That was a pretty cruel cliffhanger, so I had to update soon, and here it is. The explanation chapter, and the answer to the big question.
Chapter 14- Destinations and proclamations.
Time: Francesca and Geralt stepping out of the portal.
Geralt and Francesca stepped out of her portal, they were on a boat landing, not far from the battle,
"Geralt look!" Francesca shouted, pointing at Falka's tower.
The air was shimmering in a bubble around it and the sky was cracking open like a portal.
"What's happening?"
"The gates between the world's is open, the conjunction will begin again... I can't believe it."
"FUCKING SAGE!" Geralt shouted.
"Well excuse me..." Francesca said.
"Not you... but these are my Avallac'h, he must be making Ciri do this."
"SHIT! We must stop them."
"But you're hurt!" Geralt exclaimed.
"So? I'm also an elf but that also makes no difference right now. It's my duty as Queen to protect my world, that reason and because we obviously cannot let Avallac'h open the gate with Ciri... That's obvious." She elaborated in a 'well, you know...' voice.
"Let's go," Geralt said.
"Yes, let's, and I'll be fine."
"Good, we gotta get to the tower, can you teleport us there?"
"Close, but not in it.." She said and opened a portal. They entered and when they exited they were surrounded by monsters.
"Shit," Geralt exclaimed.
She cast a spell that put a magic shield around them then blasted all the nearby monsters with lightning.
"Come!" She said to him and started running toward the tower. When they got out of the monster field, they got to a cliff side that looked like it was being taken by the white frost.
"Come!" Francesca shouted, charging ahead through the storm slowly, her spell keeping them safe, twice they had wild hunt hounds attack them but she blew them off the cliff easily, when they got the tower Francesca commented.
"It's a magic barrier..."
"Can you dismantle it?" Geralt asked.
"Maybe, but this will be easier." She said and cast a spell with an incantation, a tear appeared and she told him to go.
"Give that bastard my heartfelt regards!" She called to him, he nodded and trudged up toward the tower, when he got there he saw Avallac'h twirling his arms like a stripper and a magic field.
"Geralt... so unfortunate, I'd hoped you wouldn't have to witness this." He spoke, lightly.
"Where's Ciri?" He asked, dangerous and fed up.
"Nearby, listen..."
"Shut up, I've heard enough of your bullshit, draw your weapon, let's get this over with." Geralt said, gripping the sword Gaetan gave him.
Avallac'h did, but then shook his head and threw it aside.
"Think I'm gonna believe that?" He spoke
"Will you believe me?" A voice called from a far, Ciri...
"Avallac'h truth, hr helped me open the tower, because I wish to enter it." She said, serious.
"Why the hell would you do this? The Wild Hunt's been defeated." Geralt said to her, sincere.
Ciri turned away and after a moment she said: "The white frost has not." In a hard voice.
"The prophesies are true, I have seen worlds bound in ice, I know what awaits you..." Ciri called.
"Only the Elder Blood can stop the white frost, only I can stop it." She finished.
"You don't have to make this sacrifice," Geralt said to her.
"You're wrong, the white frost is inevitable, it will come to freeze the worlds one after the other. Eradicating all life."
"Only I can stop the destruction, I've given it much thought, and I've made my decision." Ciri concluded.
Geralt shook his head and said: "There's got to be another way."
"What do you know about saving worlds, silly? You're but a witcher." Ciri mocked to him.
Silence...
"This is my story, not yours, you must let me finish telling it." Ciri told him, then turned away to walk back up the steps.
"Don't do this, to me... please." He called after her, and Ciri stopped and looked back.
FLASHBACK!
Ciri watched as Triss battle Caranthir, her first trick was nice, the lightning got Caranthir hard... But it didn't go well for her after that, she got pushed off balance, then set herself up perfectly for a heavy kick to the chest... And she went flying, and she didn't look in good shape.
"NO!" Ciri screamed in her mind, and out loud, she flashed away and appeared right above Triss, landing on her and immediately teleporting away again... They hit the ground hard again, not doing Triss any favor, except for the fact she's alive.
Ciri quickly got up, readying herself to face Caranthir, she had to defeat him, if she lost both of them would die...
"I have to win, for Triss, and for Geralt." Ciri thought to herself, determined. She couldn't blink away and leave Triss, she had to wait until Triss got herself back together and got up, if she could...
"Triss... You have to get up!" Ciri said as she dodged a swing from Caranthir who appeared right in front of her.
