Chapter 3: Mission Failure

I hopped out of the portal and into Station Square. The city
was in shambles. The once proud buildings were now in pieces around me, the
concrete in large chunks, strewn about the street. It looked kind of like when
Perfect Chaos had it's way here before. Only the craters that suggested dark
magic told me other wise. The various versions of Gannon, Eggman, and Bowser
had had the run on the place. The only people I could see were dead. I
unsheathed my brilliant black wings and let the tips trail the ground as I
walked. I entered a large hotel and looked around. The stairway was smashed to
pieces and rubble cascaded down, so I doubt that there is anything but a lobby
left. I closed my eyes, letting my other divine senses detect the whispers of
life. There was one life left here, so I sifted through the pile of rubble,
eyes closed, to try to find them. My hands touched something, so I grabbed on,
there was a muffled shout as I quickly found that the life I was trying to
save, was female. I lowered my grip down to her waist and tried to pull. I dug
some more and tried again. She came free and I set her down besides me, and
opened my eyes. I did so just in time to see the hammer and ducked accordingly.
“What the hell were you doing?!” Amy shouted. “My apologies, but my eyes were
closed in order to augment my other senses. I couldn't have known what I
held.” She looked at me funny
before sighing. I checked my data, confirming the anthropomorphicstyle='font-family:Verdana;color:black'> mammal to be Amy Rose, and
started to leave. "Wait!" I stood still as she came around to my side. “What
are you?” I started to walk again, ignoring the question. But she grabbed my
shoulder, so I stood still. "Amy, if you want to come with and help survivors,
be my guest, but otherwise. Leave me alone."style="mso-spacerun: yes"> So I walked and she followed. I closed
my eyes again and sensed for other life. There was a faint signal that I
followed and then stopped, opening my eyes. I stood at the entrance to Twinkle
Park, and flinched with at its name. I remember the couple park too well. As
well as the plain I was in too. That was where my partner died. Like I, she
couldn't have been a year over 18. I pressed the memory and searched the
premises for life. “Hey! Over here!” Amy had yelled. I saw her standing over me
in the pipe. When I took the elevator up, I saw whom it was. Tails was dead,
bloodied and beaten; his body lying on the floor where a spike was driven
through his middle. I marked the causality in his data and continued. Amy cried
from his death, So I let her stay for awhile. I flared his body like the angels
and left. Nothing was left of Miles 'tails' Prowler. Amy followed me as I
sought the next survivor. I felt life from downtown S.S., so I followed its
signal to the origin, my wings trailing behind me. There was mechanical
activity, so I opened my eyes. I signaled for Amy to hold back and scouted
ahead. There was a multitude of robotic soldiers attacking a single target. I
checked my data. “Target identified as Shadow the Hedgehog” I spoke in its
monotone. The black and red was destroying the soldiers with ease, so I kept in
hiding, seeing no need to interfere. Shadow ran up the surface of a building
and came smashing down with great force, scattering 'bots like pins. Each
badnic went down with a single blow as he homing attacked them. That was, until
they had him pressed. A shot knocked him down and the enemies surrounded him.
Drawing my swords, I charged, wings spread wide. The first twenty went down
before a reaction occurred. The forces split to accommodate both targets, but
that was their first mistake, assuming that there were only two targets. I
mentally flagged Amy and slashed and destroyed many foes. I saw Amy come from a
building top and her resulting shockwave from the hammer caused many 'bots to
be destroyed. I cut many down but was hit a few times by laser fire. I slashed
about and destroyed the rest before collapsing. Amy rushed up to me and grabbed
my side, preventing me from falling further. Shadow stood off to one side, his
crimson eyes scanning the horizon. Darkness drifted over my vision as I heard
Amy scream. Then there was no more.
