Book II: Bond
Chapter 7: The Best Laid Plans
A Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Fanfiction
Andi was smiling as she unlocked the door to the apartment that she and Sean had been living in together for last year and a half. " Sean! Honey, are you home?" She called out. Silence met her question and Andi shrugged. More than likely, he was either out with the boys at the moment, or he was out with Adrian. Sometimes I wonder if I'd rather that he hung out with the guys from school. He and Adrian get along way too well sometimes. She thought with a chuckle. She hung her keys up and deposited her purse on the bar, while at the same time hanging her bookbag on one of the stools there. Well, no time like the present to get the chores started, she surmised with an unamused roll of her eyes.
It was well and good that she had gotten home early that day, as Andi and Sean were going to Don Coqui's that night for another amateur's dancing competition. They had been practicing their routine for the last three months alone since it had been announced. But first things first, Andi mused with a groan, the chores had to be done.
She set to getting the dishes loaded into the dishwasher, though Andi couldn't keep the slight blush off of her cheeks as she looked at the counter near the sink. She and Sean had gotten into a very heated debate last night, and in the end he had bent her over that very counter. It had been effective in silencing her counter argument, well, at least until Andi had come back to her senses. She had started right back up where she had left off, much to her lover's chagrin. Andi chuckled a bit smugly at that thought, and she couldn't help the little pulse of desire that rippled through her at how utterly thorough Sean had been last night. So deliciously thorough...she thought as she squeezed her thighs together in an effort to alleviate the tingling sensation she felt now just thinking over it again. The last two years had done nothing to cool their ardor for one another, Andi noticed. In fact she sometimes felt as if they longer they were together, the more addicted she became to Sean.
Sean was a keeper sent to Andi from the gods. He loved to cook, he had no fuss in helping to keep their home clean, and the sex was nothing short of fantastic now that Andi had eased him out of his comfort zone as it were. He wasn't methodical anymore, nor did he ever stick to the same routine. Sean had become the kind of lover Andi had always fantasized he would be.
Sean certainly had no complaints there as well. He found he liked the spontaneity of their more passionate moments, though he honestly loved to fuck Andi senseless from one end of the bed to the other.
Preferably the longest side of course.
Andi groaned and she crossed her eyes a bit as another pulse of want rolled through her and she looked at the clock. Good god! It's only two in the afternoon?! she thought miserably. There was no telling when Sean was going to get home and she needed to work this out before she raped him the minute he walked through the door. And even then he might have company which would force her to wait longer.
Andi made her way to the stairs even as she unbuttoned her blouse. Her feet were on automatic as she took the stairs two at a time, her need and desire for the man she loved driving her impatience. The rest of the housework can wait a few. I need to get off before I go nuts! She thought, her shoulders shimmying a little as she shrugged the green piece of cotton to their bedroom floor. Her bra followed almost immediately and Andi's hips switched a little as she pulled both her jeans and underwear down her lean legs.
Sean loved Andi's legs. He loved to nibble on them while they were having sex; which Andi loved though she never told him that. He loved feeling the tight, taut muscles of her calves and thighs against his chest, shoulders, and elbows if he wanted to twist some pretzels as he had first termed their more kinky repertoire. Most of all, he loved to watch those legs dance, walk, the kind of movement didn't matter. Sean loved Andi's legs; especially if she wore a mini skirt around the house for him. Those days he liked to dub easy access days as that mini skirt found its way up over her ass and around her hips by the time Sean got to it.
Andi hissed as the cool material of their bed linens met her fevered and excited flesh, eliciting a gooseflesh response almost immediately as her back settled against the bed. Her hands were already caressing their own separate paths over her sides, breasts and stomach, raising the flame and heat that she felt even higher as she thought of Sean's hands doing what hers were. One finger barely grazed her nethers as the other hand tweaked and rolled a pert nippled between the digits. Andi's head flew back even further into the mattress as the finger near the junction of her thighs found its purchase into her slick channel and she gave a small cry of disappointment. Her fingers were well and good, but Sean's fingers were what her body truly craved. She needed him, not this sorry substitute!
Andi could practically see his face as she envisioned the man she loved. His jaw will be tight, his eyes dark and glittering as he thinks of the best way to join me. His clothing will be off faster than lightening for that matter...she daydreamed, too caught in her fantasy to care any more about how her fingers weren't his.
God damn she wished it really was him. Andi needed him to take her hard and fast today, as last night had been slow, sweet, and agonizing torture despite how good Sean had been. That had just been his way of asserting his machismo, though Andi didn't mind it as long as it didn't get out of hand. If he struck her with the intent to harm, Andi wouldn't hesitate in breaking it off. After she beat his ass for it first though. Those thoughts were the furthest thing from her mind though as she worked furiously towards climax.
Damn she hoped Sean got home soon.
Sean opened the door and he blanched the minute he saw Andi’s keys hanging on their respective hook. She had beat him home. How in hell had she beat him home? She had three finals today which should have allowed him time to get back and change into his workout clothing. They were supposed to go running before their date that night. He looked over into the kitchen and found it devoid of his lover and Sean’s brow furrowed. Andi had already gotten the dishes done? Shit, that meant that she had been home longer than he thought. He was about to check the office when a wanton moan reached his ears from the bedroom. Sean hurriedly grabbed the wall as blood rushed from one head to the other and his eyes began glittering. So, Andi was having a little bit of fun upstairs, hm? Maybe they didn’t have to go for a run today to get their cardio in.
Andi was working furiously towards orgasm, and her fingers were moving like a blur between her thighs as she thought of Sean. She panted his name as she felt her breathing quicken in anticipation and Andi moaned loudly as she thought of Sean driving into her hard and fast. She was so caught in her fantasizing that she didn’t hear the bedroom door open further, nor did Andi hear the soft footsteps that heralded someone walking toward her.
