Sirena watch as Evelyn walked past with what looked like determination on her face. She glanced back down at Varric to see him peering over at someone. It was then she realized that whatever conversation they were having had died. She then saw the dwarf look up at her. The American knew they had the same line of thought going through their heads. Something was going to happen.
“Both Curly and Evelyn are walking towards the chantry. What was said during the last meeting?” He asked hoping to get some answers.
“The veteran templars are coming sooner than the others to settle in and help with the breach. Evelyn was advised to talk to them and all that she needed to do to prepare for the closing of the breach.” Sirena informed Varric in on what had was said in the war room.
“Is there a way she could prepare quickly?”
“It would be impossible honestly… Though, I would not put it past her.” She said before shrugging her shoulders.
“You may need to head over to the war room.” The American nodded her head in agreement, taking a step backwards. She didn’t want to miss the next meeting, that much she knew.
“I may or may not be able to chat later. I don’t know what’s going to happen.” That was clearly a lie since she did know what was going to happen; she did play the game multiple times. Her blue-green eyes caught sight of Varric waving his hand at her like he was telling her to get going.
“Yeah, I get it. You might end up getting busy with Inquisition stuff. Don’t just stand there and get going, you don’t want to keep them waiting.” The Herald’s “cousin” nodded her head again then ran off towards the Chantry to catch up with the Herald of Andraste. It was fairly easy to run when there was a clear path where the snow didn’t cover the ground. That meant less chance of slipping and falling on her face. When she looked over towards the Chantry, there was Evelyn Trevelyan in front of the doors. Sirena ran towards the woman who took her in as family which she found very odd still. Why trust someone she didn’t know? If the shoe were on the other foot, she would have sent herself to be questioned. After she was standing next to the older woman, the American spoke up so she could know what was going on.
“Hey Evelyn, what are you doing at the Chantry?” Trevelyan glanced down at the girl before answering her question while taking a deep breath.
“I have prepared myself for the closing of the breach. I have also talked to the templars and they had already come up with a plan so here I am on my way to the war room to discuss it with the others.” Sirena watched her push the doors open before making her way to the room they needed to go to and it was going to be the time Evelyn was to become the true Herald of Andraste.
As soon as they were inside the room where they assigned missions; they had moved to their designated spots. The outlander looked over the map and noticed there were not a whole lot to be done for reports. It was then she heard the door open behind her as footsteps were also heard. Seemed like the meeting would commence soon after everyone showed they were paying attention. The young American looked around to see everyone in their spots, waiting for their Herald to speak while silently passing their reports to her. She raised a brow at everyone and shook her head before skimming the words on each report before passing them back to the owners while giving one nod of approach. Sirena then gave them new assignments as they continued to wait for the Herald to speak.
“It’s time.” Evelyn simply said with her head held high and the foreign to Thedas knew what that meant. It meant it was time to close the breach.
“Are you sure you and the templars are ready? You must be certain.” The Commander asked not believing it was enough time for them to be ready to close the breach.
“I already had a chat with them, they are ready and so am I. We will set out tomorrow.” With that, the Herald walked out of the room with Cassandra following her lead, leaving the four behind in the war room. The three advisors then looked at Sirena like they expected her to say something which confused her.
“What?”
“That wasn’t a whole lot of time to prepare for a plan to close the breach.” Leliana had pointed out. The American girl didn’t need to look at the others to know they were thinking the same thing as well. “Do you know why it was so quick?” Sirena shook her head before she answered the spymaster verbally.
“I don’t know. I’m not that smart to know everything, I only have assumptions. Well… An assumption.”
“Which is what exactly?” Leliana asked with a raised red brow.
“I’m assuming she wants to do it while she still has some courage mustered up. I personally don’t blame her to do it sooner rather than later.” Sirena said knowing she would make the same decision as well if she were in Evelyn’s shoes.
“I will lead the army and Templars to the place that was the conclave.” Cullen added before making his way to the door.
“You should get going as well, Sirena.” The spymaster said to the American girl. With a nod, the foreigner followed the Commander out to meet up with the Herald, her companions, and the Inquisition army.
