Kid and Dominique were both feeling rather hungry and quite thirsty as they neared the NCR. The food supplies they had had ran out the day before they arrived at the settlement around Vault 15. To keep their minds off their hunger and thirst, Kid and Dominique talked about things, mostly about Dominique's life. Kid eventually asked her what the inside of Vault 15 was like. "Well, first you have to find an elevator in the side of a cliff. That takes you down pretty deep in the ground, and when it stops, you're in a cave. Then there's the vault door. It looks like this huge cog, a big gear, stuck in the wall. You have to use a computer terminal by it to get it to open. Then there are three floors on the inside, the entry one, the second floor, and the third. The first used to be a medical station of sorts. The second mostly had dormitories. The third had the Overseer, the armoury, recreation centers, and library computers. The hallways and doors are mostly rusted now because the vault door was broken open ages ago. By raiders too, I think." Dominique said.
Kid asked "Those raiders, were they th-the Scaled Hiss?" Dominique shook her head. "No, I'm not sure what they were called, but I know they weren't the Scaled Hiss. These other raiders took over the vault for a while before somebody came along and killed them all. I'm not sure who, but I think I heard that they run New Arroyo now. Reminds me of a story my mother used to tell me when I was younger..." Kid glanced over to her, the NCR coming closer into view. "Tell me about it." He said. Dominique said "Well, she used to tell me stories about someone named the "Vault Dweller". She said that a long time ago, super mutants were in this huge army, and they were going around destroying entire towns and kidnapping people, making more super mutants with them. This "Vault Dweller" guy appeared from Vault 13 I believe, and destroyed something in a military base somewhere, stopping the super mutants from making any more. Then he went to a church somewhere, where the leader of the super mutants lived, and he killed the leader." Kid raised his eyebrows. "I saw a super mutant in Rister, he was p-pretty big. Their leader must have been huge."
Dominique said "I'm not sure. My mother never mentioned what the leader looked like. She said that a cult lived in the church, and they sometimes mentioned someone named "the Master", but my mother said she couldn't be sure. She said it was a story that had been passed down through her family for ages, so some of it could be wrong. I never thought much of it, I figured it was just a legend, but after the stuff that happened at home, you know, with the other people hurting my sister and I, I noticed something in the NCR." Kid looked over to her again. "What was it?" Dominique stretched in her seat for a moment, saying "While my sister and I were still healing, I noticed that there was the statue of a man outside the president's building in the NCR. He had a vault jumpsuit on with a "13" on his back. There was an inscription on it, but I can't quite remember what it said. It said that the statue was of the Vault Dweller, but then I think it said something about how he wasn't real and that sometimes we have to make up figures in our minds to inspire us to greater heights."
Kid asked "Do you think he was real?" Dominique shrugged lightly. "Super mutants aren't raging through the lands and spreading like crazy like in the story, so...I don't know. I heard super mutants live forever, so the next time I see one I'll ask what happened back then. I think there's a few super mutants in the NCR, so..." Kid nodded in understanding. The high sandy walls of the NCR could be easily seen now. It was hardly a kilometer away. They drove up in another five minutes or so, reaching an outskirts-type area. Several buildings were built outside the tall, pale walls of the NCR, a few tents and stalls being erected, as well. Kid parked the car by the outskirts, a few people looking at the car and whistling. He pushed open the door beside him, slipping the car's keys into his pocket, stepping outside. Dominique did the same, leaving her gasmask inside the car, the two of them closing the doors on their respective sides. Looking around, Kid took in a deep breath of air, smiling slightly.
Dominique said "Where do you think Ronald's caravans are?" Kid shrugged lightly and said "Might not even be here yet. We might want t-to wait around for a day or two." Dominique nodded. She suddenly spotted a super mutant nearby, holding a large flamethrower, standing by a tent. She quickly walked over, saying "Um, excuse me? Can I ask you something?" The super mutant looked down to her. "Shoot." He said. Dominique said "Well...Um...I heard stories about someone named the "Vault Dweller"." At the mention of the name, the super mutant's eyes darkened a little. "Yeah?" He said. Dominique said "Well, I was wondering if you knew if he was real or not?" The super mutant nodded. "He was real, alright." Dominique nodded slightly and said "Thank you." She turned around and walked back to the Highwayman, Kid having begun to fuel it to full capacity. "I just asked a super mutant. He said that the Vault Dweller was real." Kid nodded. "Well, there you go, there's your answer." He said.