Andi had the grace to scream when her hands were torn away from her center and she shuddered as she felt Sean’s lips close around her honey covered digits. His fingers had since replaced hers in teasing her, and Andi’s cerulean eyes locked onto his glittering cinnamon ones as her fingers fell away from his mouth.
“ I thought you had exams this afternoon.” Sean purred as he leaned in closer. He was already rock hard as he closed the distance between their bodies and Andi groaned as she arched into him.
“ Two got delayed until next week…” Andi whispered, though her hands had already come up to weave into Sean’s hair and pull him in for a kiss.
“ Imagine my surprise to find you naked, and horny when I got home...That’s what I call a hell of a hello or welcome back.” Sean purred as he kept teasing Andi’s core with his other hand. He dipped his head down to capture a pert, rose colored bud between his lips and teeth and Andi nearly screamed in both elation and ecstasy at the feeling that surged through her as Sean began suckling and worrying the taut nipple. Yes, she had no qualms in masturbating when the mood struck her; in this case it had hit her pretty damn hard, but there was no substitute for how Sean made her feel. It was as if her very soul was singing whenever they joined.
Sean quickly stretched out over Andi's body, his fingers withdrawing from her and forcing a cry of disappointment from the woman beneath him. That cry was soon turned into a throaty moan of fulfillment as Sean thrust inside of Andi, and she arched at the sudden feeling. She hadn't been expecting him to go right for the gold. Normally Sean would put Andi through another agonizing half hour or so of foreplay to get her hotter than she could stand. “ Damn that’s some good pussy.”
Andi shuddered. Oh hell yes, Sean was in that mood today. He was more than likely just as worked up as she was, though she didn’t know why, but Andi knew Sean was going to put her through her paces this afternoon. “ Sean please!”
“ Please what, Andi? You know you have to ask me properly if you want me to do something.” Sean purred in her ear. His hips were thrusting and meeting hers at a fairly brisk pace at the moment and Andi groaned delightedly at the depth he was achieving.
“ Please...Please fuck me...Sean I need it!” she cried out brokenly between his thrusts. “ I want you to drive me from one end of the bed to the other!” Andi shrieked in surprise as Sean suddenly withdrew from her and she found herself doubled over at the foot of the bed. Her eyes went hotter at the dominant position Sean was taking and he smirked sexily down at her as he lined himself up at her entrance.
“ Now how can I refuse you when you begged me so sweetly.” he growled sensuously, sliding into her heat again and he grabbed both her wrists before he picked up his pace. “ Now, I’m going to kindly pound my way up the bed, as you asked. Care to help me keep count on how many thrusts is takes?”
Andi screamed his name as Sean drove in hard and deep this time, the head of his cock knocking hard against her womb and she felt her inner muscles clench at his rigid length tightly in an effort to keep him there.
“ One...Two...Two and a half...Two and three quarters..” Sean began, smiling devilishly down at Andi, whose eyes were locked to his the entire time as he counted as slow as he could.
This was definitely going to take a while.
Andi was in the shower washing up when Sean joined her. " Where were you this afternoon when I got home? Out with Adrian again?" She chortled.
Sean stiffened at the question, though it was not lost on Andi. Only she knew what had taken place just that afternoon.
Three hours earlier:
Sean fingered his collar a bit nervously. He was meeting Tammy and Peter alone today at Masa, the best steakhouse in New York City, and he was buying lunch. That wasn't why he had asked them to join him however. Oh no, Sean had something very important he needed to get off of his chest.Sean heard Tammy before he spotted her and he gave Andi's parents a bright, welcoming smile as they walked up. " Peter, Tammy. Thank you for joining me today." He said. He reached out to shake Peter's hand, which Sean always did whenever he saw the two of them, and he accepted a quick hug from Tammy as she reached out to him.
" Where's Andi today?" Tammy asked, though she was looking for her daughter even as she spoke. " I thought she was finishing up her finals this afternoon?"
" She is. I wanted to speak to both of you on my own if that's alright." Sean replied. Again he attempted to loosen his collar and he swallowed a little in his nervousness. His throat had never felt so tight before, nor this dry. Even the bottom of his palms felt covered in sweat he was so nervous.
Peter's brow arched exactly like Andi's did when something caught her curiosity and he smirked a little as he put his arm around Tammy's shoulder. " Alright then Sean. Not many men are brave enough to go it alone with their girlfriend's parents. You've certainly got a set of stones just like your old man." Peter barked out a laugh as he finished speaking, his hand clapping the younger man between the shoulder blades, and Sean broke down into his own peels of laughter as well. There were definite upsides to his and Andi's parents being friends as long as they had.
Sean composed himself long enough to tell the maitre d the name on the reservation and he wiped tears of mirth from his bright brown eyes. " I haven't had that good a laugh since Ishmael got Andi with that airhorn under her computer chair two years ago." He chortled a little and his face sobered a little at the thought of his fallen friend. Before he and Adrian had grown close, Ishmael had been Sean's best friend amongst Andi's cousins. That had been the first time he had spoken about Ishmael out loud since the funeral for the three Holton brothers.
Peter sensed this and he gave Sean's shoulder a comforting squeeze. The young man had suffered quite a bit in that incident two years ago after all. Sean seemed to stare off into the distance as he became lost in thought, having suddenly been pulled back to that awful night. Both Tammy and Peter looked to one another worriedly and Peter cleared his throat. He would have to make it a point to ask Sean if he or Andi had gotten the grief counseling they should have or if Sean had been tested for P.T.S.D., Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. " Let's get to our seats, have a couple shots of sake, and we'll talk, hm?" Peter offered, finally garnering Sean's attention and the younger man nodded. A good, stiff drink sounded just like what Sean needed at the moment.
