"King Ganondorf, is there something you needed of me?" I ask, my voice shaking as I approach the single male in the entire tribe. A mere child myself, I gaze at the floor as I bow deeply before the young boy destined to lead us all.
"You don't need to call me King yet, Xenri. Until I am old enough to rule and protect the Gerudo, we are equals." The child whispers as he looks down at me, his piercing gaze making me uncomfortable as I dare to look him in the eyes. The Gerudo woman next to him smacks him on the hand with a strip of hide.
"She's a servant girl, Ganondorf. She is inferior to you, and it is not her place to be so familiar to you." The older woman hisses, glaring at me with disapproving eyes. King Ganondorf rubs his hand and glares up at the woman, obviously irritated with her constant presence.
"I'm the King of this tribe, Nabooru. I alone decide who may or may not refer to me as such. You would do well to remember your place." Ganondorf snarls before taking my hand and running with me out into the desert.
"My King, where are we going?" I call out to him, my voice a mere whisper above the shifting sands. King Gannondorf merely laughs and continues running until we come to a small oasis outside a large stone building.
"Somewhere only those chosen by the Goddess are allowed, Xenri." He whispers before leading me into the building. I realize that we've entered the Desert Colossus, and suddenly feel uneasy.
"My King, this is a sacred place, we shouldn't be here. This doesn't feel right." I whisper softly to the King of the Gerudo, but Ganondorf merely snorts in laughter at my comment and drags me along. Had I an ounce of sense, I would have turned tail and fled with him before we ever entered that cursed statue.
It wasn't bad, at first. Twinrova, the combined form of Gerudo elders Koume and Kotake, flew out at us, fighting and cursing us for entering sacred ground, until they saw that it was their King and his servant girl. They split into the two old ladies and began cackling. I was terrified, so Koume flew down to me and told me I had nothing to fear, that they had raised this boy from an infant, and he would be a powerful King someday. I could tell these elders were witches, but I paid no mind. Kotake was chanting something to King Gannondorf, and as I watched, his expression began to change. I screamed as his body began to twist and bend into a grotesque form, his bones cracked and the stench of rotting flesh swept through the room. I cried for him as I watched the boy I served began to mutate into the giant boar he referred to from that moment on as Ganon. Of course, I wasn't spared either. I felt as though my entire being were on fire as a thick white pelt sprouted from my skin. I itched and burned as my bones began to pop and crack, the pain unbearable as a feral shrieking echoed in my ears. When it finally stopped, I looked at myself in the Mirror Shield, and saw a feral beast staring back at me. Koume bent down to me and whispered in my ear.
"Now you can protect your King. You will be his guardian. You will be a Wolfos." The elderly witch hissed, as she and her sister began shrieking in laughter and flew away. Looking towards Ganon, I saw something feral in my King's eyes that I had never seen before. His intelligence, his strength, all of it reduced to raw power and animal instinct as I heard the monster roar. I stood on my four paws next to the beast that was my Master, and I trembled. A short time later, Ganondorf returned to his normal state, but I remained a feral beast. With difficulty, I found I could walk on two legs, though I was suited more to a four legged gait. My mother was furious when I returned, she yelled that I had disgraced my post as a servant to the Gerudo King, but Ganondorf stepped in. He told my mother that he would care for me, that I would serve him as a bodyguard, as my claws and fangs were suited for little else. Through all of this, I only nodded in agreement, my speech stripped from me and twisted into barks, growls, and howling cries.
I served my King faithfully for almost seven years, before that fateful day.
