Home was the next stop on Lianne’s list for a few coins that she received each year to purchase items from the visiting merchants. To her astonishment the amount was triple what she had received every year until then. Her father just smiled benignly and told her to go see her mother because a message had arrived for her from her new master.
Even though father didn’t know the whole truth for certain he obviously suspected! Lianne was shocked that her Papa didn’t get mad. Again with her having escaped Thomas the fate worse than horrid death she supposed. Oh well whatever would be would be she guessed and off she went to find her mother. Mother was outside selling cider to thirsty festival celebrants, for a cheap rate compared to what they would pay at the green leaf inn down the way.
The business level indicated the success of mother’s cider enterprise and Lianne received no few admiring looks for her outfit and the figure it showed off from the strangers in town as they walked by. All of them seemed to get a small sample of her lord’s threat from her medallion because they wistfully looked elsewhere for a pretty girl to ogle. "Here Daughter a new present from your patron." Leah said and handed Lianne a large coin pouch full of silver!
Gleefully Lianne shopped the stalls in the Market Square buying festival gifts for all her kin and a few small trifles for herself. Then she saw the weapons master’s stall and decided that mother would not object to her buying a small blade to defend herself against fresh acting fledges. She slid up behind old Darien the werebeast hunter, and waited patiently till he was finished. Then she cleared her throat to get the merchant’s attention and the haggling began.
She came away with several nice throwing knives and one good dagger besides. Also with the money her father had given her she bought a present for her new lord. It was an old helmet that reminded her of the Serafin knights she had heard the werebeast hunter tell tales of by the inn’s fire at night when she was small. She came near to it when she was almost finished with her selecting from the weapon’s master’s wares. It just practically cried out to her that it must belong to her lord. So even though it left her with only half her silver and one of the coins her father gave her remaining she bought it from the old blacksmith and had him put it in a hinge lidded box so she could give it to her Lord. Having had enough money of her own to buy something for her lord made her gleeful. It would be somewhat crass had she used the monies he gave her to buy him a festival gift after all! As she went on to the cloth merchant she still failed to notice her ill intentioned shadows.
Meanwhile Raziel was getting ready to attend the festival that the humans held each year to celebrate the harvest. He found himself unable to resist the lure of Lianne’s stunning beauty any longer. The Sun had only just set when he exited a secret tunnel that led from the heart of his territory to a small rock outcropping near the edge of the woods that was closest to her village. Once he was so close he could pick up her thoughts in brief flashes and flickers.
She was ever so happy over the upcoming festival celebrations, and she had been expecting him to be on the way the moment the sun had set! It was getting very disturbing that so many he would have once considered utterly without any merit were able to predict his actions, with such stunning accuracy, and before even he knew what he intended to do! It was then that she sensed his presence and sent a jolly, happy festival greeting his way. She was so very happy he was coming and to please hurry because she had a present for him!
Usually humans who served him gave him nothing but terrified or hate filled looks. He was suddenly filled with an intense curiosity as to what the clever young woman had secured that she thought worthy to become a gift for him. Rapidly enough for her to be well satisfied and still at a meager enough pace to preserve his dignity, he strode through the gates moments before full dark. The time when they would be shut for the night to keep out members of his race and other kinds of beasts of the night. He paid little mind to the hostile glares shot him by the gate wardens and some scruffy looking thugs who scurried off to report to the one that held their leashes the moment he appeared.
He entered the inn that her father kept and threw back his hood to display his pale skin and the vampiric cast of his features. The woman behind the counter, the infamous Leah from her looks, grinned when she laid eyes on him. She was Lianne’s Mother all right. From the grin that spoke of an amusement at the silly antics of those around her, and a general pleasure with her life, to the stunning appearance. Had she not the slightly lined mouth and the twin gray streaks in her beautiful hair he would have thought her his Lianne’s twin sister. Though the difference in scent would never have allowed for her to be mistaken for the one he had yet to see.
"He’s here Lianne, Just like you said he’d be!" A small boy about ten years of age shouted up the stairs of the inn. Her voice answered in kind. "I’ll be right down Milord Raziel! And Nathan You go and sit with your father, don’t bother Lord Raziel with your pesky questions!" The boy smiled wickedly up at him, but answered sweetly, "Yes Auntie Li, whatever you say!" Then he turned to Raziel and made it clear why the term ‘Pesky’ had been used.
When at last Lianne appeared at the top of the stairs his somewhat happy mood had deteriorated well beyond its normal gravity to near anger. "Nathan! You little Brat! Disappear! Now!" Her melodious voice commanded. Nathan gulped in terror. His curiosity forgotten and fled before his Auntie could cuff him upside his bratty head. His mood was once again restored when he saw what she was or rather wasn’t wearing. The almost transparent gown was barely decent to begin with, and the way she had used his scarf as a shawl and knotted the ends together in between her delicate collarbones drew the eye to the cloth that strained to hold in her voluptuous bosoms.
The flaring heat of arousal that burned through his flesh at the sight of her made his mouth go dry. He did manage to gruffly tease her about the way her feminine charms were so blatantly displayed. "Do be careful when you move about Lianne. I would hate to see you poke out an eye." He growled heatedly. For a moment she was confused by his meaning then she noted the glint of amusement in her mother’s eye at the comment and understanding dawned on her.
He got what he should have expected but never saw coming, a perfectly delivered response to his teasing. "Ah I see that your mother never told You or perhaps you have forgotten over the centuries my lord Raziel, but these are angled so they poke other people’s eyes out not mine. It is you that will have to be cautious this eve." Lianne informed him coolly. Then she picked up a box that her mother slid down the bar to her and presented it to him. That wicked family grin she had inherited plastered all over her lovely face. "Happy festival My Lord Raziel. It is not much mind you but when I saw it I thought of you. It practically sang to me that you might like to have it." She told him.
When he opened the box and lifted the ancient helm out from it’s depths she watched expectantly. He was astonished by what he drew forth, it was his own Serafin helm? Just to be sure he checked inside the cheek guard and there was his mark just as it was on his clan banners and the medallion gleaming against Lianne’s pale flesh. It was his helm from so many centuries ago! "No surprise that this called out to you to have it brought to me. Once long ago this was my battle helm when I was a knight of the Serafin Order." He spoke softly, so much so that she barely heard what he muttered.
"Then it pleases you my lord?" Lianne asked? At his nod she jumped into his arms and took it from his hands. Then she said happily, "Lets see how this looks on you then!" He bent his head down so she could reach, and carefully she placed it on him. "Glory be! Mama come see!" She exclaimed as she stepped back. "What a looker he is honey! I hate to think how stunning the effect would be once he had the rest of the armor on!" Leah said cheerfully. He daughter nodded in perfect agreement. "Actually that’s something I would someday like to see!" She whispered in his ear. "Count on it my dear Lianne." He promised her then with a small smile that was meant just for her, he escorted her out the door to attend the rounds of dances being held in the barns just inside the wall.