With his fast pace, Sirena had a hard time keeping up with him. Her strides were a lot smaller than his which made it more difficult to keep up. She followed him through Haven until they made it out of the gates. The American noticed that Evelyn did indeed get her companions as well as gathered the soldiers. The templars were waiting for their orders from the Commander in order to help their Herald of Andraste.
“We will follow the Herald of Andraste!”
“Yes, Sir!” Men and women responded in unison to his command. Cullen gave a nod to the Herald that told her they were ready to march on. The outlander hurriedly mounted on her bay quarter horse that she named Apache, after a Native American tribe who were known for their violence on the battle field.
Everyone who was waiting by the make shift stables were then making their way over to where the conclave once stood. There was a bit of small talk throughout the army, but they were hushed conversations due to the tenseness from the situation. It was to the point that it had become eerie. The American looked back behind her since she was riding next to Evelyn. Her eyes caught the gaze of the warm honey brown eyes which made her feel warm inside. She turned her gaze away from his then pulled on the reins to get her horse to stop moving since the Herald had also stopped moving. Sirena then dismounted off her horse, making her feet land on the snowy ground at the same time as Evelyn.
“Templars! You know what to do! Now go!” The Heralded commanded getting to her role. Evelyn couldn’t command the forces or anything for that matter and the Herald knew that so she turned towards the new comer in Thedas. “Stay next to the Commander.” The American nodded her head just before the Herald walked away to go talk to her companions. Sirena looked up at the sky knowing the green breach was going to be closed very soon and the sky would return to normal. When she heard someone clearing their throat behind her, her head slightly turned so she was able to look over her shoulder only to see Cullen.
“Hello Cullen.”
“Hello Sirena…” He said slowly testing her name on his lips. Cullen hesitantly placed his hands on her uppers arms and turned her to him gently. He looked down at his boots trying to think of how to word things in his head before speaking them out loud. “Please be careful out there… It will be dangerous.” After he told her to be careful, she looked up into his eyes and saw something that she had never seen in any of her previous boyfriend’s eyes. The look she saw was concern. At least that was what she thought. But she wasn’t certain.
“The Herald told me told me to remain next to you.” Sirena had informed him. She then saw the look in his eyes turn into that of relief. Was the relief from knowing she’d be safe next to him? Or was it for another reason that she didn’t know about?
“Good. How have you been holding up since…” Cullen trailed off as he removed his hands from her arms before one of his hands rubbed the back of his neck. “Since that night?” He asked lamely. The outlander appreciated his choice of words since it was obvious, he hadn’t told anyone.
“I’ve actually been quite well. I haven’t tried anything since… well you know…” He nodded his head as his jaw clenched while he thought about that night. His fingers had tingled from touching her hand when he dressed her wound. He looked over at the Herald to see her nod telling him she was ready. Cullen glanced down at Sirena before speaking to his troops.
“Soldiers, we will stand along here where we have the most ground for what we need to do.” Again, Sirena heard a chorus of ‘yes, sir!’ fill the air around her. She watched as the templars made their way to where they needed to stand before the Commander gave a nod of his head. He then turned to face the ruined conclave. Her glanced up at him and noticed that he took a step forward which told it her it was time to move. The American eyes peered up at the sky and saw that it was still green obviously. The outlander walked beside Cullen to a spot that over looked the ruined conclave better than their previous spot. Sirena watched as the Herald made her way where the large rift was located. She kept her eyes on the Herald as Evelyn looked at her hands as it responded to the green breach. The blonde young woman noticed that the rift had brightened up and knew immediately that something was about to happen.
“Focus past the Herald! Let her will draw from you!” The American observed as the blurry figure of the Herald walked into the green fog. At least, that was what it looked like since she was a bit of distance away from the action. Her eyes looked at the templars and watched them as they knelt while holding their steel swords, plunging the tip into the ground. She glanced over at the Herald again as she tensed up. Sirena then heard a crack and a sound she couldn’t describe before she heard a sound of explosion in the air.
