Disclaimer: I do not own the Devil May Cry game series, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Authoresses Notes: I dunno if I'm as fond of this
chapter as I am Trish's characterization in the previous one. Anyway, again with
the big grain of salt and criticism is welcome
Strange words used? Thanatos - God of Death
Explanations? The Grandfather - Grandfather is
one of the first generations of Gods. Technically could be considered THE god.
He helped create and perpetuate the rest of the pantheon, and more importantly,
killed off the latter generations so only this one now exists. Grandfather is
four generations back from the current gods.
I awoke sometime in the middle of the night, snugly
ensconced within the sheets. I was warm and comfortable, and as I gained more
awareness, I realized that there was an arm wrapped around my waist, holding me
loosely against solid warmth at my back.
His left arm was underneath my temple, his chin resting
against the top of my head. The fingertips of his right hand idly stroked my
belly.
My left hand was curled around his arm, holding it close to
my chest, while my right entwined with his fingers.
I felt comfortable and wary at the same time. I realized I
barely knew the silver haired man. I only knew what I was told and what I found
after delving slightly, which, sad to say, was not much.
What was stranger still was that my soul seemed to be at
ease with him. Which startled me to no end, after all, it wasn’t normal that I
was at peace. Every time I closed my eyes, I often wondered where I would end up
the next night, or even if I would live the next day.
I was an outcast among my own people, my own kin. None but
Genitor and his brothers wanted me, loved me, and… in some way,
understood me.
Now, do to a twist of fate, of Grandfather's whim really,
I’m lying in a stranger’s bed, bearing his child, and I’m not in the least
ashamed. I suppose I should be, however He had driven me from His haven to my
own. It was Grandfather's fault, and I would not take any sort of blame for His
ideals.
“What are you thinkin’, babe?” His fingers squeezed mine.
His voice startled me out of my revere. “Wondering about
how and why I ended up here.”
“You never answered my question earlier.”
“I know,” I sighed as I snuggled back into his body,
drawing his arms tighter around me. I felt him nuzzle the back of my neck,
sending shivers dancing down my spine.
“Just talk, babe, I won’t stop you.”
I closed my eyes, nuzzling my nose against his skin. “My
mother was a sorceress, as I told you before. She was one of the most respected
women in magic circles, and even to this day, her name is breathed, but not
uttered. Her name was Kieran.”
I felt Dante’s body tense behind mine. “Kieran… that’s a
name you recognize?” I asked quietly.
He murmured agreement against my neck. “Dad used to talk
about her.”
I nodded my head. “She was once a very powerful woman with
many at her beck and call. She spoke often of Sparda in the papers she wrote.” I
shook my head. “To get back to the main story, she… fell in love with my
genitor, a simple man, really in all respects save one: he was immortal. She
said she could live with that… however; it wasn’t as simple as she first
thought. She believed, so genitor tells me, that he was simply a magic
worker, a sorcerer, wizard, enchanter… Little did she know that he was a god…
“My mother became heavily involved, and soon, I was
conceived. It was then that my genitor told her about himself, that he
was a God of Truth and Light. She was… happy, he said.
“Because my birth took so much out of her, she ended up
passing into the care of Thanatos, and left me, a squalling newborn, alone in a
big world. The priests took me into their temple and tattooed my back with his
symbol, and then they sent a messenger to him, telling him of Kieran’s fate.
“He brought me up to Grandfather’s palace, and he and his
brothers fought viciously to make them keep me alive." I laughed slightly. "Much
like demon mothers defending their offspring, so I'm told. Since I was a
half-breed, I was considered abnormal and never able to fully realize the
potential within my own body. I didn't fit in either world, and it was
Grandfather's decree that all offspring between mortal and immortal be
destroyed. They never wanted to give me the chance to live and prove that I
could surpass them.
“They nearly succeeded in killing me until Genitor’s
brothers stepped in. I owe much to those two, as well as Genitor.
Grandfather I owe no allegiance. He used me to create a child who would surpass
even my own knowledge.” I placed a hand on my belly. “I was given an ultimatum:
I seduce you, become pregnant or He would have me killed, or see that Genitor
was maimed. You may not be able to kill a god, but you can torture and maim one.
There were no options.”
As I finished my tale, my tears fell to wet Dante’s bare
skin.
“You… don’t hate me for this, do you?”
Silence greeted my question, falling hard upon my ears.
Immediately I felt my heart break in two while I waited his answer. As I started
to sob, I felt a gentle hand curl around my chin, sliding my face to my right to
gaze into green-touched ice blue eyes.
He searched my eyes for a long moment as the tears fell
down my cheeks before he found what he was looking for. With a slight nod, he
bent his head, his lips brushing against my own in the softest of touches.
His fingertips glided over my wet cheek, softly stroking my
skin before he pulled back. “Did that answer your question, doll?”
I just looked at him before I curled my fingers around his
neck, pulling his face back down to mine for another kiss.
He pulled back with a slight smile. “Let’s get some sleep.
We’ll talk about living arrangements when we wake up again.” His fingers brushed
my face again. “You never have to return there.”
