==LAP 2==
The young woman, Chiya Flower, found herself lying on a mattress in a trash covered room. She brushed her bangs away from her eyes and sat up slowly. Chiya blinked a few times, but it had then become apparent to her where she was. She was home.
Chiya was a young woman in her early twenties without a job, yet she had high hopes that good fortune was yet to come. For the time being, Chiya lived in an abandoned warehouse in the Lower City. The building had little working appliances. Chiya got off of the mattress and entered a restroom, the mirror that was above the sink was still surprisingly clean—but cracked. She began to fix her hair up with her bare fingers. She raised an eyebrow and looked down at her chest, realizing that her shirt was still ripped open.
“What an awful night,” she moaned aloud.
Chiya left the restroom and changed her shirt, now wearing a similar grey shirt. Chiya’s usual attire consisted of a pale green stock hat, purple shorts, and a pair of jackboots. Before leaving the warehouse she noticed the box she had brought back with her. Chiya had brought back an F-Zero engine. The man she met yesterday going by the name of Lieutenant Seppuku stated that the engine was of no use to him, but could be of use to her. Does he mean that the engine’s just trash..? she thought fearfully. Chiya set the thought aside as she had just remembered something that excited her. The annual Grand Prix was about to start today. The grand opening to the grand prix was to start in Mute City later on at night.
The annual Grand Prix was a sports season consisting of five randomly selected racetracks, the winner of the Grand Prix would receive a golden trophy and massive prize money reward. F-Zero was without a doubt the main concern in Mute City. Chiya was one of the many obsessed fans. Anything could happen in F-Zero, as the races were where the most evil of people could compete without police interference. Racers like Captain Falcon use the Grand Prix as an opportunity to fight super villains, as this was one of the easiest ways to get near criminals like Blood Falcon.
Chiya left the warehouse and was heading for the local bar. It was late in the afternoon, therefore she would not likely run into trouble this time. One of Chiya’s toughest questions was where she was to obtain the next parts for an F-Zero machine. The body of the machine would be very difficult to obtain as these were not things one could find in an ordinary junkyard. She needed a body that could fit all of the machine parts.
The bar she was visiting had a drinking limit, only allowing a certain amount of alcohol to be sold per person to avoid over-intoxication. Despite the alcohol limit the bar obtained the most business whenever the F-Zero annual Grand Prix would start. Not only could you watch the races on screen, but gambling stations were also set up.
Chiya entered the bar called, Rough Odds. Many people were inside the bar, despite the fact that the Grand Prix wouldn’t kick off until later in the evening. Chiya sat down on a stool but did not wish to order anything yet. She was still traumatized by what had happened to her the previous night and simply needed time to cool down. Chiya was a strong supporter of anti-alcoholism, firmly believing that bars and taverns should be for conversation and fun only. Rough Odds was one of the few pleasures she had as she lived the life of a bum.
Momentarily after sitting down, a younger man forced himself next to her and sat down with a grin, “What’s a pretty flower like you doing in a place like this?” The man was wearing a brown leather coat and blue jeans, with somewhat shaggy brown hair and long bangs.
“Huh?” Chiya was staring at him in confusion, the term flower threw her off because of her last name.
After studying the man for a few moments, she realized he was complimenting her. She widened her eyes and exhaled slowly. Oh God… she thought with an irritated look. She closed her eyes and revealed a fake smile.
“Oh, I couldn’t possibly afford to go to an F-Zero race in person, so I come here to watch them for free.”
The man smiled quickly, his smile was clearly forced, “Of course, no one living down here gets to see the races in person. The only people able to afford tickets are the upper class citizens, and even they don’t get the luxury seats that others get.”
Chiya remained quiet for a few moments, she was contemplating whether the man was safe to get into a conversation with. She wasn’t very trusting of men after the previous night. Ultimately, she chose to believe that his intentions were truly good, unlike those two criminals. But the fact that the man was hitting on her was fairly oblivious.
Chiya dipped her head down slightly smiling with her eyes closed, “I always pictured that the races are amazing up close, and that there is some kind of smell to it, a smell you would always remember.”
The man spun his beverage around a little, “Smell, huh..?” He looked up at her with yet another unrealistic smile, “Well you got that part right. Whenever those machines dart past all of us it’s as if you can smell the speed.”
It’s as if you can smell the speed… This sentence bounced around the walls of her mind constantly. His words made the race sound incredible up close. Chiya always dreamed of seeing an F-Zero race in person, but could never make the money to even come close to fulfilling this ultimate desire. But of course, her golden dream would always to become an F-Zero racer herself.
“My name’s Earl Bendek by the way. You know I do have a ticket into the race tonight, if you wanted I could try and bring you in with me...”
Chiya’s eyes spun at the offer, the opportunity stunned her. Earl smirked at her, trying to appear as cool as possible. This man she had only met moments ago was offering the best gift she could ever want for free. However, Chiya knew when something was too good to be true. Right, where you’ll bring me into an alley and mug me… She thought to herself.
Chiya shut her eyes with another fake smile, now believing this to be another lowlife criminal, “I’m sorry. I’m positive that you’re a great guy but I had a few issues last night with two men, and I would rather not get into any more messes.”
