“This is a fucking mess,” Pyre said as she read over the reports that the Tremere primogen had gotten to her only the night before. “Green could have at least given me a heads up if he wanted to do this. I would have been better prepared that way and maybe could have talked him out of it. But no…and tonight I have to explain to the council what we plan to do about this,” she sighed and Balthazar patted her hand.
“It will be okay in the end, but you should have listened to me,” he said with an amused chuckle and Pyre just glared at him. “Very well, onto what to do. The Tremere are going to be pissed because they have just lost the main haven of their clan. We need to offer them…”
“No, I’m just going to talk to Waters and make a deal. If we hear anything else on Green, we will tell them first. Well, we’ll make up a story about the real information but give them some information. Also, the Prince is a bit more on our side right now because of the information given on the Harpy. So, our asses might be a bit more saved right now than in the past,” Pyre says with a relieved sigh but didn’t believe her own words. Even though she was on good terms with both the Prince and Waters, she was still worried. If I was still alive, I think I would be having ulcers right now, she thought as butterflies in her stomach came alive. “I should get going to Elysium. Are you joining me tonight or are you going to be doing your own thing again?”
“I’m coming with you,” he says with a smile, “I’m not going to let you have all the fun.”
“Fun?! You think this is fun?!” She almost screams at him and sighs. “If you think this is fun, you need your head examined. You need to get your…” and she almost swore at him, in her own Chicago wad shd shook her head. “Fine. Come to Elysium and have your own fun.”
He laughed at her and puts on a coat, getting her trench coat. “I am not about to let you face the lion’s den alone. Also, you’ll need someone to rant to after the primogen meeting.”
“If I last that long,” she quipped at him as she too her her cane again. I just hope this is the only thing I have to deal with tonight. Oh shit! And I need to talk to Anna and Arianna about the stupid plot. Its going to be a long night, I can feel it already. She fought back a sigh and just smiled at him, and they walked to Elysium.
*~*~*~*
The room held silence as the council members all sat around the table. Of course I’m sitting right across from Waters. Last week it was luck of the draw, now I’m starting to think that it’s suppose to mean something. Perhaps with what happened last week, but still he won’t do anything against me. I’ll slaughter his reputation if he does, she thought as she smirked under her mask, not showing it to anyone else. The meeting started with the Prince talking about how the clans needed to keep updates on their numbers. If a clan grew, the lines would be redrawn or there would other methods taken. He also talked about the Harpy that was a mortal and the spy for the Sabbat, but they had reprogrammed her. Sending her back to the Sabbat in order to kill off the most of them where she had come from. But then the subject turned to the incident that happened the week before.
“Now, to what has happened. Has either clan Tremere or clan Nosferatu tried to talk this out?” The Prince asks as he leans back lazily in his chair.
“Amazing as this sounds, there has been no time to work this out during the week,” Pyre said softly and guarded her words and thoughts carefully from the Prince.
“We can work something out and not take up the precious time of this council,” Mister Waters said as Pyre turned to him in amazement. That was the last thing that she was expecting to hear.
“That is fine with me. Pyre, do you have any objections?” She just shook her head no as she looked at the man across the table from her. “Very well, meeting adjourned,” the Prince said and all stood as he did.
Alexander Waters made his way over to Pyre and whispered into her ear, “I am willing to talk right now if you are,” and she gave him a nod and he offered his arm as she took it, letting him lead her into an office room close to the main room of Elysium. “Well, Lady Pyre, what can you offer my clan in order for us to forget this matter?”
I can offer your death, Pyre thought before she spoke. “We are willing to give you an information we receive on Eric Green.”
“That alone will not do.”
“It is the best we have to offer at this time.”
“Very well, then I shall take your offer and I will speak to the Prince about not letting Mister Green into the city ever again.”
“Considering you are his seneschal now, I’m not surprised that you will. But whatever did happen to Cedric if you know.”
“He was sent to the South of France where he will be watched until he is allowed to be brought back into Camarilla structure. And if you will excuse me, I must report to my superiors.”
“You do not need my permission to leave, Mister Waters,” she said and hid the sarcasm in her voice. Nice guy, but a bit of a head trip, she thought as she stood and walked back into the main Elysium. Arianna saw her but before she could get to Pyre, Balthazar walked up to Pyre.
“Pyre, there is a new member,” he said as another set of footsteps followed by a set that were light and made not to be there.