From the blast of white light, everyone had fallen onto their backs. The American was surprised that even happened in the first place. She propped herself up onto her elbows so she could sit up. That was when she noticed a leather gloved hand was held out to her. Her hand slowly slipped into his then he gripped her hand firmly yet gently to pull her up onto her feet. Once she was back up on her two feet, she looked down to see what happened when she realized there was no green glow. The breach had finally been sealed! The sky was back to normal! Her brows then scrunched up in confusion. ‘Wasn’t there supposed to be a battle against demons?’ She thought as her eyes blinked a couple of times. There were cheers all around as she watched three figures make their way through the throng. Sirena felt her feet move quickly towards the Herald just as the templars and the Commander’s army started to move. She even heard his voice ring out to his soldiers, though, she didn’t hear what he said since she was too dazed to think. All that she could hear was excited and happy cheers.
The trek was a lot shorter when going back to Haven from what she had noticed. It was like that everywhere, even when driving a car. As they got closer to the little village known as Haven, she was able to hear music and people cheering, especially when they caught sight of the Herald of Andraste. Sirena watched as Evelyn cringed from the people touching her and calling her “Your Worship”. The young American woman grabbed her “cousin’s” arm and gave it a comforting squeeze before she went off in her own direction. Haven was loud with celebration. People danced around as they laughed, enjoying their time. Sadly, Sirena could not shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen. While lost in her thoughts, she stood in front of the Chantry and leaned against the wall with her arms resting on it as well. She was looking over the festivities that the common people were having when she felt someone stand next to her. Her eyes glanced over at the person beside her only to see Cullen yet again.
“Mind if I join you?” He asked taking a glimpse at her as he also leaned against the wall.
“Go ahead” Sirena responded while her gaze turned back to watching the people of Haven having a party.
“How come you’re not out there celebrating with the others?” Cullen asked her with curiosity, taking the time he had to spend with her. He watched her shrug her shoulders before taking a deep breath, setting her gaze on his.
“I can’t. I have a feeling like something bad is going to happen.” The American confided to the man who was standing next to her. She turned herself so she was fully facing him, her left arm remaining on top of the waist high wall. “Why aren’t you out there socializing?” Sirena asked in return wondering what his reasoning was.
“It’s not something I enjoy. There is much to do still.” Her head bobbed up and down in a nod, agreeing to what he had said. Cullen was right, he just didn’t know how correct he was. She could feel herself getting warm as she continued to stand with him by the wall. Her feelings for him grew stronger, more so than before due to all the time they had spent together. The American opened her mouth to confess her emotions when hell had broken loose.
A man in armor who she assumed was one of the Commander’s soldiers ran up to Cullen, panting slightly. She was able to tell that he had run as quickly as he could to tell his commanding officer something important. Though, Sirena may not like it, she knew what she had to say was going to have to wait for another time.
“Commander, sir! There is an army with no banner approaching!” Cullen looked confused for a moment since no banner was unheard of.
“Did you say an army with no banner?” He asked making sure he had heard correctly.
“Yes, sir!”
“Sound the alarm!” Cullen commanded as he became the Commander again. Sirena ran off into the chaos that was the stampede of people. She looked around for the bald brooding elf. After she had spotted him, she ran over towards him with a plan in her head.
“Solas!” The American called out to him watching as he turned his head over in her direction. The American got closer to him as the alarm sound of a blow horn went off. “I need you to do something on my left hand. I need you to make a replica green glow mark that Evelyn has.” She explained while holding her hand out to him.
“I don’t think I will be able to do that but I will try. You obviously know more than you let on.” Solas said as he pulled his staff off from his back. “Do you want this to be permanent? Or no?” It was a question that needed to be asked so he wouldn’t screw up her hand.
“I need it to last at least six or seven hours at most.” Sirena replied knowing she would need the glow later. She watched the elf nod his head before calling on the fade to give her the mark that replicated the Herald’s. In amazement, she watched as her hand went from normal to emanating the green glow. “You actually did it!”
