When it happened....
"I didn't mean what I said, Riku. You were always more than a fucktoy. You were always more than a friend. You were always something more."
Riku raised his eyes and met Sora's gaze. That gaze was still so dark, but traces of his old Sora were becoming more apparent. There was hope in Sora's eyes now. And when Sora smiled at him, Riku felt even better.
Sora turned again to leave, but both teens gasped in terror as their path was blocked. The brown-haired man... the last of Livion's three men, stood in their path.
"I knew you would be trouble," the man growled at Sora. "Allow me to kill you now, and spare you the pof wof watching your friend die first."
The man's fist cut through the air with amazing speed, headed straight for Sora's heart before the teens had the chance to realize it. Suddenly... a sickening crunch was heard as bones were cracked and snapped, and blood splattered over Riku's face. He caught Sora as he fell backwards, and knelt down to lie him on the ground. Sora was drenched with blood, his blue eyes opened wide.
Riku looked up to see the brown-haired man looking down at him with rage in his black hole eyes. An arm was impaled straight through him. It entered through his back and exited his chest, and the hand covered in blood held the brown-haired man's heart. Sora sat up, and looked at the man in disbelief. There was an amazing amount of force behind the punch that entered the man's body, and the energy of it knocked Sora back into Riku's arms.
The brown-haired man looked down at his own heart as it beat it's last. Once the heart was still, the hand dropped it, and with another disgusting sound it withdrew from Livion's dead companion. The owner of the now-bloody arm shoved the body away from the boys. Now they saw their savior as he looked down at them with surprised green eyes that glowed even brighter than Cloud's. His silver hair was very long, and it hung down past his waist. He was tall and strong, but there was something very beautiful about him. He wore all white, much like Riku had during his stay here. But now it was covered with blood.
"I didn't know you were right there," he said apologetically. "Forgive me. I'm sorry you had to witness that."
"You did us a service," Sora said as he stood slowly. "Do you feel okay now?"
"I still feel weak, but better," the man responded.
"Riku," Sora said, turning to his friend, "You met Cloud's friend, right?"
"We did not get the chance," the man said.
But when they looked at Riku, they saw a painfully terrified look in his eyes. His eyes showed this pain, while the rest of his face remained without emotion. Tears started to stream down the sides of his very pale face. His eyes slowly turned to the heart on the floor... and he screamed. He grabbed his head and screamed, filled with pain and suffering.
"I'm so sorry..." whispered the man, his eyes filled with sadness and guilt.
Sora threw his arms around Riku, squeezing him. "Riku... Ssshhh... It'll all be okay. Sephiroth would never hurt you. He didn't mean for you to see this." He gently rocked back and forth with Riku trembling in his arms.
Squall suddenly ran in, clothed in dark red. "Come on Sephiroth! You have to help me save the others!
...And that was all Riku could remember.... He blacked out in his own insanity.
The fire crackled loudly, and all eyes were on Riku as Sora approached the fire, his eyes still looking tired from his rest.
"Sephiroth..." Riku whispered. "Is that your name?"
"Yes."
"You saved us.... Thank you."
Sephiroth nodded and put a hand on Riku's shoulder. "Go back to the fire," he said gently.
"You come as well, young one," Vincent called from near the fire. "We didn't escape only for you to freeze. Even you can feel the temperature."
Riku moved to the fire, and soon Sephiroth followed. Riku watched as he sat next to Cloud, the light of the fire hitting his features. He didn't smile, butre wre was something very serene about him. Riku would never believe that he could kill anyone if he hadn't seen him kill one of Livion's men. Sephiroth closed his eyes, and seemed to be slipping into sleep as he sat there.
"Can you still feel the drugs? Does it still hurt?" Cloud asked, sitting next to Sephiroth and gently squeezing his shoulder.
"I still feel weak... and tired. It is alright."
"So..." Sora asked curiously, "Exactly how strong are you when you're NOT hurt?"
