Welcome, my friends…
To the long awaited, CHAPTER THREE: You Didn’t Answer My Question…
In the last chapter, Fox and Krystal, in the same Arwing,
came across a fleet stationed in stealth.
As Fox was about to send his readings back to Great Fox to be interpreted
by Rob, a group of strange fighters dropped in and disabled their ship, knocked
them out, and has carried the Arwing and its two passengers to one of the
large, cloaked battleships.
Is this the end, you ask?
FUCK NO!
By the way, Enigma makes an
appearance here. Enigma, FYI, is a
character of mine, and one of my most prominent. Often seen in military situations as a very
high ranking officer who always partakes in the battles his troops get
into. Friendly, polite
as all hell, a true gentleman, but also authoritive when he needs to be.
Disclaimers:
None. You really don’t need
them. Go away.
“Cattorney, the
vulpine is regaining consciousness.”
“Same
for the Cerinian. Keep a monitor
on both of them, I’m going to go report to the Medical
Commandant. If either panics, just hit
the button at the control panel to inject them with central nervous system
relaxants to calm them down. They didn’t
make any aggressive moves, regardless of whether or not they were spying on us,
and the Admiral doesn’t want them treated as enemies, so I’ll be right back.”
Fox groaned quietly
as he squinched his eyes closed tighter, the light in his eyes too bright for
his dilated pupils to handle. After a
few minutes, he opened them slowly, to find that the bright light had dissipated…and
the face of a strange being was staring down at him. With a yelp, he tried to jerk away, without
success, finding that his hands and legs were tied down to a cushioned table of
some sort. He began to panic, the
natural reaction in such a situation, when a loud popping sound filled the
air…and suddenly he felt calm again. He
relaxed against the bed, looking around slowly, unable to focus. After a few minutes, he chanced to use his
voice. “Where…where am I?”
The voice that
answered was that of an obvious female, a soft, delicate voice that was
strangely soothing. “You are aboard the
Medical Cruiser Scarlet Falcon, our
fleet’s only medical ship. Observation Room 31.
My name is Leila Heline.”
Fox blinked and
looked around, his vision starting to clear a little, his eyes focused on the
figure of the person obviously speaking.
She was standing over near a small desk with a various array of
computers and equipment along the technological levels of Cornerian, though it
was perhaps a touch more sophisticated, from what he saw of it. He blinked hard, then
reopened his eyes, which came into focus.
The smiling figure of a female of some strange species he had never seen
before came into focus. Fox blinked a
couple times to try and clear his vision, unsuccessfully. “Who…er…sorry…What are you?”
The woman tilted her
head, spilling platinum colored hair down her left shoulder, then
remembered that her “type” had never been known around this area for several
thousand years. “I am a species you
probably have never encountered in your life.
I am what is known as a human.”
Fox stared, then frowned.
“Human? You’re right. I’ve never heard of any species called
human.”
“To be more exact,
Homo sapiens. But human is the easier term.”
Fox nodded
slowly. His vision was clearing more
now…he could make out her appearance much better now. She stood about 5’4” and had a slender,
almost skinny figure. She lacked a tail,
and the only hair or fur or anything of the sort he saw on her entire body was
her eyebrows, eyelashes, and the hair on top of her head. She had no muzzle, but rather, a head that
was shaped more like an ape’s, in a way, but even then in a different way. The other thing he noticed,
something not about her species or whatever it was that she was, was her
eyes. Green behind
thin glasses that gave her an intelligent, yet rather pretty look. For someone so skinny, her breasts were
rather large, though in other certain comparisons, they were about average
size. But because of her thin form, they
looked a size or two too large for her…yet somehow, in the same sense, they
were perfectly shaped. Her waist was
also kind of thin, but even though she was facing him, her curves suggested at
a nicely shaped rear, too. Underneath
the white medical coat she wore, she wore a red skin-tight shirt that was made
of some sort of shiny material, and over her legs she wore a floor-sweeping red
skirt. Obviously, she wasn’t expected to
do anything involving surgical work. Of
course, Fox wasn’t noticing her increasingly noticeable attractiveness, his
mind was on what was going on, and on wondering where Krystal was, and he
voiced this concern to the human who called herself Leila.
Leila smiled a
little, pointing behind him. Fox twisted
his head to see Krystal laying on a bed similar to his own, still
unconscious. He was about to open his
mouth, when Leila spoke ahead of him.
“She’s fine, just
took the ionic pulse a little harder than you did. It’ll take her a little longer to wake up,
but she’s showed signs of recovering her consciousness around the time you
were, so it won’t be too long.”
Fox nodded, letting
out a slow sigh of relief. He went
silent for a bit, looking around. His
vision had cleared up completely by now, which was obviously a good thing. He didn’t quite like looking around at a blur
of indecipherable colors. After a few
minutes of relative quiet, Leila jumped as the door to the room slid open with
a hiss, and a man with long, straight black hair moved into the room,
dismissing the two guards behind him outside the room and sliding the door
closed. He wore a uniform comprised of a
thin jet black trench coat over a loose black shirt and a pair of black slacks. The only way Fox would have known it was a
uniform was the number of medals and decorations…a large board of ribbons
adorned the right breast of his trench coat, and underneath on the shirt was a
number of medals on the right breast area of the shirt. The trench coat was situated so the medals
were all in full view, directly next to the ribbons on the trench coat. On the left breast area of the trench coat,
on a gold plate with white letters, bore the title “Adm. 1st Class
Enigma.” On his shoulders on the trench
coat, he bore a pair of green rank boards over a silver aiguillette and on the
other shoulder, a gold aiguillette. On
the green rank boards was a design of a pair of guns criss-crossed
diagonally over a black circle insignia with a gold orb in the middle. Fox, of course, had NO idea what anything
that he wore meant. All he knew was that
it all meant he was someone VERY important.
