A/N- So after a consensus that I did on my discord server, I have come to the final decision that I am going to write in Blood and Wine... Now yes yes... I know, that is epic, and you should be excited... Now, I have not played W3 in a long while (but I have played A LOT of it), so there is a lot of things about Blood and Wine that I do not remember, so I will try and do the best I can to remember things, but tiny details like Dialogue and some side quests that are not so common? I will probably just make stuff up, because as you guys know, I love to do that, and honestly I do that a lot, and I like it because that it gives me a sort of nice control over the world that I want to make here. Or maybe I will just completely rewrite it the way I want it, with a new plot and a new timeline? I don't know yet, I'll just see where this goes. And I think you guys like it too, right? When the characters say things that aren't canon? And yes, I am talking to you Old Vows folks as well. Anyways, this is going to be fun, and there is going to be a lot of action and I am also going to skip over a lot of things, so please try and be positive and again, reviews really help.
Or maybe I will just completely rewrite it the way I want it, with a new plot and a new timeline? I don't know yet, I'll just see where this goes. I also probably will not write the entire thing, because it is a 30HR long DLC after all, and it would be a lot of content to blast through, so expect some skips in the story line, I do know which plot ending I am going to go with though, which will be a surprise!
Another thing, I won't be writing Hearts of Stone, I didn't really like the DLC in the first place and also I really don't remember a lot about it, and also it was pretty creepy so I do not want to revisit that, I will just put it in that Geralt did the stuff and that will be that... Spoiler! (kind of) The characters of both DLC's will show up later in the story, so don't get sad when this is over!
Now, enjoy!
Chapter 21- A new direction
Now I know a lot of you would have expected me to do a flashback, right? Since I didn't cover Geralt leaving, but i am actually not going to do that, I will leave it up to your guy's imagination on that one. This is the same day, right after he left.
3rd person, as usual.
Triss stood at the door way with Rita behind her, almost in tears as she watched the portal close... Geralt had left for Toussaint to do what he does best, what he loves, and save people's lives, and likely wouldn't be back for a very long while if at all... Oh what a horrid thought that is, it made her sick. She would miss him dearly, and she prayed that he would miss her too, miss her enough that he would stay faithful to her. She so wished that she could have gone with him, that he would have used her portal instead, that she could have told that bitch Fringilla to go fuck herself and eat shit, like she had so wanted to do... But didn't, because Geralt would not have approved of that kind of behavior, since he considers Fringilla to be a friend, even though it infuriated Triss that he called her a friend. But she had wished so badly that she could have gone with him, but she had to stay in Kovir, the King mandated it, she couldn't leave right after she got there... The King needed her, doubtlessly he had many things that he needed her input on, and help with, and he wouldn't let her leave immediately after she got there. She would go visit him soon though, she prayed that the gods would watch over him, and keep the girls away from him.
"What do I do now, Rita?" Triss asked, sadness and sorrow in her voice, she sounded deeply troubled. Rita sighed, bowing her head and mourning the pain that her former student and now, in a sense, daughter is feeling...
"I know this is really really hard for you Triss... But you need to keep your head held high and don't let this pull you down, you should probably get ready and head to the palace, the king is probably borderline pissed off at how "late" you are. How about this, take this chance, or freedom, to go make new friends and do things that you might not otherwise be inclined to do. Explore the city, plan out all the people and things you want to take him to meet when he gets back, you can't now, but plan when you are going to go visit him, and I'll help you with the portal when the time comes... So that you get there in one piece, alright?"
Triss knew that she should probably argue with a lot of that, but she didn't feel compelled to argue with Rita in that moment... She was no longer the student anymore, and she was even more powerful that Rita was, but this wasn't a student-teacher relationship, this was a mother-daughter relationship, and that's what made her turn around and walk past Rita down the hall and into hers and Geralt's bedroom to get changed and go to the palace to meet the king for the morning... Or what was left of the morning, at least.