"Just a little more," Sephiroth said with a faint smile.
"The boy is modest," Vincent said. "Livion and his men had to drug him multiple times with the same thing that would knock any of us out almost instantly. Sephiroth has inhuman strength and even more enchanted power than Aeris. He is the very reason we are not inside the castle now."
"Sora killed two of Livion's men," Sephiroth added.
The others looked at Sora for a moment when they realized that it wasn't a joke. Riku stared into the fire, remembering what Sora had done.
"I... I let the darkness have me to gain the same inhuman strength that Livion and the others have," Sora said. "I wasn't half as strong as them... but I was strong enough to kill two of them. They trusted me because no one has ever risen up against them once brought into the darkness...."
"You have more strength of heart than you know," Sephiorth said.
Riku let his gaze fall to Squall, who sat staring into the fire. He didn't seem to be feeling any pain now.
"Are you alright?" Riku asked him.
Squall looked at him for a moment before understanding. "Oh... yes. Sephiroth found me and healed me. He cast a sleep spell on Kairi nothing more. But we had to leave her there. She would have called to Livion the instant she woke up with us."
Riku nodded, then glanced to Aeris. "And you?"
"I'm okay too," she smiled. "Seph shared his energy with me."
"Is there anything you can't do?" Sora smiled.
"I don't think I can dance," Sephiroth said after a while. The others laughed at the thought of it... and then laughed even harder when they realized he wasn't joking.
Sephiroth's presence made Riku feel better. He had brought them out of the castle and restored them. He could make them laugh, and he was surrounded with an aura of tranquility. He still sat there in his blood-covered clothes, but that was all that would indicate there was any edge to him at all.
Sora pulled out a large bag of food that he had stolen from the castle on his way out. He started tossing things and people with a smile on his face. The darkness was still in him, but outside of the castle, in this serene forest, it wouldn't claim him so easily. He passed around soft bread and tender meat, then started tossing candy at people playfully. Cloud smiled as Sephiroth stared at the candy, holding it up to the light. Sora and Riku watched him curiously and he slowly unwrapped it and ate.
"This is nice," he said with a small smile.
Aeris giggled. "Haven't had much candy, have you?"
"No, but sometimes people gave me some when I visited their villages. They seemed to be happy I was there."
"What kind of place are you from?" Sora asked.
"Seph is a general in the military. He's very famous, but he doesn't seem to realize how much," Cloud said, a hint of sadness in his voice. "He never had a life of his own. And no childhood. He was in training and under military supervision since he was born...."
Sephiroth's green eyes looked to Cloud, who sat there staring into the fire. Cloud turned to him, a serious look on his face. It was obvious that Cloud didn't want Sephiroth to be a part of ser service anymore. When the two young men looked back to Riku and Sora, they could seem them trying to calculate something in their heads. Sephiroth and Vincent looked the oldest, but they couldn't be more than mid- to late twenties at the very most.
"Hey Vincent, how old are you?" Sora asked, realizing that Vincent always referred to people as 'young one.' He guessed that Vincent was probably just doing it to be friendly, like a big brother.
"I've lost track," Vincent said, staring up to the sky. "Perhaps around sixty now."
Riku and Sora stared at him for a moment, then looked around as the others nodded.
"You're serious?!" Sora exclaimed.
Vincent smiled. "We all have odd stories here, Sora. It would take forever for all of us to explain what has happened to us."
They all sat around the fire talking and laughing. Riku gathered from their conversations that Sephiroth killed many people on his way out of the castle, and that he restored everyone as much so they could to escape. And with Aeris' help, he cast a large spell called "Ultima," and destroyed a large part of the castle with the soldiers' quarters and electrical systems according to Vincent's instructions. Of course, this distracted Livion and most of his men, as many of them were killed, and the cameras and alarms were turned off. Then the group ran... and ran... and ran. They ran far into the nearby forest until Sora said that Livion would no longer be able to track them psychically. Vincent had transformed with what energy he had and carried Riku here.
