loved when she submitted under his hands. Fingers hastening, Sen quickly loosened her pants enough to slide his hand under the leather barrier. He cupped her warmth, already damp with desire. A soft moan made it to his ears. Taylin had turned her head, so her nose was nuzzled against the side of his neck. Her warm breath tickling his sensitive skin. Slowly, he slid a finger up her damp length, parting her folds. Another moan assaulted his senses and her tongue flicked out to lick at his throbbing artery. With a low feral growl, Sen dipped a finger into her tight passage. He used his thumb to slowly circle her sensitive clit. Taylin rocked her hips against his hand, wanting him deeper. Chuckling at his wanton mate, he obliged and slid his finger all the way to the base. There he stilled his movements. Taylin whimpered. “If ya wan’ it dat bad, den tell meh exactleh wha’ ya wan’,” Sen whispered. A teasing smirk playing across his lips. “Please, Sen,” she moaned. She tried to rock her hips, to push and pull him within, but he used his free arm to lock around her waist, halting her movements. A groan of frustration left her lips. “Tell meh wha’ ya wan,’ mate.” He flicked her clit with his thumb. Taylin gasped, “That!” she all but yelled. “This?” he flicked the swollen nub again. “Yes. Goddess yes. But harder and faster. And I want to feel your fingers moving inside me.” Taylin’s words were stammered as they tumbled from her mouth and her body trembled with need.
Nuzzling his cheek against the top of her head, he complied, “As ya wish, mate.” Taylin nearly came right then as his thumb furiously started sliding back and forth across her swollen nub and, at the same time, he slid a second finger into her. He moved them in a fast yet steady rthym. Taylin’s body shuddered as her mate pleasured her. Small gasps and mews left her lips with each thrust of his fingers. She slid a hand up and clasped his tusk while her right traced feather light caresses along his busy arm. Her breaths were becoming ragged, and Sen knew she was close. When she wrapped her hand around his wrist, he gave her clit one last flick and curled his fingers, stretching her, then pulled his hand away. She whimpered. She had been right there at the edge, and he stopped. Sen brought his fingers to his mouth and licked them clean, a growl of satisfaction reverberating in his chest. “Sen,” she whimpered and pleaded. “No fun bein’ pushed ta da edge den someone keepin’ ya from fallin’ ovah, is it love?” he said with a bit of wickedness in his voice. “But don’ worreh, mate. I’ll be takin’ care o’ ya when we get ta where we be goin’.” He moved so he could place a soft kiss to her cheek.
Taylin worked to calm her shuddering breaths and rapidly beating heart as she slumped against her mate. As much as she wanted and needed him, she knew he wouldn’t give in. She’d just have to wait until they arrived at wherever it was he was taking her. She just hoped she wouldn’t have to wait long. Feeling her give in and relax, Sen gave her hip a squeeze, “Dat’s mah girl.” His own need for his mate was almost overwhelming, especially to answer those whimpered please of hers. But this was a lesson of sorts. As the male, it was his job to care for and protect her and she had been stopping him repeatedly from doing that. Once his instincts calmed in a few weeks, it wouldn’t be so bad, but they were damn hard to control right now, and she had been constantly pushing his buttons. So even with his instincts hissing at him to please his mate, he refrained. He would make it up to her soon since they were nearly at their destination.
Having finally calmed down, Taylin spoke up, “Where are we going anyways?” Just then a small oasis of lush trees and ferns came into view. It was good timing too, because the sun had just sunk it’s final few inches behind the horizon. The area became bathed in the glow of twilight. The only light the twinkling of stars and the soft glow of the moon as it made it’s ascent. A small lake became visible as the stars refracted across it’s calm surface. Taylin released a gasp as the beauty of the oasis struck her. Grinning above her, Sen whispered, “I t’ought ya might like it ‘ere. Remind ya a bit o’ our home, plus I be figurin’ ya might be wantin’ a bath ta wash da dust n’ sweat o’ da Barrens off ya.” “Oh Sen. It’s beautiful. Thank you,” all her earlier frustrations were momentarily forgotten as her eyes roamed over the beautiful scenery.
Steering Bez to a small copse of trees near the bank, he hopped down and helped Taylin out of the saddle. Taylin stretched while Sen silently removed their packs and saddle from the tired raptor. Free from his burdens, Bez trotted to the lake to drink his fill before wading into the shallows. The water cooling and cleaning his hot dusty scales. Sloshing his way back to shore, Taylin laughed as he shook himself dry, spraying water everywhere. Bez gave her a happy chortle as he curled up in some dense undergrowth to rest. Sen had been leaning against a nearby tree as he watched the playful antics of his raptor and mate. Her crystal laughter a soothing balm to his very soul. Seeing her so at ease made him once again feel the desire to have a home with her. Not one they shared with his sister, but a home of their own. Again, he was struck by not only her beauty, but also by just how much he loved this woman. He truly had never been happier in his entire life then when she was smiling at his side.
