An Adventures Untold Tales
Chapter 2 - Toil Beyond Castles
As Bowie and Sarah crept up stairs they almost laughed at the sight before them. It appeared that Chester has returned to sleep shortly after she had headed downstairs because the centaur was passed out with a large puddle of drool having run upon his desk. “Chester… wakey wakey.” Sarah said to him gently.
“I want to go!” He shouted as he was startled awake but then tripped backwards over his hooves. “Oh, hi Sarah. Did you convince Bowie?” He asked her.
However Bowie spoke up first before she could respond. “Yeah, she sucked me in.” Immediately she kicked him and gave an embarrassed scowl. But afterwards the two laughed together as their green haired friend suddenly looked between them as if he had missed out on something.
“Yes, we’ll be going soon Chester.” He nodded and started picking himself up as Sarah turned towards their blond friend asking, “Bowie, so you decided to go?” He smiled and nodded to her. “Great! Let's go! Hurry!” She said excitedly rushing him out the door.
“What? Bowie, you're going? I'm going too!” Chester called out in tow.
(Sarah the Priest and Chester the Knight joined the Force!)
Making their way around the town church two guards stopped the friends in their tracks as soon as they approached the castle. “Halt! Where do you think you're going?”
Sarah quickly stepped up in front of the two boys. She sounded a little nervous but she tried to he aw sincere as she could. “Well… Ummm… yes, Sir Astral called us!”
“Why?” One of the guards spat shortly. The castle seemed to be on higher alert than usual, most likely due to the state of the king.
“We’re his pupils. He left a package behind, and…” Sarah tried but was interrupted by the other guard.
“You want to deliver it to him? Well… Ok, go ahead.” He said, clearly not feeling as strict as the other guard. He did give a heavy cough though before whispering, “Be good in the castle, ok?”
As the three stepped in through the gates all of them marveled at the size of the interior and how different Grandseal seemed inside of the castle from the rest of the town. As they entered what seemed to be a courtyard there were soldiers debating the about the peaceful relations between neighboring kingdoms. Chester was quick to point out the guardhouse which was nearby as Bowie was looking towards the main entryway to the castle proper. However Sarah tugged on his arm asking, “What is over there?” She said, pointing to a small alcove.
As they approached they saw that there was a door hidden away in the corner of the wall. However once they got closer they realized that there was a guard stationed just outside. “Weapon storage!” He suddenly shouted without prompting. “The weapons inside could be rusty. We haven't opened the door for many years.”
“Is it locked?” Sarah asked.
The guard turned to her and said, “Well, no.” Then he opened the door. “Just don't hurt yourself on anything.”
They walked in surprised that the guard wasn't even questioning their entry. As they browsed through the armors and mounted weapons they were somewhat shocked at what they found. “What junk!” Chester yelled. Bowie and Sarah looked at him as he tried to pull a spear off the wall and it immediately snapped in half.
“Nevermind that.” Sarah said from the back of the room. “You boys come over here. I found some chests.” Making their way to the back they each stood before a contain and opened the lid to search what was inside. Bowie found an Antidote, Sarah found an Angel Wing and Chester found himself a Medical Herb.
“I think that's all that is left in here.” Bowie said as the other two nodded and made their way outside. Remaining unaccosted by any further guards they entered the main section of the castle interior. Bowie passed by what looked to be the kitchen and maids quarters. Across the entryway was the east tower and beyond that the teenagers got their first view of the throne room. “Wow you guys, look at this place.” He said in wonder as they marveled at the high ceilings and stained glass windows above. Bowie noticed that there was an old man pacing by the throne and muttering to himself about the king being late. But seeing as there was no one else around that gave him an idea. “Hey Chester, check it out.” He snicker mischievously. Then Bowie snuck over and slipped himself right into the throne. His buddy laughed quietly as Sarah looked as of she were about to explode.
“Get outta that chair!” She hissed, trying to not alert the king's adviser who was pacing back and forth. Bowie slipped away and met his friends by a large staircase feeling proud of himself.