“That should last about seven hours like you asked. Whatever it is you’re planning… Be careful.” The elf said dismissing her. Sirena nodded her head and ran off again. As fast as she could go, she ran to the shack that she was sharing with Evelyn. The American slammed her shoulder against the door in her hurry to get inside. She rushed over to Evelyn’s drawers where the clothes were held. In a rush, she opened the drawer with the gloves and pulled out a black pair to cover the fake mark. Once the gloves were on, the outlander went back out towards the doors to Haven where the advisors stood around with the Herald’s companions. As she joined the group, she watched Cassandra walk up to the Commander.
“Cullen?”
“One watch guard reported. It’s a massive force, the bulk over the mountain.” Cullen said pointing his index finger at the mountain before lowering his arms back down.
“Under what banner?” Josephine asked as she looked over in the direction the Commander pointed.
“None.” Both Cullen and Sirena voiced at the same time. Everyone looked between the two as Cullen looked at the American with a smirk. She mouthed out “sorry” to him as she looked down at the ground.
“None?” Josephine asked with disbelief. The young blonde glanced up and walked over towards the doors next to Evelyn. She noticed an orange and reddish glow under the doors as well as a pound making the gate move slightly when a voice called out.
“If someone could open this, I’d appreciate it!” The American knew immediately that it was the sarcastic Dorian on the other side. Sirena rushed to the door and pushed it open only to see men fallen dead on the ground and the Tevinter kneeling down. She ran out of Haven’s village just as Cullen caught up with her rather quickly. They both stood in front of the same man.
“Ah! I’m here to warn you. Fashionably late, I’m afraid.” Dorian said as he got up while Cullen sheathed his sword. She hadn’t even noticed that he pulled it out of the scabbard through all the excitement. As he got up, he fell over a bit just as Cullen caught him and helped steadied him. “Mite exhausted. Don’t mind me.” The proud Tevinter shook the Commander’s help off. “My name is Dorian Pavus, and I bring grave news from Redcliffe- an army of rebel mages, right behind me.” While the man talked, Sirena noticed Cullen had moved to stand beside her. She also saw him glaring at the mage. “They are under the command of the Venatori, in service to something called the “Elder One”. The woman is Calpernia. She commands the Venatori. For that… The Elder One.” Dorian then pointed in the direction of where the two were standing and watching their army march. They saw the dwarf mage woman standing next to an ugly red lyrium darkspawn man thing. Sirena knew what to expect, but she still felt a lot of fear. It was a lot different in person than it was playing a video game. “They were already marching on Haven. I risked my life to get here fast!” Evelyn who had apparently heard everything ran up to him.
“Cullen! Give me a plan! Anything!” It was clear the older woman was panicking. While the woman was in near hysteria, Sirena walked over towards the mage to speak quietly to Dorian as Cullen talked to Evelyn.
“I have a plan, but it’s not a very good one; but it will do. When I nod to you, grab Varric and Blackwall then follow me as quickly and quietly as possible.” The American informed the mage quietly so the other two couldn’t hear.
“Who are they?”
“Varric is the dwarf and Blackwall is the Greywarden.” At least she knew she’d get along well with Dorian.
“Alright then.” After the small conversation ended with the mage, the outlander watched the Commander pull out his sword and walked over to his group of soldiers who were waiting for his command. He was good at his job, not to mention he made it look hot in her opinion.
“Soldiers! Gather the villagers! Fortify and watch for a advance forces! Inquisition! With the Herald! For your lives! For all of us!” Cullen said as Commander with determination which gave Sirena a shiver down her spine.
After the big – well sort of big speech from the Commander, Evelyn ran off towards the trebuchets to keep them clear of the mages that went bad. Sirena also ran to a different trebuchet to distract the mages so the Commander’s men could up the big wooden weapon. There wasn’t a whole lot of action like there was at Therinfal Redoubt, but it was enough to keep the two women busy. Once the trebuchets were retaken and loaded by the Inquisition, since there were only two to begin with, someone made one go off causing a small avalanche to cover the enemies. The American stopped to watch as a grin appeared on her face. She could hear cheering behind her from the soldiers who had stayed out to help them.