Apparently Sephiroth was unconscious and injured for most of his stay, because Livion knew he was a danger.
"We have to figure out a plan, and then go back," Squall said. "There might be more prisoners who need theieedoeedom."
"As long as Riku lives, it will all work out," Sephiroth nodded.
"As long as I live?" Riku asked, looking to them both.
"Yes. You are the keyblade master," Sephiroth said.
"Keyblade?"
"You are not aware? I'm not surprised," Sephiroth said, taking a bite of food before continuing. "You saw the crystal door, correct?"
"Yes. Livion showed it to me. He killed three of my friends by pushing them through."
"That door leads to othorldorlds. But without the proper power, you can't move from world to world. Most people would enter and fall into the abyss of darkness. But you are the chosen one... the one who holds the keyblade in his heart. You have the power to seal the doors of worlds."
"I've never seen this keyblade. I don't have any special powers."
"It is there. That is why Livion was so intent on torturing you. I would overhear him speaking with his companions when they thought I was unconscious. He said you did a partial sealing on the door, so he can no longer pass to other worlds and bring people to this dark place."
"I don't remember..." Riku said, closing his eyes and trying to think. He thought he passed out after Selphie had been forced through the door.
Sephiroth stared at him for a moment. "Do not think too hard about it now. You need your rest."
"Sing for them again, Seph," Aeris said with a smile.
"What song is it that you sing?" Vincent asked.
"A song of the Ancients," Sephiroth responded. "Aeris taught it to me. It is supposed to soothe the heart and keep the life energy flowing smoothly. Everyone please rest."
~~~~~~~~~~
Livion stared down at his fallen comrades, his dark eyes holding a piercing black fire. They were all covered with dark, thick blood, and their deaths were slow and painful. Kairi stood behind Livion, a deep fear growing within her that Livion would explode with anger at any moment. A deep growl slowly escaped him, like a large animal hiding in the shadows, growling low enough for the sound to blend in with the wind. A group of large men gathered in the room to clean up the mess. Kairi could tell that Livion was moments away from ripping heads off as the men removed the large members from the dead men's throats. They needed to be removed for dignity's sake... but what dignity did they have left? The only one left with his manhood was the one whose heart was lying far from his body... a deep hole in his chest.
"The"They escaped," he growled. "Did they think they could get far from me?!"
But Kairi heard the pain and worry in his voice, and she could feel why. The dark powers in this place diminished when all four of the men were no longer present. Livion's dark power was all that was sustaining the evil hanging over this p. W. Without the other three he would be weaker.
"How did that boy resist?" he said, more to himself than to Kairi. “I felt the power in his heart. He was filled with darkness... it consumed him... he embraced it. None have fought back after they were taken. Thousands have resisted, but once they fell, they fell for good. And no one ever became powerful enough to make a dent in our bodies. I must say that I have greatly underestimated this boy."
The bodies were moved out of the rooms and more men came in to clean up the blood. Livion stared out of the window for a moment before growling again and rushing out of the room. Kairi ran behind him as he made his way to the courtyard. He had dozens of his strongest men summoned and assembled.
"Find them!!!!" Livion roared. "I want them all back alive!" And then a dark shadow crept over his face. "Or rather, return the two with silver hair and green eyes to me. Make the others suffer! Torture them to death! And I want proof of their demise! Now go!"
Horses and small speeding vehicles whizzed past Kairi, and she watched as the men headed off towards the forest areas that surrounded the castle. She frowned at the fact that she wouldn't be able to take part in the slaughter. She turned to see Livion transforming into his demonic form. He expanded his wings once before letting them pull his massive body into the air. He flew off for the forest, intending to do some damage of his own.
