Chapter 19- A summons
Pov 3rd, time- same.
"Fringilla?" Geralt asked.
"Yes it is me, I came here because I need to speak with you, Geralt." She said, sounding rushed.
"Go on then." He said in return, in a voice that was apparently too friendly for Triss, who growled at his side, she was very competitive...
Fringilla sighed, and got out a scroll from who the hell knows where... Then she said: "To put it plainly, I need your help." Making Geralt and Triss both raised their eyebrows.
"Oh?"
"I come with a summons from the duchess of Toussaint, she needs a witcher to get rid of a monster in the city." She stated bluntly, not giving any real details at all, she also gave the scroll to Geralt who read it over, then handed it to Triss who diligently read it over.
"Alright, so she has a monster problem? Ok, why should I care? I'm finally settled down, living in luxury, with a woman who loves me more than life itself and I her, so why should I leave?" He asked.
Triss added: "And, he has absolutely no obligation to accept a summons from another countries ruler now that he is a citizen of Kovir." She would have smiled at his description of the life he had with her, but she was too worried that she would lose him for a month or two, especially when he would be going to a country that was three continents away, to the same place, with the same woman, that had an affair with him last time they were together in Toussaint.
Triss wasn't an insecure bitch that didn't trust her lover worth a damn to be faithful and kept him on a leash, no, she wasn't like that. But she did worry, and she was insecure. Although she didn't take any actions to lessen that feeling, she trusted him completely and honestly he's never given her reason to do otherwise. She's the one that has broken his trust time and again in the past, so she would be a hypocrite and a bitch if she was distrustful of him.
That's literally how she saw it.
"I have nothing against the Duchess or Toussaint, what I am against, is leaving... I just got here, Fringilla, I don't want to leave now."
Fringilla looked discouraged, then she opened her mouth, but he cut her off.
"I know what you're going to say and I don't care how big the reward is, I don't want any gold, and I definitely don't need it, so please just leave me be, Fringilla, have a good day." He said, turning around to walk back into their house, Triss following him.
"Wait!" She yelled, making them both turn back around to look at Fringilla (again.)
"Geralt, please. People are dying, innocent people, in brutal ways... We need you, please reconsider." She pleaded.
Geralt looked at her for a few seconds, contemplating what he wanted to do, he did not want innocent people to die, but he also didn't want to leave Triss...
"What kind of Witcher, or actually what kind of person, would I be if I stayed here in Kovir, plowing Triss every night while innocent people died? Knowing I could have done something to end it? I would be a world class selfish dick, that's who." He thought to himself, as he looked back at Fringilla.
Geralt sighed, "Alright..." He conceded, "I'll go."
He looked down at Triss to see her almost on the verge of tears, just barely holding them back to preserve her dignity in front of their less than likable audience. Triss did not like Fringilla, she was a member of the lodge, she had had an affair with Geralt, and Triss knew that she did not ever get over him either. Fringilla had had a sexual relationship with him in Toussaint the last time they were there together, much to Triss and Yennefer's dismay... but Fringilla had fallen in love wit him, but she had just not been able to compete with the two stronger sorceresses, Triss and Yen, and Geralt had just not reciprocated the feelings back to her. He had just enjoyed the fun he had with her in Toussaint, and didn't want to continue it into a love relationship, not when he had Yen and Triss fighting for him.
"Thank you, Geralt, you made the right choice, when do you wish to leave?" She asked, completely ignoring Triss's hurt expression.
"Not today, we'll go in the morning." He said, knowing that Triss would be a lot happier if he at least stays the night. Just as he expected her ears and lips perked up, and a (happier) tint came to her eyes, but there were still tears threatening to break lose.
That didn't last long because as soon as they got inside she let the tears flow, either that or she couldn't hold them back anymore, or maybe both... Probably both, she just starting sobbing, wrapping her arms around his neck, letting the tears flow.
Triss was and is a very emotional woman, and the thought of having to give him up for what could be months, away from him, lonely, was a very traumatizing and tear jerking realization for her. She hated to be away from him, dreaded it, lonely months of sleeping in an oversized bed designed for two of them, now she would be all alone. At least he would stay the night, at least.
