It was quiet in the land of Hyrule as the sun started to
rise in the sky. A pair of Sheikah walked down from the Kakariko village and in
to the field where the sun bathed the world in gold. The pair of Sheikahs was
Sheik and his father, Shenka.
Sheik stood about four feet and seven inches or so tall and
had to weigh at most seventy pounds. His hair was long, pulled back in to a
loose braid. He wore a simple black and grey jump suit that fit tight to his
body as well as a white scarf around the high collar of the suit. His father
was dressed in similar fashion but his hair was bound back in a tight pony tail
and he did not wear a scarf.
“Father, where are we going?” Sheik spoke up
“We are going to the lake my boy” Shenka smiled before
looking down to his son. “Part of your endurance training. We are going to
sprint there. Break as you need to but be careful of any peahats in the area.”
Shenka smiled and ran off quickly leaving his son to fallow
and try to keep up. Sheik looked in disbelief as his father ran off leaving him
alone in the field. Looking around Sheik fallowed suit. He ran pass a peahat as
it sprang from the ground and started to chase him. Sheik looked back and cried
out as he prayed his feet to move faster.
Around noon they were near Lon Lon Ranch. Sheik got to his
father before falling to his knees panting heavily. He had never found himself
to be so worn out in his life. Shenka squatted down and smiled to his son
before roughing his hair. Sheik looked up his chest burning from the stress.
“Well done my son, you’re half way there.” Shenka smirked
“I… cannot….run… no more.” Sheik panted out
“I figured so I barrowed a horse. Come on” Shenka lifted
sheik up and piggy backed him in to the ranch and over to a horse that was
being saddled. “Thank you ol’ friend.”
“Any time Shenka. Don’t be afraid to come by again just to
visit.” The rancher laughed out and walked to the horse over.
“Will do, Will do. Well we are off to the lake.” Shenka put
Sheik on the saddle before he himself climbed up behind. “See you later.”
“Alright just be careful. I heard the Zora in the lake are
dealing with a tektite problem. I am sure they could use some help.” The
rancher smiled petting the horse before sending them off.
Shenka and Sheik road the horse for about two hours and they
were entering the lake path. It was a nice day, the sky was clear, and it
wasn’t overly hot. They reached the water and saw many tektites skating across
the water. Shenka smiled and looked to his son handing him a few kunai. Shenka
walked to the water’s edge and dove under quickly and swam down within a few
moments he surfaced with a Zora and made to the beach.
Sheik stood on the horse and threw the kunai at any Tektite
that came near him. He didn’t know what else to do and could only wait for his
father to return. When Sheik saw his father return with a Zora he ran over
quickly and smiled.
“Good job my son.” Shenka patted his son on the head before
looking to the Zora. “We heard you had a Tektite problem. If you would like we
will help you deal with them. It would be great target practice for my son.”
“If you wish to help you can. We cannot deny you from doing
anything such as practice even if it is helping us.” The Zora smiled to them
and looked back over to the water. “We haven’t had a bad infestation like this
in a while. I only hope it is not an omen of something to come.”
“I hope not as well. Ok my son time to act like a Zora and
swim well. Stay underwater as long as you can and take out the Tektite from
underneath. Don’t worry about not doing well. This is just practice.” Shenka
slipped back in to the water and dove under once more.
“Yes father, I will do my best.” Sheik wadded in to the
water and then dove in
Sheik swam quickly after his father trying to keep up. He
saw a few Zora swim by and point up telling him the Tektites were above him and
watching him. He turned and threw his kunai as hard as he could straight out of
the water and in to one. He hit the
water and sank quickly under. Sheik grabbed his kunai as the monster sank. He a
kick of the corpse he pulled it out and pushed himself up to get air.
Sheik and Shenka worked quickly with the Zora and cleared
the Tektite out of the area. When they finished they rested on a small island
in the middle of the lake. The Zora floating on the water a moment before
another came over to great and talk to them.
“Our queen wishes to thank you for your help in cleaning out
this problem we had. She wishes you to come to our small domain and spend the
night and share dinner.” The Zora spoke proudly to them.