Triss seemed to get herself together, she groaned and raised a shield around herself and tried to get up... She couldn't, it hurt like hell. She couldn't fight, but she could at least defend herself with a barrier allowing Cirilla to battle Caranthir without worrying about her getting picked off.
Ciri sighed and blinked away to put space between Caranthir and her, Caranthir dissapeared and appeared behind her, swinging, she ducked and slashed at him across the chest, he snarled and dissapeared again. If Ciri would go on offense it would be almost useless because of their size differences, and the relative smallness of her sword, clings could be heard as he would parry her sword... it was frustrating, but her endless supply of strength from the Elder Blood kept her stamina up, and eventually she would get hits off after he swings and misses her.
Triss got a great idea, while trying to get up on her feet, underneath her magic barrier, she held up her palm and used her signal spell. She couldn't help Ciri, yet, but she could signal for help from the other sorceresses. She kept up the spell for a while.
Ciri jumped back from a wild swing from Caranthir, she blinked and appeared behind him, he blocked and she blinked again, to his left side and attacked, he dissapeared and she did too, swinging upwards with her sword before he even showed up... Knowing where he would show up, when she did he got sliced across the shoulder and face and stumbled. Seeing this, Ciri charged at him and stabbed at him, he blocked by shoving the tip of his staff toward her... The two weapons met and a blast of energy exploded outwards, knocking them both back... Injuring Ciri, and destroying Cranthir's staff, she was on the ground hurting, he recovered from the shock and walked over to her.
"Almost... Zirael *huff*... Almost." He panted and reached down to grab her neck, right before he did though she dissapeared in a green flash.
"Ysgarthiad!" He cursed. (It means SHIT.)
Ciri appeared next to Triss and teleported them away.
That's when the witcher managed to break out of his frozen figure and jump down to battle the tired out Caranthir, little did he know that he was taking sweet revenge for his lover...
The sorceresses never came to assist them, even after Caranthir's spell had been stopped, they had not lifted a finger.
Ciri looked at Geralt and said: "Mulled wine, a tavern, our boots drying over a fire, I'd like nothing more."
She passed.
"But I can't, I must try, for you, for Triss, Yen... Everyone." She finished and waited for a few moments.
"Keep your fingers crossed," she said and turned to walk into the tower.
With a warping sound she was gone, a heartbroken Geralt left behind, frowning.
Ciri appeared on the world of the white frost, ready to give herself to stop it, but suddenly the memories came pouring back in... The memory of Ciri and Geralt playing in the snow outside Kaer Morhen, the memory of trashing Avallac'h's work shop with Geralt, the memory of defending Skjall's name and his grave, giving him a proper burial and respect, the memory of Geralt giving her the courage and confidence in herself, and showing his trust in her and encouraging her to talk to the Lodge alone, the strength and self-assurance she felt in that moment... It all came back on her hard, and she paused, thinking about all the people that love her, what and most of all who she is leaving behind... With a thought of decision, she pressed on into the blizzard, determined and strengthened. In that moment she finally stopped hiding from it, fully embracing her gift, the Elder blood was hers, and it was strongest in her.
Geralt stood there for a few minutes, just staring at the spot that Ciri had vanished. He would miss her dearly, his daughter in all but blood, the girl that he had raised since she was 5 years olds, the daughter he tried to teach everything he knew, was gone... Taken away by her self-proclaimed-duties, maybe she had saved them? Maybe she did do this for a good cause, but it sure didn't feel that way.
Geralt turned and walked back out of the tower, he stopped for a moment and spoke over his shoulder to Avallac'h: "Your Queen was badly injured by the regicide during the fight, you should see to her." Geralt said.
"Oh, really? I might have expected a confrontation between them... Yes I need to go see to her, it's a long way back to camp, would you like to go through a portal?" Avallac'h stated and asked.
Geralt sighed and said: "She was moments away from being killed when I came to her rescue, miracle timing... I hate portals, but it would save hours getting back to camp, yes please."
"Let us go then, and good job, thank you." he replied and opened a portal back to the camp, as an add-on he went through first to show it was safe, Geralt followed.