Out of nowhere, a screech could be heard then fire destroyed the trebuchet. When Sirena looked up, a look of awe and surprise as well as fear appeared on her face. It was a black dragon. She actually saw an actual dragon which didn’t exist in her world. The American then heard the Herald yell “everyone to the gates!”. Sirena didn’t hesitate to run, making her way towards the gates. It was far too dangerous now that there was a dragon flying about. When she made it to the gates, she saw Cullen ordering them to get inside quickly like almost in a frenzy. As soon as he helped close the gate he turned around and started walking away as he said something to the Herald.
“We need everyone back to the Chantry! It’s the only building that might hold against… That beast!” He then turned around and just looked at Evelyn. Almost like he didn’t want to look at the younger blonde woman since it seemed he thought he was going to die that night. “At this point… Just make them work for it.” Cullen then continued to walk away towards the chantry. The American watched as Trevelyan ran towards some mages to fight. Instead of joining, she ran over to a burning building where yelling could be heard. Sirena jumped on the crates and dropped down through a hole in the roof. Her eyes scanned the smoky room to find the person who was trapped inside. Once she found them, she ran over towards the person in a few steps before grabbing their arm. She then bent the person down so their head was under the cloud of smoke while her eyes burned causing tears to fall down her cheeks as they made their way towards the door. The young woman then kicked down the door and pushed the person out to safety. As Sirena stepped out herself, the house collapsed making it where she barely made it out.
“Go to the Chantry!” She yelled to the person she had saved from burning alive.
“Maker bless you!” The elven woman replied before running off in the direction she told her to go in. Sirena then ran off towards the area where Solas stayed. She saw two people on the ground and helped them up while making sure they weren’t too badly hurt to walk on their own. The American pointed to the large building to point in the direction they needed to go. When it seemed like she got everyone out who were alive, the outander ran to the Chantry at the same time as the Herald. The door opened to reveal Dorian helping the Chancellor who was waving to the people to get inside the Chantry.
“Move! Keep going! The chantry is your shelter!” As soon as everyone was inside, Roderick collapsed in Dorian’s arms like his adrenaline had rushed out of him. As Sirena dozed off a bit and came back to her senses, she realized she had missed part of the conversation that was happening.
“There has been no communication, no demands. Only advance after advance.”
“There was no bargaining with the mages either. This Elder One takes what it wants.” Dorian said kneeling beside Chancellor Roderick. “From what I gathered in Redcliffe it marched all this way to take your Herald.”
“If it will save these people, he can have me.” Evelyn said readily to sacrifice her life for the innocent lives.
“An assassin might take you up on that.” Dorian wittily remarked to lighten up the very gloomy mood. “But this force doesn’t seem concerned about the specifics. And such a promising start with the land slide.” He let out a little chuckle before continuing with what he was saying. “If only trebuchets remained an option.”
“They are, if we turn the last of them to the mountains above us.” Cullen added.
“We’re over run. To hit the enemy, we’d bury Haven.”
“This is not survivable now. The only choice left is how spitefully we end this.” Sirena noticed then that the Commander was avoiding eye contact as she looked up at him.
“Well, that’s not acceptable. I didn’t race here only to drop rocks on my head.” Dorian said walking up to the group.
“Should we submit? Let him kill us?” Cullen was now glaring at the mage. And the Tevinter mage glared back.
“Dying is typically last resort, not first! For a Templar, you think like a blood mage!”
“There is a path!” Roderick suddenly said breaking the tension and also in attempt to stop the argument. “You wouldn’t know it was there unless you made the summer pilgrimage, as I have. The people can escape.” The poor man who always seemed so full of malice looked like he was dying. “She must have shown me. Andraste must have shown so I could… tell you.”
“What are you on about Roderick?” Evelyn asked the dying man.
“It was whim that I walked the path. I did not meant to start, it was overgrown. Now, with so many in the conclave dead, to be the only one who remembers… I don’t know, Herald. If this simple memory can save us, this could be more than just mere accident. You could be more.”
“What about it Cullen? Will it work?” Evelyn asked him and not as the Herald but as a human being about ready to sacrifice themselves.
“Possibly, if he shows us the path.” He said in return not trusting the Chancelor. “But what of your escape?” Sirena then looked hard at the blonde man. Did he ask her that because he liked her? Or was he just concerned? Many thoughts ran through her head as she blinked her eyes a couple of times to keep her tears back from falling.