“We would love to come.”Shenka got up and helped Sheik up
“Let us go then son.”
Shenka jumped in to the water again along with Sheik. The
Zora swam over the Shenka and took his hand while another put their arms around
Sheik. They jumped out of the water diving under and down till they reached a
small opening in the rocks. They swam much faster than the two Sheikah ever
could and within only a minute they found themselves in a damp cave of the
Zora.
“Welcome to the Zora Domain little one” The Zora that held
Sheik spoke while Sheik coughed for air, having to hold his breath longer then
he felt he could.
Shenka and Sheik were pulled from the water and escorted up
to the chambers of the Queen. She sat elegantly on the thrown chair and rose to
greet them. She smiled and kissed Shenka’s cheek and Sheik’s head.
“Welcome, and thank you for all your help. Please let us
show you our thanks with dinner and a bed for the night.” The queen spoke out
happily.
“Thank you, your majesty. We are honored to have helped.”
Shenka bowed to her along with Sheik before they fallowed her as she walked
away talking to them.
“I thank you again as you have made it safe for our visitors
tomorrow. We invited a few to have lunch with us but I feared we would have to
cancel because of this problem.”
“If I may ask who are your guest for tomorrow?”
“Queen Zelda and company, they are coming to visit and talk
business, nothing more.”
“I see. Please don’t find us rude if we leave early tomorrow
then.”
“Quite understandable, we know of the distaste your people
have for each other.” The queen Zora smiled “We will escort you’re out so you
can leave shortly after day break.”
“Perfect. We will train around the Lake. Thank you for your
hospitality.”
The queen smiled and nodded to Shenka and they both walked
with Sheik fallowing behind them to the dining hall. Dinner was not overly
extravagant but it was nice. With fried fish and boiled lake plants. With
little chatter they ate and had a good time with each other’s company.
After dinner Shenka and Sheik found their way to the main
hall of the Zora’s Domain. The large pond in the middle with rocks jetting out
was perfect for their training before dinner. Shenka hopped out easily dodging
a few playful Zoras trying to pull him in to the water. Sheik looked to his
father and fallowed out as best he could.
Slipping on a wet stone, Sheik started to fall plummeting
face first to the water below. He never got wet. A Zora came out of the water
and cough him holding him out of the water and smiled before tossing Sheik’s
thin and willowy body in to the air. Shenka smiled and laughed as the Zoras
would catch Sheik before tossing him to another. Sheik himself was confused at
first and a little scare before he himself started to laugh having fun. It was
not every day a Sheikah child got to be thrown around by Zoras.
After about a half hour of playing Shenka gave up training
for the night and joined in the fun diving in to the water. He Swam up and look up putting out his arm and
catching his sun as he came at him. He laughed as they both sank under the
water and swimming back up to get air and laugh a bit more unbeknownst that the
Zora queen watched them.
“Alas another innocent child to be raised to hate others for
reason unknown to him, though the same will be said about the new Princess, I
only hope the goddesses bless them to see the truth.”
The time grew late and Sheik was getting very tired and was
slowly crashing. Shenka smiled and picked up his son and walked them to the room
they would stay at for the night. The Zora’s smiled and waved farewell and good
night only hoping they would come for some fun again some time. Shenka only
smiled as he knew the Zora’s would be wonderful friends for Sheik to have and
could teach him much. That as his final thought Shenka laid Sheik down in his
bed before him to succumb to the need of sleep.
The morning came quick and they father son duo were woken at
dawn so they could leave and train before the Zora’s other guests came. Sheik
and his father swam out quickly and surfaced at the lake before looking around.
The tektites had not returned nor did a new swarm come. Shenka smiled and swam
to the small island in the lake climbing up to it before pulling Sheik up.
“Now for training, I want you to run the outside of the
lake, only three laps.” Shenka nodded
lightly thinking of what his father made him do.
“But father part of the lake borders a cliff.” Sheik looked
to his father not sure how to run around the lake with a cliff.