When they stepped through back at camp, everything was back to semi normally, the Naglfar was still in the bay... But how would they get rid of a supersized world traveling long ship? They'll have to teleport it into the middle of the sea or something, whatever... What was more, was that there was a medical tent erected in the center of the camp, Nilfucker soldiers packed and hauled their tents and gear out of the area, back to the fleet most likely, Emyhr had decided to pull out of the Skellige campaign after their assistance in defeating the Wild Hunt, Geralt had noticed Crach an Craite's dead body among the many corpses on the Naglfar... That's truly a shame, Cerys will have to be Queen without the guidance and support of her father, at least now she can really prove how good of a Queen she is, and that she isn't in the shadow of her father, but still... Everyone needs their parents, most people do that is.
Geralt gave Avallac'h a 'thanks,' and headed towards the medical tent, seeming to be the spectacle of the camp at the moment... When he got inside he noticed there were two sections of the tent, one easily accessed part, and one more secluded section, for the women. There were three people in the tent, the first was Gaetan, he had a good number of deep cuts and bruises on his legs, and a large gash across his chest, all would heal quickly and correctly for a witcher, no worry there. The second was Francesca, she was lying on her stomach, her back completely bare except for the healing ointment and bandage over top the slashes on her back, she was asleep.
The third... was Triss, when he saw her he instantly rushed over to her side and knelt down to inspect her condition. She didn't look good, she had four different cuts on her beautiful face and several bruises, her arms were at her sides, even having worn her sorceresses armor she still had a few light bruises on her arms. Most of the damage was internal, as he would later find out, but she looked like she had been beat up. Her chest also had one big bruise right in the center, like she had been hit hard by something.
"Triss?" He asked.
She stirred, groaning and opening her eyes to look at him, when she saw him her eyes changed from a hurt look to a loving warmth.
"I was a fool, Geralt, I'm sorry..." She cried. Having seen Geralt walk in a few moments ago, Rita walked into the tent, he didn't notice her though.
"What happened?" He said to her quietly in a worried and sad tone.
She sighed and told him what happened. "Ciri went after Caranthir, I saw the fight briefly from the cliffs and teleported down to fight alongside her... When I got down there we threw taunts at each other, then he dissapeared, I knew he'd be behind me so I teleported a few feet behind me, and threw lightning where I knew he would show up... It worked, and that was really the last of my success, for I was a foolish girl that thought she could beat the Wild Hunt's general." She shook her head and continued: "He kicked me extremely hard in the chest after I stupidly blocked horizontally, then he told me I was a weak Dh'oine mage bitch, and brought his staff down on me... That's when Ciri flashed over and teleported me away, I couldn't fight anymore after that and she tried to protect me, I managed to raise a shield while she fought him... I tried to signal for the other sorceresses, but they never came, Ciri couldn't beat him either but she did destroy his staff, breaking his spell, she escaped and teleported us both away." She finished, tears in her eyes, and shame at herself.
"It's not your fault, Triss." He said and pulled her into a hug, making sure not to hurt her, she cried into his shoulder as he rubbed her back. "Caranthir was a very strong mage, I was right above you on that ledge, frozen... It took both you and Ciri to weaken him and stop the spell, giving me the opportunity to finish him off. None of the other sorceresses would have done any better, Yen sure as hell wouldn't have, they were so scared that they cowered on the cliff in fear!" Geralt told her, trying to cheer her up.
"You're the most powerful mage I know, male or female, don't feel bad about yourself... Francesca couldn't beat Eredin either." He conveyed to her, sincere and apologetic.
She pulled away and looked at him, tears in her eyes, less shame though. "Thank you, Geralt, and I was wondering how she ended up in here." Triss replied to him, sincerely and humorous toward the end, she leaned in and kissed him, before getting an idea.
"Geralt, sit up here with me." She told him, and he did. When he was next to her she shifted over and straddled his lap and resumed kissing him, her arms around his neck.
She pulled back for a moment, something going off in her head as she recounted his words. "Wait, Geralt, what did you mean you were right above me? Frozen?" She said, worried and incredulous just didn't cut it.
"Caranthir's spell froze me and my company of Nilfucker soldiers as we approached the Naglfar." Geralt explained.
"Nilfucker... Yeah, I like that." She commented, "I saw some frozen figures, never once crossed my mind that one of them might be you though! I'm so stupid!" Triss exclaimed.
"Calm down, Triss, it's alright, it's to be expected that you didn't notice me... After all I am a lot less sexy and handsome frozen in ice."
She blushed lightly and smacked his arm, "stupid male pride of yours." She said, teasing.
"Yeah... You like it though, admit it."
