Like I said, I wasn't around when this story started. I came in not too far from it, though. And the legendary warrior was nowhere near the fighter the stories tell of—far from it. I later found out that was the first day she had ever killed another person, which was a bit hard for me to understand at the time.
From what she told me, her father had left the Vault, and that was apparently a no-no. So the Overseer had the Vault Security grab and interrogate people her father had gotten close to over the years. Killing his assistant, someone who was like an uncle to her. From what she said, they interrogated the man before shooting him.
They had even gone after her. If it hadn't been for her friend waking her up, she might have been killed as well. She had to fight her way through backways in the Vault and ultimately came across the Overseer and a security thug holding her friend, threatening her. The girl told me that she had lost herself after that. And she remembers coming to afterward. The head of security was dead, and the Overseer was knocked unconscious with many broken bones.
With help from the friend she had just saved, she was able to access the Overseer’s tunnel. From there, she made her way to the entrance and left before more guards had a chance to come. Apparently, she begged her friend to come with her, but she refused. Staying behind to try and help calm things down, she was forced to push on with the knowledge that they would get the information of what all she did to help the girl escape.
Granted, I didn’t know that at the time. All I saw was a girl, in a vault suit. If I had to describe her in one word, the first to come to mind would be exhausted. Like I had said, she had been woken up, only to make a mad dash out of her home of about two decades. Into the Wasteland full of things she had no idea about. Having to walk all the way from the Vault to the city.
So I did what all quote-unquote wastelanders would do when they see something strange. I listened in while keeping an eye on her. She was talking to the owner of the bar and inn. An old snake named Moriarty. He had a lot of influence in that town, Megaton, and was not afraid to use people. I have seen this man do some of the worst things possible in the time I was acting as the Enclave’s eyes in that town.
While he didn’t recognize the girl, he knew her dad. Knew him by name, and apparently when she was a baby. Like I said before, she came from a Vault, so that made no sense. So me, being the Enclave that I am…..was seeing her Vault Jumpsuit, but hearing that people just seem to enter and leave if they know the right people. I decided to keep close.
Moriarty did as expected, telling the girl that he would only tell her the location where her father went if she would be willing to pay him one hundred caps. The poor thing had no idea what he was going on about. The old bastard just seemed to laugh at her. Some old Ghoul stepped up to talk to her, explaining things. He was a kind guy.
I was surprised when she didn’t seem too terrified by the Ghoul. Instead, she seemed inquisitive. The Ghoul, Gob if I remember correctly ...no. I remember correctly. I just don’t want to admit how much nostalgia I feel for these memories. It makes it hurt all the more knowing where it will lead. But away from that for now.
Gob was able to tell her a bit about caps and how people just took to using them instead of pre-war money. After a long, drawn-out process of explaining a few of the finer points of being a Ghoul and life in general in the Capital Wasteland, the girl seemed to be a bit more confident. Moriarty had made it back, finally done laughing, and told her that there were different ways she could make the caps.
The first was to dirty a pretty face, as he worded it. Doing various tasks for folk in town. It was what everyone did. The second one was that he had a girl that ran out on him. She took lots of caps and chems when she left. The last one was that he would be willing to give her the info free of charge for a night of fun. I was surprised to find myself standing up when she slapped the old bastard. He seemed to laugh it off. But told her that the price would now be three hundred caps.
He left her at that. The girl was left at the bar, the Ghoul finding something to busy himself with, but would give her side looks. Clearly, the Boss had him under strict rules, but he wanted to do something. She just looked worn down at that point. He could suggest a common house, but she might not get a safe night of sleep there. I saw my chances of getting into her Vault slipping…...right?
That sounds Enclave enough for you? Not that I saw someone being taken advantage of, and as the young Agent that I was, I thought I could help. Well, make your own judgments. With a heavy sigh, I downed my Nuka Cola and made my way to Gob, paying for my room for the night. Nova, the whore that didn’t run out on the old bastard, looked to me like she saw her dinner. Had to disappoint her that night.
After paying, I turned to the girl. I am used to being taller than most at this point, so at 6’1 I had to look down at this 5’7 girl. Now, I was able to see her up close. I was able to see that the hair I thought was dark brown in the poor lighting was more of a reddish brown. Her body was a bit chubby, something that I assume comes from safe and secure Vaults. I could see why Moriarty was interested, she was definitely busty. But when she looked up at me, I couldn’t think of anything. Bluish-green eyes that looked as though the world was against them…I hate that memory.