Crouched at the water’s edge, Taylin cupped her hands and sipped at the cool crystalline water. Having her fill, she lightly splashed some water over her face and neck. Feeling refreshed, she turned, looking for her mate. She found him not too far away, leaning against a tree. His arms were crossed, and he had one ankle hooked over the other. He looked absolutely sexy as hell. But it was his eyes that stole her breath away. Ruby eyes watched her as unbridled love and passion glittered within their depths. Even in the pale light of the moon, his look was clear. Here was a man that was completely smitten and that would do absolutely anything for her. Her breath was stolen when his eyes caught hers. He’d looked at her with love before, but tonight there was something softer, something more raw in the way his eye captured hers. It was then that she realized what she was seeing. Vulnerability. He was completely open and vulnerable to her. Sure, she had a direct line to his heart and feelings, but he had finally let down every wall around him. There wasn’t a trace of his icy or commanding exterior. He revealed everything to her, his eyes a straight path to his soul. She took a shuddering breath as she slowly made her way to him.
His breath hitched as he watched his soul mate come to him. She had looked so breathtaking as the moonlight framed her against the shimmering water. She was his in every sense of the word and he couldn’t help it as his walls came shattering down around him. This beautiful creature had permeated every aspect of his very soul. When she drew close, he settled his hands on her hips and pulled her to him, her arms circling his neck. Lowering his head, he skillfully slipped his tusks around her face and captured her lips. It was a gentle kiss but held all the love he had for his mate. Taylin melted, their rapidly beating hearts falling in sync. His arms wrapped tightly around her and held her close. Their bodies flush to one another. Not one for words and not wanting to break the spell they were under, Sen carefully picked her up, coaxing her to wrap her legs around his waist. Without breaking their kiss, she complied. Gently he carried her to the water’s edge and lowered her to her feet. Pulling away, he slowly began to undress her. Inch by inch he revealed her body to his hungry gaze. Once he had pulled the last piece of clothing from her body, he stepped back to admire her in all her glory. His words left him in a breathy whisper, “Ya be da most beautiful ting I evah seen, Tay.”
Cheeks tinged with pink and heart fluttering; she gave him a heart stopping smile. When his hands came up to undo his own armor, she reached out to stop him, “Let me.” For once he surrendered to her, dropping his hands away. She undressed him just as slowly as he had her. But after each piece she removed, she placed a soft kiss to the skin revealed. Normally, by now, Sen would be fighting his instincts to claim her, dominate her. But something felt different this time. This time, his instincts agreed with him. To take it slow and show his mate all the love he had to offer. To let her set the pace, at least for now. Feeling her tug the last of his clothing down his legs, Sen stepped free of the final garment.
Without a word, Sen swept her up bridal style, a tinkling giggle falling form her lips. Laying her cheek over his heart, “And I’m the luckiest woman in the world to have found a mate like you.” Her whisper tickled the skin across his chest, and he nestled her tighter in his arms. He waded into the cool water until he was chest deep and released her. She wrapped her arms around his neck for her toes barely brushed the bottom of the lake. Circling her waist with his arms, he maneuvered her back against an outcropping of stones that were worn smooth by the water. Taylin giggled as a large turtle slid off the rocks and into the water, his quiet solitude interrupted by the lovers. Sen brought a hand up and cupped her cheek lovingly, his thumb brushing over her bottom lip. Catching his eyes, her voice was low and sultry, “Make love to me, mate.” Not wanting to deny her, he gave in. He slid his hand from her cheek around her back, cushioning her against the hard stones. His other hand trailed down her side, cupping the back of her thigh. Gently he pulled her leg over his hip. Taylin needed no further encouragement as she wrapped both her long legs around his waist. Slipping his hand between them, he tested her warm entrance. A moan broke from Taylin’s lips, “Please, mate. No more teasing. I want you. I want to feel you make love to me.” Blood heating and thickening in his veins at his mate’s pleas, he used his hand to angle himself to her tight passage. Slowly he pushed inside. When only the head of his member was seated, he stilled and captured her eyes, “Evah since dat firs’ day I saw ya in dat grotto, I wanted ta take ya like dis. Ta make love ta ya in da watah.” He finished his thoughts by rolling his hips, pushing himself fully within. Taylin bit her lip at both his words and the sensation. He filled her so deeply. Laying her head back against the rocks, she barred her throat in submission.