~~~~~~~~~~
Sora woke up to the sound of birds around him. He opened his eyes to see the green trees and blue sky that was speckled between the massive leaves and pine needles. All of the colors in this forest seemed muted... as if the evil from Livion's castle had drained them. He shifted on the soft grass and sat up to look at the others. It was well into the afternoon, and Vincent was talking to Squall. It was an odd sight seeing the two most stoic and silent men in the group chatting away, but they were making plans about fighting Livion or going back to the castle, as usual. Aeris and Riku were still sleeping. Aeris had her energy to recover from so much spell casting, and Riku... just needed to recover. Sora looked over to see Cloud sitting on top of Sephiroth, who was lying on his stomach with his arms folded under his head. Sora smiled at looked at Cloud curiously.
"He needs his rest," Cloud said to Sora. "If I get up from this spot he'll try to go for a two hour long jog or ask for a mission briefing or something."
"There is no one here to give me a briefing," responded Sephiroth.
"But you'd ask for one if there was!" snapped Cloud.
Sora laughed and got up to stretch. The dark haze in his mind was slowly dissipating, but it was still there. He frowned and glanced over to Riku, who looked so content in his innocent sleep.
"Riku has been through so much...." Sora said sadly. "If Livion tried to take the keyblade from him now, he might not be able to hang on to it."
"It will be alright if you protect him then," responded Sephiroth.
"Didn't I just tell you to close your eyes and shut up and slee--" Cloud stopped speaking and looked up. Sephiroth's attention was also caught by something, and they both seemed to be listening to their surroundings. The others watched them intently, noticing their shift. The two men got up and stared in the direction of the castle.
"They are coming for us! How are they moving so fast?!" Cloud yelled. "We have to keep moving!"
Sephiroth ran over and scooped Aeris into his arms. She stirred slightly, but didn't wake. Riku, on the other hand, jumped up suddenly, ready to run.
The group dashed through the trees, with Sephiroth in front and Cloud taking up the rear. The two had enough strength to move much, much faster on their own, but they would never leave the others. Vincent was too weak to be able to fully control his transformation now, so he remained as a man. And the others simply weren't infused with the type of power they had.
Suddenly Sora cried out and stopped running. "Go!" he yelled. "Go without me! Livion will find you through me. I can hear his voice again...."
"Then we will have to run far enough where he can no longer hear!" yelled Squall.
"It's too late! If they find Riku then we're doomed, right?! Livion will open the door again, kill us all, then take more people!"
"Sora," Vincent called back, putting a hand on Riku's shoulder. "Do you honestly think that Riku will be able to hold on to the keyblade with you gone? He's already crumbling no matter how hard he tries! The boy needs rest, but he is getting none!"
Sora looked to Riku, who only stared at him with sad eyes. Riku was dying inside, but he was trying so hard to fight. Sora couldn't bare to see that look, and he nodded and kept running. They all ran again, straight through the forest. Eventually Aeris woke up and started to run on her own, keeping pace with Squall.
"An exit!" Aeris called out, looking towards a light up ahead and a break in the trees. "Run there, but be careful on the way out!"
Sephiroth headed for that direction, with all of them following. He was far ahead of everyone when he broke out of the forest. They watched him stop suddenly upon exiting.
"What do you see?!" yelled Cloud.
Sephiroth turned around to face them... with around a dozen drugged darts piercing his chest. "Back..." he said, pulling out the darts as he slowly started to sink to his knees. "Go back.... Keep Riku safe...!"
Cloud ran to him and held him up. "You're coming with--" He looked over Sephiroth's shoulder to see hundreds of Livion's guards surrounding them. "No.... NO!" he turned to face the others. "Another fors...s.... We ran out of one and straight to another!"
The others slowly approached Sephiroth and Cloud to see that they did, indeed run straight to another castle. And Livion's flag hung in the air....
Riku fell to the ground, his hand over his heart.
"Riku?!" Sora called out, running to his friend.
"I'm... sorry...." Riku murmured. "I'm sorry...."