A vampire I don’t know and a ghoul? Perhaps this is the new one that I am suppose to meet. I just have to leave soon in order to get to this meeting so that I can tell them that this is getting too much for me to handle. They might not like the end of it, but people are noticing. Especially the Gangrel, she thought as she tilted her head curiously. “So are you going to take me to him or what?”
“There is no reason for you to be brought to me when I have come up to you,” a new voice added with a rich New York accent. He held out a hand but then saw the woman before him was blind and took her hand. “I’m Jonathan Rorschach and the man behind me is my ghoul Ward. It is nice to meet you, Pyre.”
“Thank you,” she replies with a smile and a breath of relief. “It is nice to meet you as well, Jonathan.”
“Pyre, Mister Rorschach, if both of you will excuse me, there are other things I must do,” Balthazar said and left the two of them to talk to the Toreador primogen who was also named the Harpy earlier in the evening.
“Jonathan, how are you for the evening? Do you need a place of residence?” Pyre asked as she kept an ear on everything else that was going on in Elysium, including the Toreador primogen and Balthazar’s soft flirting.
“I do believe I will furnish a place in the sewers,” he said as he gently lead Pyre to a seat and sat down across from her. She could hear the soft flirting louder now, but revealed nothing on her face. “I would like to know of the hunting grounds, but I believe you were going to say something of the matter.”
“Yes, I was,” she said with a soft smile that was strained. She quickly explained the hunting grounds of the Nosferatu to him and then stood. “It has been nice meeting you, but I must go to a meeting now,” she said with another strained smile. “Excuse me,” she said and Arianna came right up to her.
“It about time Pyre. We have waited all night while you have been walking around. Are you trying to avoid us?” Arianna asked as she tightly gripped Pyre’s arm.
“Not at all Arianna, I just had clan matters to deal with first. Surely you must understand that,” she said with a smile as the Gangrel that had been helping Pyre came up and growled softly to make her presence known to both.
“Ah, yes,” Arianna said as she let go he ghe grip on Pyre’s arm as she looked over the room and saw the two Nosferatu looking over to see what was wrong. “Let’s go then,” Arianna said with a soft smile and lead the way out of the doors. “Anna is waiting for us in the room, so that is why she was not in Elysium. And she is not pleased at the moment.” Pyre just nodded and the Gangrel followed as they all walked into the room. Little did they know that behind the trio was a trio as well of obfuscated Nosferatus and Malkavian.
“Finally,” Anna said as Pyre sat down at the head of the table with the Gangrel sitting on the table right by Pyre. Anna sat to the right of Pyre behind the Gangrel and Arianna to her left. “You took your sweet time tonight Pyre.”
“Its known as clan business, Anna,” Pyre said with a bit of bite to her words. “What do you want?”
“To finalize the plans for Justinian as we wish to kill him in a week,” Anna said and moved her hands into fists as she could not stand the way Pyre acted anymore.
“You should not do this, Pyre,” the Gangrel said in a soft female voice. “He is a kind man and there is no reason to do this to him.”
“Pyre, if you don’t, how will we be able to trust you in the future? And will you take the advice of one Gangrel over your two friends?”
Pyre sighed as she thought everything over. If I do this, how do I know they won’t plan it so it looks like I was the single person who was doing it? And they are my friends, but I don’t trust Anna. I never did trust her, I was only in this to help Arianna and I have done my part. Now is a good time to get out and they only have my information which they could have gotten from anyone. I will tell them that I am out. “I’m out. You have my information, and I have done all you have asked.”
“Fine,” Anna said and nodded to Arianna, “lets go.” And the two of them left along with the obfuscated Malkavian.
The two Nosferatu, on the other hand, dropped their obfuscate and the Gangrel growled darkly at them. “Be gone Gangrel,” Balthazar’s voice rang out in the room as Pyre felt fear grasp at her dead heart. “This is a clan meeting and at last check, you are not Nosferatu.”
Pyre kept her place as Jonathan took the seat where Arianna sat. She now noticed his limp that he had. It was one that she did not notice before because of her anxiousness. The Gangrel left the trio of Nosferatu and Ward guarded the door. “Pyre, you need to step down,” was the first thing that Jonathan said.
“I understand why,” she replied softly and the two men started talking of her replacement. It came to be that Jonathan would become primogen now and that Balthazar would speak to the Prince about the plot the two Ventrue had. But they would only make Anna the one who wanted to really kill Justinian. Also, Pyre would never be allowed to be alone now in case she wished to try her tricks on killing Jonathan. But that would an act that she would never be able to try.