The Loa how he loved it when she submitted. But tonight, he had other things in mind. He slid his hand up her body and cupped the back of her head, bringing her forwards. “No, love. No submittin’ tonight. I’m jus’ as much yours as ya be mine.” Stunned. Taylin was completely stunned by his words. Her extremely dominant and possessive mate was putting her on equal footing. She gaped at him. A flash of that earlier vulnerability appeared in his eyes and Taylin’s heart skipped a beat. Then his eyes flicked over the bandage on her shoulder.
Suddenly, Taylin knew what he was doing. What he was trying to show her. In that moment, she didn’t need the bond to read him. His soul was laid bare for her just as assuredly as his body. He was scared. Scared of losing her, of letting her in too deeply, of hurting her, of pushing her too much. That maybe he had forced her. Cadren’s accusation had cut him deeper then even she had realized. He was giving her complete control. Showing her in the only way he knew how just what she meant to him. Without words or explanations, he let her in. To see all of him. Her love doubled for him in that instant. Quickly she buried her hands in his hair and dragged him to her. Crushing her lips to his. She poured her love and understanding into him, through the kiss and the bond they shared. Fate, family, factions, all of it be damned. She loved this man to her very core. His hips had stilled during her revelations, but she tightened her legs about him, pushing her hips to his. She wanted, needed, to feel that connection. To be truly one with him in body and soul.
Sen’s knees nearly buckled as her love flooded his senses. She understood and she accepted him all the more thoroughly. His little elf truly was astounding. Instantly, his body reacted to her need and hunger. He made love to his mate until they were both panting as they found their release together. Her soft sighs and moans of pleasure warming his heart. When they were both spent and their breathing mostly under control, he trailed a soft line of kisses up her neck to her ear, “I love ya, Taylin.” Her breath caught. She’d heard him say those words before, but tonight there was an added depth to them. She knew without a doubt that he would love her until the end of time and beyond if possible. She trailed her fingers through his damp hair, his glorious mohawk now laying flat along his head and neck. “And I love you, Sen’krii.” Sen’s lips captured hers once again.
Wiggling her way out from between Sen and the rocks, Taylin swam out into the clear water. Turning, Sen learned his back against the rocks as he watched his mate play and swim along the star speckled surface of the lake. He almost felt like he was back among the trees as he watched her swim in the grotto. But now she was his, and he’d just made love to her in the water. One of his fantasies had just come true. He thanked the stars above for bringing her into his life. Suddenly, she dove under, resurfacing with a handful of coarse white sand. She used it to scrub the sweat and salt from the Barrens’ heat and their lovemaking off her skin. Once her skin was clean and tinged pink, she swam back to Sen. Pulling herself up by his shoulders, she kissed the tip of his nose. “As much as I love your musky smell, aren’t you going to actually bathe?” she teased him. He chuckled as he kicked off the rocks, propelling himself out into the open water. Repeating her actions, he dove under and scooped up some sand to scrub his body with. When he was done, he dove under the water and quickly swam to his mate. A smirk crossed his lips as he came to her feet. Reaching out, he tickled the bottoms. In surprise and reflex, Taylin kicked her foot out. Unfortunately, the side of her foot caught the tip of his tusk which nicked her. Heading for the surface, Sen had an apology heavy on his lips, but Taylin beat him to it. She placed her fingers over his mouth, “Don’t. You don’t need to apologize. It was an accident.” His eyes still held worry and a small light bulb went off. “Is that what some of this was about? You still feel bad about this,” she lifted her arm and trailed her other hand along the long pink scar that ran along the side of her arm, “or now this,” she motioned to the bandage at her shoulder. He winced. Rolling her eyes, Taylin made her way to shore and sat down. “Come here, mate.” He immediately obeyed and sat beside her, leaning back on his elbows. Sighing, Taylin crawled into his lap, her legs straddling his waist. She could feel his soft member behind her start to harden at her position. Smirking down at her mate, “I’ll take care of that in a moment, but first you’re going to listen to me.” Her voice was teasing yet demanding and Sen could only nod as he watched her.