" So Sean, is Vic still trying to groom you to take over the company in the next ten to fifteen years?" Tammy asked him with a slight chuckle. Both she and Peter knew Sean had no interest in running Steelhog Industries.
" No, thank god. He let me switch my major last year. I've been looking for drafting and design program that'll challenge me. Thank goodness I had all those science credits too, they're coming in handy." Sean breathed out a sigh of relief at the thought. " Martin's being set up to take over once he's finished with MIT, and I'll be on the board of course, but I'll be heading up R and D instead. You see, shortly after Andi and I moved in together she caught me doodling in one of my notebooks when I was trying to procrastinate on my coursework, and well, she found out that I have a knack for designing one of a kind guns that would be more of a show piece than a conventional firearm. Shortly after that, she bought me a wacom tablet, some computer drawing software and last year I sat my dad down and showed him all the guns I've been designing for a show line instead of coming up with the next greatest magnum or colt. He was a little shocked, but pleased nonetheless. He would have been more disappointed if I hadn't gone into Steelhog at all." Sean looked up in surprise when a carafe of sake and matching ceramic glass was set before him. He hadn't even heard Peter order their drinks.
" Drink up son, you're nervous." Peter chortled. He held his hand up to quiet Sean, who had been about to apologize if he had been rambling at all. " It's not that you're talking too much, I can hear it in your voice, Sean. You've been dating my daughter the last two years, I should have come to know you pretty well by now I would hope." Peter filled his own cup and knocked a shot back himself, grimacing a bit at the taste of the bitter brew. " How do they drink this stuff overseas?"
Sean chuckled. " Sake's an acquired taste. And thank you, Peter." Sean toasted the other man and his wife before knocking back the alcohol himself. His eyes screwed shut at the burn that quickly traveled down his throat and through his chest and Sean grunted in appreciation at the welcome sting the alcohol provided. Damn, he was much more nervous than he thought he was and the sake was certainly doing the trick in helping to ease his nerves.
" You two are graduating with your bachelors this summer, right?" Peter asked.
" Yeah, it's only a matter of time before Andi get a response back from Harvard." Sean said, his tone softening as he finished his sentence. Now that was a melancholy topic he honestly didn't want to think about, but there was nothing for it. Sean knew Andi would be moving to Boston before the years end. " That's actually why I asked you both to join me today."
" Did you want us to have an apartment ready for her near campus like the way you guys are set up now?" Tammy asked. " I would love to surprise her with that! Oh Peter! We could even furnish the place seeing as how Andi never gave us the chance to do so!"
" Tammy..." Sean interrupted gently before the woman went on an excited tangent. " We can look into that, but no, that's not why I asked the both of you to join me today. I might as well get it out, or I won't be able to eat a damn thing." Sean took a deep, calming breath and his eyes flitted to the bottle of sake " One more shot..." he whispered.
Peter chuckled as Sean knocked back yet another cupful of the japanese brew and he shook his head. " Now I know something's up. I've never seen you this on edge since before the trial." Peter said lowly. The night before Ricardo Turino was set to go to trial, a hit was placed not just for Sean, who was the only one testifying as he had been able to correctly identify the men involved in the drive by, but for Andi as well. It had nearly put Sean on a murderous rampage himself when Adrian had come flying through the door with that news. His girlfriend, Alli, was undercover on the gang scene and had instantly told Adrian about it once she had been able to. It was also a night Peter would never forget either. He hadn't allowed for Andi and Sean to stay at their apartment in the Avalon during that whole mess and had insisted the couple stay with them. But when Sean had heard that there was someone looking to harm Andi, it was as if the young man had become a much different person, darker somehow. And while Sean wasn't too keen on running a gun company, it didn't mean that he wasn't skilled in using them.
Sean was a natural marksman and Peter had learned that lesson two days after the notice of the hit had come out. They had all been at the courthouse for the first part of the arraignment, and Peter and Vic; along with other security personnel, were in the midst of trying to get Sean and Andi through the wall of media reporters and journalist when gunshots had started ringing through the air. Sean hadn't ducked down however and he looked through the panicking crowd in an effort to find the person responsible. A woman screamed to his left, and Sean looked in that direction immediately. There were thugs armed with guns and knives coming right for them and Andi tried to pull Sean down the steps to the car that was waiting for them. Peter had never seen anything like it though, as the five gangsters that were coming to them raised their guns in preparation to kill them, Sean had broken free of Andi’s grip, and he had pulled a custom gun from a holster hidden away in his coat. Sean had only fired five shots, and all five of the gangsters had hit the ground with some sort of leg injury that would keep them from advancing any further on them. The only thing Peter could figure was that he had one of the security personnel hold it for him while they were inside. There had been but a scant minute where the younger man had not been in their company. That day, Peter had learned that Andi was definitely in good hands, because Sean would never allow any harm to come of her if he could help it. Peter was brought back to the present as Tammy laughed brightly at something Sean said and he knocked back another shot of sake. This would be the last one as he still had to drive home.
“ I’m scared as all hell to honest.” Sean muttered in response to Tammy’s earlier comment. “ Anyway, Peter, Tammy….The reason I asked both of you to join me for lunch today was…” Sean took a deep steadying breath and he looked Peter dead in the eye. Peter had to know how serious he was about this. “...I wanted to ask the both of you for your blessing. I want to ask Andi to marry me before she leaves for Boston...In fact, I’m hoping to ask her tonight if you’ll allow it of me.”