Moving on they proceeding up to what seemed to be a small living area but it was strangely empty. There were books and couches and a fireplace but no royalty around. Bowie noticed there was only a single maid who was dusting and a lone guard who looked very out of place. “Excuse me.” He said. “I am a messenger from Galam. I am here to see the king. But, he is still sleeping. Did I arrive too early?” The soldier gestured toward a small staircase that led upwards but Bowie just shrugged not knowing what to tell him. Glancing to Sarah and Chester they both followed Bowie as he headed up the staircase to investigate.
As soon as they went up though they all tried to hide behind the railing realizing that coming upstairs was a big mistake. They had unknowingly entered right into the king's bedroom which was already crowded with the Minister, Sir Astral and Princess Elis all standing around the king's bed. “Mmmm… Hmmm… mmmm.” The king muttered in bed uncomfortably.
“Oh, father! Please wake up.” The Princess cried.
“Sir Astral?” The minister asked, looking to the older wise man.
“Hmmm. Nothing is wrong with his body, but…”
“He is suffering badly from something…”
“Perhaps… it might be… Well?” He stammered wondering why the Minister was no longer looking at him. But then glancing over his shoulder he suddenly became very angry. “What are you doing here?!” He yelled at Bowie and the other two behind him.
“Oops!” Chester whimpered. “Sorry, sir!” He said apologetically as he came stepping around.
“Well, we just followed you…” Sarah explained, trying to save the situation.
However Astral was having none of it and moved right up into her face. “Don't lie to me. You wanted to see the castle, didn't you?”
But before he could scold them any further the Minister stepped up beside them. “Sir Astral, who are they?” He requested to know.
“Oh… well…” He mumbled, not wanting to have had to explain their mischievousness to the Minister. “They're my pupils…”
“So they are. They look like good kids.” He observed, seeing that they seemed capable and well kept for their age. You must have a special reason to have them here, right?”
“Um… I didn't mean for…” He stopped and and looked at his students. He glared particularly at Bowie who had remained silent so far. After giving a nervous cough he announced, “You said the door of the Ancient Tower is open. There must be a connection between the open door and the King's sickness. I called them here to help me investigate the tower.” Turning from the minister and wanting to get away from the situation Sir Astral spoke proudly as if this had been his plan all along. “Now, pupils. Follow me.” However he whispered sternly to Sarah, “Don't give me any more trouble!” Pushing passed her he made his way back downstairs without even waiting for them.
Bowie looked up around the room now, know it was possible he might never see the royal chambers like this again. The minister was pondering the Ancient Tower while the King lay murmuring in pain. Bowie was excited getting to see Princess Elis so close but he knew now would not be an appropriate time to speak to her while she leaned worried over her father's bedside. “Oh, father… are you alright?”
Bowie looked around the room seeing curtains and carpeting of royal blue. There were decorative plaques on the wall and a suit of armor in the corner. But that is when he noticed another doorway which held a staircase leading above the kings room. Looking back Bowie noticed no one else was paying attention to them and his friends did not question him as they all made their way upstairs. “Let's be careful this time.” Chester said cautiously. “Where are we this time?” He asked as the stairs ascended into a small entry room.
Stepping around the corner they discovered more blue carpeting and what looked to be more or a private bedroom. “I don't think there is anyone else up here.” Bowie said.
“Well of course not.” Sarah said, walked passed Bowie and into the room. Stepping over to a bookcase she smiled pulling a novel titled Castle Romances from the self. “This is Princess Elis’s bedroom.” She smiled seeing that she was right about the surprised look she thought Bowie would have. He walked in and stared right at the plush topped bed near the middle of the room.
“So you mean… that's the Princess's bed?” He asked in wonder, amazed at actually getting to see it.
“Uh huh.” Sarah grinned, having to much fun teasing Bowie to be jealous. “Been there once or twice in your dreams have you?” She laughed seeing him become embarrassed.
Chester walked over though as his other two friends were snooping through the Princess's room. “But, Sarah… how can you be sure?”
She just smirked and pointed to the vanity in the corner. “Because that is a woman’s dresser and the King does not have a wife. That makes Princess Elis the only female royalty to use this room.” Chester shrugged deciding that was a good enough explanation for him.