“Well them make it two laps and I would suggest starting by
climbing the cliff running around then climbing down that way you are the most
tired when you are finished at the cliff.” Shenka smiled at his son and handed
him a few kunai and a chain. “Use those wisely you only get one chain and four
kunai. Now go you must finish before lunch or you don’t eat.”
Sheik looked to his father in disbelief before he ran off
quickly diving in to the water to get to shore. The faster he completed this
mission the better. He looked up to the sky estimating it was about seven so he
had five hours to get around this twice. He walked up to the cliff and stared
determined to beat this challenge.
After a few moments of staring at the sleek smooth side of
the cliff Sheik was about ready to give
up there was no way he could climb without foot and hand holds. He looked to
the Kunai and tried to stab it in the rock with no success. Looking the chain
he up and checked the length finding it wouldn’t reach to the top. There had to
be some trick to this test, every test had an answer whether it was logical or
not.
Shenka just sat back on the island and watched his son in
the distance seeing how long it takes before the boy cracked and gave up. When he did this test with his father many
years ago he to broke down and gave in and that was when he learned a feat that
he found very useful at times. The sun
was raise ever more letting Shenka bask in its warmth.
After a few hours of attempting the climb the cliff finding
a hand hold here and there, Sheik got about ten or so feet up and couldn’t go
any higher. He was looking around for another when he heard a high pitched
giggle from behind and below him. He stopped and looked down and back as best
he could while clung to the wall.
////////////////////////////////
Queen Zelda woke early and checked her date book and hummed
before washing and dressing quickly. She wore a long royal blue gown with a
silver topless tabard with the Hylian crest and Triforce in gold. She headed
out of her room and to her office to look though the mail that should have
arrived. She was looking forward to the next day. She was going to have lunch
with a friend that she did not get to meet often because of conflicting
schedules. She knew her daughter would
enjoy the time out not having to study for a day.
She opened a letter address from the Zora’s domain and read
through it quickly. She hummed softly hearing the lake was overrun with
tektites. The nasty pest they were, she only hoped that it wouldn’t cancel her
date with the Zoras. In haste she wrote
a letter back of concern and offering of help if it was needed. With the letter
sealed and put in the hands of the royal mail carrier it was sure to make it
before noon.
“Mommy!” A Child’s
voice rang through the air causing Zelda to look up from her desk watching as a
child ran in to the room.
The child was a young girl around ten years of age and she
ran straight to Zelda. The girl had bright blue eyes like her mother and
Shoulder length curly hair. She was dressed in a long sleeve, white dress with
a pink tabard that had the Hylian crest on it. Her eyes were watering on the
verge of crying.
“What wrong my child?” Zelda looked down to her daughter
before scooping her up in to her lap. “I have a lot of work to do.”
“Mendila want me to put on the headdress today and I don’t
want to, it’s itchy.” The child cried out not wanting to wear the head
dress. Mendila walked in at the same
time holding the headdress and a brush. “Don’t make me.”
“There you are Princess. It’s unladylike to scream and run.”
Mendila spoke. “I am sorry your majesty, forgive me lack of ability to teach
her proper etiquette.”
“It is ok Mendila. Zelda listen to me you must listen to
Mendila when she is teaching you and you will wear the headdress today.” Queen
Zelda smiled to her daughter. “I promise you tomorrow we will go out together
meet some friends and you don’t have to wear it.”
“Really?” Zelda’s
eyes got very bright getting a nod from her mother. She hopped down from her
mother’s lap and looked up to Mendila walking out with her to finish dressing
and start her lessons for the day.
“Well that’s one thing less to worry about.” Zelda spoke
softly to herself before she went back to her work. There wasn’t much to do for
the day but she wanted to get it done and as much of the next days as well so
she wouldn’t have to worry about having to catch up to much.
“Even in the deepest thought, and the dullest light, you
always seem to look so beautiful.” A smooth male’s voice spoke softly from the
door. “And to have a daughter raised like royalty and not be a spoiled
demanding brat, you truly are a blessed woman.”