Whatever Tammy and Peter had been expecting, that had not been it. In fact, Peter had been certain that Sean was going to talk to him about breaking it off easy with Andi when she moved to Boston. Kids their ages didn’t do long distance relationships all too well. Peter looked to the table a moment as he seemed to think things over. Sean was a good man, and Andi would be taken care of if he allowed Sean to marry her. It was obvious to Peter that his daughter was this man’s sun, moon, and stars. Hell, Andi was Sean’s universe it seemed whenever the two were caught dancing. “ Are you sure about this Sean?” Peter finally asked.
“ I’ve never been more certain of anything in my entire life, Peter. I love your daughter, and I don’t care if she was moving to San Francisco as opposed to Boston. I’d still want to be with her no matter what distance is put between us. I just want to make it clear to any hotshots that try to hit on her while I’m not there that she’s got someone waiting for her. I can wait for a wedding until both of us are done with school, I just…” Sean’s eyes screwed shut as he tried to think of the most eloquent way to put this.
“ You’re marking your territory, Sean. Nothing wrong in saying that.” Tammy said with a smirk that Sean couldn’t help but return. “ I know how much you love my daughter, and Peter and I have seen how happy you’ve made her the last two years. Hell, I’m still singing your praises for getting her out of the one date only kind of string.”
Peter chuckled. “ What Tammy’s trying to say is that we would be honored to finally have you in the family. How are you going to propose to her?”
Sean smirked as he leaned in close. “ Well, for starters, as you know we’re going to Don Coqui’s again tonight…”
Present:
" Not exactly...If I tell you that you'll find out soon enough will that be alright?" He asked tentatively. He couldn't very well tell her that he had met with her parents over lunch to ask for their blessing for her hand in marriage after all.
Andi looked up at Sean a little skeptically. They had never been able to keep any secrets from one another in the time they had been together, though Andi was sure that their uncanny connection had something to do with that. She smiled after a moment and nodded. " That's fine, honey. Just no fastballs, alright?"
Sean nodded in return as he leaned in to plant a quick kiss on her lips. If she only knew...he thought with a small chuckle.
The restaurant was bustling with activity by the time Sean and Andi checked in. Her blue eyes were scanning the crowd and she screamed in elation when she saw not only Adrian and Alli, but a good chunk of her family there as well. It was no secret that she and Sean were competing this evening. Andi rushed over to the table where her relatives were gathered and she began hugging them all ecstatically. Andi hadn't had as much time as she would have liked as of late to visit them all.
" Mom! Dad! What are you guys doing here?" Andi exclaimed, though she was beyond thrilled to see them.
" We told you we would make it if we could." Peter chuckled after giving Andi a quick peck on her cheek. He looked to Sean with a smile and he held his hand out as Sean reached over to shake it. " And as you can see, we're not the only ones either." Peter leaned to the side to let Sean's curious gaze past him and the younger man smiled brightly when he saw Victor, Terri, and Martin in attendance as well.
" You guys said you all were busy!" Sean exclaimed as he rushed over to them. He gave his mother a tight squeeze, and a quick embrace followed for both his father and brother.
" Like we would honestly miss this." Victor whispered in his son's ear. He gave Sean a supportive smile and Victor laid a hand on his shoulder. " You ready?"
" Not really..." Sean admitted. " I'm beyond nervous right now, but I know the minute Andi and I get out onto the floor that I'll be alright. There's no going back after that." Sean looked over to where Andi was excitedly talking with Alli and Adrian, and he met the other man's gaze. Adrian was going to slip Sean the ring when they took the floor. Sean nodded to him and Adrian smiled knowingly and gave Sean a single nod in return. Everything was going according to plan.
Instead of all the couples dancing at once as they had done in the past, all the contestants were being given a chance to showcase their routines one at a time. The competition was also not just slated to latin dance, but to all types this time around, and the majority of the other contestants were certain that there was going to be a very steamy bachata courtesy of Sean and Andi. They were slated to go last though, and as everything wore on, Andi noticed Sean was getting more and more antsy." You alright?" She whispered in his ear. Andi couldn’t help but notice that Sean was starting to look a bit pale, and her hand rubbed his shoulder in an effort to soothe him.
" Yeah, I just want to get out there is all. We've been practicing this number for a while and I can't wait to have everyone gobsmacked." Sean admitted, though in all honesty he was sweating his proposal. “ Besides, we know they’re expecting one thing, and we’re going to give them something completely different.” Sean smirked as he said this and Andi chuckled as she stood on tiptoe to give him a kiss.
“ You’d think they would know something’s up with the way we’re dressed.” Andi replied. She was not in her normal dancing garb at all for this, and neither was Sean. With the exception of the heels Andi was wearing, both were in jeans, and rock print tees. It didn’t make Sean look any less delicious either, Andi mused lustily as she looked at him. Sean looked as if he belonged in a mosh pit at an Atreyu concert as opposed to the bar they were in. Andi wasn’t too far behind either with the Anberlin tank she was wearing, though she had on a shoulder riding shirt under it to help keep her a little warmer. They certainly had something different in mind tonight. She fidgeted with her jeans a little, pulling them up as far as they would go over her hips. They were a pair of low riding hip huggers and Andi couldn’t stand them. “ Now that you mention it, I can’t wait to get done either.” she deadpanned with a growl. “ Thank god Alli has a spare set of jeans for me to change into.”