Back on track. She looked at me like I was about to drop more bad news on her. And I forgot what I was going to say. I turned back to Gob, paid for some bottles of water, and got her some mutfruit. It was clear that she would need something to eat as well. So, turning back to the girl, I finally spoke with her. To be honest, after everything happened, a stranger asking her to follow him to his room seemed very suspicious when she was in such a poor position.
It did not take much goading to push her to follow. I can guess what she expected from me. Sometimes, it makes me wonder if she would have actually slept with me for the caps. It wouldn’t really matter, though. You will see why as the story progresses. Anyway, we get upstairs, and I nudge her into the room. She was walking slow, like someone expecting the worst, which made me feel bad.
After finally getting her inside, I locked the door behind me. She sat down on the bed, staring at the floor, waiting. I guess she got impatient, because she looked up to see me holding out the food and water to her. She looked wary, I would have too. I had to explain to her that not everyone in the Wasteland is terrible. And that she can’t let the old bastard ruin her view of the world.
She took it carefully, chewing on the mutfruit, which was probably the first time she had ever seen it. She was a few bites in when the waterworks happened. Don’t know why it caught me off guard. It would make sense for her to cry with what she went through. Guess I am used to Enclave Women who would scrap my ass at the first sign of weakness. I still blame the Wasteland for making me soft.
So I let her cry, grabbing and capping the bottle so it wouldn’t spill everywhere. I guess I got within her personal bubble because I felt her latch around me, unleashing the tears into my stomach. I was feeling for her, but I couldn’t move or do anything. Eventually, I just got bored and started patting her head. Her crying got quieter, but it still lasted a good bit longer.
Once all the tears were out, she was out like a light. I didn’t notice because she was still holding onto my shirt in her sleep. I had to take the damn thing off to escape her grip. So there I was, the big bad Enclave. Laying a girl out on a bed who just stole my shirt. Only bed in the room. Had to go down to the bar, with everyone giving the shirtless man disapproving glares, grab a chair, and come back up.
I finally get to sleep, and what a surprise I wake up first. My neck was telling me it probably wasn’t worth it. I was in the process of trying to ease my shirt back when she woke up. She looked so confused and told me later that she had just thought it was a bad dream. Seeing me killed her hope of that. There you go, Enclave in a nightmare. Happy?
Again. Back on track. She wakes up, and it takes her a minute to remember it isn’t a dream. Luckily, she doesn't cry again when it all comes to her. At my insistence, she finished the mutfruit I had gotten for her, I would hate to have wasted the caps. Once she had some food and water, we talked. She told me her name was Laura. A name that I can honestly say will haunt me for decades to come. I told her to call me Cyrus; it was what I was used to at this point. No one outside of Raven Rock knew that it wasn’t my first name.
The conversation turned to why she was there. She gave me a summary of what happened and explained that her dad left her behind, thinking she would be safe. Instead, she was forced out of her home alone into the Wasteland. So now her only goal was to try and find her father and why he decided to leave. I could tell she also wanted to know why he couldn’t take Laura with him.
So from there, I started to become a bit more suggestive…not like that, you pervs. She needed caps, and I was not going to be allowed to pay for her. Even then, I didn’t expect her to survive if she got the caps. My thoughts of the chance of getting into the Vault were quietly forgotten, and my thoughts subtly shifted to why her father would leave such a safe place. Being the nosy Agent that I was, I decided to help her to survive so I could follow her. I refused to babysit Laura, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t help to make sure she could hold her own.
So we go over the different ways she could make caps, helping folks in town or going after the runaway whore. While the girl that stole from Moriarty would be faster, I had no idea just what she could do. She had armor she had taken from guards that Laura had killed, but it wasn’t much. It could probably hold its own against blunt hits, but something with a blade or actual gun would tear through it quickly.
It did not take much to convince her to help people. We went around town looking for anyone who looked frustrated. Luckily for us, the first job, helping at the water plant, netted the girl two hundred caps. The old guy said he’d give caps for scrap metal in the future. We continued to look, but everything else seemed to take us outside of Megaton.
We were annoyed and drinking away our sorrows, my treat when a strange guy approached us. I had seen him before and had a bit of information on him. He was a man by the name of Mister Burke. He was a very wealthy and connected individual. He talked to us, saying he heard what was going on, and beckoned us to come over where it was more private.