Dominique nodded. Kid finished refuelling the car, tossing away the dead small energy cells. Dominique stepped closer to him, slipping her hands along his ribs, bringing him closer to her. He raised an eyebrow curiously. Dominique smiled. She slowly brought her face next to his, bringing her head down a little bit, bringing her mouth near his neck. He wondered what she was trying to do, but within a moment it became clear. She pressed a few soft kisses to him, Kid blinking a few times in reaction, a light fluttery feeling drifting up from his stomach. He couldn't help but let out a slightly-shaky breath. He slowly reached his arms up around her shoulders, holding her back. Dominique kissed him softly a few more times before bringing her head back, looking into his eyes.
He smiled a little, Dominique smiling happily when she saw his face. "You're blushing a little, Kid..." Kid smiled a little more, looking off to the side quietly. Dominique nearly grinned. She brought her face closer to his, pressing her lips to his own, closing her eyes. Kid closed his eyes, kissing her back lightly, the two of them continuing their actions for a bit. Dominique released Kid lightly after a bit, smiling and blushing a little, herself. Kid smiled more. Dominique took one of his hands in one of her's, walking over with him to the hood of the car. They sat down on it together, Dominique sitting close to him, Kid slowly reaching an arm around her, Dominique only smiling more in reaction. They sat in silence, relaxing together, simply letting time slip by as they looked out into the distance.
"I wouldn't talk to her if I were you. Looks like trouble." A man stood at a bar in the Shark Club, looking over to a figure sitting by the stage, watching the comedian's act. The one that he had spoken to, another man, stood by the bar, as well. They both took in what the figure looked like. She was wearing some form of a combination of green combat armour and a dark purple robe. She didn't appear to be wearing the pants of the combat armour, only the robe's purple fabric was visible hanging down around her lower limbs. The dark green plates of the combat armour were sewn into the purple robe, as well as a second set being worn over it on the robe as a vest of sorts, resulting in twice the protection but also twice the weight. The robe had a hood to it, it being pulled over the figure's face, shying it away. Her hands were invisible under the gloves she wore. Her left hand had a rare Shredder glove on, the glove itself being made out of black leather, small steel claws attached to the ends of each finger, even the thumb, almost making her hand appear like an animal's.
Her right hand had a different glove on, the glove being less rare and known as a Sapper, also made of black leather. The Sapper had lead worked into pockets over the knuckles of it with added padding on the back of the hand to protect it, offering the user a much stronger punch. Sitting in her lap was a Steyr assault rifle, a fully-loaded clip sticking out of it slightly. The second man smiled a little and looked at the figure a bit more from the bar. Her chin was faintly visible, her skin being pale and light. He turned and looked at the bartender. "Hey, bud, you know that chick over there?" The bartender walked over, adjusting his glasses, looking out at the girl. He said "Oooh, I do indeed. She's a nasty piece of work that likes to call herself...Are you ready for this?..."Libitina". Fancy name huh?" One of the men scoffed lightly. "What makes her a nasty piece of work?" He asked. The bartender said "Well, I don't see her often, but I remember one time a while back, she came in and ordered a drink. Normal drink, just probably wanted to unwind from a trip or something."
One of the men nodded, the other looking back to the figure. She was rocking her left set of fingers gently, drumming them against the table, the claws of her glove clacking against the tabletop lightly. The bartender said "Some guy tried to hit on her. She seemed to want to hook up too, but there was a catch." "Catch?" The man asked, looking to the bartender, shifting his vision from the girl. The bartender nodded. "She pulled up her robe right at the bar and told the guy to eat her out, chick wasn't wearing panties or anything. She said that if he could make her cum in less than seven minutes, she'd make all his dreams come true. Probably would have let him do her up the ass and give him some Jet, I dunno, but that's what she said, "make all your dreams come true". The guy started going at it right there at the bar, got down on the ground and started messing with her between the legs. A bit of a crowd cheered him on, too. That's when she quietly said what would happen if he didn't make her cum in less than seven minutes." Both the men were listening intently.