Sean chuckled and he clapped as Ricardo and Luz; two of their friends that they had been dancing with for the last two years, gave the crowd a bow after finishing up a merengue. “ Those two did really good out there tonight. We have our work cut out for us Andi. And as for the pants…” Sean chuckled a little more as he turned his brown eyes down to his love. “...You said you wanted something that would make the jaws drop. Now the other men can let their tongues loll once they see what a hot little piece I’ve kept to myself all this time.” Sean purred as he kissed the tip of her nose.
Andi was just about to reply when she got cut off by the DJ. Damn him. For some reason, I think he bought these just to show ME off tonight. Andi thought with a discontented scowl. She again switched her hips as she attempted to pull the jeans up further and Sean’s eyes locked onto her rear as she did it. Andi caught him staring and blushed brilliantly. OH that cheeky little bastard! He bought these on purpose just so he could watch me do that all night?!
" Finally, our last couple of the night are Don Coqui regulars. You've seen them in action, you know who they are! Give it up for Sean and Andi!" The dj said brightly.
Sean pulled hard at his collar and he swallowed nervously as Andi took her position on the other side of the floor. Adrian clapped him on the shoulder and Sean nodded. " I'm alright. Just scared as all hell." He whispered to Adrian.
" Don't be Sean. Andi'll say yes." The other man replied kindly. Adrian pushed the ring box into Sean's hand and he quickly pocketed it before Andi turned to look at him. “ Now get out there!”
Sean took a deep breath as a whistle started coming over the speakers and he smiled at Andi as she began walking towards him. This was it, all or nothing now.
Peter’s brow furrowed as he heard the song and he looked over to Adrian. “ What’s this? I thought they were doing something latin based considering where we’re at.”
“ Fitz and the Tantrums. And Don Coqui’s announced that it was an open competition. It’s not just restricted to latin dance.” Adrian replied with a smile.
Ooh, crazy's what they think about meAin't gonna stop cause they tell me so
Cause 99 miles per hour baby,
Is how fast that I like to go.
Andi and Sean circled one another for a moment before he took her by the hand and the two started in on the steps to a basic four count. Andi couldn’t keep the smile off of her face as she began back stepping to the beat as Sean walked forward, both their shoulders twitching with the music.
Can't keep up with my rhythm
Though they keep trying.
Too quick for the lines they throw.
I walk to the sound of my own drum,
It goes, they go, we go, hey yeah yeah yeah
Both waggled their index fingers at one another as if saying they couldn’t keep up, and they did a quarter turn towards their families. Both were tapping their feet in time to the upbeat rhythm, and Sean couldn’t keep the smile off of his face now as he looked over Andi. They began stepping forward towards Adrian together, and Andi began bouncing a little before Sean took her by the hand again and spun her back to him as the chorus came in.
Oh, here we go
Feel it in my soul
Really need it, need it, so go
Gotta feel it, body takes control
Really need it, need it
Andi couldn’t remember them ever getting that spin right in practice, but she was sure as hell thankful that she didn’t slip this time at the speed in which she turned. Sean twirled her a bit more, all the while circling her at the same time and Andi hooked her leg onto his hip to balance herself as she threw her head back as far as she could bend over. Within another moment, she was upright again, though her hair now looked beyond tousled, and she and Sean kicked out in time to the rhythm. The whistle started up again and she and Sean took to circling about the floor a moment to catch their breaths, all the while clapping their hands to get the crowd in on the fun as well.
I wake up to the city of angels
To see my name headlining the coast
They say I'm a walking dreamer, baby
If I stop they would make the show
Can't keep up with my rhythm
Though they keep trying.
Too quick for the lines they throw.
I walk to the sound of my own drum,
It goes, they go, we go, hey yeah yeah yeah
The crowd was more than willing to accommodate clapping along as Sean and Andi picked back up again, and Andi nodded to Sean as they prepared themselves for what was coming next. It was the main reason they had been practicing as long as they had, but it was about to be worth it if they nailed it this time.
Oh, here we go
Feel it in my soul
Really need it, need it, so go
Gotta feel it, body takes control
Really need it, need it
Hey, here we go
Feel it in my soul
Really need it, need it, so go
Gotta feel it, body takes control
Really need it, need it
The chorus came in again, with Sean and Andi both turning to each other and spinning once again. Sean threw her back out on the ‘Hey’ and Andi immediately went into the ball and chain that they had practiced in there. Their arms flew out in a dramatic pose as they froze on the word ‘go’, only to pick up once again a moment later as Andi began bouncing her way back over to Sean.
A hip hop beat brought Sean’s focus into a fine acuteness that he had never experienced before when they had practiced their routine. His body began moving on automatic as Andi gave him room to dance, all the while keeping the crowd going as she clapped her hands in time to the beat. Sean’s arms pulled a Robot in time, though as the song sang ‘Everybody Walk’ his knees kept drooping closer to the floor. As soon as they hit, Sean began whirling his body around in time to the beat, and he heard Andi shout in adulation as he nailed it. Though he had been practicing this hip hop routine for months, this was the first time everything had come together so smoothly.
Oh, here we go
Feel it in my soul
Really need it, need it, so go
Gotta feel it, body takes control
Really need it, need it
Hey, here we go
Feel it in my soul
Really need it, need it, so go
Gotta feel it, body takes control
Really need it, need it
Sean popped back onto his feet as the chorus came in for the last time, and he and Andi both smiled as their feet and hands moved in unison. On the last beats of the song, the iconic whistle that had all but burned itself into their ears, Sean took to a knee as Andi sat on it, both of them seemingly talking as if none of their dancing had just happened.
The applause that they heard from their families was deafening in of itself, though it was quickly joined by the cacophony that was the rest of the restaurant. It seemed the decision to hold Sean and Andi off until last was a universally good one.
