Alright, another chapter up, this one even delivered in a timely fashion. Woot. Feedback of all kinds is appreciated, and, as always, will be discussed and responded to on the forums at: http://www2.adult-fanfiction.org/forum/index.php/topic/36931-metroid-the-bergman-affair-feedback-comments-and-workshopping/page-4 All you have to do is copy/pasta that link and conversation it will be had. Usually takes me a day or two to respond, but this coming week is going to be atrocious so your mileage may vary. A quick word of warning: this is about to go to some pretty dark places (because this story has been about puppies and rainbows so far). There. Um. Enjoy, and more next week hopefully.
Planet Daibon, GFDate 4034:0512 “This way, this way, come along,” Vogl said, heroically standing in the shadows cast by the fires that covered this part of Daibon. The huddled senators of a dozen species followed after him, protected by the best soldiers the Federation possessed – or at least those that had never counted as fit enough to see real action. Their eyes were wide, their posture uncertain, all of them sheep following wherever Vogl saw fit to direct them. He wondered if there panic was the reason none of them had noticed the twin Kaayes fruits that hovered around him, or if the Kaayes themselves were somehow keeping themselves hidden. It didn't matter; the end result was the same. The Kaayes kept those around him in the exact manner that he preferred people to be, compliant and obedient, and every glance he took around himself only confirmed that he had done the -right- thing by siding with the Bergman human. He stood front and center, seeming to be in danger but confident that he was safe, sending the most powerful political figures in the galaxy shuffling this way or that. They were all looking to him for direction, for safety, and he could imagine no finer moment than this. “Sir,” a soldier said, addressing him, stepping forward with a smart salute. “We need to get you to a more protected location.” “Soon,” Vogl answered, his voice soothing, the two Kaayes floating around him giving certain of his words an unnoticed psychic emphasis. “We need to protect my fellow senators first. Has anyone seen or heard anything from the Chairman?” “No, sir.” Vogl took a moment, pretending to wipe a tear from his eye before turning his attention back to the assembled masses. “We have to assume he's dead, at least right now,” Vogl said. “There are safehouses located in sections rs-12, sw-79, and jc-84. We should split up to maximize our chances of avoiding whatever this attack is. Who would like to take charge of each grouping...?” Senator Lain ended up in charge of the second largest group after Vogl's, taking those that chose to go with him to sw-79. Vogl took rs-12, amusing himself with the knowledge that Lain's path would take him into conflict with Sylux. Vogl had never cared much for Lain, and the Senators he did like that had gone to sw-79 were all ones that could be replaced at a later date. Taking care to make sure no one was paying him any mind, Vogl allowed a brief smile to play across his face. Keaton and Lain had always been his biggest detractors back when he'd been Chairman, and he saw no reason not to get rid of them now that the opportunity had presented itself. “Do we have any idea what's attacking us?” a soldier asked, looking panicked, pointing his gun towards the fires as if he expected to be attacked at any moment. Vogl lay a comforting hand on the boy's shoulder. “We're getting reports of a purple warrior, a description which lines up with the armor the Vhozon favor,” Vogl said, looking around the assembled masses. “Given the damage done, it stands to reason that we're under attack from one of their finest warriors, perhaps Noxus himself.” “Excellent hypothesis,” a voice said. Behind them, a panel of wall slid aside, revealing Chairman Keaton. The Sazin straightened his jacket, glancing around. “It is, however, wrong.” He stepped forward, grabbing the rifle right from the hands of the boy that Vogl had been talking to, and shot the Kaayes that had been following Vogl's group. The senators and soldiers looked around, one of them kicking at the fruit. “Is this a Kaayes melon?” one of them asked. All seemed surprised at the appearance of the fruit, all their attention now on the rinds that littered the ground at their feet. While they were distracted Keaton placed himself in the middle of their gathering, sweeping his imperious gaze over them all. “We're being attacked by the Hunter, Sylux,” Keaton announced, and Vogl could have sworn that the Sazin's eyes narrowed as they passed over Vogl. “He's following me. In fact, those explosions you hear behind me are him. He should be here soon.” “S-Sylux?!?” Vogl swore that, if he survived this, he was going to make certain that the coffee every soldier on Daibon drank was switched to decaf. “He'll kill us all!” “That is a possibility, yes,” Keaton said, nodding. “I'm out of secret passages, so this is where we make our last stand. At least the other two thirds of the senate will be safe, and I've always said that Lain would make an excellent Chairman.” Vogl glanced around, nervous, as the Chairman sat down on a piece of rubble and took careful aim. Planet YS7-23, GFDate 4034:0512 The Desgeega kept one foot on Samus, holding his prey in place as he unleashed havoc with his other limb, pivoting in place and unleashing every last weapon his benefactor had seen fit to give him. Missiles tore the landscape to shreds, ice beams freezing debris in midair, lasers crashing into static debris. Brannigan let loose a warcry, confident of his ability as his enemy suffered below him. Ridley did not seem to be fazed by any of it, flying around in lazy patterns. He seemed to be considering something, eyes glowing like baleful suns. “Down,” he hissed to Samus, smiling to himself as she struggled to disobey, ending up in the position he wanted her to be