“First of all, not once have I been upset with you about this scar since the day I apologized to you. And truthfully, I’ve rarely thought about it since its healed. To me, it’s just one more thing that links the two of us. As for the bite or bruises, I bear them happily. Again, they’re just another mark that shows I’m yours. I’ve told you countless times that I love it when you lose control. And while what we just shared was incredibly special, I love all our time together. The rough and the soft. I love all of you. You’re my strong, possessive mate and I couldn’t be happier. I know you’ll never truly hurt me, so stop worrying. I’m not going to break. I thought I made that perfectly clear our first night in that tree. I want all of you. And while the bites and bruises may hurt, you’ve never actually hurt me.” She pressed her hand to her heart. “And if you’re scared that I’m going to leave you when I see my parents, then have some faith in me. I would have thought me wanting you to meet them would remove any of those kinds of thoughts. And as to what Cad said, don’t let it get to you. You’ve never forced me into anything I didn’t already want. So, get this through that thick skull of yours. You’re my mate and I’m staying by your side. I will always choose you.”
Not surprisingly, Sen was at a loss for words as he gazed up at his amazing mate. Sitting up, he trailed his hands up and down her sides and across the tops of her thighs. His mind was racing. She had picked up on each of his fears and laid them all to rest in a matter of moments.
“The Loa, woman. How’s a mon supposed ta reply ta dat?” “You could start with an ‘I love you too,’” she teased. “I’ll nevah be able ta tell ya jus’ how much I love ya, Tay.” His words were soft and sincere. Taylin rocked her hips back, feeling his partially hard manhood press against her backside. “Then how about you show me?” she grinned at him seductively. “An’ ‘ere I t’ought women be wantin’ mo den jus sex. Dat ya be wantin’ ta talk an’ share feelin’s,” he teased right back. Taylin laughed. “We both know talking isn’t exactly your thing, though you are rather good at it when you try. Actions are where your strengths lie. And I already know exactly how you feel,” she placed her hand over his heart. It was beating heavily within his chest. “Ya realleh are perfect fo’ meh,” he said with a soft smile. “I know,” she winked. “You said no more submitting tonight, right mate?” He nodded. “Den lemme be showin’ ya jus’ how perfect we be tagedda. Lemme make love ta mah mate,” she teased, mimicking his accent and speech patterns. At the same time, she had moved her hips back, his thick member pressing against her damp warmth. “Teasin’ wench,” he growled as his hands gripped her hips and helped lift her to sheath himself within her depths. He hissed when she sank all the way down his length, letting him fill her completely. Though his instincts railed at him because she was technically in the dominant position, he ignored them. Tonight, there was no dominant or submissive partner. It was about her and them. He decided to let her fully set the pace as he laid back on the cool sand and pillowed his head on his arms. Through hooded, lust filled eyes, he watched her move atop him. Her legs straining at his sides as she pushed herself up and down his length.
She wanted to hiss at him for letting her do all the work. But, truthfully, she was enjoying the power and the thrill. Every now and then a moan or a sharp intake of breath would cross his lips when she drew him in deep. She loved that it was her, and solely her, causing those reactions. Leaning forwards, she dragged her nails down his chest, earning her a delightful hiss of pleasure from him. She could both see and feel his abdominals starting to contract as he neared that edge. Bracing herself against his chest, she picked up the pace. She was nearing that edge herself. Getting an idea to help push her over that precipice, she leaned back and used one hand to brace herself on his thigh behind her. Teasingly, she trailed her other hand over her chest then down her body. Her fingers found her swollen nub and she started to stroke herself furiously.
A groan left Sen’s lips. ‘This woman,’ he thought. He nearly came right then. The sight of her pleasuring herself while she rode him was almost more than he could take. But what she did next had him growling with his release. Taylin had smirked down at her lover as she pressed her hips down as hard as she could, drawing him deeper than before. Holding him there, she clenched her inner muscles around him, her fingers never ceasing in their movements. At the same time, she clenched her abdominals to keep herself upright as she moved her hand from his leg to run her fingertips over her mate mark. Their orgasms crashed through each other simultaneously. Hers with his name in the form of a moan, and him growling as he reached out to harshly grab her hips. Spent, Taylin collapsed atop his chest. Her inner muscles still spasming around his thick shaft as he released a thick stream of his seed. Sen slid his hands up her back and held her close while their bodies calmed. He nuzzled the top of her head with his cheek, “Ya be amazin’, mate, an’ mo den beautiful.” Blushing, Taylin kissed his chest. “How do you have the energy to take control so often? I’m exhausted.” He couldn’t help but chuckle, “When it comes ta pleasin’ ya, I always be havin’ nuff energeh.” Taylin bit his chest weakly, “Show off.” This time he out right laughed and swatted her ass playfully, “Onleh fo’ ya.”