“ Alright! Time to hear from the judges about how well these two did! Adele, Fernando, Julio. What do you guys think about the show we were just treated to?” the DJ called over the intercom in an effort to quiet the crowd.
Sean swallowed hard again, though he couldn’t deny that he had built up a hell of a thirst with that performance. He slipped his hand into his right pocket where the ring box was. This was it…
“ I’ve been watching you guys perform here for the last two years. I still remember the first competition you were a part of and I can’t help but still be held in awe in what the two of you come up with.” Adele said brightly. She quickly flipped her card up as she looked to Julio next, and she heard a low confused murmur ripple across the crowd at the sight of it.
Andi was also curious as to all hell as to why her name was on Adele’s scorecard.
“ Well, I was expecting something latin themed, considering where we’re at, but I’m glad you guys held to the open competition point. That was entirely too much fun to watch! Hey Sean, teach me that move sometime will ya?” Julio also flipped up his scorecard and all three judges saw Andi’s eyes go wide at the words ‘Will you’.
“ It doesn’t take a genius to see where this is going.” Fernando chuckled as he too just flipped up his scorecard.
Andi was nearly hyperventilating as she sat on Sean’s knee and she looked at the scorecards again as if she were misreading them.
There was no mistaking the message however.
It read ‘Andi, will you marry me?’
Her blue eyes turned to look down at Sean, though she nearly screamed when she saw him holding up an open ring box to her. Sean quickly righted her before Andi toppled off in shock and he took a deep breath.
“ I love you, Andi, and you’ve made the last two years of my life the happiest I’ve ever known. I know things will change a little once you hear back from Harvard and move to Boston and all, but I don’t care. As long as I know you love me, the distance won’t matter. I’ll still be up there every weekend to visit you…” he whispered. “ Just say you’ll marry me. I can wait until you feel you’re ready.”
Andi felt like she was a blubbering mess as she all but tackled Sean to the floor in a kiss. “ Yes, Sean, yes!” she cried happily between kisses. “ I’ll marry you!”
Both their families nearly erupted out onto the dancefloor the minute they heard the affirmative and Sean hummed happily as he pulled her in for another kiss, this one deeper and more intense. He didn’t care at that moment, as his emotions were riding sky high in his jubilation at Andi’s acceptance. He didn’t care how long the road was, or how many potholes they hit. He and Andi would always work things out.
Andi was all smiles as she walked back into their apartment. " Sean! I'm home!" She called out happily. “ And as of this very moment, I am free from school for the next two months! WOOHOO!” Andi was looking forward to the break. She had been busting her ass on getting her bachelor’s as fast as she could.
" There's some mail on the coffee table for you sweetheart!" Sean replied in a sing song voice from the office, as he was currently working on paying their bills. He and Andi had been waiting for this letter for the last three months though, the suspense was eating away at Sean as he rose and hurried into the living room. He wanted to see Andi’s face when she opened that letter.
Andi was already reading it when Sean came in and he looked at her worriedly. She had tears streaming down her face. Slowly, she deposited the letter back inside the envelope and she sat down on the couch heavily as she held her face in her hands.
“ Andi, don’t tell me that was a rejection letter. You’re grades are nothing but top notch!” Sean exclaimed, his heart falling at the wave of sadness he felt crashing over him from her. This odd bond of theirs had only grown stronger since he had taken her virginity two years ago.
“ That’s not why I’m crying Sean.” Andi whimpered. “ I’m going to have to move out…And you just asked me to marry you not even two weeks ago!” Her eyes turned up to look at his and she leaned into his embrace as Sean wrapped his arms around her comfortingly. “ You’re looking at Harvard’s newest medical student.”
Sean smiled, though it was bittersweet. “ Should I schedule a flight to Boston this weekend then? This way we can go apartment hunting?”
“ We?” Andi asked, a tearful smirk on her face now.
“ We. I think I have just as much a say in where I’ll be spending my visits when I come to see you every weekend Andi. Just because you’re moving out doesn’t mean I’m letting this go to waste.” He held up her left hand to bring her engagement ring to the her attention and he gave her a quick kiss. “ I’ll do whatever it takes to make this work.” Sean said, smiling tenderly. “ I told you, this ring is much more than a token of my esteem for you, Andi. It’s a physical promise, one that I would like to believe I’ve held for the last two years.”
In fact, the last two years had flown by in such a haze Sean nor Andi could recall much from it. They never addressed it however. They had other things on their minds.
Andi smiled a little ruefully as her forehead came to rest against Sean’s. “ Where would I be without you?” she asked, sniffling a little now.
“ I don’t know...But I know where you’re about to be.” Sean purred. He wanted to cheer her up. With a wide grin on his face, he tossed Andi over his shoulder and made a break for the stairs.
“ Sean Robert Morrison! Put me down this instant!” Andi screeched as he took them two at a time. The bedroom door was shut behind them and soon Andi was screeching his name for an entirely different reason.
Well, Sean had wanted to cheer her up. He had never said that he wanted to hear her laugh.
Amara shook her head as she looked at the position that Sean and Andi had achieved. She needed to reach her before time ran out. Amara’s belly was rather large now, as she was drawing closer to the time when the baby was due and worse yet, her spell was starting to fade. If she and her unborn child stood any chance at survival, she needed to call Andi back so that she could awaken. Otherwise, her labor could very well kill them both.
“ How the hell are they managing that one?” she whispered under her breath. Amara fuzzed back into the limbo plane that she had been stuck on the last couple months. It seemed as if time was rocketing forward to catch their souls up to the ages Gascon and Amara were now.
“ Don’t tell me.” Gascon said with a smirk. He had a mirror up to see how things were transpiring on the physical plane and Amara shook her head in exasperation.
