"Talking" 'Thinking'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 week before Ostagar
Duncan sighed softly as he gazed at the sleeping elf boy. To think, not a week ago, this boy was an apprentice mage.
'No, he is a mage.' Duncan utters in his mind.
Since leaving the Circle with Duncan, Dani had not said a single word.
It was obvious he was still thinking of the betrayal he had suffered by his close friend, Jowan. Duncan could only hope that he started speaking again soon, the king was surely going to ask the boy questions about the Circle.
Yawning ever so slightly, Duncan gazed over at the setting sun. 'I wonder how Alistair and the others are doing at Ostagar without me. Knowing that boy, his trying his hardest NOT to cause trouble with the few mages that are there.'
Growing more tired, Duncan gave in to his need for sleep.
Covering their small fire with dirt, Duncan lays down next to Dani. The young mage had somehow stopped his dreams of the Darkspawn from disturbing his sleep.
1 week later; Ostagar
"Ser Duncan?"
"Hmm?" Duncan looks over his shoulder at Dani.
"You are sure I'll be welcome here?"
Sighing softly, Duncan knew how mages in general were hated and despised.
"I'm sure you will be. There might be a few mages you know from the Circle here."
Nodding happily, Dani gave Duncan a warm smile before looking around at the ruins of the old fortress.
"Ho there Duncan!"*
Startled, Duncan spots the young king of Ferelden.
"King Cailan! I didn't expect..."*
The golden haired king interrupts him. "A royal welcome?"* He laughs and clasps Duncan's forearm with his hand, Duncan returning the gesture. "I'm told you have a new recruit? Is this him?"*
"Yes, your majesty. This is..."*
"Non-sense! We'll be spilling blood together! Ho there, friend! May I know your name?"*
Dani blushes and ducks his head. "I'm Dani, ser."
"You will call him 'you majesty', knife-ears!" one of Cailan's guards shout.
Giving the man a glare, Cailan tips Dani's face up, noting the utter blueness of his eyes. 'Just like Turin's eyes are...'
"Ignore him. Maybe you could tell me about your life at the Circle, hmm?"
Blush deepening at the kings gaze, Dani nodded as best as he could.
"Wonderful! Though I'm sorry to cut this short, but Loghain will send a search party out for me if I'm not back. Farewell... Grey Wardens."
With Cailan and the two gaurds
"Your highness, why did you..."
Cailan cuts the man's words off with a glare. "He is a grey warden and a mage! You best remember that or Maker help you if you anger him!"
Gulping loudly, the stunned guard nodded his head and the two watched as their king stalked into the Teyrn's tent.
"Maker, you'd think that elf was actually important to the king!"
"I know what you mean... But we should get back to duty. Maker knows the Teyrn will have our heads if we don't."
Back to Dani
He sighed softly after Duncan walked away, telling him to find some Grey Warden called Alistair.
'With everything that's happened so far, I wouldn't be surprised if he hates mages too! Or if his a... a Templar! Maker forbid me if he is!'
Dani looked over to where Duncan walked off to.
"Better follow this bridge and find this Alistair person." He mutters to himself.
Walking over the bridge, he gazed at the forest that had started to over grow Ostagar.
'It must have be beautiful here years ago! Even the fortress must have looked wonderful all clean and white!'
To busy gazing at everything around him, Dani walked right into Cailan.
"Sorry!" He shouts automatically.
"No need, Dani. I was actually looking for you."
"Y-y-you were?"
Grinning brightly, Cailan nodded and grabbed the young mages smaller hand in his.
"I was wondering if you'd like to dine in my tent tonight? You can stay in there for the night to! I mean, sleeping on the ground the past week must have made you very weary with sleeping on the ground and all!"
Blushing brightly, Dani looked down at their joined hands, feeling something strange in the pit of his stomach.
"Of-f course I would like to, your majesty. If it's no trouble for you, I mean..."
His grin spreading wider, Cailan took note of how the blush made Dani look... 'Fuck able... Again, just like Turin.'
"Perfect! I'll send my guard for you tonight then!" Cailan winks. "Don't forget to tell Duncan!"
He places a small kiss upon Dani's hand, before leaving the mage in stunned silence.
"D-d-did he just... flirt with me?"