When he left her at Loc Muinne she had gone to Novigrad, the literal frying pan, and she had cried her eyes out every night for months. When she first went there she got a nice suite on the main square, it was both spacious and relatively private... Private so that no one could hear her sobs at night, sobs that were caused by her loneliness. Her whole life was dedicated and centered around him, and she had to start a whole new life, put on a 'new-Triss' mask to hide her grief and pain of losing him. She doubted it would be any different this time, except this time she also had to worry about the love of her life getting killed and not coming back.
Oh gods... if she lost him because he died she would be absolutely shattered, she probably wouldn't be able to get past the grief for years, gods forbid she would ever be able to move on, never. She wouldn't be able to move on for many reasons, one of them being she could never imagine a man other than him, touching her. Whether in life or in death, she was Geralt's and his only, nothing would ever be able to change that. If she died, she would hope that he would be able to move on, she wouldn't want him to be lonely for the rest of his life if she died. They had had this conversation before, but he had always immediately told her to "stop talking like that," it was thoughts like these that made her consider whether or not she really values herself...
"Triss..." He cooed softly, rubbing her back with his hands, attempting to sooth her.
"We just got here! How could you leave me? So easy?"
(A/N: Plays "Momma can you die from a broken, heeeeaaaart! Ok, I had my moment... I'll leave now.)
She cried, pounding his chest with her fist.
"Triss... I have to go, I am a Witcher and it's my job to protect people from being killed by monsters."
She was silent for a few moments, the only sound in the room being the sound of her soft crying, muffled by his neck, and the sound of his hand rubbing along the fabric of her shirt as he caressed her back.
She sniffed hard (the way you do when you cry) and backed away from him just enough that she could look up at him, then she sighed and said: "I won't stop you from being who you are, nor will I ever try, all I want is to be with you, I don't care the conditions or the arrangements... I don't want you to leave, but I agree that no one else should have to die in Toussaint. We'll talk more in the bedroom, for now though, I really need more alcohol."
She finished by wiping her eyes, and turning away, back towards the couch. He followed her and they sat down together, Triss filling her goblet up and taking a heavy swig... You knew she was really messed up, because she never drunk heavily unless she really needed some heartbreak medication...
(A/N- Gosh I'm just hammering it with these country music references... Dunno what it is.)
Might ask what Rita was doing during all this? She had just been silently watching the entire thing play out, and now was watching the two intently as they sat in the couch, Triss sitting in Geralt's lap with a full wine goblet in her hand and a mighty dissapointed and hurt expression on her face. But she tried to make the best of it and try to act as if she was ok, the thing was, everyone knew it was just a mask.
Geralt was deep in thought, running through every possible thing he would need to take with him and what the "beast of Beauclair," could be... He also was thinking of things like how long he would be gone and where he would stay while he was in Toussaint. And of course he was thinking or Triss, as he often found himself doing, she was everything to him.
"Well? I doubt you want my comments on that whole exchange, so what now?" Rita asked.
"We drink, lots." Triss said, and took a big swig of her wine, to which Geralt just rolled his eyes. Triss wasn't a very wine tolerant person, but he knew that, and he also knew how it affected her... it was her heartbreak medication (aside from him of course,) a mild medication compared to him, and it also made her very horny... Not when she was around anyone else, but only for him, when she was at home like this.
"I need to go to the bathroom," Triss announced, taking a sip of her wine and putting it on the table, then getting out of his lap and walking into the hallway, walking surprisingly straight considering the wine.
As soon as Triss was done the hallway, Rita of course had some comments to add.
"You really hurt her, Geralt." She simply said. And Geralt frowned, not too sure what he thought about having this conversation with Rita.
"I know Rita... I'm not happy about it, but I do have to go, I'll try to get back here as soon as I can. I am not thrilled of leaving either."
"Doesn't make it any better thought, does it?" She asked.
"No, it doesn't..." He admitted, looking down at his own goblet of red wine, frowning. He was not going to like leaving Kovir.
I know it was short... I'm sorry.
Please guys leave a review for this chapter, please, if you appreciate this story or me, please do it...
I found a Triss and Geralt witcher story that had been abandoned because the author was getting so little support, and I really don't want to end up like that, so PLEASE please leave a review.
It would really be appreciated and give me a HUGE confidence boost, please.