“ Andi is much more flexible than I am.” Amara sighed, though she had a bright blush on her cheeks. “ And you had better not be getting any ideas from the few times you’ve just sat and watched them blatantly.”
Gascon chuckled as he placed a kiss against his wife’s forehead. “ Too late for that. I’ll be attempting a few of those positions once you’ve healed up, wife.” he purred. Some of the positions he had seen Sean use were much too promising to pass up.
Amara blushed brighter at the promise, though she couldn’t deny she was intrigued. “ We don’t have much time left.”
“ I know.” Gascon replied softly, his tone a bit terse now. “ We may need to approach them together once the two of us have had a chance to charge up the energy needed to do so.”
Amara nodded. It was worth the shot.
Sean was agitated. Something didn't feel right in the slightest and whenever Sean had those kinds of hunches, they we're normally right. He was trying to busy himself by working on something for his dad when his cell phone rang. Another six months had flown by since he had asked Andi to marry him, not that he had really taken much notice in how fast the time had gone, but they were knee deep in planning their wedding on top of all their school work. Picking up the phone without looking at the caller id, Sean propped the phone between his ear and his shoulder.
" Hello?" He said, clearly distracted.
" Sean it's Tammy."
Sean stopped what he was doing immediately when he heard the tone Tammy had in her voice. She was crying. " What's wrong, Tammy?" He asked, his voice betraying him in his trepidation. Whatever his future mother in law had to say was not going to be good news at all.
" Sean, its Andi...She was in an accident, her car is completely totalled, she's in surgery as we speak." Tammy whimpered over the phone. " Peter is trying to get a hold of our lawyer. The bastard that hit her was drunk."
Sean nearly dropped the phone in shock and he felt his heart skip a beat. " What hospital is she in?" He asked, his voice cracking.
Tammy told him and Sean quickly looked at the time. " I'll be there in two hours." He said, his eyes watering with tears. Please, by all that is good and holy in this world, don't let her die.
Sean ran into the hall down the way from the OR and he looked over to where Peter and Tammy were sitting. Linnette and Alli were there as well, as Adrian couldn't get away until after his shift. Nathan had opted to stay home with the rest of their children as they had school in the morning." Any news?" Sean asked, his eyes red rimmed from crying the entire flight over.
Peter shook his head solemnly and Tammy shuddered as a fresh wave of tears came on. " No news is good news on the same note." He whispered, his voice hoarse.
The doors opened a moment later and the doctor walked over to all of them. " Mr. and Mrs. Demmers? She's going to pull through. Part of the windshield was embedded in her abdomen and another piece was clear through her left leg, but we were able to remove everything. She has a very severe concussion however, so I don't know how long it'll be before she regains consciousness. She lost a lot of blood and we're working on transfusing her with more as we speak. As horrible as her injuries were, I'm amazed she survived the crash, especially when taking the wreckage into consideration." He said wearily. " Her left arm was broken in three places, but we've set the bone with pins to help the healing process and her left femur was shattered from the impact. I don't know how long it'll be, but with physical therapy she should regain most of her normal movement."
Sean's heart dropped at this news. Andi wouldn't be dancing for a very long time. He sank into the closest chair and held his head in his hands as soft sobs wracked his lithe frame. Despite the despair welling in his heart at her injuries, he was relieved that she would be on the mend.
Andi groaned pitifully. Everything hurt, absolutely everything! " Did anyone get the number of that bus?" She rasped, her throat dry.
" You're awake!" Came a voice she didn't know.
Andi's eyes snapped open, though her vision was blurry at best. " Who are you?! Where am I?!" She demanded, panicking now.
" Calm down Ms. Demmers. My name is Dr. Hames. You're in the hospital. Do you remember why?" He said gently. He was glad that she couldn’t really see him all that well. His eyes were glittering with malcontent as he looked at her.
Andi relaxed into the pillows. " Hames? As in Riley Hames. You were in the pre-med program at Fordham weren't you? I can only remember a blinding flash of light, and then nothing after that." Andi whispered. " Where are my parents? My fiance?"
" I was and Riley is my younger brother. I’m Adam Hames. And as for your loved ones, they stepped downstairs to grab a bite to eat. You were in a devastating car crash Ms. Demmers. You're extremely lucky to have survived. However, it was not without consequence. Ms. Demmers...I hate to be the bearer of bad news..." He could chance some payback for everything this little bitch and Sean had put Riley through. In fact, Riley was back home again after having been gone the last two years.
Sean stood straight up the moment he felt Andi's unspeakable grief wash over him and he leapt from his chair. “ I’ll meet you guys upstairs.” He said quickly, not bothering to explain.Peter and Tammy both looked at Sean curiously as he sped off out of the cafeteria and they followed suit. They could always just come back down again if they were really hungry.
Sean turned the corner sharply, almost slipping in his haste to get back to Andi’s hospital room. She had been moved from the ICU a week ago, and had been out for the last three weeks. He was more than ready to see her smiling face again, to look into her beautiful azure eyes, and to feel her lips against his. Thank god the hospital was so close to the school. Sean and Andi’s parents had been staying at her apartment during the time she had been out. His breathing was labored as he stood in the doorway and his brown eyes fell on Andi hopefully.
Andi was sobbing softly with her head in her right hand, as her left was still in the cast from her arm being broken, and she looked up at Sean with tear filled eyes when she realized that he was standing there. “ Sean.” she whimpered.