“Huh? What's this?” Bowie mumbled to himself but it was loud enough for Sarah to take notice. “A small piece of silk?” He pondered, seeing that there were strings attached to it. Sarah couldn't believe what she was looking at and it took all of her effort to keep from laughing. Then Bowie became heavily flushed as he realized that he was holding the very petite underwear of Princess Elis.
“Hehehe… Oh my.” Sarah giggled as she walked up and snatched the undergarment from Bowie's hands. “Wow, would you look at these. I'd call them fancy but there is nothing to them! Just what is this small patch of silk supposed to cover? She must have her entire backside exposed underneath her dress! Who knew that the Princess secretly dressed like such a slut? Hey Bowie, that means you might actually have a chance hahaha!”
“Alright, alright.” He said laughing and reach out snatching the garment back from her. But then after making sure Chester wasn't looking he put his arm around Sarah's hips and pulled her in close. He kissed lips and when he pulled away he whispered to her stunned face saying, “Be careful or I might just want to see you dressed this way.” She was stunned and totally embarrassed, quickly glancing over her shoulder and feeling relieved that Chester hadn't noticed. She gave Bowie an apologetic smile for her teasing and helped him fold the underwear correctly to place it back where he found it. “Alright boys… Quick, let's get downstairs before we get in real trouble being caught up here.”
Two flights of stairs back down and the teens saw Sir Astral waiting for them in the common area. He gave a heavy sigh but motioned for them to come over. “I didn't want to involve you my children… but this might be a good opportunity for you to learn how to properly serve your King. Are you ready, Bowie?” He asked, seeing that the young man seemed to be leading his two friends. “Good! Let's go to the tower. Follow me.” Then he headed on ahead of them passed a different hallway behind him.
The group nodded and prepared for whatever was to be asked of them. “What do you know about the Ancient Tower, Sarah?” Bowie asked as they began to climb another staircase that their teacher had led them too.
“Not a lot. Grandseal castle was originally but around the Ancient Tower but as for its purpose, well that remains a mystery.”
“You know what else is a mystery?” Chester complained. “Why are there so many stairs?!” He shouted as they climbed to the third landing. But just then they were surprised to see a guard staring right at them.
“Sir Astral is already in the tower. Hurry!” He urged, opening the door behind him. The three nodded and made their way through a dirt tunnel beyond.
However when they exited the tunnel they did not expect to find such a scenic plateau before them. Surrounded by trees there was a massive cliff overlooking the far countryside. Then right in the middle was a massive spire which stretched almost endlessly into the sky. “Wow, how far up does it go?” Chester asked.
“Let's take a look.” Sara suggested. The three split up to look the tower over from different directions. Bowie walked around to the front of the tower while Chester raced around behind it. “Don't fall off the cliff!” Sarah called to him as she stepped closer to the tower base near where Bowie had headed. “It looks like you would fall forever.” She commented on the massive gorge that the tower seemed to raise out of. She lifted a rock and dropped it down but never heard the echo of the stone hitting bottom.
“Looks like I found the entrance.” Bowie called to her from a few feet away. She walked over to him and saw small bridge leading up between two large open doors. “Should we go in?”
But then they both heard their mutual friend call out to them. “Hey guys! You should come back here! I found something!”
Moving around behind the tower by the cliffs edge Bowie spoke up. “What is it?”
“That's the thing, I don't know.” Chester replied.
“Oooh it's pretty!” Sarah said. “Is it some kind of stone? Or is it metal?”
“Beats me. But look, there is a whole piece of it that we could pick up!” Chester said.
Sarah smiled and started walking away, “That is very courteous of you Chester. Go ahead and take it with you. It looks heavy and you have a strongback, right?”
“HEY!” He snapped feeling a little annoyed. “...fine.”
After that they regrouped by the front doors and together they made their way inside. The three stepped forward and none of them knew what to say as they looked around at the gargoyles and gothic architecture. Just then though a stern voice snapped out as Sir Astral said, “There you are, Bowie! Stay here. I'll take a look inside the tower.” After that he proceeded to venture further in. “Hmm, what a mysterious tower. I wonder who built it?”
