The past...
Ever since Juno found a body on the battlefield, she saw Zanketsu lying beside him and she knew immediately that he was a swordsman. Juno kneeled down beside his lifeless body. Resting a hand on his forehead, Juno gently opened his eyes to see the amber hues in them. Her wandering eyes spotted pointy ears that matched her own, as well as pointy features on his face. Juno just smiled - she liked the sight of this fallen swordsman. Being a magical ruler, the princess-soon-to-be-queen brought him back to life using a spell that she could only use one time. Juno cast a spell that couldn't be wasted...and Juno knew she wouldn't waste it away if she used it to bring this fallen swordsman back to life.
Carrying the lifeless male back to her palace, Juno laid him on a bed in a lone bedchamber. With that, Juno allowed this swordsman to sleep and rest up since it was only nightfall. She wanted to look after him until he felt better, thus she provided temporary accommodation for him. Juno set his Zanketsu onto the dressing table, completely polished.
Once morning came around, the princess knocked on the door to the swordsman’s bedchamber.
"Hello, sir knight! Are you awake?" Juno asked through the door, shortly before giving the door another knock. It wasn't a loud knock exactly, it was just soft. "Sir knight! Please don't feel alarmed that you've woken up somewhere different -- I found you last night...motionless," she informed the male in bed. "It was a tough fight last night."
Waking up from the sound of a knock at the door, his eyes snapped open. He looked around the extent, finding rich colours that painted the walls and decoration. He woke up covered in sweat, and the look of this bedroom made his heart beat out of his chest in panic. He heard a voice calling out to him before he looked over. Thinking back, it felt as though he died, but had little memory of what happened the night before. The swordsman quickly searched around for his equipment, only to see it on the dressing table.
He was shocked.
“Where am I?”
Juno responded, “You’re in my palace.”
Opening the door, Juno walked into the bedroom to see the fallen swordsman. At this time, he wasn’t so fallen anymore. Juno just smiled.
"You...saved my life....didn't you? I owe you my life.”
Noticing a crown on her head, the swordsman immediately leapt out of bed. He fell to his knees and bowed down to the princess. He kept this bow for as long as he could.
“Your highness! I’m Vox. Thank you for saving my life,” he thanked her as he kissed the floorboard beneath him. He was grateful, fortunate to be saved by the crown. “But, why did you save me?” Vox asked, looking up at the princess now.
Amused, Juno just giggled at Vox’s performance.
“I’m Princess Juno,” she gave her name. “I’d like to ask you to be my knight. Is that too much to ask?”
“...Uh, a knight?” Vox thought at first, but he remembered that this woman saved his life. She deserved all the good things right now. Vox took the princess’s right hand with both of his own. "It would be my honour to become your appointed knight, princess. I promise that I won't fall again like I did before. Especially since I'll have you to fight for and to protect."
Admiring his performance, Juno simply cackled at the sight. “That’s what I thought!”
He glanced away from her and noticed his Zanketsu resting on the dressing table. He raised a curious blue brow at the sight. “Did you clean my sword, princess?”
“I did.”
“Thank you.”
"Appointed knight at your service, my princess. I'm not sure what happened to me, but I'm more than grateful that you saved my life," he mentioned again. "Would you like me to cook a meal for you? Perhaps you're in need of an escort for a long or short journey?" Vox smiled as he asked this with a faint blush appearing over his features.
This moment was like a dream come true. Vox finally had a wonderful princess to serve and protect. Though perhaps there was more that she wanted out of him.
“In order to be my knight, you must train. I’ll take you out to train later today, okay?”
Ever since that day, Vox looked up to Juno… he could feel something there in his heart.

Back to the present...
“How many of them are there?”
Vox shrugged, keeping his guard up. “They’re coming out of every direction,” he stated.
“I can quite see that,” replied Berwick.
Mannequins rushed at the two one by one, Berwick sent a ray of fire in this mannequin’s path. The boy covered his mouth with his hand, feeling a wet patch of blood. Unsure of where this blood came from, Berwick didn’t have much time to think about it now.
"Berwick," called Vox.
"Yeah?"
"Are you okay?" Vox questioned, taking on one enemy after another. The mannequins practically threw themselves at the swordsman, and he sliced up each enemy as they came along (as he does lol).
Berwick just answered, “I’m fine.”
His robe danced with the airstream as he cast fire magic, dancing like the ripples in a tide. Glancing up at his fomalhaut, Berwick watched his staff light up a flame each and every time he cast a fire spell. He felt the warmth of the flame, watching it dance through the wind, until moments after this orb of fire burned the targeted enemy to a crisp.
Looking over at Berwick, no more mannequins were present on Vox’s side. Before Vox appeared to be a path of dead bodies, along with dashes of water that rested beneath these lifeless manikins. Vox killed them all.
Out of breath.