“ Oh god Andi...I’ve been beside myself with worry.” he said, rushing over to the bedside and gingerly wrapping his arms around her. She was still sobbing as she gripped his tee shirt and he pressed a gentle kiss into the top of her head. “ Everything’s going to be alright Andi. It’ll take awhile, but you’ll heal…I’ve already gone on sabbatical from school until such is…”
“ Stop Sean…” Andi said, her voice suddenly harsh as she spoke to him. Her gaze was still averted down to the floor and she was shaking in his embrace. She took his hand in hers and pressed something into his palm. “ I can’t do this...I’m sorry, but...I just can’t.”
Sean could feel her heartbreak as he looked down to see the engagement ring she had been wearing the last six months in his palm. “ Andi, sweetheart, what’s going on? What aren’t you telling me?”
Andi shook her head frantically, and Sean knew that she was hiding something very grave from him. “ Just leave Sean….It’s over.” she whimpered.
“ Andrea Elise!” Tammy chided. “ Don’t make such a rash decision! You just woke up...He’s been by your side night and day for the last three weeks…” Tammy was silenced as Sean held his hand up to stay her.
“ It’s alright, Tammy…” he began, his throat tight. “ I told Andi it was her call if we ever broke it off...As much as I love her and as much as it’s killing me to do so, I’ll do as she asks. She doesn’t need the added stress while she’s trying to heal.” He leaned in close to Andi so as to whisper something in her ear. She hadn’t even looked him in the eye when she broke off their engagement, her gaze had been focused on the floor. “ Whenever you feel you’re ready to tell me, I’m just a phone call away, Andi...However long that takes...I’ll always be there for you sweetheart. I love you.”
Andi’s hand gripped the bedding of the cot she was in tightly as she fought off a new wave of sobs as Sean walked out of her life. I’m not going to hold him back...she thought remorsefully. Not if I can’t give him what he wants… “ Mom...Dad...Can I be alone please?” she whimpered.
Tammy was about to protest but Peter stopped her. “ Sure thing sweetie. We’ll be downstairs having lunch if you need us for anything.”
Sean slumped against the steering wheel for a moment as he focused on the feelings of grief and sadness that were washing over him courtesy of Andi. There was something she was hiding from him, something big enough that she had broken it off with him. Sean’s shoulders shook a bit as he joined Andi in her tears. He had meant what he told her, no matter how long it took her, when she was ready to tell him what was wrong, he would be waiting.
He would always love her.
Gascon was leaning against the wall when Sean walked into his apartment. “ You’re just going to let her go that easily?” he inquired, his brow arched in curiosity.
“ Shut the hell up.” Sean seethed, his brown eyes narrowing on the apparition beside him now. “ Why do you keep haunting me like this? Why me?!”
“ We’re one in the same Sean.” Gascon explained, his foot fall silent as he followed him through the apartment. It was getting easier to come and go as he pleased. There it was again, that tugging feeling that Gascon had felt a while back. Damn it all, he couldn’t call his soul back unless Andi was here as well! He and Amara had to become whole again at the same time if they were going to wake up any time soon! “ You’re a very integral part of me that was torn away by black magic. I’ve been trying to reach you because I cannot return to the land of the living without you. I’m currently stuck in a state of limbo as you would say, neither alive nor dead.”
Sean shook his head disbelievingly. “ I figured you would have been ecstatic with this development?” he hissed. “ You’ve been telling me for the last two and a half years that I need to find some other woman.”
“ No, I told you to find Amara’s soul, and you did. There’s no doubt about it, Andi is Amara’s soul.” Gascon replied with a growl. Sean’s petulant attitude was seriously rubbing him the wrong way. Taking a deep breath in, Gascon attempted to center his emotions. One of them had to be calm and collected at least. “ This is the first time I’ve had a chance to talk to you in the last year alone. Again, you seriously aren’t going to let Andi go that easily are you?” Gascon ducked the punch that came flying his way. While he couldn’t explain it, Sean had been able to grab him last time and Gascon wasn’t going to chance that his fist wouldn’t connect.
Sean’s fist collided with the wall and he grunted as he pulled his hand from the hole he had made. He made for another swing at Gascon and the other man ducked accordingly once again, though Sean's clenched fist barely grazed his chin in how fast he had swung. Gascon hurriedly put some distance between himself and Sean, who was now breathing heavily at the pain his hand was in. The wall he had punched had been solid brick. Great, now he had to get the wall fixed! If things kept getting any worse, Sean was going to blow a gasket. “ If you even had an inkling as to what Andi is feeling right now, you’d understand why I’m keeping my distance. She’ll come to me when she’s ready...I know she will.” Sean’s voice was close to cracking as he fought off a fresh wave of tears. Andi was crying again herself and Sean could feel her pain and heartbreak settling over him once more. When he didn’t get a reply to that, Sean looked up. Again, Gascon had disappeared and now he was honestly alone.
“ You should have talked to him about it Andi.” Amara whispered gently as she walked towards Andi’s hospital bed.
“ Leave me the hell alone! How dare you even show up under these circumstances, show yourself to me knowing the pain I’m in at the moment.” Andi hissed, her eyes flashing silver in her anger as Amara took a seat on the bed now. Her belly was only slightly larger than the last time Andi had seen it.
Amara reached over to grasp Andi’s hand sympathetically and her blue eyes met the young woman’s. “ Andi...everything isn’t as it seems. I’m running out of time Andi. I need your help if I’m going to wake again before the baby comes. If that doesn’t happen, both of us are going to die.”
“ See if I care.” Andi hissed, her eyes downcast. “ I would have rather died than live with the guilt I’m feeling now...I wasn’t strong enough...I couldn’t protect…” Andi started sobbing brokenly again and Amara sighed. She would have to try to pluck the compassionate strings of Andi’s heart some other time. Right now, there was no chance in getting through to her.