Earl gasped and widened his eyes. He forced his head down in embarrassment, “Oh no, no, no. Trust me, I understand. I did kind of just insert myself into your comfort zone…” he said with a shell-shocked look. Earl rubbed his chin for a moment then grinned as he quickly had a new plan, “Alright, you can have the ticket for yourself.” Chiya widened her eyes in shock, “But next time you have to go with me, perhaps to the Casino Palace race?”
Chiya exhaled somewhat in relief. She tapped her fingers on the counter constantly as she contemplated what to do. She could tell that he wasn’t a criminal on the account that he had just offered her a very expensive ticket, “You’re very persistent Mr. Bendek,” she muttered with a grin. Chiya momentarily exhaled, “However, I’m going to take you up on your offer.”
Earl grinned victoriously and handed her the ticket, “Excellent.”
The ticket she was given allowed access to the stands in the Mute City race track. Chiya held the ticket up in amazement, she was observing every part of it with glory as if she had just won the raffle. Earl could tell that he had sealed the deal with her, having persuaded her like a dog with a treat.
“I- I don’t know what to say!” she responded in shock.
“You’re welcome, just meet me-” A pager Earl had clipped to his belt had begun to ring. He looked down at the pager, then looked back at her, “I have to go, my boss needs me,” he said as he began to back away from her.
Chiya nodded and waved farewell to him, she had somewhat of a blush on her face. Earl left the bar, and Chiya was now left flattered. Chiya hardly regarded the fact that she now had a date, the race was all that mattered to her. She had no intentions of waiting around the bar, she needed to find a way to the racetrack quickly. The race wouldn‘t start for quite a while, however she would need to make her way to the Upper City without a vehicle. Chiya was too poor to own one.
Later that night, vehicles began rushing down to the racetrack. Chiya had ventured all the way up to the Upper City on foot. The sun had set minutes ago. She was now exhausted from taking such a long trip from the Lower City to the Upper City, much of which she spent sprinting. Chiya had no idea where to go, she stood around the parking lot but momentarily spotted a door people appeared to be crowding around. She merged into the large crowd of people, they were waiting in line. There was an F-Zero official collecting tickets up front.
After about five minutes of waiting, Chiya had given the official her ticket and moved towards the massive stadium door. She was astonished to see how many people were wandering the hallways. Chiya looked nothing like the many wealthy fans. Most of the fans were either from the Upper City or other parts of the universe. Chiya’s clothing was much more bland looking. At long last she found the door leading to the stands which were already open. She entered through the door and widened her eyes. Behind the door revealed all of the chairs, there were at least two thousand people in this area of the stands. With a look of immense shock she took a seat and looked down at the track, which was not yet lit up with lights. Everything felt like a dream to her, the music, the people, the track, everything she dreamed of was in front of her and she was absolutely amazed.
@About an hour later she learned that there was an installed cantina in the vicinity, the track was truly a place of amazement to her. Even after an hour, Chiya still felt her heart beating constantly as she merely sat. Music had suddenly begun to play, and the fans began to cheer. It was at long last time to introduce the racers. Chiya clenched her fists excitedly, then began to bite on her fingers in excitement. The track was lit up with lights and the intercom began to buzz.
“Ladies and gentlemen! The F-Zero committee would like to thank you for attending yet another annual Grand Prix. The season returns and one racer is to leave with one billion credits!” the announcer shouted.
Chiya widened her eyes in amazement, “That’s a lot of money!”
“We will now introduce the contestants!”
A large orange F-Zero machine was bulking its way up the track.
“Number Twenty-Four, the leader of the notorious Bloody Chain, Michael Chain!”
The vehicle stopped just short of the starting line, Chain got out and began flexing towards the fans. Michael Chain was an extremely muscular man, one of the two racers that were born in the continent of Africa.
“Number One, being a machine himself, he can calculate formulas faster than any human on the track; Mighty Gazelle and his vehicle, the Red Gazelle!”
The cyborg drove up to the starting line quickly. He remained inside of his vehicle choosing not to acknowledge his many fans.
“Number Twenty-Five, created in a lab, he is Captain Falcon’s true clone and blood rival, Blood Falcon and his vehicle, the Blood Hawk!”
The Blood Hawk quickly drove next to the other vehicles. Even without exiting his vehicle, it was clear that he was unleashing one of his classic evil laughs to himself.
“Number Seven, a living legend, bounty hunter, and returning Grand Prix champion, Captain Falcon and the Blue Falcon!”
Captain Falcon made his way onto the track. Several fans cheering at the sight of the Blue Falcon, clearly he had the most respect in the entire stadium. Chiya felt her heart beat especially fast at the sight of Captain Falcon. He was her childhood crush.
“Number Forty-Seven, the man of isolation and mystery, Lieutenant Seppuku and the Red Dove!”
Chiya gasped loudly at the sight of the Red Dove, Lieutenant Seppuku’s F-Zero machine. She had no idea that the man who saved her actually competed in the Grand Prix. So that’s why he had the number forty-seven on his machine..!
Seppuku did not give any recognition to the F-Zero fans. He simply drove up to the starting line and slipped in-between the Blue Falcon and Blood Hawk.
However this race turned out, Chiya knew one thing. Lieutenant Seppuku was going to be the one she paid attention to the most.