“Perhaps you can surprise the Elder One.” Dorian said as he looked at the older woman. The American then watched Cullen walk in front of the survivors.
“Inquisition! Follow Chancellor Roderick through the chantry! Move!” With the people starting to walk again, Sirena took it as her que to go. She looked over at Dorian and gave him a nod just when Cole popped up to take the Chancellor. The Tevinter mage rounded up the companions that she had requested while hearing the next bit of conversation. When the Commander said “let that thing hear you” she ran out with Dorian while hearing both Cullen and Evelyn call out to her.
Once outside, red templars and mages came out to fight. Sirena went after the spellbinder killing him in four critical blows. The others were fighting melee fighters. She looked around and found another spellbinder and ran at him. When he disappeared, she let out a little growl of frustration then muttered “pansy” under her breath before spotting him again. Her feet immediately went into a run and slashed at him six times before he finally died. After the enemies were dead on the ground, she led the group towards the last standing trebuchet. She didn’t want to waste time fighting when her mark that was similar to Evelyn’s was only temporary.
When she finally made it to the trebuchet, Sirena immediately took the wheel and started cranking it. As she aimed the trebuchet towards the mountain, battle had ensued around her which she let her companions dealt with. Her focus had to be on the trebuchet. When the trebuchet was facing the mountain, the American looked at the sky to see the dragon she saw earlier in the evening, flying above them.
“Go!” Sirena said as she backed away from their last weapon. “Now!” Her companions finally ran away to safety while she remained behind. The dragon blew out flames from its mouth which she had to jump out of the way. She then rolled rather hard and landed on her back. “Ow!” The American groaned as she laid on the snow numbing the pain. The outlander sat up while rubbing her head before looking around. While looking at the flames, she saw the creature stalking towards her like she was his prey. She guessed in a way she was. He did want the Herald after all. Sirena’s eyes grew wide from fear and started to back away from him when the dragon ran up blocking her path.
“Enough!” The creature said shooting red stuff out of his hands. “Pretender, you toy with forces beyond your understanding. No more!” With her heart thumping in her chest from fear, Sirena raised a brow at him.
“I don’t fear you creature!”
“Words mortals often hurl at the darkness. Once they were mine. They are always lies.” The American shrugged her shoulders silently. It wasn’t like he didn’t have a point for even her Gryffindor side was starting to waver a bit the more he talked. “Know me. Know what you have pretended to be. Exalt the Elder One! The will that is Corypheus! You will kneel.” Her eyes rolled as he pointed at her.
“I didn’t yield to my family when they wanted me to; I sure as hell will not yield to you.” She said defiantly. It made her proud of herself to defy a wannabe scary god.
“You will resist. You will always resist. It matters not.” Sirena knew she was going to have to do some acting even though she was quite terrible at it just from the words he had said. “I am here for the Anchor. The process of removing it begins now.” He then pulled the orb out and made it glow a green color. When he threw his hand out to shoot a red glow at her hand, the fake mark on hers sparked, but she didn’t feel anything. “It is your fault “Herald”. You interrupted a ritual years in the planning. And instead of dying, you stole its purpose.” He then added more red into her hand. What was he shooting at her? She was so glad the mark was fake at that point. “I do not know how you survived, but what marks you as ‘touched’, what you flail at rifts, I crafted to assault the very heavens.” When she saw his hand flex, it was then she knew her acting had to begin. Her unmarked hand grabbed her wrist to the glowing limb and she let out a gasp of pain as she fell to her knees. “And you used the Anchor to undo my work! The gall!” As she was kneeling on the ground a thought had formed in her head, “someone is a little salty. He also loves to hear himself talk, like bloody hell.”
“What is this thing meant to do?” It was a good way to get answers to give to Evelyn, if she doesn’t die before hand. He does think she’s the Herald after all which show his intelligence; and it seemed he’s not that smart if he didn’t know he got duped.