He talked to us about how poor a town Megaton was, calling it an eyesore and calling the people there very bad things as well. He also knew we needed caps. Apparently, his Boss is this very wealthy man who is forced to see the eyesore in the distance. Wanting to deal with that, he was looking for people to set off the live warhead the town is known for.
Did I forget to mention that? Megaton was built around a full sized nuclear warhead that never detonated. It is one of the safest places in the Wasteland; go figure. No one messed with it, and it only leaked radiation into the small pond that was forced around it. So it wasn’t as bad as you would think. But it was left vulnerable to stuff like this.
Burke offered five hundred caps for the job. The catch was that we would have to go to a place far to the west called Tenpenny Tower to collect our earnings. With a bit of wordplay that I don’t always pull off, and the honest truth that we would need the caps for Moriarty and to get to the other place. I was able to get him to raise the payout to one thousand caps, and he gave us five hundred upfront to deal with the old bastard. Makes me laugh that Burke was willing to pay so much just to ensure Moriaty died.
Laura wasted no time, charging Moriaty down, behind his own bar. She counted out three hundred caps as loud and sarcastically as she could. The girl did have four hundred left, so she still had more than she had to hand over. The old asshole looked legitimately impressed that she had gotten the caps. He tells her that she would have to go all the way to Galaxy News Radio to find her dad.
Laura was excited, but I knew there would be problems. That place was within the ruins, filled with Super Mutants. And the Metros themselves were filled to the brim with Ferals. Not counting all the Raiders, monsters, and various assholes that inhabited the Wasteland. She was not going to survive the trip as she was.
It was getting a bit later at this point. And we decided to hang out in the room until night. She deserved a bit of time to relax with her victory. Granted, we were now facing a big problem. We talked about the next step. Burke expected us to blow up Megaton, but Tenpenny Tower was in the complete opposite direction of her dad. And if we blow up the town, then we will have no place to stop on the way back.
To add to the consideration, other than Moriarty. If anyone in town had made her pissed enough to want to blow them up. Pointing out that there were a few kids here as well. It was good to see Laura actually consider it. Granted, she won’t always do that. You will figure out this part later on.
I took a hundred caps from her, saying she now paid for my help. She asked how much it would be. It was good that she was suspicious. And I explained that I would follow her around, and as a Doctor, I would work to keep her alive. This hundred would cover me getting her ready to leave. She asked if she would have to pay again. So I told her the truth. I could cover my own supplies, but if I ran out, I would dip into hers. Either chems or caps to get them. She seemed appeased with that.
We spent the night figuring out a plan for what we would do. We decided that we couldn’t kill the town; it was too important. After that, we would do more jobs to get her sufficient weapons and equipment. When I thought she was ready, we would leave, but if she felt that I was delaying, she was going to head off on her own.
The next day, we searched for the Sheriff, a man by the name of Lucas Simms. He was a nice enough guy, but at his age, he was not willing to put up with bullshit. And he didn’t believe us until we showed him the device that Burke wanted us to use to detonate the Nuke. We followed him to the Saloon, and the Sheriff confronted the guy. After a bit of back and forth, Simms was finally able to convince Burke to follow.
Tells about people in the Wasteland. Simms turned away to lead us to where he held people, and Burke pulled a gun on him. It was just a 10mm Pistol, but at that range, it would have been fatal. The little idiot of a Vault Dweller, seeing what was happening, stepped in between! She took the hit, non-fatal. Simms didn’t have time to turn around from feeling her fall against me before I had my Laser Pistol drawn. I left Burke a pile of ash on the floor.
People started to panic a bit at that point. Simms caught on quickly, saying that we would need to take her to the Clinic at the bottom of the crater. I guess he didn’t know I was a Doctor. Nova had run over, asking about what had happened. I was able to get her to fetch my bag from my room. I had to get her in a better situation before trying to carry her upstairs. Gob, the big softy snuck us some alcohol. I don’t remember the brand, but Moriarty would probably notice later.
Simms was able to keep people back, while Nova returned. I did the temporary patch job that would keep her in one piece before the old Sheriff helped me carry her up the stairs. Moriarty was complaining about having to clean up Burke, I hope he swallowed a lot of ash. We got her up, and Nova acted as a pretty decent nurse.