The bartender said "She said she'd make his life a living hell. She said he'd be wishing that he was dead if he couldn't do it. I don't know if he didn't hear her or if he didn't care, but he kept eating that thing like he had just gone through some sort of pussy famine. One thing I noticed that was weird, though...She kept her robes at a certain point. She raised them enough just barely to show her cunt, but she never raised it higher than that, in fact, she kept her hands down on herself just above her pussy, like she was trying to keep the robe there to hide something. Maybe she has an ugly botched tattoo or something, I dunno." One of the men asked "Did he manage to get her to cum?"
The bartender took in a breath. "Well, after a bit of time, the girl told him to stop. She said he hadn't done it in time, that he had "failed", that was the word she had used. She wasn't even blushing, she must have either a really high stamina or a flat-out inability to cum, 'cuz man, this guy was going at her clit like it was something else, I tell you what. He keeps going like he didn't hear her. She smacks him on the head and tells him to stop. He finally does. She says that he has to "pay". The guy shrugs. He figures she's a hooker, I guess. She tells him to come into the bathroom with him. They walk in. Next thing you know, screams are coming from the bathroom. A guy's screams."
Both men raised their eyebrows. The bartender nodded. "The bouncers tried getting in, but the door was locked. Screams kept coming from that room, real scary shit. Eventually they stopped. When the bouncers finally shot open the door, there was blood all over the walls and floor." One of the men asked "What happened? Did she kill him?" The bartender made a bit of a face, like he was disgusted by memories. "Sort of. She gouged out his eyes. She cut out his tongue. She pulled out his four front teeth. She cut off his arms and legs, stuck one in a toilet each. She cut his pecker off and jammed it down his throat into his stomach. She wrote "HE FAILED" in all capitals across a wall in his own blood, in cursive, too. One strange thing though was that there was a kiss on the guy's forehead, you know, lipstick was on his forehead. A window in the bathroom had been opened, she slipped out an alley."
Both men looked a little rattled. "The guy wasn't dead, though. She had hooked him up to some weird medical pack, I had never seen anything like it before. It kept pumping the guy full of drugs, it must have been keeping him alive. We were afraid to move him, none of us knew what to do. This was some nightmarish shit. We knew he was alive because he would made noises every little bit, groan, you know? Plus, we felt that he still had a heartbeat. The guy didn't finally die for a few hours. He finally just stopped breathing after a bit." One of the men asked "If she did all that....How the hell is she allowed back in here?" The bartender laughed. "Would you want to try to stop the bitch that did that? I had to clean the place up after, trust me, I wouldn't step in her way no matter how much anyone tried to pay me. Besides, she's wearing different clothes now, nobody recognizes her. This happened a while ago, remember?"
Both men nodded, one of them quietly saying "Damn, I was planning on hitting on her, too...Shit man, good thing I talked to you, first!" The bartender raised his eyebrows quickly, saying "Yeah, lucky you." Suddenly, both men heard footsteps approaching them from behind, the bartender smiling warmly and saying "Nice to see you again, Libitina. Can I get you something?" The eyes of both men went wide. A soft and quiet feminine voice spoke behind them. "I was wondering if you had any Fusion Cola or After Burner Gum?" Both men turned their heads slightly, seeing her to be standing close to them. The curves of her body were invisible due to her armour. A few strands of fiery red hair hung down the inside of her hood, near her chin. Her mouth was visible now. She was wearing blood-red lipstick. The rest of her face was shadowed by her hood. The bartender shrugged. "Sorry Libitina, no more Fusion Cola, the stuff's pretty hard to find. But I do have a few pieces of After Burner. You want one? It'll cost fifty caps."