“It’s meant to bring certainty where there is none. For you, the certainty that I would always come for it.” Corypheus walked over to her briskly and grabbed her wrist tightly before lifting her up to the point her feet weren’t touching the ground. This was like a Deja vu moment for her since she dreamt about it before. “I once breached the fade in the name of another, to serve the Old Gods of the Empire in person. I found only chaos and corruption. Dead whispers. For a thousand years I was confused. No more. I have gathered the will to return under no name but my own. To champion withered Tevinter and correct the blighted world.” At that point, her arm was really starting to hurt from the way he was holding her up. “Beg that I succeed. For I have seen the throne of Gods, and it was empty!” He finally threw her into the trebuchet and her head hit the metal part which caused her to hear a crack while letting out a squeak as her vision became blurry. She pressed her hand against the back of her head to feel something warm and wet. Her hand shakily moved to the front of her to see blood on her fingers. “The anchor is permanent. You have spoiled it with your stumbling.” Her gaze looked down beside her and saw a sword which she immediately grabbed before slowly standing up leaning against the trebuchet. “So be it. I will begin again; find another way to give this world the nation and God it requires.” Sirena looked up at the mountains to finally see the signal she was waiting for. “And you! I will suffer even an unknowing rival. You must die.”
“You can eat shit, arrogant dumbass.” The American quickly moved to the lever for the trebuchet and kicked at it causing it to throw a boulder into another mountain. With Corypheus distracted, she ran while his back was turned to her even while she felt dizzy. She continued to run till she tripped and fell into a hole in the ground. As she fell, her side hit an object before finally hitting the ground. When she sat up, she let out a sound of pain and clutched at her side.
Sirena got up on her feet and looked around at her surroundings. All it looked like was a cave to her. Was this where the Chancellor led everyone? When she looked ahead of her, she saw light at the end of the tunnel as well as what she assumed were the shade creatures, though, those were in front of her. She noticed some rocks that she could hide behind without getting noticed by them. The American quickly took the route that she planned as fast as she could and made her way out to the best of her ability.
As soon as she stepped out of the cave, wind and snow hit her in the face. It was like a blizzard had appeared out of nowhere. She wrapped her arms around herself to defend against the cold. Sirena saw light in the distance and immediately made her way over towards it. When she got to it, she saw a broken wagon and continued on going right instead of straight. It seemed someone made a make shift trail for her. While she continued to walk, her pace slowed down a lot from all the pain she was feeling. She couldn’t see all that well due to all the snow that was blowing around her. Sirena finally got some break from the snow when rocks blocked the blizzard. Closer to another rock, sat what looked to be a fire. With hope for getting warm, she quickly made her way towards it only to see there was no fire at all. Her body was shaking badly as she shivered from the cold. The American then continued her trek when she heard a voice say “look! It’s her!” Her knees gave out and she fell from the exhaustion and cold. Sirena then felt something warm got wrapped around her before getting picked up. She snuggled up against the warmth that was holding her.
After what felt like hours, the American was surrounded by heat. She moved her head slowly to see she was in a red tent. Sirena felt more movement when she was lowered down onto something firm yet soft. That was when she found herself lying down on a cot. She had no idea where she was. Her eyes closed shut tiredly then snapped open again. The outlander knew it was a bad idea to sleep in case she had a concussion. If she had fallen asleep, she might never wake up again. The American noticed the Herald, Leliana, and some woman she didn’t know, as well as Cullen getting shooed out by Josephine before she joined the other women around her. The woman she didn’t know undid her corset and lifted her shirt up. Feeling pressure every now and again in different areas made her assume that the unknown woman was a nurse or a doctor of some sorts.
“Do you feel pain anywhere miss?”
“Not really, the cold numbed the pain I was feeling. The back of my head and my side hurt really badly before I became numb.” The nurse touched the back of her head then removed her fingers to see that the girl was still bleeding.
“This will need to be cleaned and stitched up.” Sirena was so out of it that she didn’t know what the woman was doing until she was turned then felt a little pain in the back of her head but the cold numbed her to the point she barely felt anything. There was only some tugging in the back of her head as the woman sewed up the wound. “Alright, it looks done. I will need help taking her top off.” Leliana stepped forward and held the American up as the nurse took her shirt off. Instead of seeing an unwrapped chest, everyone saw her bra instead.