Meanwhile the three teens remained by entrance. Chester was feeling nervous and joked with Bowie to ease the tension. “Hey, but uh, aren't we all ALREADY inside the tower?” Bowie chuckled and Sarah slapped them both across the back.
Now they watched Sir Astral step up to a raised platform with large foreign markings designed upon it. “I have a strange feeling about this place. Oh, what's this? I think I have seen this symbol before…”
Just then the entire room seemed to flash three times causing the students to step forward with worry. “What's happening?” Chester out.
Sarah spoke up next, shouting and pointing to the platform. “Look! Something is appearing! What's that?”
Suddenly a billowing cloud of smoke appeared with a malevolent face appearing in it. Sir Astral shouted in shock. “An evil Gizmo! A devil that possesses people! Why are you here?” Without response or moved to the right but then the wise man blocked its path. “Where are you going? What… wait! You're here to possess the King, aren't you?” Now the Gizmo shifted off to the left trying to get by. “I won't let you get passed. You shall not harm the King!” But then the evil smoke seemed to get angry. It shook itself a couple of times before six more miniatures of itself spread around. “This doesn't look good.” Sir Astral said surprised. But then he turned back to his students and yelled, “We’ll stop the evil Gizmo here. Bowie, defeat these fiends!” Then he turned and began aggressively engaging the primary Gizmo in combat to keep it distracted.
The three friends needed no further encouragement as they nodded to each other and pulled out their weapons. Seeing that the path down split into side staircases Chester rushed off to the left and Bowie and Sarah curved around to the right. The other Gizmo’s seemed to flutter about cautiously but as Bowie and Sarah were just making their way to the stairs Chester was already charging forward. Sarah called out seeing her friend rush ahead. “Chester be careful! Wait for us!” Just as she spoke she saw one of the Gizmo rush forward. They were all shocked as the entire creature shifted into a clawed hand and struck the centaur for a couple points. “Are you okay?” She yelled tried to get to where Chester was but he was still out of reach. Bowie saw that more were approaching so he moved forward to draw some fire from his friend.
“I'm fine!” Chester yelled, taking his wooden pole and managing to drive it into the smoke for equal damage.
Finally catching up to him she smiled in relief that his scratch wasn't as bad as it had looked. “Well good. Let me know if you need healing. Here they come!” Quickly another came down landing a heavier attack on Bowie and a third dove to attack Sarah.
“Beat them back!” The blond boy yelled, slashing at the Gizmo with his wooden sword.
“What do you think I'm going to do? Run away?” Chester yelled as he attacked the first Gizmo a second time. But with it not yet being vanquished it attacked back, followed by another Gizmo slipping around Chester's flank to attack his side. “Argh!” He growled as he was starting to feel these scratches and up.
“I've got you- AH!” Sarah yelled as she was also attacked by a two Gizmo at once now. But not letting that stop her she rose her staff and managed to recover Chester from the damaged he had received. She smiled as he gave her a thumbs up but then head Bowie call from behind.
“A little help here!” The evil spirit he had been fighting landed another deep blow into the boy. Sarah looked around nervously as they were becoming surrounded and her friend was now bleeding while she was also already feeling hurt. Fortunately she saw Bowie raise his sword and then the first of the fiends seemed to fall at his strike. “Alright! They CAN be defeated!” He cheered just as Sarah had reached him and managed to get a healing spell off for him as well.
Sarah smiled feeling useful to her friends in this fight. “That's great, we can do this!” She allowed herself to become distracted seeing Chester drive his pole through his own Gizmo, watching the second one fall. However she was caught off guard as she became pinned by the creatures in the middle while the boys were otherwise distracted. “Aaaahh!” She screamed in pain as the misty claws sliced into her ribs from both sides.
Hearing scream Bowie and Chester looked over seeing Sarah fall to her knee having taken a considerable about ot damage. Looked between them they noticed they were right beside one of the Gizmo attacking her and they both shouted, “Together!” Chester drove in his pole as Bowie slashed with his sword. The two managed to overwhelm the smoke, dissipating a third of the devils and taking some of the pressure off from Sarah.