It took a small portion of my on-hand supplies, but I was able to get her fixed up. Stimpacks are a hell of a tech. I might have had to take some Mentats to keep my head level, too. I didn’t know you could be addicted to them, but apparently, I was—enough of that. Laura was in a better condition, bandaged up. I paid for Nova’s “service” so that she would “sleep” with Laura. Essentially I was able to get it so that she could keep an eye on Laura without Moriarty bitching.
At this point it was dark, I was tired, and covered in blood. I'm used to it by now, so after cleaning up, I go down to the bar. Burke’s pile was still somewhat there. I was able to get the gun he used to shoot Laura, some sunglasses, and the hat that he liked to show off. I can say that I wasn’t feeling much at that point. I killed the bastard and saved the girl. The problem was, as I stared at the objects in my hand, I just felt the need to give one last fuck you to Burke.
No, I did not piss or do anything else to his pile. I am a bit more refined in my revenge. I sell my services as a Doctor, but I am actually quite skilled at repair and maintenance of damn near everything. I can fix things, and people. So I pocket the stuff, and I make my way down to the damned Nuke that started the problem. And I spend some time trying to figure out how to neuter it.
As I had said, it had gotten dark by this point, and I had not really planned this in advance. So, while crawling around inside a Nuke, I had forgotten to grab a light. Yes, you can laugh now. I'm thinking of some guy banging around in a Weapon of Mass Destruction, cursing up a storm as I am trying to disarm it. If any of those Children of Atom freaks had come by, they might have thought their god was talking to them.
So after the third panel that didn’t seem to fix my problem, and me being too proud to go and get a light, I was startled when I heard some banging from outside instead of in. I stuck my head out and, at first, didn't see anything. Then the darkness talks. I am not much of a coward, but I admit to jumping at that point. I hit my damn head against one of the internal struts too. I was sent into another cursing fit before I realized who spoke.
Just outside, stood the Sheriff's kid—little Harden Simms. Ya know, everyone was guessing when he and Maggie would finally start a family. The two sides were that Maggie would attack him or Hardin would finally give in. I was the only one who said it would be an accident. Somehow, I was right. Best alcohol caps you could buy. I made over two thousand caps that day.
So little Harden was standing there, I could tell because he had turned on his light. We talked, him asking what I was doing. I had explained that I was disarming the Nuke for good. He asked if it was true that they had saved his dad. I explained everything that happened with the Burke incident. After a bit of silence the boy held his flashlight out for me to use. This is why I helped him years later.
Anyway, now that I have a light inside, it took me no time to neuter the WMD permanently. It would still leak radiation into the water nearby, but it wouldn’t go off any time soon. I had hoped Burke was looking on from hell.
Once done, I climbed out and walked with Harden back to his house. There, I told the Sheriff about the bomb being defused. He looked like he was about to say I was joking until he saw all the gunk that was now on my clothes.
Simms told me to see him the next day, and that he would have something special for us. So I made my way back to the Saloon. Cleaned myself up, and fell asleep in the chair again. Didn't even bother to eat something.
The following day was interesting. Laura was feeling better. But she had to take it easy with her left arm. We went downstairs to get breakfast, and Simms came in during our discussion over what to get. I forgot to tell Laura what happened.
So Simms offered one hundred caps and gave us the deed to an old home. I was not expecting that, and Laura still didn't know what was going on. I explained what I had done and told her that since it was technically her fault, the house and caps were hers.
She definitely looked shocked at that. I guess with all the other stuff and me being paid to fix her up, that was the first time I did something nice just to be nice. She took them from Simms' hand, we grabbed some gub, and took off for the house.
We made our way over and were surprised to see it was one of the buildings closer to Megaton's entrance. Going inside, she was excited to see that it was so spacious, with two floors, and had her own robot butler. He made his introduction, made some bad puns, and gave us some water.
We ate our food and then dropped our stuff in our respective rooms. She had spent some time exploring the house and enjoying what was hers. When she was done, I mentioned it was time to get equipment to go outside of Megaton.
Going over to Craterside Supply, we met a strange, strange Woman. People kinda know her now, though, so you get a history lesson of a few interesting people. It seems to be a theme with my adventures.
So we talked to her, Miss Moira Brown, and she gushed about Laura being a Vault Dweller. She forced Laura into an interview and wrote down everything. She explained it was for a book she was writing called The Wasteland Survival Guide. Yup, that one. We helped make it.