She blushed even more, this is what he did to her... "Mhm, yes, I do like it a lot." She said sexily and kissed him passionately, he kissed her back just as passionately and after a few moments moved down her jaw to lovingly and affectionately kiss her neck... It was at this moment that she noticed Rita standing in the open space.
"Rita?" She said, confused. Hearing this, Geralt got up and they both sat on the other side of the medical cot, facing Rita.
She had an ashamed and hurt look on her face, and they both realized that she heard their entire exchange.
Triss started: "Rita I'm-" She was cut off.
"No, Triss, I am sorry... Geralt was right, we did cower on the cliffs, some of them did at least... Yennefer didn't want to help because she despises you, Phil and Fringilla were in charge of the sorceresses and they told us not to go down, hiding their selfishness with "it wouldn't be logical to risk more mages lives," and "we must keep the Naglfar in the bay!" I was the only one that wanted to help..." Rita said, every word the truth, and she still looked ashamed, tears starting to form in her eyes.
"I believe I'm going to need to have a chat with Yen after all this..." Geralt said quietly.
"Calm down, Rita, it's not your fault. I turned out alright, Ciri did too, we won." Triss said... And Geralt's face instantly fell when he heard "Ciri did too."
"Triss..." Geralt said to her, he should tell her now.
"What?" She replied.
"Ciri... Ciri is dead." Geralt said to her, deeply sad and his voice shaky.
Triss wouldn't take it well, and she didn't... She instantly put her hand to her face and started sobbing, she truly loved the girl, recently she started seeing her as a daughter more than a sister.
"WHAT!" They heard, Rita said it, but it was Francesca that they heard.
Geralt immediately put his arm around Triss and pulled her into him, hugging her tight. She cried into his shoulder and he rubbed her back comfortingly, she was a very emotional woman, and she felt safest in his arms, trusting him to comfort her when she needed him most.
(A/N This song is perfect to fit Ciri's choice, and what she did to save them all, and the emotional effect it has on them. Listen to the whole song, it's perfect. Ciri's song: www. youtube /watch?v=SL_-RqReveA It's the top one :)
"Francesca, Avallac'h didn't use Ciri, for anything... She wanted him to help her open a portal to the first world destroyed by the white frost, and stop it for good... And she gave her life to stop it, I suppose there is a chance that she didn't die, and she will come back, but from the way she spoke I doubt it." Geralt explained to her.
Instead of replying Francesca just shook her head sadly, in the end their lost blood and lives lost had amounted to just about nothing.
She looked at him, they had become friends in the past week or so, which was good... "Comfort her, Geralt, she needs you." Is all she said, he nodded to her, and then she turned her head to either go back to sleep or think.
"I will..." Geralt whispered, and kissed Triss's hair and rubbed her back, she was still crying.
Geralt nodded his head toward Rita and she got the message, she came over to sit next to them and hug her too, she was part of their family too, unofficially, but she was in reality. Triss always viewed Vesemir as her father, and she always had such a good relationship with Rita that she viewed her as her motherly figure. Geralt recently started to see her as not a friend, but more as a sister, like he saw the wolf witchers as brothers. She was part of their pack, part of his pack.
Triss stopped and sat up straight, sniffling and her eyes still red from crying. "This isn't the time or place to mourn, Thank you." She said to them.
"I'll always be here for you, Triss, there's nothing wrong with grieving for those you love." Geralt said to her, loving.
"Mhm," Rita agreed.
"Thank you... If you've no objections, Geralt, I want to go to Kovir as soon as possible, today even. I'm sick of this fucking continent, this place..." Triss said.
"I couldn't agree more, just stop by the Inn back there at Kaer Trolde to pickup a few items and I'm set." Geralt said.
"Mhm," Triss agreed, nodding.
"Wait," Rita said.
They looked at her, "Can I come with you? To Kovir?" She asked.
"Of course! You're family, Rita, of course you can come with us." Triss said, excited. "We can't teleport there though, we have to travel by sea."
"Fine by me, I love long voyages, and on the journey I can help you heal." Rita said.
"Thank you, and Kovir is a safe haven for mages, perhaps it's time I start a new life..." Rita pondered.
"Yeah... There is one problem though." Triss said.
"What?"
Triss just rolled her eyes, "Well, it's true that Tancred offers a safe haven for mages... But he never mentioned his views on the Lodge."
"Oh... Yeah, that." Rita said, worried and conflicted.