in. The Kaayes at his side only reinforced his commands, making them impossible for her to resist. Though, there was that one moment... When Ridley had first appeared, Brannigan had seen the look in Samus' eyes, the way her muscles tensed. Everything he had done to her had been forgotten in that moment, he saw, and the hate with which she looked upon the dragon had shaken even him. Still, she was his to control, his to play with, the gift of his benefactor. “You can't have her!” Brannigan screamed. “She's mine!” The Dragon laughed, his tail lashing forward with a speed that tore light, with a finality that ended worlds. Brannigan yelped as the blade on that tail cut into the flesh of his good leg. A sense of nausea swam through him, a feverish heat suffusing his body. He stumbled back, that one grazing cut an agony that he would not have thought possible. He staggered back, caught himself on his mechanical leg, launching a couple of missiles at the Dragon. Ridley ducked underneath them, bullrushing the Desgeega and tossing him aside as Samus Aran pushed herself up to the standing position, her neck tilted so that she and Ridley could stare at one another. The dragon smiled. “Don't go too far. Hunter,” the dragon crooned. “I'll be right. back. and we'll continue our discussion. I have so. many things. to show you.” As Brannigan fought to stand the dragon pounced, talons closing around his limbs, stabbing flesh and steel. There was care in the piercing, Brannigan felt, screaming in pain as his tendons were severed in one limb and the other. He blacked out, feeling the tail blade slither over his skin, blackening his flesh, sending sickness pouring through him. He was in the air, then, flying over mountains, carried by the dragon. Brannigan did not know how long they flew before the dragon dropped him down a valley, swooping after him and yanking one limb and then the other up, dislocating his remaining arm from the socket and pulling the mechanical one off entirely before letting him fall helplessly to the sand. Crying, Brannigan struggled to turn his face, a small torso and head, his limbs and soul broken. Still he fought, using his chin to pull himself forward, trying to turn his head and so escape the sand that filled his vision and the monster that shook the earth all around him. Gently, lovingly, a single talon spun around his shattered body so that he was looking into two terrible burning suns. Then, when despair had claimed him utterly, only then did Ridley began to peel away long slices of Brannigan's remaining arm, letting the bloody meat fall within sight of the broken Desgeega. "I am taking your flesh. off," Ridley crooned, neck snaking down. Brannigan could feel the dragon's breath brush the back of one ear. "But I will leave the nerveless. fleshless. bone. attached. As for the meat. well." An awful smile suffused the tone of the words, the blackest possible amusement. “Why?” cried Brannigan. “Why are you doing this to me?” The dragon leaned in close, whispering lullabies. And at the end, Brannigan knew. Moon RK18-94, GFDate 4034:0512 Mia got used to the chittering footsteps of the Kriken behind her. It took some doing, but after the third firefight she started ignoring it. The two insectoids proved to be more than adequate companions, letting her draw out their Vhozon attackers and then supporting her with cover fire while she went to work, butchering the aliens with a skill that she liked to think was second only to Samus Aran herself. Each Kriken had a Kaayes fruit hovering alongside it, sending her messages and receiving them in kind. With the aid of the Kaayes they were able to better coordinate their attacks, cutting the Vhozon to ribbons in quick encounters. They were leaving nothing but bloody chunks in their wake, but more and more it appeared as if the Vhozon were specifically hunting them. “Let's take shelter in here,” Mia said, looking back at her two companions. “We can use the doorway as a bottleneck and pick them in as they try to enter.” : Is Good Plan : Not That Room : Go In Another : “Why not this room?” Mia asked, curious. Her two companions clacked at one another, but before they could answer the sound of Vhozon psi-blasts echoed down the hallway. “There's no time! Follow me!” She turned, lashing out at the closed door with a kick, moving into the room before her Kriken hosts could stop her. Her eyes adjusted to the gloom within, her ears picking up ragged breathing and a slithering that sounded far too familiar. The scent of sweat and sex filled her, brushing against her skin with a power that made her knees weak and a full wetness settle south of her stomach. Staggering forward, uncertain, she looked and forced herself to make sense of what she was seeing. Four women were suspended in the room, none of them Kriken. They were held by crustacean shells that had formed around their ankles and wrists, swallowing the better part of their calves and forearms, leaving the rest of their bodies exposed. A bronze goo slithered along their appendages, circling around breasts and bums, pressing against thighs and lower and deeper. The woman were panting, writhing, their eyes glazed over, their lips parted, heads lolling. Behind the women were things that floated, fruit possessing slightly glowing eyes, suspended by nothing. She could feel something pushing off the fruit, pressing against her mind, and she shook and felt her lips part, heat crawling up from abdomen and spreading across her cheeks. She blinked, staring, forced herself to focus. Breathing heavy. Some of the slime pressing into the captives' lower folds slipped out, that slime containing small crimson spheres. Something within those spheres was moving. Those are eggs, Mia Xen thought, staring with wide eyed horror. Those are eggs and these women are being held like I was being held... She turned to her two captors as they entered the room behind her, pointing her rifle at them, a terrible anger