The girl reached her clawed hand out, her hand open, her palm facing the ceiling. "Put it on my tab. I'll have tons of money for you soon enough." She said softly. There was something about her voice that frightened the two men at the bar. She didn't really look or sound too dangerous, but there was just a simple presence about her, like a haze of malice that drifted from within the hood of her robe. The man sucked his teeth for a moment before reaching under the bar and grabbing something, handing a small square object to her a second later. She pulled the wrapping off it, revealing a small piece of what looked like chewy candy, a piece of gum with a red outside and a wavy green center. She popped it into her mouth and began to chew, crunching up the wrapper and dropping it to the top of the bar. She waved to the bartender, the bartender waving back, the girl turning and walking away, leaving.
One of the men let out a sigh of relief. "For a second I thought she heard us, I thought she was going to come up here and cut our throats or some shit like that." The second chuckled softly. Libitina left the Shark Club, walking down a nearby street and slowly leaving, entering the outskirts, eventually leaving New Reno altogether. She had lost the boy she was following days before, but she would find him again. She knew he had driven to the south and that there weren't that many interesting locations to the south. She'd start her search at the NCR. She needed to find him. He was part of her past. She had nightmares about her past, but she couldn't quite figure out exactly what the dreams meant. She had recognized his face the moment she saw it, however. She had seen him in Rister a few days back. His face was the one thing she saw as clear as crystal through the blur of her nightmares. When he reached New Reno, he had driven south in a Highwayman. She would find him, she would find out what he knew about her, she'd find out why she had no recollection of her life before a few weeks prior to seeing him. Disappearing into the distance, she walked with a mission, heading south rather quickly.
Within a few hours, near the end of the day, Kid and Dominique began to hear Ronald's caravans on the wind. Watching as the carts slowly made it to the outskirts of the city, the carts pulled into a small patch of land, coming to a stop, everyone hopping out of their carts. People immediately began to flock to them, Ronald's guards watching them all keenly. Kid chuckled softly. "Looks like we're going to have to wait." He said. Dominique shrugged lightly, still leaning against Kid, resting with his arm around her. "I don't mind..." She said softly. Kid smiled a little. The two of them waited until the sun began to set, when Ronald finally began to tell people to leave, that his carts were closed for the rest of the day. Kid and Dominique approached them then, Ronald waving to them in a friendly manner as they began to approach, Kid and Dominique both returning his wave. Tansy smiled and waved to him, Kid waving back. As the two of them reached the carts, Ronald said "Heh, beat us here, eh? I saw you an' your lady parked over there, must have gotten here pretty quickly, huh?"
Kid shrugged slightly. "I suppose so." Ronald chuckled a little. A pause drifted up between everyone. Ronald suddenly said "Well m'boy, I had a talk with Tansy. Well, more like she had a talk with me, heh. It seems like she wants to help you find the vault you came from. I told her it was fine, but that you guys were gonna have some trouble finding it without at least a map. So let me go get you guys one, the NCR has done a pretty good job of drawing up the land around here, so they should have some good ones inside the city." Kid nodded, Ronald walking away and heading towards a large archway nearby, walking into the city. Kid watched him leave for a few seconds, turning and looking forwards again afterwards. For a split-second, he thought he could see Dawn. He blinked. He had been mistaken, it was Tansy. Tansy's hair and face made her look a little like Dawn with the light shining in his eyes, but only enough to trick Kid's eyes for a moment. Even though he had been mistaken just for a second, memories of Dawn flooded up inside him, Kid looking downwards slightly, closing his eyes in sadness.
He raised a hand to his face, sighing softly. "Kid?...Something wrong?" Dominique asked beside him. He took a step away from her, saying "Just....Let me be alone for a bit...." Dominique's face was confused. Kid walked away from everyone, Tansy and Mandy also watching him leave with confused faces. Kid walked along the high sandy wall protecting the NCR against potentially dangerous people simply wandering inside. He reached a few rocks sitting in a pile together like rubble, sitting down on one. He couldn't help but let a few tears run down his face. Everything exploded back into his mind. Dawn was dead. She was gone. He'd never see her again. He'd never hold her close again. She was totally and absolutely gone. He gritted his teeth in emotional pain. He missed her, he could lie to anyone else if he had too, but not to himself. He missed her like she was the breath of life and joy, itself. He'd do anything to have her back. Pain was flooding through his heart like cruel poison.
