Kilik put on a smug smirk, one that was used before a
battle. “If it isn’t the woman who also vanished... back to your laboratory I
presume, Ivy?” He understood why he had felt that sinister presence now.
Whenever he was near Ivy, forces of Cervantes, her true father, seemed to rub off on her. He felt that now dead
pirate’s evil glow all the time.
She nodded her head slightly, placing one hand idly on her
hip. “I went into studies of alchemy. What about you Kilik? What have you and
Mitsurugi been doing here for these passing years?”
Kilik stood his rod up. “Edgemaster left. We’re watching the
Proving Grounds for him while he is away.”
Ivy nodded slowly in understanding. “I see...”
“What’s brought you out of London?”
Ivy wiped back her Ivy Blade with a smirk. “I left on the
most pressing rumors, and since we go back Kilik, I thought I would let you in
on it.”
He lowered his head. Rumors...he already knew what they
were.
“What?” She asked. “No interest in the battles these days?”
“I already know what it is you’ve come back for,” he began.
“Oh do you? Well, I have news I’m sure you haven’t heard,” she began once more.
“I don’t think I want to hear it.”
“ Sure you do.” Ivy’s walk towards Kilik was full of power
and no fear. She leaned in close to him. “Soul Edge was been broken into two
pieces.”
“Two?”
She smiled her pretty, painted lips. “Nightmare has one
half, and Cervantes is roaming the world for the other missing shards to the
second. Pieces that were in his body from the battle with Sophitia Alexandra
have given him the life of an undead man. So now, he is anything but a dead
memory.” She paused, flipping back her short, platinum hair. “On my way here
from London, the villages I past
were spreading the word of an evil man carrying a huge ax.”
“Astaroth,” Kilik spoke.
Ivy nodded. “That’s what I figured. I can only assume he’s
back at Nightmare’s side. No doubt killing more people to feed the Soul Edge.”
Kilik looked down at the ground, pressing the palm of his
hand to his brow. “This is so...” He paused, trying to think up a great word to
describe the current state, but only came out with, “bad.”
Ivy laughed and crossed her arms in a slow, suggestive
manor. “Bad, eh? Yes, I can agree with you. It is bad.”
There was a short silence between the two, reluctant
acquaintances, before Mitsurugi left the temple, and joined their sides. “Did
you tell him?” He asked Ivy.
“I did indeed,” Ivy informed. She glanced back in Kilik’s
direction, sensing the invisible weight falling on his shoulders. “So Kilik,
this has happened once before, and none of us were true friends.” Her eyes
narrowed. “I am not saying we are now, however, I think it may be for the best
if we all pull together on this one.”
Kilik shook his head. “I can’t.”
“Of course you can, dolt.” She grumbled in an annoyed manor.
“Mitsurugi and I have both talked about it, and we think that a combined force
against Cervantes, Nightmare, and Astaroth, could be the final chapter in this
crisis. Kami-sama knows that we’ll need the strongest force we can muster. We
might as well put aside what differences we have and just kill these bastards
now.”
Kilik shuddered as he squeezed his eyes shut. “No- you don’t
understand. I can’t do this again.” He looked up. “It hurts, too much. I try too
hard to lose myself in training. Just the thought of the Soul Edge reminds me
of all the horrid things I’ve done. All the people I’ve killed...it was all my
fault.”
“Hey!” Ivy shouted, quickly snapping him back to reality.
“You’re not the only one that has lost something because of that damn sword,
Kilik. I lost my adopted mother and father, you don’t think I grieve for them?”
“It’s not the same!” Kilik shouted, gripping his rod tightly
in his hand, so that his knuckles burned white. “Because of that sword, I massacred everyone in my home. I killed my sister. I was the reason that Maxi’s crew was slaughtered. I just can’t
face that horrible dilemma again!” Kilik turned on one foot, having the right
intention to storm away from the two, but was quickly stopped.
Yunsung was staring at him, from a short distance, a sad
expression painted to his face. “Kilik...”
Narrowing his eyes, Kilik barged past the teen, but was
gripped by the arm, and dragged back.
“Let me go,” Kilik ordered.
Yunsung shook his head. “No.”
“Don’t make me hurt you, Yunsung,” Kilik warned.
“Hurt me then, but I’m not letting go,” he answered,
softening his grip slightly. “Kilik, for the rest of your life, you’re going to
be plagued by those memories.”
“Thank you for the support.”
Yunsung shook his head. “Only if you don’t do something
about the cause. Ending the havoc and bloodshed that those men and that sword
are starting again just may help you cope with your own inner battle.”
“I don’t need your advice,” Kilik barked, ripping his arm
free. He turned away, walking away once again.
“Please Kilik,” Yunsung called out. “I’ll go with you. I
won’t leave your side until it’s all over, and I know that you’ll be okay.”
Kilik stopped.
Ivy leaned close to Mitsurugi, and whispered with a tone,
“how touching.”
Mitsurugi crossed his arms, remaining silent through the
ordeal.
Kilik didn’t turn around. He couldn’t make his legs move,
but he did think those words over for a moment. Yunsung promised to be by his
side the entire battle. Was he going to leave once the Soul Edge was destroyed?
Would he just, leave Kilik?
For how long?
Months?
Years?
Forever?
He didn’t want that. He also knew that Yunsung wasn’t going
to stay at the Proving Grounds the rest of his life, despite any situation. If
he could just spend a few more days with the young man, then...so be it.
Yunsung began to walk towards Kilik, and he stepped in front
of him. “You’ve stopped walking, does that mean that you’re going to go with
Mitsurugi and Ivy?”
“And you,” Kilik finished.
Yunsung nodded with a smirk. “Right, and me!”
