Seved plopped three paralyzed elves down on the floor of the great hall, a wide grin on his face. He waited for the others to gather before starting to strip them, one by one. Two warriors and a mage, all women in this group. Nilvari smirked as she stepped into the hall.
“Well, that’ll be the last small patrol they send out here.” She sat down at a side table and picked up a rag and one of the ancient elven blades, as she had volunteered to clean them up. They were in excellent condition and Seved saw no need to sell them when they could be put to good use. “Where did you find them?” “They were not too far down the path, discussing a plan of action when I saw them from the wall. They definitely saw the changes we’ve made, so I waited for them to get clear into the courtyard before I attacked. They didn’t see me coming. Mage went down first, then this one.” He nudged one of the warriors at his feet. “Last one tried to lop off my head but she wasn’t fast enough.” “Nice work, Master.” Eradil scurried up to help. “I don’t think we’ll be bothered for a while, though. The Ambassador isn’t foolish enough to keep sending small parties if they don’t come back. She’ll probably write this place off as lost.” “If they don’t send us more, then I’ll have to encourage Thalmor Hunting.” Seved smirked as he freed the mage from her robes and proceeded to show her off. “Makes mounting trophies a lot more fun, don’t you think?” “I think I’d like to mount that one.” Raj licked his lips and pointed to the mage Seved was holding. “I think she’d look quite nice over this table.” “By all means, then. I think the slut you have on there currently needs swapped out anyway. Mikal, give him a hand.” “With pleasure.” The Imperial grinned and set to work untying the unconscious girl on the table while Raj went to collect the freshly stripped mage. Seved continued on with the warrior he had nudged earlier. “What about these two?” He smirked wickedly as he worked, knowing the helpless women were keenly aware of what he was doing. “I think we have a couple others that could be switched out.” Thorald nodded. “Good to have some fresh cunts, I think.” “Agreed.” Seved nodded. “Get the tables ready, then.” He had been pleased with the work that was done over the past day and half. Harald had decided to stay longer with his cart, since coming back sooner would raise suspicion in the guards, considering that they’d said they were headed toward the Reach, and thus had been there to lend an extra pair of hands. The webbing had been cleared from the now spider-free lower section of the keep. Geriald and Valdrid had ventured out and retrieved some good timber to start making beds for a proper barracks. Thorald had made more fire bowls and gotten fires started in that section to keep it warm, and Seved had set up a workshop in what had been the office, though he hoped to have a proper alchemy and enchanting table brought in later as they could expand the keep further. Between meals, Vera kept busy mostly by cleaning up the mess hall and playing with the arrangement of tables and chairs to make it as efficient as possible. Overall, the keep was beginning to look a bit more welcoming than it had, and nearly ready to start receiving patrons. With the new prisoners stripped and lashed to the tables, Seved headed off to take care of the next piece of work. He hauled a small load of ingots and leather off to the forge. Before anyone else came in, there was one thing that he had to do, to protect himself, and the men who were with him, something that would allow them to travel outside of Northwatch without becoming targets. That, and he had to make sure that everyone there was well equipped so that when he did have to leave, he could feel a bit more confident about their chances in case the Thalmor did send scouting parties. He spent the remainder of the day at the forge, heating and pounding metal into shape, most of that being steel. The last pieces he forged were Dwarven metal with inlays of iron and steel. At long last he stepped back and wiped the sweat off his brow. It was long past time for supper, but he was very nearly finished. Riveting the pieces together and attaching them to leather went far faster than shaping the steel. He set the finished pieces on a table near the forge, smiling broadly as he looked at the finished work. He headed back to the office, carrying five items with him. The voices were whispering in the back of his mind again, and he was listening. Five grand soul gems, five small vials of void salts, five hagraven feathers, five ebony ingots. One small vial of bonemeal, the petals of Dragon’s Tongue, a bear’s claw, ectoplasm, and a piece of beehive husk. He traced the sigils for the enchantments on the table, and recited the words whispered in his ear. Five masks he had forged, attached to leather hoods. One by one, the hoods turned black, gaining swirling patterns of various colors. One with patterns of copper, one with violet, one with red, one with blue, and one with green. He called for Thorald, Avulstein, Geriald, and Valdrid to join him at the forge. They beheld the masks sitting on the table before Seved. They would cover only the upper portion of the face, and the design looked much like the masks depicted in old Nord ruins, the ones that showed Dragon Priests. They looked at him curiously. “One for each of you, and one for me.” Seved smiled. “The five of us must be able to keep things going, so we need a way to keep ourselves hidden... Those here now, and maybe a few others that we come to trust along the way, can keep the secret. But before we get more followers, and patrons...” “We must protect ourselves.” Thorald nodded in agreement with Seved. “No faces, no names.” “Precisely.” Seved looked to the men and one by one, handed them each a mask. To Thorald he gave the red mask. “You who have bled for the cause, Aima, will find yourself strengthened for your sacrifice.” To Avulstein he handed the violet mask. “You who risked all for your kin, Dioikitis, shall command the respect of man and beast alike.” To Geriald he gave the blue mask. “For you, Mageia, keeper of the arcane, shall find your magic strengthened.” To Valdrid he handed the viridian mask. “And to you, Thirio, the shadows shall be home, and no lock will escape your picks.” He took the copper mask for himself and smiled. “And I, Osto, shall lead you, speak the words to quell all fears and doubts, and in defense of Northwatch shall make good use of the Voice.” Five nords donned the masks. Five nords felt the magic course through them. It was far more powerful than Seved had expected. “These shall--” Geriald stopped for a moment and then looked at the others. “I sound different.” “You do... So do I...” Valdrid tilted his head. “Do we--?” Thorald seemed shocked. “All sound...” Avulstein slowly looked among them all. “Like each other...” Seved was even a bit surprised. “A side effect of enchanting them all at once, perhaps? But handy, I think.” Each sounded like a perfect blend of all five voices. There was no way to tell them apart by sound, only by the masks. “That is a bit unsettling.” Thorald shook his head. “The better to strike fear into the Thalmor.” Geriald grinned widely. The grin was infectious. He was right. Five men that you could not tell apart. They could all be the same man, they could be any men. They had gained anonymity, and that would be their greatest weapon. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