As Triss walked in to the throne room she didn't get a lot of looks, just the same admiration and lustful looks from the mages and sorceresses that were gathered, and the nobles... Ugh, the nobles, what a pain in the ass. If there is one unpleasant thing she hated most about working politics, over all the other things that are a pain in the ass, are the nobles, always the nobles...
"Ahh good, Miss Merigold, I might ask what took you so long..."
"Ahh yes, but first Sire, could we please speak in private?" She asked, looking around at the parties of people that were gathered there, this was not the place that she would like to talk about what had happened.
"Of course, follow me then." Wow, the King was really nice, she could get used to this. Foltest was pretty good, but he would have chewed her out if she had been 5 hours late, like she was today. But then again, maybe that was just him showing kindness when there were people around, who knows, he could be leading her to get yelled at right now, and she wouldn't know and would be walking right into his wrath. Life was so unfair...
"Now that we're in private, Triss, I really can't have you being this late all the time, I hope this was a one time thing, understand? Now, why were you so late?"
"last night we were visited by Fringilla Vigo of Toussaint, she came with a message from the duchess that Toussaint was being terrorized by a monster or "the beast" as they call it, and she needed him to come to Toussaint and take care of it for them. Despite his and mine not wanting him to go, he is a Witcher and his sole purpose in life at one time was the protecting of humanity from monsters, so he left this morning and I stayed and spent as much time with him as I could before he left... So, forgive me."
"I- I had no idea, please, forgive me. Of course you were right to take all the time you needed, I am really proud of you for even coming in at all today, even after that. You have my condolences, your lover is a strong and legendary Witcher, he will come back. I can already sense and see that there is a lot more than meets the eye with the two of you, so I won't ask any questions, we just met after all."
"Thank you sire, I don't really feel comfortable talking about personal things with you yet, or with anyone in Kovir yet, I just got here. I need time to make friends first, and to get to know everyone."
"Absolutely, no one, especially not me, expects you to do anything but integrate at your own pace..."
"Thank you sire, I really appreciate it. Is there anything you need of me today?"
"Let's go back out into the throne room and speak."
"Yes sire, I agree." She replied, and they walked back out to the throne room.
"Miss Merigold in fact there is something that I need you to do, the farmers up north have not paid taxes nor sent food in over two weeks, I need you to take a hike up there and find out what is going on, a squadron of knights will accompany you so that you do not have to go alone, primarily as protection, I of course know you can take care of yourself but they'll skin me alive if the most important woman in the country goes alone. I fear that something bad has happened to the farms, it would be too easy if this was just a simple slip of the mind."
"Of course sire, I understand, I will go home and get my gear right away."
"Excellent, be ready to leave in two hours." He declared, and got up to go make sure that the knights were ready and would prep the horses and wagons for the trip up north. Triss turned and walked out of the throne room, and the palace, when she got out she opened a portal back to the house.
Triss teleported into her bedroom, she was kind of overwhelmed by everything that was happening and she definitely could use a kiss from Geralt right now, but he wasn't here right now, now was he? And Rita was so no replacement, sure they were close but... Just no. She was dreading tonight, when she would have to go to sleep cold and alone, exactly what she has always feared she would one day have to do.
"He's not here anymore Triss but he will come back, stop acting like a widow." She told herself as she strode over to the mirror in the room, she sighed as she looked into it, yet another failure of hers... Once again failing at making a magic item when she attempted and failed to make a new magic mirror.
Triss looked at herself in the mirror for a few minutes, examining every inch and curve of her face, every wave of her hair, she realized that she was beautiful, and just how beautiful she really was. She never took the time to sit down and really look at herself, to see the scars that were indented behind her green eyes, to see the beautiful features of her face for what they truly were... She always pictured Geralt being far out of her league, but he tells her often that she is beautiful, and that he thinks that she is the most beautiful woman in the world, oh how it makes her feel terrific when he tells her that... And then her eyes landed on the teeth marks on her neck, that were still very obvious from last night and this morning... Geralt always takes much pleasure in making sure that she is covered in his brands, that she knows who she belonged to, and making sure that every man that passes her by knows it too. She was honestly surprised that she let herself go to the palace so obviously covered, and did nothing to cover them up, since she got so un-neededly upset with him the other day, what a fucking hypocrite I am, she thought to herself. She was also very surprised that King Tancred hadn't made any comments about the bite marks on her neck, he easily could have accused her of something instead of letting her off the hook because he felt bad for her... She guessed that she should be thankful that he didn't.
