Chapter Twenty: The Outing
“I don’t believe you didn’t get your passports yet.” Sephiroth said, eyeing his youngest son sternly as he sat at the family dinner table, “What have you boys been doing the past week?”
“Moping.” Yazoo said, not looking up from his book as he ate his dinner, “It was quite tiresome.”
“Sulking, too.” Loz pointed out, already reaching for a second helping of his mother’s mashed potatoes.
“Oh, and don’t forget about arguing!” Kadaj said with a smirk, but said smirk dissipated when he saw his younger brother’s face and he quietly returned to his meal.
A frown crossed the features of the eldest Tanaka's face, "Moping...? Sulking? Arguing?" He asked, looking at his son and his future son in law. But, before the man could say anything else, Riku intervened, "Yes, Sora and I had a slight disagreement, but we've worked through it."
Sora nodded in agreement, his mouth too full to answer verbally. Which caused the Tanaka family to chuckle at the expecting brunet, "You boys be sure to get them tomorrow, alright?" Sephiroth said sternly, "The sooner you get them, the better."
"Yes, father." Riku promised, returning his attention to his meal. Well, half of his attention, the other half was on his fiancé whom had gone back for seconds and would probably be going back for thirds in mere minutes. Oh the joys of twins.
"I'm serious." Sephiroth said with a frown, "If I do not have them in my hand by the time I get home, I'm taking the next day off and dragging you boys to get them."
"Now, now, dear, I'm sure they'll get them." Risa said, laying her hand on her husband's arm, "Won't you? Riku? Sora?" She said, looking to her son and the boy that was like her son.
"Of course, mother." Riku said, resisting the urge to roll his eyes, "I'll make sure we get them tomorrow."
The middle aged woman nodded, "Good." She said, "Because I won't let you back in the house until you get them." She added with a sickly sweet grin.
Riku blinked, Sora actually pausing in his meal to look up at the woman, "You're...kidding, right?" The silver haired teen asked, arching an eyebrow. With his mother, one could never be sure.
Risa chuckled pleasantly, "Yes, dear! Like I'd leave you and Sora out in the heat all day! Especially since Sora's carrying my grandbabies! What kind of Grandmother would I be if I did something like that?"
"But, seriously, get those passports." Sephiroth said sternly, "And, pay the extra to get them done quickly. I'll leave you money in the morning."
Riku nodded as the family continued to eat in silence, "I'd like to leave towards the end of the month, if at all possible." Sephiroth said, a smirk appearing on his face, "I would like to leave earlier, but a certain red head has expressed interest in throwing a baby shower for Sora."
Said brunet groaned, sliding down in his seat, "She got to you too, then?" He asked, looking at the eldest Tanaka.
Sephiroth slowly nodded, "Oh yes and Risa too. I think it's a wonderful idea."
Risa beamed, "It's going to be so much fun dear! We're already talking about the theme and what colors to use!" The woman babbled on and on.
Sora pouted, pushing his plate away, "I think I lost my appetite." He grumbled before excusing himself from the table, ignoring Kadaj's remark, "Well, that's a line I'd never thought I'd hear from Sora..."
At this, Riku did roll his eyes and excused himself as well to do a little damage control. He knew that the fact that Kairi and his mother wanted to throw him a baby shower wasn't what was bothering him...it was more along the lines of his lover's delicate feelings on being treated like...well, like a girl.
--- --- ---
“You know they were just teasing you, right?” Riku said, pushing his bedroom door closed as he watched his pouting lover lay across their bed.
“I know.” Sora pouted, his lower lip jutting out, “I just don’t want a baby shower!” He whined, sitting up in bed.
Riku had to choke back a laugh, walking to the bed, “There’ll be cake?” He said, giving his lover a smile, “And, ice cream.”
“I know that! But...all the...the...girly stuff!” Sora whined, leaning against the silveret as Riku wrapped an arm around him, “I don’t think I can handle it!”
Riku snickered, pressing a kiss to his cheek, “You’ll do fine.” He reassured the other, “I promise."
The little brunet pouted, "Well, if I have to go to a baby show, then you'll have to go out with Tidus and Wakka." Sora pointed out.