"It's not a huge problem, not like it would be for Phillipa, since you weren't balls deep into politics like the others, and I can inform him that you had nothing to do with Demavend or Foltest's assassinations, completely innocent." She finished, the last words coming out in a hiss.
Rita just looked at her and crossed her arms, "when did my star-student become so vulgar?" She asked, incredulous.
Triss just shrugged as if to say: "I don't know." While Geralt smirked and said: "Well, it tak-" He started but didn't finish, because Triss elbowed him hard and interrupted him by saying: "I suggest you reconsider that statement, or it will lose it's relevance." She said with a dangerous tone, not even looking back. (A/N "Well, it takes one to know one." for clarification, LOL now.)
Geralt just crossed his arms and smirked, but the old Rectress was a smart one, so Rita was able to deduce what he was about to say even from the small bit he got out... And she burst out laughing, throwing her head back.
Triss blushed furiously, she knew that she figured it out. Geralt started chuckling lightly at her embarrassment.
After a couple moments, the laughing died down, but Triss was still blushing.
Rita said after a bit: "So, you'd really do that for me?" She said.
"Of course! But you'd have to come with me when I first appear before the king, and if Geralt comes with us like I plan to ask him, hopefully that'll make three of us."
Rita's face paled a little bit, and she frowned in concern.
"That doesn't sound very safe..." Rita said, like it was obvious.
"In your situation I suppose it wouldn't, but it would also be the most honorable and least-convicting thing to do, if you show that you have no fear, then you are showing that you have no guilt, and that's what we're shooting for, and of course it's true." Triss said.
"Well aren't you smart..." Rita commented.
Triss shrugged and just stated: "Learned from you, remember?" Her tone all but screaming: "DUH!"
Rita lightly blushed and said: "I agree, and accept, thank you. I will accompany you when you appear before the King. Please just make sure nothing happens to me..." Rita said, accepting and worried.
"Nothing bad will happen to you, Rita." She said, confidently.
"I trust you. It was my decision to join the Lodge in the first place, I opposed the assassinations, but I still have the title and I'll have to face it." Rita said, confident.
"It was most unfair to you, Margarita, the Lodge was a political cabal and you weren't in it for politics, I'm sorry." It was Francesca that said it.
"Thank you, Francesca, I appreciate it." Rita said to her, respectful.
"Don't mention it, I wish you the best of fortune in Kovir, and if it makes you feel any better... I didn't like the Lodges decision either, the only reason I help found it in the first place was because it would and was extremely beneficial to my realm to have allies that had power in politics in the human realm." Francesca said.
"I pretty much managed to figure that out, the Lodge was a good idea, or at least they made it sound like it was... "Preservation of magic!" they said, and I swallowed that up hook, line, sinker and a good bit of the rod too... Then it turned into a cult for assassinating kings, and world domination." Rita finished, regretful.
"I couldn't have put it better myself." Francesca said, lightly chuckling.
"Well... Shall we get going?" Geralt said.
"Yes, I do believe that would good, the sooner the better." Rita said, Triss nodded. They got up and walked in a line to the tent opening.
"Wait," it was Francesca again, "You're always welcome to visit me in Dol Blathanna, it's sunny all year round if you want a vacation from the cold and dark of Kovir." She called to them, sincere.
"Thank you, Francesca, we'll be sure to visit one day, be nice to see the new king." Geralt mocked.
Francesca blushed bright red, and before she could say anything they left.
Triss and Rita giggling as they walked away, Triss opened a portal and they traveled to the Inn at Kaer Trolde to retrieve their possessions and items.
A/N I'm going to end it there, I hope this gave lots of answers and produced much fewer questions, if you are reading this on a phone and can't Copy-pasta that song link, or manually type-copy it, then just search: "Take you down- Illenium (Official Audio)" On the internet. Ciri's song.
Please, please, please leave a review! Reviews are EXTREMELY appreciated, and if I can write a 4.5K word chapter in one day at least take the time to write a short review! If you've been on this site very long, you know by now that authors make no money from these stories, unless you're whoever the hell the 50 shades of grey author is who wrote the story on Wattpad and it turned into a show... lol.(Fun
fact.)
But anyways, if authors get reviews it makes it even more worth it! Although, writing is also fun if you are open minded, or get ideas.
Hope you enjoyed! Next chapters gonna be good, probably some laughs in their too, I think this foreshadowed what I plan to do a little bit? Maybe? Hee hee, the suspense! Peace out!