Dani raises the hand Cailan kisses to his face, place his lips over the place the king had kisses.
'I-I can't believe he did that! Anyone could have seen it! Oh Maker, what do I do now? King Cailan obviously wants me, but am I comfortable to be alone with him tonight? What if he comes onto me again? I don't think I could be able to stay if he does.'
Bitting his lower lip, Dani heads off to where the guard at the bridge told him Alistair was.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Walking up the ramp, Dani heard what was obviously an argument between two men.
Blinking, Dani saw a mage and a man in armour.
Walking up to the two, the older mage waved his hand at the armoured man.
"Enough." He snarls before turning on Dani. "Out of my way, fool!"*
"You know, blights just seem to bring people together!"*
Dani stared at the male. "Huh?"*
"Sorry." He rubs the back of his head. "Your not a mage are you?"
"I am, yes. Though I've just been made fully fledged mage one week ago." Dani smiles at the older man.
"Oh." His face drops.
"Is that bad, ser?"
"Huh? Oh, it's just my past you see. I was a Templar before I became a Warden, so mages kind of make me jumpy."
"Oh." Dani frowns slightly, the look not suiting his face. "Well you don't need to worry about me hurting you or anything." He giggles behind his hand slightly. "I don't approve of violence unless it's a last resort."
"So your a healer?"
Dani nods. "Yes, ser. I know all the healing spells that apprentices were aloud to learn. I can do a few elemental magic to, though I don't like to."
"Well I guess we should get back to Duncan." He laughs. "He may not look it, but his very strick on timing!"
Dani nods, warming up to the ex-Templar.
"Oh! You haven't found our other tow recruits, have you?"
"No, ser."
"Oh and please, call me Alistair."
"Okay... Alistair."
Alistair grins at the mage. "Your not like all the other mages, you know. You've got this... purity they don't seem to have."
"Oh?" Again, a frown makes it way onto Dani's forehead. "First Enchanter Irving never said I had purity like that."
"Maybe he wanted to keep it a secret." Alistair wiggles his fingers at Dani, causing him to laugh softly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I see you found Alistair. Finished riling up mages, are you?"
"What can I say? The revered mother ambushed me."
"She told you to sass the mage?"
"I... No. I'll get our other recruits"
Duncan nods and looks at Dani, who was looking down at his feet.
"Is anything wrong, Dani?"
The mage looks up sharply, wincing from the slight pain in his neck from the movement. "I'm fine, Duncan... I um... Won't be able to have dinner with you and the other's tonight." He looks back down at his feet.
Blinking owlishly, Duncan cocks his head to one side. "And may I ask as to why?"
Blushing for what felt like the hundredth time that day, Dani nodded and looked Duncan in the eyes. "King Cailan wishes me to dine with him tonight."
"Ah." Duncan chuckles. "Well, I'm sure he has a good reason for asking." He places his hand on top of Dani's head. "But be careful if the Teyrn is there, okay? He and the king aren't on god terms right now."
Dani nods. "Okay. Why are they like that, I mean, if it's okay for me to know and all..."
Duncan sighs and places his free hand unto his forehead. "It's because Cailan wishes to annul his marriage to Anora, whose the queen and the Teyrn's daughter."
"Oh."
"Yes. It's rumored that Anora is barren."
Dani gasps at hearing the news.
"But that would mean..."
"The end of the Therinin line. But we can not talk of this no more. Alistair is coming with the two other recruits."
Dani nods and looks over his should, the movement making Duncan remove his hand.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"This is Ser Jory."
"Hello."
"And this is Daveth."
"Hello!"
"And this is our latest recruit, Dani."
The mage gives the two humans a small wave.
"Aw! She's shy! Don't worry, love, you don't need to be shy around me!"
"Daveth, Dani is a male elf. His also a mage."
"Oh..." Daveth's face goes pale white.
"Um... Duncan." Dani mutters softly, whiling pointing over his shoulder.
Duncan looks over to where the youngest Warden was pointing. "Ah. Well, I guess will shall see you in the morrow?"
Dani nods and skirts over to guardsman.
"The king said I had to bring you to his tent. If you would follow me, Ser mage."
Walking briskly to keep up with the strides of the human, Dani followed behind him.