Catching sight of a mannequin sneaking up behind the performing fire mage, Vox immediately darted towards this manikin and knocked it out of its misery. Coming up behind Berwick, the swordsman placed a hand on Berwick’s shoulder.
“Sit out of this one - I’ll handle the rest,” offered Vox.
“...Thanks,” nodded Berwick. Turning to face Vox, the fire mage still held his mouth with his hand. Berwick looked at Vox and that was it. He did as he was told and sat out of the battle.
“I’ll check that out after this,” mentioned Vox as he glanced at the hand on Berwick’s face.
Gathering up enough energy, Vox charged towards these mannequins with his sword drawn out. He ran like a bolt of lightning, chopping off heads and tearing through the flesh of his opponents in the act.
He just ran for it.
Leaning his back up against a tree, Berwick watched Vox from afar. The fire mage still had his hand to his mouth, refusing to let go even with nobody around him. All Berwick could see was a flash of white light.
This white light occurred again.
And then a third time.
Flashes of white light could be seen, as Berwick saw Vox slip his Zanketsu back into its sleeve. Berwick watched the swordsman wipe away the sweat from his brow, and soon Vox was on his way back to Berwick again.
“How did I do?” Vox asked the fire mage.
“Great!”
“Let me see your mouth,” ordered Vox. He kneeled down in front of the younger male, and soon Vox held onto his wrist just gently. “I need to see how bad this is.”
“...How...bad?” Berwick questioned with a gulp.
“Yes.”
Pulling Berwick’s stubborn hand away from his face, Vox spotted blood trailing from the lip. Vox never cringed at the sight, he just observed like he normally would.
“Let me see your teeth,” he ordered the younger male.
Berwick opened his mouth just slightly, enough for Vox to see the damage. Vox noticed the blood coming from the gum rather than the lip, and immediately Vox patted Berwick’s shoulder.
“Wash your mouth out,” stated Vox. He gestured to the younger male to go over to the nearby lake.
Doing as he was told, Berwick walked over to the small body of water and descended to his knees. He washed his mouth out with the clear liquid, tasting salt but he never cared about that.
Vox watched Berwick from the tree.
“That’s good,” he told Berwick. “A storm is coming. It’s time to head back to the camp,” declared Vox.
"But captain, aren't you coming?"
"I said GO," ordered Vox another time.
Watching Berwick run back to the camp, Vox smiled when the younger lad listened to him.
"You did well," remarked Juno. The princess walked up to Vox, giving him a small smile. "I watched the whole fight - you and Berwick make a great team!"
"He's good to work with," admitted the swordsman. "Berwick fights well."
Planting a kiss onto Vox's cheek, Juno just smiled at the positive swordsman. "Even though you're a captain," she started. "You make an excellent captain and fighter. You have really proved yourself to me."
"We should probably head back to the camp," he suggested. Vox held out a hand for Juno to take. "Shall we go?"
~ ♡ ~
This was a camp for the Knights of Blood warriors, a safe place to stay at before their next mission. This camp was a small span with a few tents, a few benches, a firepit, and a place for grub. Vox was the captain of this whole team. His duty was to guide the warriors, to teach and train, as well as to protect the princess.
Sitting down on a bench, Duke went on to clean his muddy boots. Berwick sat down beside Duke with a hot dog in hand. The bigger man just looked at Berwick, letting out a little chuckle at the sight.
“Aren’t you gonna eat anything, Duke?” Berwick asked the other man. He took a chunk out of this hot dog, and Duke saw ketchup smudge Berwick’s lips in a heartbeat.
Shaking his head, Duke chuckled softly in amusement as he watched the younger lad eat. “I think I quite enjoy watching you eat, Berwick.”
“You need to get your energy somehow,” answered Berwick.
“I’m not feeling hungry at the moment,” admitted Duke with a smile. “It’s time for bed soon anyway.”
Shrugging, Berwick finished his food and now licked his fingers clean. “Duke, are you sure you don’t want anything to eat?”
“Yes, I’m sure,” he replied.
“I’ll go get you something to eat, hold on-” Berwick offered before being grabbed by the wrist.
“I don’t want anything to eat,” scowled Duke with a slight blush on his features now. “Berwick, sit back down.”
“I’m sorry,” the boy expressed regret as he sat back down on the bench. “I didn’t mean to upset you.”
Leaning in, Duke gave Berwick a cuddle, all whilst he chuckled at Berwick’s reaction. He just cuddled the younger male, holding this embrace for a few simple seconds.
“D-Duke,” he called the other male’s name with a blush on his own features now. Berwick raised a hand and touched Duke’s muscular arm. “Not in front of everyone,” he whined.
But Duke didn’t care about that.
He loved Berwick and didn’t want to hide his love from everyone.
Feeling a drop of rain on his head, Duke glanced up at the sky and noticed it started to rain. The storm was on the way. He cringed.
“It’s time for bed now,” cackled Duke. “I’ll see you in the morning, Berwick.”
“I-I’ll come with you, Duke.”