Kilik sighed however. “It’s not a Sword of Salvation,
Yunsung. Nor is it the Hero’s Sword. You do believe me, right?”
Kilik and Yunsung had first met, arguing over the very
sword. At the time, Yunsung was convinced that it was a powerful weapon he
could use to help save his country from a war they would lose. He felt the need
to go in search of it when Hwang Sung Kyung, a former friend of Kilik’s, was
unable to bring it home. Having been in the first battle with Nightmare and
that hideous sword, Kilik had to convince the naive boy that it was only for
destruction, and Hwang didn’t bring it back for that reason.
“I know that, now,” Yunsung replied. “You’ve knocked that
upside my head enough times. When I returned home last year, at the beginning
of my self proclaimed adventure—” he paused to chuckle.
He was convinced that he was destined to embark on a heroic
journey of his own, and had left to begin it the year before, only after him
and Kilik had become close. The adventure turned into nothing but a hassle,
boredom, and causing the teen to go broke from travel expenses.
“When I returned home,” he began once more. “Hwang had come
back from the war. He explained the story to me, but he left quickly after. He
was called back into duty, and I have yet to challenge him to a proper battle.”
Yunsung saddened at the thought, but quickly popped back to the current
situation. “I know that this is dangerous. I also now what it means to some of
my closest friends.” He gave Kilik a strong smile.
“Friends,” Kilik
echoed.
Yunsung nodded. “You got it. So what do you say?” He held
his hand out, hoping Kilik would embrace it in agreement.
He was hesitant, but finally, the young, brown haired man,
lifted his hand and took Yunsung’s. “Alright. Till the end.”
-
The four stayed in the temple, talking plans over for hours.
It was dusk before they even stopped to eat, and Kilik was grateful for the
break. He left into a door leading further into the temple, going to retrieve
some dinner for Ivy, Yunsung, Mitsurugi, and himself.
“How did you and Kilik meet?” Ivy asked as soon as the young
man had left the room.
Yunsung stopped rubbing the back of his neck from the slight
ache he had and said, “I met him right here, a little over a year ago. I had
heard that a student at the Proving Grounds in Regulus Plain knew about the
Soul Edge. At the time, I was looking for it.”
Ivy stretched her legs out before herself, soothing the
cramped muscles from sitting on the floor for so long. “I see.”
“Kilik knew a man named Hwang, do you?” Yunsung asked.
Ivy nodded. “Knew him well. One of the warriors we all
seemed to encounter during the last run for the sword.”
“Well, I attended the Seung Dojo, the same one that he did.
I found out about the sword through him,” Yunsung finished. He took a glance at
Ivy making herself comfortable as she leaned back, not at all too shy about
what she had to offer. He perked an eyebrow slightly, curious about whether or
not she ever got cold in such a revealing getup.
“What?” Ivy asked innocently.
“Nothing,” Yunsung threw back.
“Dear Ivy,” Mitsurugi began. “Your cleavage is hanging out.
It was only a look of curiosity,” he said, informing the woman of Yunsung’s
expression.
Ivy’s eyes gleamed with a deadly and enticing spark as she
turned back to Yunsung. “Oh... not lusting over any of little old me? What a
shame. I could have had a reason to practice some of my new moves on you.”
Yunsung crossed his arms and looked away. “I have no reason
to lust over your overly exposed body, thank you.”
“That’s right, I forgot that you and Kilik had something
going on,” Ivy returned, flipping some hair from her eyes.
Yunsung shot her a look.
Kilik was just then, standing at the threshold of the room,
balancing four bowls of hot rice. He didn’t move, he wanted to hear where this
conversation went.
Ivy straightened herself out from the luxurious pose she had
taken while relaxing her muscles. “You can’t tell me there is nothing going on
between the two of you.”
“Well, you’re wrong. There isn’t anything,” Yunsung sharply
retorted.
Kilik sighed and looked down at the floor, wanting to melt
away into the cracks and never come out.
“Don’t lie Yunsung. You’re too young to begin such a bad
trait,” Mitsurugi began.
Ivy laughed.
“I’m not!” Yunsung protested. “Or...well, I don’t really
think there is anything going on. We just don’t really let any emotions get in
the way.” He wished he could have told the two how he really felt.
Kilik gripped the sides of the bowls he was holding,
tightly. “That’s all my fault,” he
thought. “Forgive me, Yunsung.” He
then took a deep breath and hurried into the room with the cooling dinner.
-
The four retired to sleep a short while later. They planned
on leaving the next morning, and when Kilik brought up the issue with the
students at the grounds, Mitsurugi promised that he would have it taken care
of.
Kilik didn’t ask questions. When Mitsurugi said he was going
to do something, he did.
Instead, he lay awake in bed, pondering over anything and
everything that might happen after that night.
Yunsung rolled over, sighing contently as he nestled up
against Kilik’s back and slowly wrapped his arm around his waist.
Kilik rolled over to look at him.
“I’m sorry,” Yunsung began, taking his hand off.
“No—it’s okay,” Kilik answered, reaching out and putting his
strong hand back around his own waist.
Yunsung smiled.
Kilik raised his hand and nestled it into Yunsung’s soft,
red hair. After a moment, he trailed his fingers down the side of his face,
tracing Yunsung’s jaw line. Kilik placed his hand under his chin and leaned
close, kissing him slowly. “Yunsung, I have something I need to tell you,” he
spoke after removing his mouth.
“What?”
Kilik faltered for a moment. Was he really going to say what
he wanted to? Of course not. He didn’t speak, and when Yunsung was about to ask
him for a second time, Kilik covered Yunsung’s lips with his once again.
The night was long, and Yunsung found himself, once again,
holding Kilik’s comforting and sleeping, naked body against his own. He fell
asleep moments later.
-Thanks for stopping by for the second chapter. Come back
