Oh, man, I'm so sorry I haven't put
in the next chapter. I wasn't feeling right about my story. A few of you said
that it was a story with potential, and I admit, I freaked out about screwing
it up. But I'm back. Here goes nothing... Please be nice…
Chapter
3
Ryu
grimaced at the spray of blood that came from the goblin as he slashed it. The
little green creature hit the ground with a heavy thud, and didn't move an
inch. One hit KO. Not that it mattered much to Ryu. Ever since he had taken that
crazy job for a lost pet, he'd had no choice but to get stronger, and now these
little imps were as easy to kill as it was to breathe. Sighing, he wiped the
blood off his sword and reseathed it. He knew that these things meant to kill
him, and under normal circumstances, he would think that was a bad thing. Now,
however... he was wondering if it wouldn't be better to let them kill him. At
least then, the nightmares would stop.
He
had traveled the entire night without rest, and had gotten to Coursair around
noon. Yet Ryu didn’t want to stop for rest. By now, the others had probably
discovered his empty room, and started to look for him. He wanted to put as
much distance between himself and Township as possible, especially since she
was there. And he really didn't want her to see him like this. As it was,
she was the one that would probably search for him the hardest. He had the
feeling that she saw him as a sort of hero, someone who would take care of her.
He had been the first one to accept her, black wings and all, as a person,
rather than the Omen of Misfortune. What she didn't know was how much he hated
that. He didn't want to be a big brother to her, which was not the way he felt
about her. Like it mattered now. He had left her behind, and didn't plan on
seeing her again.
Deciding
that maybe he should give his body a rest, Ryu tightened his cloak, and picked his
bag back up. As he turned back towards the town, he figured that he might be
able to stay for a couple of hours. He could leave a little after nightfall.
After all, he highly doubted that his friends would expect him to be traveling
in the direction of the place where all his problems had begun.
Nina
sighed as she exited yet another shop with zero information. After discovering
the empty room, she and the others had quickly started to look for him. Since
Township was right outside Gate, they had started there and then spread out.
Katt and Bow had headed west, while Rand had called
for Grandpa the whale, and had gone south. Nina had decided to go east, simply
because it had a lot less towns, and Ryu probably didn’t want a lot of people
to recognize him. At the moment, she was in Windia, and had just left the third
shop. The fishmen weren’t willing to tell her anything unless she bought
something, and so, she had nothing but “maybe” sightings and a lighter purse.
As she
continues further into the town, Nina wondered if her family would help her
out. They had accepted her, at least a little bit, ever since she and her
comrades had saved the ill king. However, Nina reluctantly rejected the idea. She
thought that they might blame her for what had happened to her sister.
Selfless, naïve little Mina had sacrificed her heart and her memories has a
human to become the Great Bird to aid her sister’s companions. And because she
was the one who was supposed to this task, Nina felt that her parents blamed
her for this. They had now lost both of their daughters…
With
another heavy sigh, Nina turned around and started heading back to the town
gates. As she walked, bits of conversation floated to Nina’s ears.
“The
harvest should be good this year, no freaky monsters around…”
“Armor!
Strong armor. As tough as a Crust Tribes’ skin!”
“Mommy,
big brother pulled my wings again!”
“…but
really, what kind of person has blue hair? Isn’t that a bit weird?”
Nina had
taken another three steps before she really grasped the meaning of that last
snippet of conversation. It took less then a second for her to turn around, and
stand right beside the old woman who had made the statement and her gossiping
companion. “Excuse me,” Nina said. “Did you say blue hair? Did you?”
The old
woman’s eyes widened. “Why, yes I did,” she replied. “Are you interested in
gossip too?”
“No, not
really,” was Nina’s quick reply. “But could you tell me a bit more about this
person with blue hair? It could help me a lot.”
The old
woman’s companion narrowed her eyes. Who was this rude girl who just
interrupted a private conversation out of the blue? Children these days had no
manners. But her eyes softened at the girls next words.
“It might
be someone who is very precious to me.”
At these
words, the two old women began to giggle. “Ah, to be young and in love again,”
sighed one. “It’s times like this that I really begin to feel my age.”
“No, it’s
not like that!” Nina protested. “He’s just a really close friend!” But the
blush that covered her face said otherwise, and it caused the gossiping pair to
giggle harder.
“Well, if
you say so,” the first said with a smile. “I never saw the persons face. They were wearing a cloak with a hood. They
went over to the river, and at that point, their back was to me. Then they
pulled down their hood to splash some water on their hair…”
“And
that’s how you knew the hair color,” finished Nina. “Do you know where they
headed?”
“Apparently,
they were headed east,” said the second lady. “Something about a ‘clean
start.’”
East. Then that means… “Coursair,” muttered Nina. “Thank
you for your help.” And before another word could be spoken, Nina was racing
back to the town entrance. As soon as she had passed the gate, she spread her
wings and started flying as fast as she could. If she pushed her self without
rest, she should make it their by nightfall.
The
stars had just begun to shine when Nina finally arrived at Coursair. Deciding not
to land, she flew straight to the inn, and landed in front of it. Wasting no
time, Nina opened the front door and went straight to the counter. After
shouting for about ten minutes, the innkeeper finally came over to help her.
“Is
there a person with blue hair staying here?” Nina asked before the innkeeper
could say a word.
“Room
3.”
Immediately,
Nina dashed up the stairs and went straight to room three. Throwing open the
door she called out “Ryu!”
In
the bed, someone stirred. Without a second though, Nina ran over to the moving
figure. The person in the bed opened one eye. Recognizing who had woken them
up, they sat up a little. “Hey Nina,” the figure said.
Nina
just looked at the person in the bed before answering.
“Hello…
Patty.”
Well there you go. Did I have you on the edge of your seat? Anyways, to
HopelesslyEscaflowne; I realize in the previous chapter, Nina was not how one
would expect, but hey, it was the result of somebody trying to get her drunk…
and succeeding. Yeah, someone spiked her drink. As for the flying thing… if you
had a hangover and were in confined spaces, would you want to try flying? But everyone, thank you for helping my confidence
for my stories with your kind reviews.