“Oh! Now that is cute!” The spymaster exclaimed looking at the black and white brazier Sirena was wearing. Shaking her head to remain focused, she backed away from the young woman so the nurse had room to do what she needed to.
“Her ribs will need to be bandaged then they can heal on their own. I will need help holding her up which means two people. One for keeping her up and the other to hold her arms up so they are out of the way… This girl is lucky to even be alive…” Leliana moved by Sirena’s head with Evelyn. One girl sat her up while the other held her arms to keep them out of the doctor’s way.
“I just noticed something green on her left hand like the Herald’s.” Josephine pointed out to the other women. “Though, this one looks like it is faded and flickering.” Both Evelyn and Leliana looked at her hand wondering why it would be there in the first place.
“We all need to talk to Solas about this.” Leliana said before the doctor started wrapping the bandage around Sirena which made her whimper loudly in pain. A hurried voice that belonged to Josephine could be heard over the soft sobs.
“Commander, you can’t come in yet! She’s not decent enough to be seen by men!” It was too bad for the American for the cold could not numb the pain she was feeling each time she was jostled a bit from getting wrapped up.
“He can stay, she’s covered for the most part; but keep your back turned Commander.” Cullen turned his back just as he was instructed so he was only able to hear what was going on.
“It’s official… God or whoever is the higher power hates me.” Sirena moaned out in pain. “This hurts so bad…”
“It’s not meant to be pleasant.” Evelyn said bluntly. “Can you do this more quickly doctor?” She wanted the pain gone sooner rather than later for the girl who had taken her place. It should have been her lying on the cot, not the foreigner.
“I’m all done.” The doctor said after she had finished wrapping around her rib cage. “She still needs to get warmed otherwise she may still die from hypothermia.” As if on que, people walked in carrying blankets.
“Body heat is also the quickest way to warm someone who is close to death because of the freezing cold.” Cullen said now facing the group of women. All but Leliana was smirking and the doctor looked at him with shock.
“Yes, that does sound like a great idea. I can find a volunteer-“
“No.” Cullen interrupted the doctor who then looked at him in surprise.
“Then who do you propose could do it?”
“I can.” He offered keeping his facial expressions as neutral as possible. Josephine’s jaw dropped as she looked at the Commander.
“Alright then Commander.” The doctor turned back around and covered the now sleeping Sirena with blankets before leaving the tent.
“That isn’t appropriate!” Josephine exclaimed in a shock manner since she didn’t think the doctor would agree to the arrangement.
“Josie, it’s a good idea. This will make sure she didn’t get here in vain. It needs to be done to save her life.” Leliana explained as she grabbed the Olive woman’s arm and pulled her out of the tent with her just as Evelyn approached the Commander.
“I will talk to Solas about the mark on her hand that looks similar to mine.” Cullen looked at her with confusion since he wasn’t in the tent during the discussion about the fading mark. Evelyn gave him a nod of her head that told him to go take a look for himself. Without a pause, he walked over beside Sirena who was sleeping in his cot and carefully turned her left hand to reveal the much-faded fake mark.
“I see… This definitely needs some explaining.”
“That is does. Take care of her Commander.” Trevelyan said finally leaving the tent to go to talk to Solas.” When Cullen’s tent flap closed, he immediately took off his armor. He didn’t want to waste precious time by placing the armor on the stand, instead, he laid them on them down on the floor before taking his tunic off, leaving him bare chested. The Commander lifted up the covers and crawled in next to the woman. Very carefully, he moved her onto her good side and wrapped his arms around her while pressing his chest against her back to give her his body heat. He propped himself up a bit to look at her as she slept, seeing the minor details like the arch in her brows and how thick her lashes were. Cullen then noticed how pink her lips were. Blushing, he laid back down, this time on his back. He heard a painful groan as he saw Sirena roll over towards him as her head rested on his chest and one of her legs entangling with his own which caused him to turn more red. Though, surprisingly, he felt relaxed with her in his arms, so relaxed that his eyes grew heavy and closed while his breathing evened out with his.