He let out a few more tears, shutting his eyes tight to try and stop them. It took a few minutes for him to finally calm down. Even when he had, he simply stayed seated on the rock, looking out into the distance. The sun was getting close to the horizon, it would be setting soon, and with that setting, darkness would arrive. He didn't mind; the darkness reminded him of some of the good times with Dawn. The light scent of her. The way she'd smile. Her eyes. The way she'd protect him. The way she was kind to him. Those memories started out sweet but quickly turned sour, only making him miss her more painfully, Kid beginning to weep once again as the sun grew closer and closer to setting. He didn't want Dominique, Tansy, Mandy, or any other girl that showed an interest in him. He wanted Dawn back. He wanted Dawn.
Dominique watched sadly from Ronald's carts. She didn't know what was wrong, but it was clear that Kid was saddened by something. She figured it was probably memories of Dawn. Dominique wasn't looking to replace her and become Kid's new lover, she wouldn't mind if that happened, but that's not what she was trying to do. She was only trying to make him feel better and to move on; Dawn was dead, no amount of sadness would bring her back. She didn't like seeing him sad, it made her sad. She cared about Kid, he was a friend but at the same time he was more than that. Dominique caught Tansy tossing glances Kid's way, as well. She wondered if Tansy found Kid attractive. Another girl, Mandy, would look at Kid a few times, as well. Nobody else seemed to care. Terra, the tribal girl, was talking to Sheldon peacefully. The guard whose name Dominique didn't know, the one with the shaved head and metal armour, smoked a cigarette by a cart, relaxing in silence by himself.
A voice broke Dominique's thoughts, bringing her back to reality. "Hey, what's wrong with Kid?" Dominique blinked a few times, mumbling "Hmm?" Looking into the face of the voice's owner, she realized it was Tansy. Tansy raised her eyebrows, saying "What's wrong with Kid? He left and now he's off by himself." Dominique shook her head slightly, looking down to the ground. "...He's remembering his lost love..." Tansy looked at Dominique curiously. "His lost what?" She asked. Dominique simply shook her head again lightly, not willing to repeat her soft words. "His lost love, what do you mean?" Tansy asked after a moment, thinking for a second and realizing what Dominique had said. Dominique only said one word in reply. "...Dawn..." Dominique looked to Kid once more, Tansy staring at Dominique curiously. "...Is Dawn even a name?" Tansy asked, turning to Sheldon.
Sheldon chuckled, a smirk on his face. "That's a funny question, coming from a girl with a name like Ta-" Tansy cut him off, running up to him and grabbing his face, covering his mouth with her hand. Her eyes were dark as she quietly hissed between her teeth. "Shut the fuck up Sheldon or I'll string you up in the wastes for some wanamingos to munch on!" Sheldon pushed her back a few steps, saying "Jeez, alright, relax! Christ, I was kidding, Tansy!" She looked at him darkly for a few seconds before calming down. Dominique kept looking out to Kid. She wanted to make him happy, she wanted to make him forget his pain. The only thing stopping her was that she didn't know what to do. She didn't know how to make him happy, she didn't know how to make him forget. She sighed a little, still watching him as the sun turned gold from the setting sun.
Kid slowly returned to the group after the sun had set, making sure to calm down fully and wipe away any tears from his face. Dominique watched him return. "Kid, are you okay?..." She asked quietly. He softly said "Of course." Dominique was about to say something else when she simply stopped herself, nodding lightly. Tansy immediately asked him a question. "Kid...Who's Dawn?" Kid looked into her eyes. Dominique's eyes widened in fear. She knew right then and there that she never should have said anything to Tansy. Tansy's question could sadden Kid deeply, Dominique knew that. Kid simply stared into Tansy's one visible eye for a few moments before quietly saying "Somebody that...I used to know. That's all." Tansy nodded slightly. "Um...Alright..." Just then, Ronald walked back out of the city, walking over to them. He had a folded-up piece of paper in his hands. He waved it in the air towards them as he approached. "Got the map right here, took a look at it myself, it's a pretty decent one."
