Einao’s execution had been performed some hours ago and yet Caellia had only recently been able to calm down enough for sleep to take over. Goryn watched her sleep fitfully for a few minutes before calling for an elven elder and requesting that the elf spell her into a deep restful sleep. He watched as the elf deftly cast the spell and Caellia’s fitful tossing calmed immediately. He nodded gratefully at the elf who simply smiled lightly and left the tent, Caellia had absolutely refused to sleep within the castle. Goryn watched Caellia for a few minutes more before stepping outside and sending a female prophet inside to watch over her. He was going to see just what Nathavin had been up to. His men had located Nathavin’s personal chambers, which amazingly included a library, and he intended to know all there was to know about his enemy.
Goryn’s impression of the first room did not entirely match his impressions of the dark elven Lord. The room would never be called extravagant, but it was tastefully arranged, albeit in a dark and foreboding way. It was also very large, easily twice the size of his own in Oren. It contained a sitting area, and a very large fire pit was located in the center of the room. The main chamber which housed the bedroom was off to the left of the fire pit in the center of the room, and although he could see slightly inside the room, he bypassed it in favor of the private library located to the right of the fire pit.
The library was also dark and mysterious looking with dark grey walls. The shelves the scrolls were stacked on were very dark grey and simply made of bare metal. There were several sections on many different types of magic, as well as a great deal many on different fighting techniques. He ignored most of these, they were simple manuals and instructions and the like. He was looking for war documents, something he could use defending his castle against Nathavin when the dark Lord came looking for Caellia.
Walking over to the desk he spied a scroll that was placed off to one side of the others, as if to keep it from becoming lost. It was extremely old by the looks of it. Goryn walked to the desk and sat down in the heavy ornate chair and took a moment to look at the layout of the scrolls on the desk. Yes, that one scroll had been singled out and kept separate. He took a quick glance at the other scrolls. They were all plans of defense or attack, the defense of Goddard and the attack of Oren. Spying the date at the top of the scroll penned in Nathavin’s own handwriting; Goryn deciphered the odd language with some difficulty and realized that Nathavin had been well prepared when he took Caellia. Had his initial attack failed he would have brought a heavy force against Oren, complete with siege golems. Obviously the dwarves didn’t care who paid them as long as they got their adena. He quickly deposited all the pertinent scrolls in a large satchel and looked at the one scroll he hadn’t yet looked at.
The scroll was just so out of place he had to inspect it. As Goryn read the scroll his hands began to shake. The marriage contract between the daughter of Lord Erenor and Lord Amaldrin son was still valid, because Lord Amaldrins’ son was still alive! Lord Nathavin Despana was actually Lord Nathavin Rilynmitore! The question now was what did Nathavin intend on doing? He obviously knew about the contract. As a matter of fact, judging from the age of the scroll he likely had known of the contract well before Goryn had. Why had he not used it to his advantage? Goryn sighed and pocketed the scroll along with the others. If it wasn’t here, Nathavin couldn’t prove his true lineage and thus would not be able to bring the contract up before the five other castle Lords and legally take Caellia away from him. He frowned, Caellia must never know of this scrolls existence. Standing up, he headed back toward the base camp where Caellia slept. He wanted to be near her. She meant so much to him and he could not bear to be apart from her any longer than was absolutely necessary.
Caellia sighed softly in her sleep as he entered the darkened tent. He quietly knelt beside her and gently and softly ran his fingers through her long hair before settling a few short paces from her on his own makeshift bedding. Tomorrow he would send a swift footed scout to the castle with orders to prepare the castle for the marriage ceremony.

Dawn broke the following day with another amazing display of deep hued colors of red, orange and gold. Caellia was watching with rapt attention, it was as if life had begun anew for her. Almost as if Eva herself was hinting to Caellia of the good fortunes to come. She deeply breathed in the early morning air and closed her blue eyes and simply took time to feel her surroundings. A light smile and a giggle burst forth as she sensed his presence behind her. “Morning Goryn.”
Goryn had been watching Caellia as the sun rose, the sight that had greeted him when he had come to see her on the small hill had taken his breath away. There before him had stood a beautiful sight. Caellia stood on the top of the hill and looked over the valley below as her newly repaired armor lightly fluttered in the early morning breeze.
After finally finding his voice Goryn replied huskily, “Good morning Caellia.” After a slightly awkward pause as he simply took in the sight of her again as she continued to face the sun he continued, “Did you sleep well?”
Caellia turned and faced him fully with a brilliant smile on her face, “I slept better than I have in ages Goryn.” She stepped closer to him, “I missed you and never gave up hope that you’d come for me.”
“Caellia I will always come for you.” They stood on the hill for several minutes in silence until a gladiator in brilliant blue armor came up the hill to inform Goryn that the encampments had been broken and they were ready to make their way back to Oren.

