Chapter 2

I’m still not sure on where I’m going with this story, but I did decide to make another chapter for you guys so enjoy!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sora Pov

The sound of thunder rumbling brought me out of my daze, just in time to hear what my next homework assignment was before the bell rang, signaling the end of school. I quickly packed up my stuff and left, eager to get out of the class. I melded into the crowd of students rushing to get home before the approaching storm arrived. Once I reached my locker I opened it and exchanged my stuff before closing it and locking it up. I then went to the front of the school casually chatting with some friends.

Waiting for the right moment, I slipped away and went around the school as best I could without being seen. Making sure that I wasn’t being followed I made my way towards the back part of the school where the entrance to the roof was located. I liked to go there to think, it was quiet and secluded and a great place to just to get lost in my thoughts and clear my head. The unique thing about my school is that it was built right by the water, so the view of the ocean, from atop of the roof is amazing. Another great quality about it is, that not many people know about it. Well of course they know there’s a roof, but not many people know how to get there. I surely didn’t know until I stumbled across it.

It took me only a couple of minutes to get there. As I opened the door to get up to the roof I heard a loud crack of thunder and felt droplets of rain hit my face. I stood there for a moment contemplating on whether or not I should still go up. I didn’t really care that it was raining so I went up the stairs letting the door close loudly behind me. Today I couldn’t really be bothered by things. To much has been happening lately and this has been the only time in a while that I could get away from everything.

Walking up all three level of the staircase I came to the door that opened up to the roof. A weird feeling passed through as my hand hovered near the handle. I shook it off then opened up the door and stepped outside.

The sight I stumbled across when I reached the outside was shocking and made me gasp in surprise. I couldn’t really feel or hear anything that was going on around me. I was too transfixed on the site in front of me. For on the ledge in front of me, amidst the storm, was someone I knew all to well. And from the way he was standing, I could tell that if I didn’t act now…

well I didn’t want to think about what could happen.

But what could I do to help? I haven’t properly spoken to him in years. Not since our friendship fell apart. What would happen if I tried to speak to him now when he’s like this? Would he listen? Would I make things worse?

I’m not even sure on how I would react, talking to him after everything that went on between us. But I can’t just let him do this…I have to do something to help.

Sora cautiously walked over towards the boy on the ledge. When he was close enough Sora stopped behind the boy. He hesitantly called out to him, not wanting the boy to get frightened and fall.

Sora Pov

“Ri-Riku?” I heard myself call out to him.

I watched him as he turned his head towards the sound of my voice. His silver hair, darkened a shade by the rain, was plastered to his face as his clothes were soaked to his body, probably from how long he’s been out here. How long he was out here for, I couldn’t tell.

“Sora” I heard him say in a tone that I couldn’t recognize. “What are you doing here?” He asked turning his head away from me.

I ignored his question and asked one of my own “Riku what are you doing?”

“What does it look like?” he replied in a monotone voice.

“Why Riku?” I asked quietly.

He turned away from me again but still answered my question. “Because my life is so screwed up” I heard him cry. “Nothing matters anymore, all I have and feel is nothing but pain, so I’m doing what’s best to end that pain.”

“Riku please don’t do it” I said, coming closer to him, as a way with reasoning with him.

“What do you care if I do it or not?” he snorted.

I have to admit that his response did indeed hurt; it hit something inside of me that made tears start to stream down my face, and cry out the first thing that came to my mind. “Because I care about you!”

“What?” he asked quietly confusion apparent on his face.

“Riku-“ I sighed. “I’ve never stopped caring about you.” Seeing the confused look that he still held on his face I decided to go into more detail. “Sure I was hurt by what you did, but I never stopped caring because somehow...I knew that you still cared for me.”

Hearing my words must’ve affected him in someway, since he was now shaking with tears. “S-sora I’m s-so s-sorry.” I herd him cry out to me.

“It’s ok Riku, It’s going to be okay. I’ll help you. I’ll help you get things turned around. I’ll help you get your life back on track.” I paused and extended my hand out towards him. “Just take my hand. Let me help you.”

He looked down at me, probably unsure if he should accept my help or not. Suddenly the rain stopped and I saw him give a small smile, and I knew that things were going to be all right. I gave him a small smile as well, as I watched him reach out for my hand.

What happened next is something I never anticipated. I should’ve done something, anything instead of just standing there. I watched him slip as he reached for my hand. I watched him lose his balance as he fell backwards over the ledge.

I could only stand there helplessly as he fell further and further away from me, downwards towards the ocean. I didn’t know what to do…I didn’t know what to feel. I was in a state of shock as I watched my best friend, the one I grew up with when we were little kids, fall to his doom. Fall into the water, and be swallowed up by it.