Important to whom, he did not know.
The officer, Enigma as his name plate proclaimed, sent a small smile at
Leila, who blushed a little and smiled back.
“These
the two new POWs?” The remark was
made, strangely, with humor. Fox jerked
his head around at the term P.O.W. which stood for Prisoner Of War, but the
quiet chuckle made him relax.
“At
ease, vulpine. I’m only
kidding. So, what’s their status?”
Leila took a moment
to compose herself and get herself to speaking
capacity. “Um…they’re both from the
system, both from different planets, apparently. The female, the blue one, she’s from a planet
in this system called Cerinia, and the male, the one
who’s awake, is from the most technologically advanced planet in the system, a
planet called Corneria.” The one called Enigma nodded slowly, blinking
his dark brown eyes slowly. “So he’s
from the same planet those other’s we captured are from, then.”
Fox turned his head
to look at him. “…Captured? But, you destroyed their ships…didn’t they
die in them?”
Enigma shook his
head at him. “No, their ships are in the
same bay as yours is. We just scattered
some debris from our trash compactors aboard our primary flag ship, to make it
look like we downed them. We didn’t have
time to do so with yours, though, but so it goes.” Enigma nodded a little. “Alright, well, I just wanted to check on
their status, see what’s going on.”
He glanced at Leila,
who flushed bright red and coughed a little, making an excuse to bury her face
into the crook of her arm. He rose his dark eyebrows slightly, then looked over at the
vulpine and the vixen.
“Your friend is from
Cerinia?”
Fox nodded. “Yeah…it’s what she told u…me,” he finished
hastily, cursing at himself, hoping to hell he didn’t just somehow betray Peppy
or Falco or the others. He was in luck, Enigma just nodded, taking no
notice, seemingly.
“Yeah. I remember the second Androssian
War. We didn’t partake in it, although
at that time, Andross was starting to send out forces
beyond this system to ours, which neighbors yours. They weren’t much of an enemy,” he added with
a grin. Fox just stared. This guy knew who Andross
and his forces were?? Enigma went on.
“I remember we sent out
a few light patrol frigates to the edges of this system, to intercept any Androssian forces that decided to invade our system. One planet we did have contact with before
was a planet called Cerinia. I assume she doesn’t speak much of what
happened at Cerinia, yes?”
Fox paused, then realized Krystal never had
said a thing about why she left her home planet. Slowly, he shook his head. Enigma grimaced.
“Don’t blame her, then…Andross slaughtered everyone
on the planet. It had a populace mostly
dependent on, of all things, folk legends of magic. Intelligent people, just
not very into scientific belief.
…Well, in any case…it cost them all their lives. Elite strike units were dispatched as our
frigates, few and lightly armed as they were, engaged the Androssian
fleet that was blockading the planet. We
figured we could hold them off long enough for whoever it was resisting the Androssian forces to get there and help us help them. Five frigates went into action, and 1,800
elite strike troops were deployed onto the planet’s surface. Two cruisers came back, 150 men fled the
planet. …I was one of them. Actually, 500 fled the planet, but Androssian interceptors destroyed two of the three landing
craft returning to our frigates. Considering
how outnumbered we were…we killed nearly ten thousand enemy troops and
destroyed seven of their ships.” As he
spoke, his eyes adopted a distant sort of look, like he was remembering that
battle in detail. He was.
“Anyway…our frigates
held position for thirty minutes after that, struggling to do something to the
enemy fleet, but when one of the frigates’ shields were knocked offline, we had
to fall back into hyperspace. Additional
reinforcements, two of ours most powerful cruisers and a dozen destroyers,
arrived two hours later…but it was too late.
The entire planet was a boiling, burning orb of fire in space,” he
finished with a sigh. “The Androssians had long left.
I thought nobody had survived. I
thought the entire planet was lost.” He
glanced at Krystal, then at Fox, smiling
slightly. “Good thing I was wrong. Better one to survive than none at all.” He then turned and went over to Leila, taking
her hand and kissing it.
“I’ll not intrude
into your work any further. Thank you
for your time.” Leila blushed, nodding
fervently as Enigma turned and strode from the room, the door clicking shut
behind him. Fox was quiet for a
while. He suddenly felt
horrible…Enigma’s words echoed through his brain… “We figured we could hold them off long enough for whoever it was
resisting the Androssian forces to get there and help
us help them. Five frigates went into
action…1,800 strike units…2 frigates survived…150 escaped…The entire planet was
a boiling, burning orb of fire in space…
Why had help never came for them? Logically and rationally, he knew why…at the
time, Cornerian forces were desperately trying to
hold off the Androssian advance at Sector Y, before
they could swarm over Corneria and decimate it. This thought didn’t cheer him any. He twisted his head as much as he could to
look at Krystal, then looked
back up at the ceiling silently for a time.
