Couldn´t bring myself to post the chapter I originally had written...I fought with myself but ultimately I lost...maybe that will be better in the end..so let´s make a leap forward and the chapters I had opted to go there before, will be delivered as a flashback..or rather several.
We reached Chorrol in the morning. Kzzhar still didn´t want me to just march into the Priory. Maybe he was right that they would not believe me about all the things that had been going on and that I forgot about the amulet and just remembered after the flashback I had.
It had been what...months?...since the emperor died and now I was going to deliver the amulett, yes it clearly would look suspicious. But write that up to my dumb nature that I couldn´t stall it further and had to deliver the jewelery.
We still traveled mostly by foot, as the big, dark red argonian brute Khzzar is, it was understandable that he didn´t like it very much to ride horses. Most animals went into a bit of a panic when they smelled and saw him.
The guard at the gate told us that the priory was on the other side of the city, near the stables. After the journey we had behind us the short walk was not too straining but it still didn´t keep my companion from grumbling and hissing, but that´s just how he is.
We were both oogled a bit strangely when we reached the buildings and sent the horses in the priorys own stable into a panic. Khzzar clearly had still his air of a dangerous predator around him and somewhere a youth was cussing when bleaking sheeps ran over a fence and went into a vegetable patch, still don´t know what we could do about that smell of his.
One of those 'brothers' like those monks call themselves held us up and asked what we wanted and as I told him we wanted to talk to Jauffre about something concerning the amulet of the kings..
The monk told us to just enter the house and go upstairs to meet Jauffre.
He was a bald older human and quite direct which might look unfriendly to some.
After his "Enter" he looked us up and down, sitting behind his desk but getting up as we walked up to him.
"What do you want"
Yes, in a fitting tone. Khzzar just stood behind me, arms crossed over his chest and as I could imagine, glaring down at the human.
"Well I...the emperor told me to find you..." and he interupted me
"What, the emperor, when? Explain yourself, he is dead since months"
"Well I was there when he died and he said I should give you the amulet"
Only the surprise of my first statement about I was there when the emperor died gave me the chance to finish, but as soon as I told him about the amulet he seemed affronted and turned a darker shade of pink like humans do when they...well I think with him it was because of anger...
"What! You are lying, no one except the emperor can carry the amulet. And why do you come to me after months! Nearly half a year since his death. I should send for the guards to throw you in prison for your lies"
No he didn´t shout but it was close and Khzzar didn´t like it who stepped beside me and growled angrily "You pity little human call us liers? Show him the amulet"
He kept himself in check, but his display toned Jauffrey down a bit.
As I retrieved the amulet I think..that toned him down much more. I didn´t know humans could turn such an argonian shade of red and green or have this chameleon like abilities to change colour.
Maybe he didn´t like the display of me getting the amulet from its hiding place, hunched over..with the squelching wet noises and me grunting and ..yes it wasn´t so easy for myself too.
I gagged and later Khzzar told me even he turned away for a moment because it wasn´t so nice to watch, but appereantly Jauffrey couldn´t avert his eyes and as I straightened up and held the slimy amulet in my hand for him to grasp...he didn´t look good either and went to his desk, taking a big gulp from a bottle, rummaging through the drawers and going to me with a cloth in my hand to take the jewelery from me, looking disgusted and paler than before.
"By the Nine, it really is the amulet, so many people came here claiming to have the amulet and showing me some faked garbage that I lost hope to ever see it again" cleaning it while he spoke in awe but soon turned to us again.
"You had something to do with his death?" with a metallic clang the amulet was deposited on the desk and he took a stance, sword in his hands which had been hidden behind his robes.
I backed up a bit, trying to explain what happened and he seemed to roll my words over in his head when there was a commotion and the door behind us bursted open, guards with drawn weapons rounding up on us.
All I could do was held onto Khzzars arms who glowered at the people around us. Seems the monks we asked for directions alarmed the guards and with the amulet we brought it did not look so good for ourselves.
We were whisked away to prison faster than we could bleep..somehow I should have expected that...Khzzar did who gave up his dagger and gear rather unwillingly.
"You have a knack for trouble" he murmured when we sat on the straw matress in a cell deep in the bowels of the castle.
He wasn´t angry at me, rather found it amusing, at least yet while there were no direct charges spoken against us and we were imprisoned until further investigations had taken place.
"Yeah, but I had to deliver it and no matter how we would have done it, do you think it would have not got us some trouble?"
"No, not really" he said in his deep rumbling voice, stitting behind me and I leaning against his chest.
"But it was rather funny to watch him while you digged for the treasure" and he really snickered which I think was a first
"Why are you so calm about it? Thought you would blow up like the last times?"
"Well featherhead, if I learned one thing while travelin with you, the gods have some strange humours concerning you and no mater how umpa it looks, you come out clean after all"
"Let´s hope my string of cursed luck doesn´t rip now...so what do we do?"
"Guess we sleep, we have been up all night and we can not do anything better while here...in this cell"
"Think you are right" I mumbled, moving around so I lay sideways against him..he wouldn´t ever say that we cuddled or snuggled against each other, but that was what we did..yes I trust him absolutely even when he is more than a bit scary most times.
So there was nothing better to do than sleep, and this is what we did, feeling rather safe here behind the bars.
So, any guess where it has been?