He handed it to Kid, Kid unfolding it and looking at it. It was a grid of some kind, several circles drawn into it, names just under the circles. He spotted New Reno and Rister, Illust and the settlement around Vault 15. Right beside it was the NCR, where they were now. Right beside the NCR was Vault 13. Several more locations were marked out. Kid said "Well, this is okay, but it doesn't t-tell me where any mountains are." Ronald nodded. "I know, I tried finding a map of the mountains but nobody had one. But what I'm thinking is that...See on the map?....The whole map is separated into squares. Each one if about a day and a half to walk, if you do it quickly. What I was thinking was that we check every inch of every square until we find the vault you're from." Tansy raised her eyebrows. "Ronald, that could take forever!" Ronald raised an eyebrow. "It'll be no picnic, you're right about that. I figure it could take a few months at least. Every time we get to a city or a town, we can trade for supplies and take a rest. Eventually though, if we do it this way, we'll find the vault."
Dominique took a look at the map, raising her eyebrows. "Combing the wasteland will take a long time...Isn't there a faster way? There has to be!" Ronald said "Not if we want a guarantee of finding the place. It'll take a while, yes, I know. But doing it like this will guarantee we'll find the little bugger." Kid slowly said "Ronald, this will surely cut into your business, don't t-tell me it won't...Why are you so willing to help me with th-this? It's a big commitment..." Ronald smiled a little and said "It's simple, m'boy. This world is full of enough shit to give everyone and their grandma triple servings. Most people don't help and only add more bad stuff, you know what I mean, raiders and slavers and the such. What the world really needs right now is people who are willing to go out of their way to help the people around them. I'm trying to help make this wasteland better, with my trading caravans, with favours for little people, everybody, even if it means going out of my way to help one person at a time." Kid smiled a little. "...Thanks, Ronald. You're a good guy....I'm happy to call you a friend."
Ronald grinned lightheartedly and threw an arm around Kid's shoulders. "Think nothing of it mate, proud to call you a buddy, too. For a teenager, you're not too bad. I'm glad you didn't shoot me the first time we met, then somebody would have shot you in revenge and we'd both be dead. Where would we be then? If that happened, none of this would have happened, and frankly, I don't have a problem with it all. Always nice to have another friend." Kid smiled a little more, chuckling lightly. Dominique smiled to herself. She was happy to see Kid coming into a lighter mood. Kid slowly said "So...Are we starting the search tonight, or t-tomorrow morning?" Ronald took his arm around Kid's shoulders, saying "Tonight? Pfft, fuck that. Let's start this in the morning, hmm?" Kid nodded. "Sounds good to me." He said. Ronald said "Alright, well...I'm already feeling a little tired, so I'll be packing it in for the night. I don't know about anyone else, but I know I'm done for the day."
Kid nodded, feeling a little tired himself, Ronald walking over to his cart, getting in it with a bit of a sigh. The unnamed guard with the shaved head kept looking out into the distance, smoking another cigarette, drinking from a bottle of beer now. Terra and Sheldon kept talking in friendly tones quietly, smiling at each other. Mandy sat by herself in her cart, relaxing silently. Tansy smiled at Kid, glancing at Dominique for a second before stepping closer to him, kissing him on his left cheek. She murmured "Goodnight..." before turning around and heading for her cart. Dominique's eyes widened a little, looking at Kid. Kid looked over to her. "What was that all about?" She asked. Kid shrugged. "No clue...Anyway, let's get some sleep." Dominique nodded, the two of them walking back to the Highwayman. It sat where they had parked it, almost like an obedient animal, the two of them getting inside. Kid sat in the driver's seat, Dominique clearing the backseat of items, pushing them down into the space between the front and back seats. She dropped her gas mask down by the items as well, keeping it in arm's reach.
They both relaxed in silence for a few minutes before Dominique quietly said "Kid?..." Kid said "Yeah?" Dominique softly suggested "It can't be too comfortable up there, trying to sleep while still sitting up...Why don't you lie down here in the back with me?..." Kid remained silent for a moment. He turned and looked behind his seat to her. She looked back into his face. He raised an eyebrow curiously. Dominique smiled a little. "Come on Kid, you can't tell me that sitting in that chair is comfortable enough to sleep right. Sleep back here with me, you'll be able to lie down and stretch your legs..." Kid took in a slow breath. He opened the door beside him, stepping outside of the car for a second. He got back in the automobile in the backseat, closing the door behind himself. He was on his knees by her legs, curiously asking "How exactly will this work?"