So she talked to us about how she needs new assistants to do tests for her book. And Laura said we would. In return, Moira gave her a fancy-looking armored Vault Suit she had. At least it looked a bit better.
She told us about a few tests for the first chapter and then asked if we were the new owners of the empty house. She explained that she could rent out decorations and furniture, but her requirements were that they were all kept together in themes so that things wouldn't be lost. She also had a few special furniture pieces for sale.
They keep talking about the different stuff that could go inside the house, and Moira gave us a few pictures of what the themes would look like in general. Some looked interesting, while others looked psychotic. Where she got the gore and viscera, I do not know. But that one was already going to be a no-go. This left four choices for us. After reviewing them, we picked out the pre-war theme.
With the theme picked out and all of the extra furniture added, the total was a few thousand caps. Laura was a bit upset having only seven hundred caps at that point, so I was nice again. I pulled from my stash. As an Enclave Agent, I had access to an unlimited amount, but I could only carry so much on me.
Laura looked amazed again, so it was worth it. Moira took the caps, and the deal was done. Moira sent word to some workers that she needed them to move stuff over, and it was a bit interesting to watch them at work initially. We still had to get Laura's equipment, and we had already spent a few thousand caps and had not made progress on that goal.
After looking over her wares, I deemed that she sucked, as far as weapons went. Couldn’t really upgrade Laura from her 10mm. With little other choice, we just got more medical supplies and ammo. Laura waved goodbye to Moira on her way out, with the goofy merchant damn near shaking her arm off while reciprocating.
We had lunch at The Brass Lantern and met the Stahls that day. They were an interesting group, hated Moriarty, like everyone else, and served decent food. I could tell one was an addict at first glance, and the other just seemed rough. The sister was nice, but when you saw the specific guy she focused her niceness on. You’d learn to keep at a distance.
With our bellies full, I had us stop at the Clinic. Can never be without extra medical supplies, but I must admit, I was running low on caps at that moment. Messed with my head a bit at the time. I had never gotten that low before and could only blame Laura. Granted I didn’t think it was so bad at the time.
We headed back to the house to see how far they were. We were able to watch as they were hooking up the new electronics, specifically the TV. I can say this: TV will get some use in the future. And not always with pants on. Sometimes, with no clothes on entirely. You get what I am saying.
So we spent the rest of the afternoon watching them get the place in order, and when they were done, we just let ourselves fall over the chairs. Have to admit, after a few nights in the crappy chair from Moriarty’s, one of those softer Pre-War Chairs felt so lovely. I could have gone to sleep right there and then. Granted, then I remember I had a real bed upstairs and decided to head to bed early.
When I went upstairs to go to bed, I did not expect Laura to follow me into my room. She closed the door behind us and told me that she appreciated everything I had done. And that she wanted to make it up to me. I am not a strong man. When you put a woman in front of me who wants to fuck, I will not often back down. So I did as every red-blooded American would do. And fucked what was technically my Boss at that point.
I know that if you have made it this far, you will want some details. Also for myself to look back on during any lonely night. The woman had very impressive breasts. The Vault-Tec bra was putting them at E Cups.
We didn't fully fuck that first time. She was still a virgin and was still debating on it. Instead, she gave me a titty fuck. She had me sit on the bed while she laid over me. Putting a lot of pressure around my dick. It let me thrust up between those fantastic boobs.
It didn't last as long as I wanted, I was very pent up, and I warned her it was coming. Laura didn't want to deal with the mess, so she took the head of my dick into her mouth and swallowed every shot of my cum. It was an incredible sight and sound. Anyway, after putting ourselves away, we cuddled and passed out.
The next day, I woke up first. My room was small, my bed even smaller, and that short, busty girl found a way to take up all the room. I had to ease myself down to keep from falling and then try to find my pants. While looking, I did find her bra, which was fun. With it being naturally warm inside the house and the room being hotter from being closed up, Laure had kicked the blanket away. I will always remember that image.
So I find myself shirtless, heading downstairs to get something from the fridge. Apparently, some food had come with it. I didn’t understand at the time, and I still don’t. And I ate breakfast alone, trying to figure out just what was going on at that point. I had essentially taken on some girl who would need a lot of help to survive and wanted to go out into the most dangerous parts of the Wasteland. Granted, it was a new day. We were going to head outside for the first time. Boy, if only I knew what was coming back then.