filling her. : Put Down Gun : We Are -Friends- : You Will -Obey- : Mia blinked, shuddering, falling back, the gun becoming heavy, her fingers going slack. The two Kriken fell into the room. For a moment, she thought she saw a couple of floating melons following the Kriken as they stepped into the room, but when she blinked the fruit was gone. Kaayes? She shook, the ground rushing up to meet her. She was on her hands and knees, a long slow breath pushing its way out of her. Falling back onto her knees, she looked up at the Kriken, tried to focus on what was floating above them, all the while feeling something press against her mind. Those are Kaayes melons... why are... w-what's going on? Three Vhozon stepped into the room, faltering for a moment when they saw the helpless victims hanging behind Mia Xen. The Kriken turned on them with savage fury, scarlet projectiles burning their way through Vhozon armor, but one of the Vhozon managed to kill the two Kriken before they coul get him. Mia Xen stared at the alien, consumed by the sudden need to -kill- it, -avenging- those that had murdered her hosts. She stood up, snarling, her rifle feeling perfect in her hands as she took aim and pulled the trigger. The Vhozon fired at the same time she did, an area-effecting blast that held just the two of them. A couple of things, one on either side of her, burst. -Free- She felt the alien word in her mind, the peace-filled acceptance emanating from the Vhozon. It's eyes were on her as it fell back, sliding against the wall, the holes littering its armor fired too well. -This one is dying but it is a good death as the one called Mia Xen is now free of mind- “No,” whispered Mia, rushing to the wounded Vhozon. She felt it smiled as she took its hand, giving her a gentle squeeze. -All things die but death is merely transference from one state to another- the alien thought at her. -This one will soon move from one form to the next and yet the one called Mia Xen is free- “Yes, thanks to you.” -This one asks only that you share the gift that I have given you with those others and th- Images flashed in Mia Xen's mind as the alien died. Some of the information presented made no sense to her, the memories designed for senses she did not possess, but she understood enough. The Kaayes plants were emovorous, using a hypnotic call to bring small animals to their roots and lull them into a dream of mating, feasting on the resulting passion. The melons they produced were then taken by etheric waves of the dead to another location, where they would take root and begin the cycle anew. In their natural state, they did this maybe once a decade, flowering and dying halfway through the next, each plant producing only a handful of melons in its lifetime. But there was another trick to the Kaayes, something that someone Mia Xen could not see but that the Vhozon had sensed. This person had figured out that the Kaayes could be used to amplify and send psionic signals over long distances, as the Kaayes were always connected via a system of psychic roots that took no notice of spatial distance. Admiral Higgs needs to know this, Mia Xen thought, standing, turning to look at the women. It took her only a moment to shoot the remaining Kaayes with her pistol, another to free the women with twelve well placed bullets from her pistol. The women's clothing had been left in a corner of the room and she helped them dress. It frightened her, to see how sensitive their skin was, how they smiled at every brush of fabric and how lost they were in erotic half-realities. It frightened her because she knew that she had suffered that exact same fate. She led the women down one corridor, then another, keeping a careful eye out for Kriken and Kaayes. She wasn't sure where she was leading them, but she did feel certain of her direction. Dismissing the worries that brought her, she pressed on. It couldn't have been more than an a half hour before she reached a hangar, a Vhozon burned to rubble there. Grimacing, she pushed the women forward – all of them were compliant, but none of them seemed to understand what was happening and all of them wanted to go back. -Wait- The thought came to them all, Mia and her flock all jolting in surprise as a lone Vhozon climbed out of the wreckage. -You are ones who were sent to this place by one who has moved from this form to the next but that one did not complete the process that this one now completes- An orange burst of light sprung forth from the lone alien, covering all of them, and Mia Xen felt a clarity that would haunt her for the rest of her life. She heard the women behind them gasp, heard their reactions, did her best to ignore them as she approached the lone alien. “You have to take them out of here,” she said. “Can you fly any of the Kriken ships?” -This one has no need of such a skill- the Vhozon replied. -Damage to this one's ship is illusion. Can take you all of you to a place that is not this place- “You can't take all of us” Mia said, shaking her head. “I reviewed this ship's weapon systems before they... before they took me. They have a cannon that will shoot you out of the void. You probably saw it on the way in.” -A golden blast- the alien confirmed. -It transferred more than half of those ones that came with this one to a different state- “I know how to disable it,” Mia Xen said. “Give me ten standard minutes, okay? You understand? Good. Help me get these people on your ship and get ready to get them to safety.” -This one senses that there is something else that the one called Mia Xen wishes to tell this one- “Yes.” Mia closed her eyes, bowing her head and sighed deeply. “When you get a system or more away from this ship, place a call on frequency CSN-7 using code AC-SC-CC. That will get you Admiral Higgs of the Galactic Federation. Tell him everything that happened here... and tell him Mia Xen gave you her codes to do it.”While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
