Chapter 1
The doors crashed open, into what looked like a rundown office space. A young woman with short black hair, wearing a skin tight, white pin striped suit jacket, and tight matching shorts strolled in and headed towards the desk at the back of the room.“Pizza again I see.” She stated as she approached the desk.“Pizza’s good for you Lady, you should try eating it sometime, it’s got all your basic food groups in one delicious package.” Responded the man behind the desk. He had shaggy white hair, his bangs hanging in his face covering his silver-blue eyes. He had his feet up on the desk while he ate, looking relaxed as usual.“Whatever you say Dante.” She shrugged knowing full well that she would never win an argument with the man when it came to him eating pizza all the time. “I actually came here with an interesting job that I thought you might like.” She said as she sat on the desk.“I’m listening.”“There is a small village, called Fortuna, on the island just off the coast. It’s about a two day trip from here.” She started.“So what you looking for vacation advise?” Dante asked, being his normal smart assed self.“No you jackass, I heard a rumor that they were collecting devil arms, much like the ones that you keep here.”“Maybe there starting a museum or something.”“Right, and I guess the fact that they worship your father like he was a god, is all a part of their plan to draw people to the island for the tourist season.” Lady responded sarcastically.“Ya right Lady. We both know that people fear devils more then they fear each other, why would they start to worship one?” Dante scoffed.“Sparta did close the gate between the demon world and this one remember. I can see people having respect for that.”“Respect yes, fear, hell yes, but worship, not unless pigs had grown wings Lady.”“Look, I said it was a rumor, but the devil arms are what causes the problem here Dante.” Lady pointed out. “Besides I also heard that they had managed to find Yamato.”At this news Dante sat mouth hanging open, and pizza slice completely forgotten.“How???” He couldn’t even finish the sentence, which was fine because Lady knew full well what he was trying to say.“I’m not sure Dante. I know that Yamato was lost after the fall of the tower, when you lost Virgil, but like I said, I heard that they had found it.”Dante still couldn’t wrap his mind around what he was hearing. That blade should have been lost to the human world forever, and it should never be left in the hands of people who had no idea of its true power. He had to see if what Lady was telling him was true, and if it was, get his brothers sword back.“Alright Lady, you win, I’ll take the job, if only to get that sword back from those idiots. They have no idea what they are messing with.” Dante said as he stood and grabbed his red leather jacket from the coat hanger next to his desk. He then holstered his twin pistols Ebony and Ivory, and grabbed Rebellion from where it was hanging on the wall and slung it onto his back. With that he walked out of his office, and got on his bike, and headed off towards the island with the small village of Fortuna, hoping the whole way that Lady had heard wrong, and that the key to the demon world had not been found by a bunch of religious zealots.
******************A young man, wearing a blue jean duster, with white hair ran quickly through the streets of Fortuna. He couldn’t believe that he had over slept, and when he had promised Kyrie that he would be there to listen to her sing that morning at the church. He hated going, but he knew that she wanted him there for the support, not that she needed it of course, she had the best voice in the village, and everyone loved to hear her sing.As he rounded the corner, Nero skidded to a halt. Not three feet from him were a bunch of puppet demons that had amassed and were blocking his path to the church.‘Damn it, I don’t have time for this, and I didn’t bring Red Queen with me.’ He thought angrily as he watched the puppets come closer to him.‘Oh well nothing to do, but get rid of them.’ He though as he charged into the group of demons. The fight didn’t go unnoticed. Dante had heard the sounds of the battle, and had headed off quickly to see if anyone needed help. When he got there he noticed a large group of puppet demons, surrounding a young man with hair matching his own. The young man’s appearance startled Dante for a few seconds, before he came back to himself. He was about to jump down from the roof he was on and assist the boy, but then he noticed that the kid seemed to have everything under control. As he continued to watch from his perch, he realized that the kid was actually quite strong, and even though he had a handy cap of only being able to us one arm, cause the other was in a sling, he still seemed to have no problems dispatching the demons.‘Hmm looks like this town might be a little more interesting then I was expecting.’ Dante thought as he watched the kid take care of the last demon, and take off once again in the direction of the church.****************Nero made it into the church, and into his usually seat just as Kyrie had finished her song. She smiled when she saw him sitting there, and all he could think was thank god he had made in time. Nothing was scarier, and I mean nothing, was scarier than a pissed off Kyrie, especially if it was because she thought Nero had broken his promise to her. After she had left the stage, he quickly placed the small box with the necklace he had bought for her down beside him, where he knew she would see it when she came to sit with him. He really had no interest in her romantically, he really thought of her as more like a sister, and the necklace was really just a late birthday gift, because he had been in the hospital during her birthday, and had seen it at the gift shop when he had taken a walk one day out of boredom. As the old preacher started the sermon, Kyrie approached, about to ask why he had been so late, but quickly noticed the pretty blue wrapped box on the bench beside him. She picked up the box, and looked to Nero, who was looking at the priest, not even looking at her; it was like she wasn’t even there. She had been trying to get Nero to notice her for awhile now, it frustrated her that he didn’t seem at all interested in her, instead choosing to talk business with her brother, then to sit and talk with her.She was jolted from her thoughts when Nero stood, and turned to leave the church.“Nero, where are you going?” She asked trying to stop him.“I’m outta here; this damn service is putting me to sleep.” He stated as he tried to shake off her hand without it seeming like that was what he was doing.“But the service isn’t over yet.” She stated matter-of-factely, as if that mattered to him. He hated coming to the church anyways. All the praying, and bowing, not to mention all their warped views on people who were different, people like him. He knew that if they ever found out that there was more about him that was different, other than his white hair, and his skill with a sword, they would all turn on him in a heartbeat. He knew all too well what they did to people like him, and it wasn’t pretty.Nero had hope though; he hoped that Kyrie would understand that she wouldn’t turn away from him, like everyone else had. He was about to respond, when the loud sound of breaking glass interrupted the service. He turned and saw a man come down through the air from the broken window above the priest and land gracefully in front of the old man. Before anyone had even had time to blink, the intruder drew his gun, and a loud shot was heard throughout the church. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