Sora heard dark laughter behind him and turned around slowly. The demon Livion stood behind them, a large, blade-like key in his hand.
"You have failed!" Livion laughed. "Now your hope is forever gone from this place!"
"The key went to Livion!" Aeris cried out.
Sephiroth slowly stood and tried to charge at Livion. But a swarm of ice crystals from the demon rained down on him, shredding his skin. The others screamed around him, the hail showering down on them as well. The hail only stopped once Livion's men surrounded them and started to pull them off in different directions. When Sora tried to run to RIku he found the silver-haired teen was gone.
"Riku!!!!" he cried out. "RIKU!!!!"
He heard Livion's distant laughter, and looked up to see the flying demon taking his friend away.
"NO!" Sora cried out, trying to run in the same direction. But Livion's men caught him and pulled him off into some remote part of the forest. They were going to kill them all this time.... Separate them and kill them all....
The last person he saw as they pulled him away was Sephiroth, still up and fighting fiercely, despite the drug that was overtaking him.
"Cloud!" he heard Vincent yelling. "It's the Mako in Sephiroth's body! It's making the drug worse!"
Sora was pulled off through the forest and thrown to the hard ground.
"You seemed to like fucking so much before, we thought we'd give you another chance at it," laughed one of Livion's men.
Sora yelled out as his blood red clothes were stripped off. He was flipped onto his stomach, and with his dark power diminished, he couldn't fight them as they held him down. But his body was still strong enough to the point where he didn't cry out when the first man sank into his body. Inch after inch was stuffed into Sora's anus, and the man pumped away at him mercilessly. The other men laughed and grew more excited at the sight, and soon they were all using him... one by one... like cars on a train.
They were prepared to go on forever, but a great explosion floored themhe fhe forest suddenly started to flicker with light, and then a blinding explosion engulfed the area. Sora had seen this before... it was the Ultima spell.
"Sir!" a guard yelled, running through the forest to meet the other men. "It's Sephiroth. He cast some sort of suicide spell on himself, taking most of our force with him on the way to the castle."
He cast Ultima on himself?! Sora thought, eyes wide.
"Where is he?!" roared the man who had raped Sora first.
"We found none alive, sir! All those at the center of the blast were killed. Everyone at the edges of the blast is dying slowly."
"Livion wanted Sephiroth alive!" yelled the first man. He turned to Sora, who lie bleeding on the ground, covered with the stickiness of his attack. "Chain him to the tree. We'll come back for him once this is figured out!"
Sora narrowed his eyes as the men chained him up to the tree. They chained him so that he was facing the rough bark... so that he was vulnerable to any attack or abuse from behind. Sora began to burn with hatred and anger once more... and the dark haze in his mind and heart started to grow... bigger... and bigger....
And then, he felt the delight in Livion's mind, and he knew that Riku was in trouble. He felt the rage and lust in Livion's soul, and he thought he could almost hear his friend’s tortured screams.
I told you I wouldn't let the darkness touch you! Sora cried out in his own mind. The anger blazed inside of him as he started to pull at the chains. I told you they wouldn't hurt you anymore! Sora growled loudly and as soon as the men left him, and he broke through the chains. He turned around, his eyes dark and filled with hatred. He clothed himself quickly and ran off into the forest.
~*~*~*To be continued*~*~*~
(You guys didn’t really think I’d kill Sora like that, did you? HA! Gotcha! Anyway, personally I didn’t think much happened in this one. But every once in a while you need a transitional chapter… and yes, it is going somewhere, I promise. I’m getting reviews and emails telling me how much the cliffhangers are destroying lives, so I’m literally starting a new chapter as soon as one is posted! (I tried to take the cliffhanger thing easy on this chapter… I think.) Oh yes, and if you happen to be online when a chapter first goes up, give me a minute to fix all the html codes before you read… otherwise you‘ll get confused!)