The silveret groaned softly, “I dunno, Sora, I don’t think that’s such a good idea.” He said, looking down at his lover, “I’d rather just go to the baby shower with you.”
Sora shook his head, “Nope!” He chirped, “If I have to have a baby shower, then you’re having a bachelor party.” He insisted, “It’s only fair.” He turned to the elder teen, “Besides,” He started softly, “You need to have a little fun.”
“I have fun with you.” Riku pointed out, frowning as he looked away from the younger boy.
“Fun that doesn’t involve your pregnant lover.” Sora replied, resisting the urge to roll his eyes at his lover, “It’ll be fine, okay? Tidus and Wakka aren’t out to get you, so get that thought out of your head...because I know you’re thinking it.”
Riku turned his aquamarine eyes back on to his lover, “You know me too well.” He said with a sigh, wrapping his arms around his brunet, idly wondering how he could have come in here with the intent of comforting Sora and end up getting comforted himself.
--- --- ---
“Sora!” Riku called from the front door after scooping his car keys and the money his father had left for them. He was impatient to be off already since his mother had allowed them both to sleep in late since they had been obviously needing the rest, but they had so many things to do and so little time to do it in. “I’m going to go without you if you don’t hurry up!”
“I’m coming, Gosh!” The said brunet whined, making his way down the stairs, “Don’t get your panties in a bunch. One of us is carrying twins, remember?”
Wisely, Riku let the comment slide as he let the screened door close behind him, heading out to his car to get it started. Another argument right them was the last thing the couple needed.
Sora made his way downstairs and towards the front door, but not before making a detour into the kitchen to get a donut from Riku's mother. What? He was starving! After all, he was eating for three now. "I'm here, see?" The brunet said, opening the passenger door before sliding into the car, sighing heavily, "Ready to go?"
Once again, Riku chose not to point out that he had wanted to leave a full hour earlier, but his lover had prevented them from doing so. He merely looked over at his expecting little brunet, flashing him the usual grin. Then he waited, albeit a little impatiently for his little brunet to buckle up so they could be off about their business for the day.
A pout appeared on Sora's face as he climbed into the car, leaning over to press a kiss to Riku's cheek, "I think I have heart burn!" He whined, closing the door before leaning back in his seat, his hand resting on his abdomen.
Riku eyed his lover out of the corner of his eye as he started his car, "That's because you need to eat better." He said sympathetically as possible, backing out of the driveway. Sora and his sweets. That couldn't possibly be good for neither the brunet nor the babies. "I think the doctor said you were allowed to take TUMS. We'll have to pick some up for you while we're out."
The brunet slowly nodded, a pout still present on his face as he sighed heavily, "So, how'd you sleep last night?" He asked after a moment of silence between the two as Riku drove out of their neighborhood, he turned in his seat to look at his silver haired lover.
"Better than I have in a while." Riku answered honestly, only giving his lover a momentary glance. No bad dreams. No worrying. And, no more of his brother's uncomfortable bed. Though, he was positive that having Sora wrapped warmly and securely in his arms had a lot to do with that. "You?"
"Better than most nights." Sora replied, sighing softly as he rubbed his abdomen, "Though, I can't really sleep on my stomach anymore." He added in an off handed sort of way. Sleeping on his stomach was how he'd often get to sleep, so with laying on his back and sides he had a difficult time falling asleep. But, the warm presence of Riku with him the night before had more than helped his little dilemma, "How much longer do you think it'll take for me to start showing?"
Riku was silent for a moment, obviously thinking about the question, "I would have said in about a month or two...but, that was before we found out about the twins." He replied, looking over at his lover after he had stopped at a red light, "I'm assuming you'll start showing more sooner than expected." He said. At first, they were only expecting one baby and he had done his research accordingly. Now he'd have to start all over again.
Sora slowly nodded, deciding he'd look it up when they returned home, "Kairi's going to get a kick out of this, you know..." He said before snickering softly, pulling out his cell phone to text the girl the news, “She’ll have two babies to plan a shower for.”
“I thought Kairi knew about the twins.” Riku said, frowning lightly as he continued on as the light turned green, “Her and Mom were planning a baby shower and all...”