Nathavin did not allow them to rest the striders long and was pushing them back towards Goddard well before daybreak. They rode without stopping for several long hours and finally reached the castle a little after the sun had reached its highest point.
The castle had been damaged badly. The most damage seemed to be concentrated on the main gates and the walls immediately surrounding them. Nathavin’s face contorted into a fearsome scowl as he stormed through the castle looking for his brother. He met both Naldorl and Kattath in the hallway leading to his personal chambers. The look Kattath sent him did not improve his mood at all. His worthless brother immediately knelt before him in shame. Nathavin silenced Kattath with a warning look before asking his brother in a snarling tone, “What happened here?”
“I have no excuse brother.” Naldorl shook slightly under his older brothers’ fierce gaze even though he could not see his face. He knew that his only chance of survival was to tell the truth and hope Nathavin didn’t decide to kill him. “I was not prepared for the force Goryn would bring. I had no idea he would engage the help of the dwarves to bring the walls down so quickly.”
Nathavin was about to reply when Kattath gained his attention. “My Lord, a more urgent matter needs your attention.” She wasted no time in explaining, “Goryn inspected the library and took several scrolls, including the ancient one regarding your parents.”
“Get me a fresh strider and assemble the remaining forces! We will follow Goryn and attack him on the road.” Nathavin thundered to Naldorl. Before Naldorl had traveled ten paces away Nathavin’s icy voice stopped him cold, “If you fail me again, brother, it will be the last time.”
Kattath watched Naldorl twitch at the deadly threat in Nathavin’s words before he disappeared to do as he had been bid. Turning back around, she followed Nathavin into the library as he searched for any sign of the scroll. She watched in silence as he finally gave up and acknowledged her presence with a look. “What are your intentions regarding Caellia?” She bluntly asked. The way he’d been treating the young silver ranger shouldn’t have bothered Kattath but it did. She had spent the most time with the young elf and had come to like her. She also knew that deep down Nathavin felt something for the ranger as well. She had seen it in his eyes before he left. The way it bothered him when Caellia had refused to come to the dining hall, although Nathavin himself thought no one knew.
There was also another reason that Kattath knew he had feelings for the girl, she had the rare gift of ‘sight’, the ability to ‘see’ what others felt. It was an extremely rare gift and there was no way to train it. There were those who simply had the gift and couldn’t control it, and those who could. Kattath was one of the few who could control it. She knew that she had no hope of convincing him that he was falling in love with Caellia, but she might be able to use logic to get him to ease up a little on the girl that would give him some additional time to see for himself that he loved her.
Nathavin watched Kattath as she faced him without flinching. “My intentions toward the Princess are my own.”
“Your current intentions toward the Princess are going to put us in a war on two fronts Nathavin. How long do you think we can last against both the humans and the light elves?”
“We can and will last until we destroy them. Goryn has limited resources.” Nathavin rumbled back.
“That’s right, Goryn has limited resources. What if he pools those resources with the other Kings?” Kattath pointed out with devastating accuracy. She leaned closer to the desk, “Nathavin, why do you wish to destroy the light elves so much? The scroll Goryn now has shows that they were willing to create peace between us once before. Why can’t we do that now?”
“That was in the past and under my father’s rule! They have not shown any semblance of allowing peace to spread between our people since, and neither will I.” He was cut off as she angrily rounded on him.
“That is because the truth has been hidden from them! Caellia obviously has no idea what happened in the past and you are continuing to hide the facts from her just as her own people have done! We don’t even have all the facts regarding what prompted that peace treaty to begin with! All we have is one scroll that speaks of the assassination of two Lords. There own Lord was killed as well as our own. Someone obviously did not want our two races to reunite Nathavin and they have succeeded thus far. The question is why.” Kattath met his angry gaze fully, “You owe this to your father Nathavin. Find out why he made that treaty before you destroy Caellia and her people. You still haven’t given me one solid reason as to why it is that you wish to destroy them.”
Nathavin stood up behind his desk and glowered at her. Time for a history lesson he thought to himself. “Many ages ago, at the time when the elven race as a whole first fell to the humans, our ancestors insisted that we fight to regain our supremacy that we had lost to the humans, even if this meant our learning dark magic. The light elves, tree elves they called themselves at the time, shunned this idea. When they discovered that a few of our ancestors had learned the black magic, they feared we would attack them using the new power we had attained and cursed our ancestors. Our lands are rotten and constantly decaying because of that curse, while their lands remain pristine and pure. They betrayed us Kattath. Our own brethren betrayed us and destroyed our lands. This knowledge is no longer taught to our young ones, but it was taught to me by my father’s friend who took me in. I have hated the light elves ever since I heard the story.” He looked on her face, searching for some sign of understanding from her.
Kattath quietly looked at him before stating calmly, “But according to the scroll, they were the one’s who initiated the peace talks. Again, why?” They both stared silently at one another as the sounds of the rest of Goddard’s forces could be heard gathering in the courtyard in preparation for battle once more.
