Moon RK18-94, GFDate 4034:0502 “Wait.” Keaton rubbed his temples with his fingers, closing his eyes for a moment before staring back into the viewscreen. “They want what for peace?” “Trade,” Anthony answered. Keaton looked at the office behind him, looking for... something. He wasn't quite sure what he was looking for. There was a desk and chairs, Anthony following Adam's Spartan aesthetic. Mia Xen was there, too, standing at attention behind Anthony. Keaton frowned with both mouths. “We offered them trade before,” he said, leaning forward thoughtfully. “Are they that worried about the Vhozon that they're willing to revisit old offers, or is this some kind of trick...?” “Things could be wrong on their side of the fence,” Anthony said, offering a third option. Keaton puzzled over that for a moment. “We really have no way of knowing, not without having eyes on at least one of their worlds.” Keaton looked at Anthony. “Getting someone other than you out there would take days we might -not- have, and I -can't- spare you.” “I could go.” Both Anthony and Keaton looked at Mia Xen, surprised and impressed by the offer. They looked at one another, Keaton's gaze boring into Anthony's. The Human shrugged. “You'd be on your own, cut off from help,” Keaton said, looking at her. “We'd need you to take stock of things – everything they say, but also what they're hiding between the lines. They'll show you the best they've got and put on a show.” “I can look into the cracks, sir,” Mia said, smiling a little. “I can do this.” Keaton looked at Anthony. The Human shrugged again, a silent way of saying your call. “Alright.” Keaton said the word slowly. “I'll leave the details to you and Anthony, but I expect a full report. We need to be quick about this; Vogl is up to something and the Vhozon could attack at any time. Clear? Good. Keaton out.” The Sazin leaned back in his chair, glanced around. He could have sworn that the Kaayes had been looking at him when he'd been talking, but now the fruit was just fruit. His eyes narrowed for a moment, his attention flitting elsewhere as he stood, stretched, and left his office. “I'm going for a walk,” he told his secretary. “I'll be back in a few hours.” She nodded, took a note, let him go. He slipped past his bodyguards, his species long used to avoiding unwanted attention as he vanished into the early morning crowd. He let his mind wander, letting his feet take him where they wanted, gritting his teeth as he tried to keep his mind empty. He was descended from a race of predators; it surprised him how long it had taken for him to realize that someone was trying to make him prey. Planet YS7-23, GFDate 4034:0503 The three Cacatacs moved in unison, surrounding the golden haired woman at a distance, keeping her unaware of their presence. Brannigan had spent the past hour testing her awareness of her surroundings, getting her used to the idea of scuttling legs moving about in the dark without ever presenting a direct threat. He could see from her posture that she had lowered her guard. I'd call that your first mistake, the Desgeega thought, but your first mistake was crossing 'Big Time' Brannigan. Time to pay the penalty. The Cacatacs circled closer, keeping an equal distance from the overrated Hunter but closing the gap between themselves and her. When they were each about twenty feet away from her had had them keep a steady pace while moving around her, watching her for signs of awareness. She looked into the woods at first, clearly expecting some attack, but after a half hour without action she relaxed again. If she had seen one of the Cacatacs she might have guessed what was coming, but Brannigan had taken care to keep them out of her line of sight. She would have fought the creatures before, would have known about their pouches full of gaseous poisons. If she had seen one she might have done something, might have prepared herself, but as it was she just kept walking as he edged his weaponry closer to her. From twenty feet to fifteen. From fifteen to ten. Now. Three pouches of muscle-relaxing poisons soared through the air, landing around the soon-not-to-be Hunter. He watched as Samus glanced at them and cursed, recognizing them for what they were. There was a brief moment where he thought she was going to jump but she rolled instead, her face locked in a grimace as she came to her feet. The Cacatacs surged forward, keeping their distance as she lashed out with her sword. He might have admired the way she fell into stance if he hadn't hated her so much. She kept both blades at the ready, trying to close the distance between herself and at least one of the Cacatacs, but Brannigan used the two she wasn't attacking to cover the ones that were. He forced her to roll away from the thick miasma that leeched into the air from the pouches, loving the furious look in her eyes. Bitch, he thought. I'm not going to lose anything else to you. No more sacrifices. The only person who is going to lose anything is you. Lose again and again and again until there's nothing left of you... Planet YS7-23, GFDate ????:???? Samus ran, rolling away from the pouches as they were launched, listening for the telltale signs of when one was fired and coming for her. She glared at the one Cacatac she had been chasing, glared at the two that were trailing her. They were herding her, acting with far more intelligence than she was used to seeing from the scuttling bulbs. Are they being controlled? She glanced up at the watching fruit-eyes, wondering if the Colonel was controlling the monsters that had abused her ever since she had come to this wretched planet. I swear by every God the Chozo ever dreamed up that I am going to turn this planet into a lifeless rock the moment I get the chance, and the Colonel is going to go right along with it. The thought made her grin, a grim fantasy bringing her a sliver of joy. She dismissed it; she didn't have time for such thoughts. The Cacatacs were keeping her moving, keeping her at a distance of ten feet. She thought about throwing her knife but didn't want to risk losing the weapon – even if she hit the cacti would take more than a single hit to bring down. She glanced around, turning on her heel and breaking off in a different direction, tryint to break out of the triangle they had erected around her. Whoever was controlling these things was proving to be a better tactician than the Colonel had been, though, and the cacti kept their tight border around her, constricting her. If she'd been able to jump... she muttered a curse, not daring to close her eyes, knowing better than to hope for impossible things. Jumping would ground her, let these things get in close while leaving her defenseless. She had a good idea of what would become of her when that happened. The ground was uneven, her legs straining with the effort of compensating with each long stride. Her rolling was no different, bruises running down her shoulders and causing her to wince. She was relying too much on movement to keep her at a distance and she was beginning to lose her breath; if she didn't do something soon she was going to lose. Pivoting, she flung herself backwards, twisting her spine back and around as she dragged a single foot along the ground. She laughed when her blade tasted Cacatac flesh, the edge biting into the suddenly shrieking creature. She heard the sound of a couple of pouches being fired and rolled away, coming to a crouch just out of range as the thick fog rose out of the herbal grenades. Glancing up at the fruit-eye, she dodged around another few pouches, timing her movements. The Cacatacs had to stop when firing their weapons, a brief pause that might give her a slight window of opportunity if she still had enough energy to take advantage of it. She pivoted again, lunging, her sword lashing out and back as she hyper-extended her sword arm. Once again, her weapon tasted plant flesh, another shrill scream echoing around her. I can do this, she thought. I can win! The pouches came and she jumped away and came crashing back down to earth, forgetting for just a moment what leaving the ground would cost her. She screamed as she fell, terror turning to passion, her weapons falling forgotten as wave after wave of pleasure washed over her and the Cacatacs moved in closer, her rapidly blurring vision revealing their terrifying approach. Unbound yet helpless, she lay there, feeling the amber move along her thighs as long tendrils emerged from the Cacatacs' mouths, those tendrils touching her naked flesh and moving behind the protection that covered her, penetrating her, embracing the sensitive nub that was the core of her pleasure, driving her ever higher in the throes of ecstasy. Almost lost in sensation, she still felt something wet happening along the length of her thighs, something she couldn't yet make sense of, but then the Cacatac tendrils were teasing her further and all conscious thought abandoned her utterly...