Sora shook his head, “Your Mother said that she hadn’t told.” He said, flipping his phone closed before stowing it away back in his pocket.
“Oh really?” Riku asked, turning down the street that lead to the center of town. Riku knew that Sora took everyone at face value and if they had said they were okay with them, then the brunet believed they were. The silver haired teen, on the other hand, remained dubious and still felt rather uncomfortable about being so...open with their friends about their situation. Though, Kairi did seem as enthusiastic as ever, you’d think she was the one carrying the babies. But, having a baby shower for Sora felt...weird somehow. “Is it really wise telling her about the twins?”
“Well...think of it this way...” Sora started out, turning to his lover, “Say we don’t tell her about the twins. And, when it’s time to actually have the babies we come home with two instead of one...do you really want to be around when she goes asking why we didn’t let her know?”
Riku groaned softly. His lover did have a point there. A rather valid one. “Well, okay, when you put it like that, but...she had this way of telling everyone and that’s the part I’m not really comfortable with. Let’s talk about worse case scenarios here: What if someone we know really has a problem with this and turns against you and tries to hurt you?”
"Baby, I don't foresee that happening..." Sora pointed out softly, frowning at his lover's negative outlook on things, "...especially since your Mother and probably one of your brothers will be there." He paused for a moment, "And, I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to try anything while any member of your family was there."
The couple was quiet again for a few moments until Riku stopped at another red light, "I'm getting the feeling that my baby shower will be on the same night as your bachelor party..." Sora said in an off handed voice, "Kairi mentioned something to me about telling Tidus. So I think they're planning both parties together..."
Riku's eyebrow arched as he turned to look at his little brunet, "Now, I don't like that idea even more..." He said, sighing heavily as he turned his attention back to the changing light, "I don't care if she wants to throw you a baby shower, but I kind of want to be there to make sure nothing happens."
Sora pouted, looking at his lover as he drove through the newly turned green light, "But, the father of the baby...or in this case babies, can't be there! That's like...again tradition or something!" He insisted, "Besides, you deserve to have fun instead of being cooped up with a bunch of girls."
"I-" Riku began to protest, but promptly shut his mouth upon seeing his lover's pout which just told him that Sora wouldn't be quiet about this. Exactly the reason they were in this mess in the first place. Riku preferred guys. Sora specifically. He sighed and pulled into the parking lot of the courthouse. The state's office where they needed to get their passports was be in there. "Are you sure I can trust them?" 'Them' being Wakka and Tidus.
Sora gave a soft sigh before looking over at his silver haired fiancé, "If they even thought about hurting you...not only would they have to deal with your father, your mother, and your three brothers, but they'd have to deal with your hormonal pregnant boyfriend. I think that's enough to deter anyone."
After finding a parking space, Riku sighed and rested his head against the steering wheel. "I really don't like the idea of leaving you in the hands of all those people whose motives I'm not certain about, regardless of my father or mother or one of my brother's being there... you're my responsibility."
“I know...” Sora said, frowning lightly, “...but, after everything you’ve been through, you deserve a chance to go out and have fun. I’ll be alright, I promise.”
"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were trying to get rid of me," Riku pouted, not exactly convinced that a night out with Wakka and Tidus would be a good idea.
Sora snickered softly at that before giving the silveret an innocent smile, “Now, you know I’d never do that!” He replied, even though he totally would if it meant that his lover could have fun for a night instead of being cooped up at home with him or at a baby shower with evil girls and their...shopping.
"Yes, you would," Riku accused, not at all fooled by the smile. "Especially if it meant cake and cookies and ice cream." He reached for the door handle. "Fine. I'll go, but I can't promise you that I'll have fun."
“I wasn’t even thinking about the cake, cookies, and ice cream. My mind could get past all the cooing girls, honestly.” Sora replied, looking over at his lover before leaning over to the elder teen, “Well, if you don’t have fun I’ll just after to fix that after everyone goes home, now won’t I?” He offered, a seductive little smile on his face.
Riku blinked, then laughed appreciatively as he leaned in to kiss the brunet. "I love you, Sora."
Sora grinned against the kiss, “I know.” He replied after the couple had pulled apart, “And, I love you too.”