“Come on mate. Go rinse off and I’ll get camp set up. It be getting’ late an’ we have a long trip in da mornin’.” Taylin grumbled, “Just a few more minutes? My legs feel like jelly.” A warm smile played across Sen’s lips as he stroked a hand up and down her spine. “Jus’ a few, love.” Shifting her head, Taylin flicked the tip of her tongue across his closest nipple. “Keep teasin’ an’ I dun care how tired ya be, I’ll ‘ave mah way wit’ ya,” he said as he gave her ass cheek a playful squeeze. “Is that a threat or a promise?” “Both,” he grinned. “Ok, ok. You win,” she groaned. Leaning up, she gave him a quick kiss before climbing off and heading for the water. Sen took a moment to admire his mate’s backside before rolling to his feet.
By the time Taylin returned with her armor bundled under her arm, Sen had his bed roll spread out with hers tucked on top as the blanket under a tall tree, his armor and weapons propped against the tree in easy reach. He was currently debating on whether or not to start a fire. As if reading his mind, Taylin answered for him, “Don’t worry about a fire tonight. It’s still fairly warm. Besides, you run hot, so I know I’ll be fine if it starts to get cold.” She gave him a soft smile which he returned with a grin. “Den I’ll be righ’ back.” As he walked by, he purposely let the cool bone of his tusk brush along her bare shoulder. “Now who’s teasing?” she snapped playfully. He chuckled all the way to the water’s edge. Taylin placed her armor at the foot of their bed, then rummaged through Sen’s pack until she found what she was looking for. Thankfully, her skin was nearly dry as she pulled on one of Sen’s spare linen under shirts. Being out in the open, she wasn’t completely comfortable sleeping nude. Besides, she knew Sen secretly loved it when she wore his shirts. Digging through her own pack, she pulled out a small wooden comb that Kreeva had given to her for the trip.
That’s how Sen found her moments later. Sitting at the end of their bed, his shirt tucked around her, as she comed out her long damp locks. The memory of when she had come upon him as he combed his hair in the sand flashed through his mind. But now their roles were reversed. Though, unfortunately, she wasn’t naked like he had been. Although Sen didn’t think he minded. She looked damn sexy in nothing but his shirt. Not caring about sleeping nude, Sen settled himself behind Taylin and plucked the comb from her grasp. He gathered her damp hair and worked through it until the comb slipped through without resistance. Taylin couldn’t believe how relaxing it felt. Wanting to return the favor, she got Sen to turn around as she took back the comb. Calling to Tanga, she had the cat lay next to the bed so she could carefully sit atop her back. It was the only way to easily reach the top of Sen’s head without stretching up on her knees. Tanga gave a mew of indignation for being used as a stool, but she stayed put. The light weight of the elf not really bothering the large panther. Taylin was careful not to catch the comb on any of his braids as she worked through his hair. Unfortunately, it was still too damp to stand straight, but she hoped by morning his glorious mohawk would be standing tall once again. Climbing off Tanga, she thanked the cat and replaced the comb within her pack. Sen had laid down on his side, his weapons just behind his back and was holding the blanket open for her. She slid in next to him, her back pressed against his chest.
Once Taylin was tucked protectively into the curve of his body, Sen gave a loud whistle followed by a series of clicks. Bezwen cracked his eyes open and responded with a chirp. He was on first watch just like the previous night. Bez trotted a couple of yards from the couple, but kept them in sight, his senses tuned to their surroundings. Tanga sprawled out next to the bed in front of Taylin. She had second watch, but she was their immediate defense if Bezwen sounded an alarm. Taylin reached out and scratched Tanga behind the closest ear. “Thanks for always protecting us,” she whispered softly. Tanga purred in appreciation. A pouting chirp came from not too far away. Giggling, “Thank you too, dear Bezwen.” A happy chortle was her answer.
His heart warming at the soft interaction between his mate and companions, Sen couldn’t help but smile. “Ya be spoilin’ mah beasts,” he teased into her ear. Taylin couldn’t suppress her smile. “Someone has to. Besides, they deserve it for putting up with you for so long,” she teased right back. Tanga gave a mew in agreement. Sen hissed at his cat. Pulling his arm over her waist, she threaded her fingers with Sen’s, “Oh hush. We’re just teasing. We’re all family now.” Sen slid his tusks over her shoulder and placed a soft kiss behind her ear, “I love ya.” Taylin’s heart melted and she squeezed his hand. “I love you too. Night, mate.” “Good night, love.” Holding each other close, they let sleep finally claim them.