The priest took a step away and managed to heal herself. She could feel that her magic was running low but both she and Bowie were fully recovered while Chester was sturdy and knew what he was doing. Both of the boys now stood with a Gizmo facing them each and Sarah only had one Gizmo left to contend with. The three braced themselves for assault and Bowie actually managed to dodge the incoming attack against him.
As Chester and Bowie both launched their attacks back Sarah ran up behind and managed to get final healing spell off. “There you go Chester! Well, that's it! I'm out of magic you guys!”
Another round of attacks from the Gizmo and another counter from Bowie's force managed to fell another of the evil spirits. “Don't worry Sarah, we’re winning!”
Just then Sarah was attacked again but she managed to shrug it off as she was now much healthier. Also since she was out of magic she looked over seeing the devil in front of Bowie was already hurt. Rushing over she put her staff right through it leaving only the Gizmo behind her. “Hehe. Remember that even though I'm a Priest, I can still fight too!” Bowie smiled and between him and Chester they both made quick work of the last fiend before it could attack again.
As they saw they were victorious they rushed up to rejoin Sir Astral. It seemed as if he had done well for keeping the main opponent at bay. Once his pupils returned to his side he cheered, “Well done, Bowie! What should we do with this devil?” Seeing that it's allies were defeated frustration seemed to over take the ill creature. Suddenly it shook and the room seemed to flash again. But this time when the light receded the spirit was gone. “Oh, it disappeared?!” Astral asked. After looking back the way they came he shouted, “Oh,there it is!” But with another flash it once more vanished. “Ir disappeared again.” And now the devil was seen hovering just by the entrance. “There it is!” But it was out the door before any of them could give chase. “We must hurry to the King!” Astral shouted as they all headed back to the castle.
The teenagers raced after him as quickly as they could but it seemed the devil had managed to be just swifter. Sarah gasped seeing the guard at the end of the tunnel laying on the floor but there was no time to help him as her friends rushed her down the stairs with them. As they approached the common room the messenger from Galam was gone but there was a clamor happening from upstairs. As they entered the King's room they found it to be in utter chaos. The room was filled with guards, some of which were injured. The Princess was screaming for her father as the minister watched over the entrance to the room above. “I saw the devil enter the King's body… and the King became violent!” Knowing that their teacher might need help the three of them quickly ran upstairs to Princess Elis’s room.
There they immediately saw Sir Astral struggling with the King. “King Grandseal! Calm down!” He shouted. But their royal leader only growled monstrously and attacked. “He's possessed! He needs an exorcism right now!” But before he could react the King lunged and knocked Sir Astral to the ground. “Yeow! My head!” He shouted shaking himself off. As Bowie approached he quickly raised a hand to stop him. “No, I'm ok, Bowie. I must use a powerful spell. It may be dangerous. Stay back!” Then after a mighty casting Sir Astral began to glow. The possessed King stepped back nervously. “Evil Spirit inside the King, begone, HAAA!” Then a swirling ball of energy struck the King knocking him to the ground. “King… Grandseal?” Astral asked. Then the Gizmo began to rise from the King's body. “Did it work?”
Instantly the smoke seemed to dissipate out through a window as the King was left reeling on the ground. “Ooh… Astral, wha… what happened?”
“Are you alright?” The wizard asked. When the King nodded he instantly shouted, “Let me has your soldiers. We must kill it before it finds another victim.”
“What are you talking about? I don't understand.” However as the King attempted to question him Sir Astral suddenly collapsed from exhaustion. “Astral!” The King shouted.
**Author's Ending Note** So this brings us through the general intro of the game. Not a lot of room for sexiness here but I did add in that fun pantry raid scene with the Princess having a g-string or so it would seem. I hope anyone reading this approves of how I am flushing out the character's personalities. I had fun writing the battle scene and trying to make it sound dramatic. For those who like story, combat, or sexiness please keep reading because there will be more of all of it to come. Thank you for reading!