She sighed and got up, she walked over to the closet and walked in, on the top shelf was the case that held her Sorceresses armor, she considered just wearing the standard travel outfit, but she thought that was lame... So she grabbed the case and carried it over to her bed, she opened it up and then backed away, she waved her hands and her clothes melted off her body, leaving her only her undergarments, she waved her hands again the suit faded onto her curvaceous form. She twirled around, looking at herself in the mirror then reached down into the case and pulled out the silver dagger, and shoved it into the sheath at her waist. Wearing the suit was the wisest thing she could do, since it was literally enchanted to be immune to the elements, and the mountains up north were going to be cold, now, you might ask how crops grow if it is that cold? Well, that's what mages are for, now aren't they?
Looking at herself one more time in the mirror, she opened another portal and teleported back to the palace. She didn't tell Rita that she might be gone for a few days, because why not? She'll be so upset, and it will be great!
As Geralt stepped out of Fringilla's portal all that was going through his head was how bad it felt to leave Triss behind, not even the thoughts about hating portals were in this head, he was only thinking about her. Truth be told he did like Fringilla, she had never done anything mean to him, or nothing very mean to him, and she was a close friend and lover for him the last time he was in Toussaint, so he didn't mind her as a person... Triss on the other hand? gods she hated her, he was sure that if he let her, Triss would smack Fringilla silly, probably more.
"Welcome back to Toussaint, Geralt, I think it missed you, I know that I did." She said as she stepped out of the portal, it closing behind her.
"I know that I am not happy to be back, I never wanted to leave my peaceful new life, but here I am anyways... And don't you go trying anything Fringilla."
"Me? I wouldn't dare!"
Yeah right, he thought to himself, Triss always said that Fringilla always looked like a lost puppy following her master when she was around him, and he saw now that that was true, so she must actually have fallen in love with him the last time they were together in Toussaint, and they had an affair, but too bad for her that now he was Triss's, and she would never let him go... But it didn't matter since Geralt had literally no physical or mental attraction to Fringilla in anyway, and he just barely tolerated her as a friend, so there wasn't any threat to Triss that he would cheat on her. Honestly he couldn't believe that he was even thinking about this, he was completely loyal to her, and he didn't even like Fringilla that way anymore.
"So where are you taking me?" He asked her as they walked down the Toussaint road, conveniently named the Toussaint road because that it was the main road into the country of Toussaint, it stretched above and along a river that was the main river surrounding the province of Toussaint.
"The palace seems like the right place, but I honestly don't know where the Dutchess is right now, she might be at the fair grounds or the arena because there is supposed to be a showing going on there today-"
Before he even got the chance to respond or for her to add more they heard a deafening roar come from up ahead and a huge smashing sound, and a following roar.
RAAAAWR! SMASH!
Without giving her any warning her ran off toward the sound, she cursed and ran off after him. When they got to the clearing, surrounded by houses, he saw that this small Knight was taking on a giant that was at least 10x his own size.
He suddenly got flashbacks of Ol' Speartip from Kaer Morrhen, although this giant was not that big. It also made him think of something he read in an article about giants, that Triss picked up at the market for him a few months back, it said that the giants brain is so close to the eyeballs that a crossbow bolt to the eye can kill them instantly, even a small bolt, can take down such a large monster... So he figured that he would try it out, he got his crossbow of his back and loaded an explosive-penetrating bolt into it and aimed it at the giant's eye.
He waited until the giant was standing up straight and when he finally got the perfect shot, he fired. He tracked the bolt as it flew with his incredible Witcher eyes, and watched as it is struck the giant in the eye with precision accuracy and watched as the bolt punctured his eye and exploded, imploding the giant's head and making the giant fall to the ground.