Zelda looked up quickly hearing the voice before smiling at
who it was. In the door way was a tall man who looked to be about his early to
mid twenties. He was dressed in a forest green tunic, with a white under shirt,
tan baggy pants and knee high brown riding boots. His hair was a golden blonde
and his eyes were like fresh cut sapphires. He was a sight to be seen and Zelda
didn’t mind seeing him at all.
“Well if it isn’t my friend and Capitan of the Royal Guard.
I am glad you came, I was just thinking about calling you.” Zelda smiled and
waved her hand to the seats in front of her desk. “You know what the plans are
for tomorrow, and well I want to know what your arrangements were.”
“Ah think of the devil and I shall come.” The man smiled
stepping in and shutting the door behind him before he would take a seat on the
chair in front of her desk. “Arrangements are set, myself and the best guards
we have will be escorting you to the Lake for an afternoon lunch tomorrow.”
“Good, Thank you, Garret. You may leave now I have work that
needs to be finished.” Zelda smiled sweetly to him before she went back to a
few papers on her desk. She heard Garret get up but stopped her work when he
didn’t leave but instead walked around behind her desk to kneel next to her.
“Garret, what are you doing? Now is not the time to play games.”
“Who said anything about games?” Garret smiled and kissed
her deeply. His hand pulled the curtain ropes shutting them as Queen Zelda put
her arms around him replying deeply to his kiss only to have him break it. “You
know it’s not often we both can be alone together and spend some time without
work or kids.”
“Garret shut up and kiss me.” Queen Zelda pulled him close
and kissed him deeply as he moved to pull her from the chair and to a small
love seat in the room so they could be more comfortable.
//////////////////////
Princess Zelda smiled as Mendila did her hair and put the
head dress on her head. With little to no fuss they were able to get right in
to Princess Zelda’s studies. Foe her lessons this day it was going to be
something simple and nothing to taxing as the girl wasn’t going to be there the
next day.
“Ok Zelda we are going to learn wind magic today and we will
finish up with a few lessons of the Sheikah tribe.” Mendila spoke quickly and
sternly not giving any room for debate, or so she thought.
“Why do I have to learn about the Sheikah tribe? If the
Hylians and them don’t get along, what’s the point?” The infinite wisdom of a seven year old, how
subtle it is.
“Zelda my dear, do you hate me even though I am part
Sheikah?” Mendila spoke softly to the girl.
“No but you’re my auntie and you shouldn’t hate family.”
Zelda spoke up not sure what she meant.
“Ok, what if I wasn’t your aunt would you hate me?” Mendila
watched the girl as she went in to deep thought about the question that was
asked.
“I guess not because I know you.” Zelda smiled to Mendila
knowing she was right,
“The only reason Hylians and Sheikah don’t get alone is
because they don’t know each other, they are jealous of each other, and because
of a big misunderstanding long ago.” Mendila smiled to Zelda
“So if I know them I would have no reason to hate them. I
want to make them my friends that way we can all get along.” Princess Zelda
chimed out brightly.
“Big ambitions there, but to make them your friend they will
have to want to be yours too. So why don’t we start by learning their history
and understand the race before we go and meet them. “Mendila couldn’t help but
smile at the child’s innocence. “Now let us get to your magic lesson first so
you can have something to practice after lessons are done.”
The lessons for the day went smoothly and Zelda picked up on
the new magic like a sponge picked up water.
Then she learned the history of the Sheikah, the proud race that it was.
She learned that they don’t know magic, but had great abilities of fighting,
meditation, and survival. She also learned that the Sheikah used to be a major
race just like the Hylians. She learned
a great deal about them enough to make her actually envy them for their ability
to survive even after everything they had gone through. At that moment Zelda
was determined to make friends and peace between the races even if it killed
her.
The rest of the day went by smoothly and around six at night
dinner was served and the queen and princess ate together. Queen Zelda listened
to Princess Zelda talk about what she had learned and smiled nodding. She
learned the same thing but she just humored the girl as she spoke letting sound
smart for the time being.
“And I learned how to use wind magic. You want to see mama?”
“Not in the castle sweetie but I will be more than happy to
see it tomorrow when we are outside.” The queen smiled to her daughter.
“Ok I will not forget.” Princess Zelda smiled as she
finished eating.