Dominique smiled happily and held her hands out, saying "Just lie down on me, lie in my arms and relax, find some peace and sleep, mon chéri..." Kid didn't move for a moment, eventually getting down on her slowly, resting the side of his face on the backseat slightly, the front of his face near her neck and the side of her face. She wrapped her arms around him, closing her eyes with her smile still, Kid keeping his hands near her hips. "In the morning we'll go get some food, then we'll be able to get rid of our hunger..." Kid nodded gently in agreement. A gentle night breeze blew on the air, drifting through the car and cooling the air calmly, running around their bodies like some sort of living thing. Kid closed his eyes. Lying with her felt nice, it was calming. Before he even knew it, he had drifted off to sleep, Dominique following him rapidly.
He was running through white halls once more. The walls were so clean, so sparkling clean. He was tackled to the ground. He turned around under his attacker. It was the man with the gasmask. He raised up a syringe half-filled with a glowing green substance. Kid shouted out in fear. The man shot the syringe downwards. Kid saw his hands shoot up and grab the man's wrist, the point of the syringe trembling just above Kid's throat. People began to race down the hall towards them. The man's arm was pushed to the side by Kid, the tip of the syringe breaking against the hard ground beneath them. The man let out an angry shout, punching Kid across the face rather hard. Kid squirmed out from under him and took off once more. Running around a corner, someone ducked low and rammed into his legs, flipping Kid over him onto the ground. Kid kicked out at the man, getting up and racing away. At the end of the hall was a window of sorts.
He was running for his life. Panic was running through his veins just as strongly as adrenaline. He rammed into the window, smashing his fists against it, cracking it slightly as he began shouting for help. People looked at him in shock, but did nothing. He heard shouts behind him. He looked to the right, seeing another hallway. He kept moving, seeing a large flat door at the end. He could see something on the door, a large engravement of sorts, being two numbers. He ran, people beginning to catch up to him. He could feel their fingertips brushing against his back; they were so close to grabbing him, it was terrifying. The door came closer and closer. he finally saw it! He rammed into the door, being pushed against it by several people, all of them grabbing his arms and twisting them around him, holding them against his back. The side of his face pressed to the door, he could finally see the number on it.
"Kid, Kid, stop! You're hurting me! Please, stop it!" Kid's eyes snapped open. He was lying in the back of the car, alone. His hands were red and sore. He looked up. It was still night. Dominique stood outside the car, the door on the passenger's side being open. She had a scared look on her face. "Kid, you were going psycho, you were thrashing around and hitting me and the inside of the car all over, why?! You kept shouting for me to let you go and not to hurt you! What did I do?" Kid immediately shut his eyes tight, waiting a moment before saying "...I'm sorry...I had a nightmare...A pretty freaky one..." Dominique's face immediately softened. She got back in the car, closing the door behind herself. "Oh...Sorry, I should have realized that...It's okay...I guess it was bad, huh?..." Kid nodded softly, raising his hands to his face, stretching slightly as he mumbled "Bad things can be seen, lying around with your eyes closed..." Dominique slipped her arms around his waist, pulling him closer, lying down and getting him to lie down on top of her.
"It's okay...What did you see?...Must have been awful..." Kid nodded. The number from the door was burning in his mind. "I don't think I've ever seen so much at one t-time..." He said. Dominique asked "What happened?...Do you want to talk about it?..." Kid slowly said "No...But...I think I know the number of the vault now..." Dominique softly asked "What is it?..." Kid closed his eyes, beginning to drift back to sleep. "Mmm....Seventeen..." He murmured lightly. Dominique thought on it. She had never heard of a Vault 17. Kid softly whispered "Seventeen..." once more before drifting back to a deep slumber. Dominique made sure to remember the number, closing her eyes and falling back asleep, as well. Kid's rest was peaceful for the rest of the night; his mind was free of nightmares until the sun rose.