"Holy shit, remind me not to piss you off... Where the fuck did you learn how to do that?" Fringilla asked, running up behind him.
"From a book, where I learned pretty much everything." He responded to her, not even looking over his shoulder as he put the crossbow back on his back.
He walked into the scene and over to the young Knight who had been battling the giant before he arrived, and asked him what he was doing here all alone taking on a giant.
"Yes, Guillaume what lady are you attempting to impress this time..." A voice called from afar, Geralt looked up as two armored horses galloped up, two heavily armored Knights on their backs.
"Palmerin!?" Geralt asked, astounded at the appearance of his old friend.
"Geralt!"
"How you been, man? I haven't seen you in ages!"
"Life is swell serving her majesty, her splendor the Dutchess of Toussaint!"
"Oh gag me..." Fringilla commented from behind.
"A patriot as ever, Palmerin, nice to see you. Who is the young Knight's errant that was about to be crushed for morning jelly?"
"Guillaume, my nephew. Most likely to 'mpress some lady, likely well above his status... As usual."
"The most beautiful of them all!" Guillaume exclaimed, raising his hand in the air.
"Pfft," came another comment from Fringilla, crossing her arms and looking away.
"I understand you, although there are many ways to impress a girl without getting yourself killed, trust me, I know... Anyways, how did a giant get here anyways?"
"They say the giant was once human, a knight named David, a high ranking one at that, however he did wrongs against Bouclair and Toussaint and broke all five of the sacred vows of a Knight, they say the goddess, the Lady of the Lake punished him and turned him into a giant, forever cursed to live a life of pain... Hated by all who saw him."
He barely even payed attention to what Palmerin said after "Lady of the Lake," his eyes bulging and his mind immediately racing to all the different ways of what that could mean for him, he had to find his old friend, the goddess, known as the Lady of the Lake.
When Triss got back to the palace, she stepped out of her portal, it opened on the designated portal platform that was designated for Sorceresses and mages to use as a platform for the portals to and from the palace, instead of opening random ones across the courtyard, they had a large platform designed for it, and it was honestly much safer for everyone.
As she walked up to the palace she got looks from a lot of people and she got a lot of "Good morning, My lady," and "You look beautiful as usual, My Lady," which made her feel good about herself at the least, but she wondered how they knew that she always looked beautiful if she had only just arrived yesterday. As she walked past the guards at the opening to the palace she gave them a smile and they saluted as she went by, snapping to attention to acknowledge her. It was really nice if she was to be honest, to be recognized so well for being the King's mage advisor, in Temeria she didn't get nearly as much recognition for it.
2HRS later
Triss walked up to the Knights that were gathered as her escort on her mission, they were armed to the teeth as she could tell the King was more than a little confident that this was a major problem as in the farm got attacked rather than just a slip of the mind.
"My Lady, we are ready to depart."
"How long will it take us to get there? And where exactly are we going?"
"We are going to a large remote farm up in the mountains of Kovir, it snows there all year round, however it is located inside of a forest and protected from the cold weather by a wise old Sorceress named Sicilia Beltran, which is also why the crops can get back to the city fresh and undamaged. It will take us about three days to get there from horse back, we have everything packed for the journey already, plenty of food and water as well as food for the horses and plenty of warm blankets, we've also marked off designated places to make camp along the way for the night." The Knight captain informed her, she didn't like the sound of that at all, but she supposed that she shouldn't have been expecting something easy.
"Wow, I'm impressed to say the least. What is your name, Captain?"
"Edward, My Lady, Edward Allen."
"I will not forget it, Captain. Now, let us embark on our journey." She instructed and mounted her horse, the rest of the Knights did the same and the two carriage drivers shook the reigns and the party was on their way.
A/N- That is all you are getting from me for now, I have been prioritizing this lately so you'll be fine, I'm gonna start on the next chapter almost immediately... Hope this one was good, I thought I did a good job writing it.
What are your thoughts on how this going? Please tell me, I need to know what you guys want from me going on into Blood and Wine.