Bed time came soon after and with no problems or delays the
castle went quiet. The princess was in her bed room sleeping as the queen sat
in her room on her bed finishing off last minute paper work before bed. She was running a little behind what she had
planned and was hoping to catch it up as best she could, no help from Garret.
She soon fell asleep with papers across her bed and in her lap as the clock
struck midnight.
The morning came and princess Zelda, in a white and pink
common dress came running in to the queen’s room and climbed on to her bed
before shaking her mother. Queen Zelda woke up slowly and looked down to her
daughter and smiled. The little girl had the biggest smile that the woman had
ever seen.
“Good Morning My child” Queen Zelda spoke pushing the papers
to the side and getting up slowly.
“Good morning Mama, Hurry up, so we can leave ok!” The little
girl bounced on the bed before running out of the room her footsteps echoing
down the hall away from the room.
The Queen only laughed before getting up and sifting through
the papers putting them in order. She dressed in a pale blue empire cut, short
sleeve dress, and brushed out her hair. She was going to look like her status
demanded but still be casual because it was only a lunch between friends. She
was soon out of her room and through the hall and at the dining hall joining
her daughter for breakfast.
“Are you ready my dear? Once we leave we will not
return.”Queen Zelda smiled to her.
“Yes Mommy, everything I need is in my trunk.” Princess
Zelda smiles brightly.
“We will check before we leave sweetie not hurry up.” With
that said the mother daughter duo finished breakfast and got ready to leave.
After checking the trunk and working it down to a small
carry bag Princess Zelda was only carrying night clothes, day after clothes,
and her stuffed Cucco. Queen Zelda had her paper work and such that she needed
to finish and her own clothes plus a night book for her daughter. Once done
they walked down to the main hall and it was about eight-thirty in the morning.
They were on their way out the door for their short trip and nothing was to
disturb them or anything.
The ride from the castle to the lake was a splendidly long
trip. It was exciting at first as Princess Zelda got to see the town again.
After they left the gate they saw the large field and the ranch in the
middle. The most amazing thing that they
saw was a caravan of travelers making their way from the Garudo valley to the
Castle town. Some of the Garudo waved and did a few stunts for the young
princess before they were out of site.
Soon the sun was reaching its zenith and they were arriving at the lake
and saw many Zora sitting around the beach and in the water waiting, including
the Queen Zora herself.
“Welcome, your highness, Queen Zelda.” The Queen Zora
stepped out of the water as the two Zelda climbed down from the carriage.
“Please it is just Zelda today no formalities please…”Zelda
smiled before she was cut off a bit but now out of rudeness.
“Well same here then, after all we are friends almost
sister.” The Zora queen took Zelda’s hands and kissing her on the cheek. “I
would hug you but I don’t want to get you wet.”
“Quite alright… Oh this is my daughter. Zelda” Queen Zelda
waved down to her daughter and smiled.
“Hello there little one, you can call me Auntie Azula.” The
Queen Zora smiled to Zelda before looking back to her friend. “Come let’s find
a nice shaded spot and your daughter and roam around its safe here. “ Azula
smiled and walked back down to the water fallowed by the two Zelda as they
walked the outside till they reached a large tree.
“So how is your life down here Azula?” Queen Zelda smiled.
“Well, how about yours up at your castle?” Azula smiled
“Stuffy but what else, too much work.” Zelda looked back to
her daughter and smiled. “Why don’t you go play, I am sure a few Zora kids will
like to play.”
Princess Zelda nodded and walked off till she found the
children and ran to join then stopping at the water’s edge. They looked and
snubbed her off before they swam under the water leaving her alone. Princess Zelda was quite hurt by the fact
they swam away from her and she left the area walking around the perimeter the
lake till she came to the cliff face.
Looking up she saw a young boy clinging to the edge
franticly looking for something. She didn’t know what he was looking for but it
amused her. She smiled before she let out a giggle. Nothing but a harmless
giggle and she watched as the boy fidgeted trying to look back at where the
giggle came from with little success. She was causing more of a problem than
him not being able to see what giggled.
